  • Monica Jokes About 'Kicking In' Brandy's Door During 'Verzuz' Battle

    Verzuz

The two RnB powerhouses’ epic ‘Verzuz’ battle comes 22 years after they release their hit ‘The Boy is Mine’ that earned them a 1998 Grammy Award for Best RnB performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
    Sep 1, 2020
AceShowbiz – Monica and Brandy have squashed their decades-long feud as they had fun in the latest episode of “Verzuz” which took place on Monday, August 31. The two musicians appeared to be comfortable around each other as Monica cheekily joked about their old beef in the Live streaming session.
“We had a disagreement and I had to kick in doors,” the “Why I Love You So Much” singer joked. The comments caught people’s attention, prompting them to wonder if she did “kick in” Brandy’s door when they were still feuding years ago. The latter, however, confirmed that she was just joking.
The record-breaking episode, which garnered one million viewers, saw the two R&B powerhouses belting out and dancing to each other’s hits including “I Wanna Be Down” and “Don’t Take It Personal (Just One Of Dem Days)”. Not only fans, fellow celebrities such as Michelle Obama, Timbaland, Missy Elliott and Democratic vice president nominee Kamala Harris also tuned in for the episode.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Monica addressed putting their feud to rest with the song battle. “We’ve long removed ourselves from the dramatics of it but we’re gonna have a very in-depth conversation that may possibly be shared even with the audience because there’s a lot that happens, the fans have no idea what really took place, what really caused the initial friction,” she revealed.
“Hopefully, we can help some of the younger artists avoid doing the same thing because we did a whole lot more together than we did apart,” Monica added.

Their epic “Verzuz” battle comes 22 years after they released their hit “The Boy is Mine” in 1988. The song spent 13 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and its music video, which featured both ladies singing fiercely at each other, also became a life-changing success. It earned them a 1998 Grammy Award for Best R&B performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

AceShowbiz – Organisers behind hip-hop’s Rolling Loud festival are taking the event digital for a new series on Twitch.
Streaming service bosses will present the first of three music festival collaborations, titled Loud Stream, on 12 and 13 September, featuring over five hours of live performances each day, with artists staging sets incorporating state-of-the-art production.
Line-ups have yet to be announced, but the news of the virtual gigs will be welcomed by fans after the coronavirus pandemic forced the postponement of 2020’s Rolling Loud Miami, with headliners A$AP Rocky, Travis Scott (II), and Post Malone, until February (21).
“Streaming on Twitch transports viewers into a live concert atmosphere and creates an experience for artists to interact with fans in ways only possible on Twitch,” Will Farrell-Green, the company’s head of music content, shares in a statement.
“As in-person concerts are put on hold, we’re working to create an incredible backstage environment that fans can access from anywhere in the world. Rolling Loud has a powerful community of hip-hop fans, and we’re thrilled to partner with them for a first of its kind event that will bring their incredible live music brand to life.”
The partnership will also include weekly programming for hip-hop heavy content on the official Rolling Loud channel, like music preview show “The Leak” and freestyle competition series “Got Bars?”, although topics like food, fashion, art, and gaming will also feature, reports Billboard.

The “Savage” hitmaker had to undergo surgery after suffering gunshot wounds to her feet in July, following a clash with Lanez after attending a party in the Hollywood Hills.
Police are still investigating the incident, which Megan publicly blamed Lanez for in an Instagram Live session, and on Sunday (August 30), she dropped a fresh freestyle rap, referencing the shooting in song for the first time after coming across a spare beat on her laptop.
“Tic tac toe, I’m gonna X this b***h/ If a hit dog holler, I address that s**t,” she spits. “Got shot two times and I ate that s**t/ Bounced right back with a Revlon deal.”
“Going through beats and I just had to do a lil quick freestyle,” she captioned the Instagram video, in which she was featured sitting in her kitchen in a yellow bikini in front of her laptop.

  • Artist of the Week: Saweetie

The ‘ICY GRL’ femcee makes a comeback after a yearlong hiatus as she shows off her no-nonsense, no-pretense, unapologetic brilliance with latest summer banger ‘Tap In’.
    Aug 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – Saweetie makes a chart return while having a blast with her party following a yearlong hiatus. After blowing up with the infectious “ICY GRL” and irresistible “My Type”, she is now invading the internet and climbing up the charts with another summer banger “Tap In”.
The 26-year-old star did what she does best, putting a new twist on a classic hip-hop track. This time, she samples Too Short’s “Blow the Whistle” for her latest party anthem. It carries unapologetic lyrics about bagging the rich, kissing off the haters, and disdaining the clout chasers.
The “High Maintenance” female rapper said, “My specialty is able to have an ear for a beat that would sound good if I flipped it or if I sampled it. Hip-hop is built on samples.” She successfully appeals to both audiences, catering to radio without ignoring the current trend on the internet.
The Dr. Dre production quickly becomes a new favorite on social media including the wildly popular TikTok while hitting the pinnacle of Billboard U.S. Triller for the second consecutive week with over 8.8 million streams after initially debuting at the second place.
It continues to rise domestically and globally, reaching the top 10 on Rhythmic Radio and No. 3 on Urban Radio as it receives an extra boost from the current popular hip-hop names like Post Malone, DaBaby, and Jack Harlow who join the fun for the all-star remix.
The song is also nominated for Song of Summer at the MTV Video Music Awards. It’s pitted against “WAP” (Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion), “Watermelon Sugar” (Harry Styles), “Say So” (Doja Cat), “Blinding Lights” (The Weeknd), “Cardigan” (Taylor Swift), and more.
“Tap In” is expected to be listed in Saweetie’s upcoming debut studio album “Pretty B*tch Music”. While the femcee has been recording a lot following her two previous hit singles and is aware that a full-length studio album is long overdue, she didn’t rush the project.
To make sure her first LP is something that she’s proud of, she even took a time out to develop her musical artistry. “I’ve been gone for a year, but I really had to focus on my artist development because that was something that I was struggling with. So I took a year to myself to really figure out what is my next move,” so she explained.
