  • St. Vincent Debuts New Version of 'New York'

    WENN

The ‘Masseduction’ singer has collaborated with Japanese rock composer Yoshiki to give her 2017 stripped down ballad a new twist with a string arrangement.
    Aug 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Singer St. Vincent has recruited rock composer Yoshiki to give her 2017 track “New York” a fresh spin.
The stripped down ballad, which detailed the end of a relationship, originally featured on St. Vincent’s “Masseduction” album, and now it’s been revived and revamped as a classical tune with a string arrangement.
“It was an honour to work with the amazing Yoshiki on this new version of New York,” she says.
“Yoshiki’s arrangement added to the song in the way time or distance transform longtime friends or relationships: the original is still recognisable, but subtly and significantly altered.”
Yoshiki reveals they were introduced by mutual friends in early 2020, two years after they shared the bill at California’s Coachella music and arts festival, although at the time, they did not get to meet.
Now, the Japanese musician is thrilled to have been given the opportunity to collaborate with the star.
He adds, “As an artist, I admire how St. Vincent approaches music in an innovative and courageous way. Her music breaks the boundaries of genres, which is a mindset I can completely relate to…”
“In terms of New York, it’s a great song to start with, and I’m grateful that she trusted me to fully rearrange the song with my classical approach. I hope St. Vincent’s fans enjoy it, and that my fans will too.”

  • Ozzy Osbourne Refuses to Retire Despite Health Woes

    YouTube/Download Festival Japan

The Black Sabbath rocker is determined to keep making music and doing tour despite his health issues after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2019.
    Aug 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ozzy Osbourne has no plans to give up his rockstar life.
The 71-year-old Black Sabbath rocker opened up this year about battling Parkinson’s disease, which is now affecting his ability to walk. But he tells Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper “retirement” is off the cards.
“You know the time when I will retire? When I can hear them nail a lid on my box. And then I’ll f**king do an encore,” he quips, adding, “I’m the Prince of Darkness.” The star has been isolating against Covid-19 since March (20), but Ozzy insists that he will return to finish his last tour, which was axed due to his health issues, with rescheduled dates called off due to the pandemic. “When you feel that audience jumping, it’s a better feeling than orgasm. It is the best love affair of my life,” he reflects. “The party is on, man. I feel honoured people still want to see me.”
Wife Sharon, who is also Ozzy’s manager, is also adamant her husband’s health issues won’t prevent him returning to the stage, sharing, “He may not be able to run up and down like he used to on stage, but it’s still about the voice and he’s still a funny f**ker.”
“His voice is his legacy. You hear one note, you know that’s Ozzy,” she gushes. “Everything you want to say is right there in the music.”

  • Leonard Cohen's Estate Slams Trump and His Party for Playing 'Hallelujah' Against Their Wishes

    WENN

The Republican Party comes under fire for playing Cohen’s classic hit at their National Convention despite his estate’s refusal to grant them permission.
    Aug 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Representatives from the estate of Leonard Cohen are “surprised and dismayed” after they “specifically declined” Republican Party officials’ request to use his song “Hallelujah” at their National Convention.
Two different cover versions of the late crooner’s famous ballad were played twice during the broadcast on Thursday (27Aug20), during which President Donald Trump accepted the party’s nomination for November’s election, but legal reps for the estate has issued a statement insisting the track was used against their wishes.
“We are surprised and dismayed that the RNC would proceed knowing that the Cohen Estate had specifically declined the RNC’s use request, and their rather brazen attempt to politicise and exploit in such an egregious manner Hallelujah,” a statement to Reuters read.
Calling the number “one of the most important songs in the Cohen song catalogue, estate lawyers insist they are “exploring our legal options.”
Brian J. Monaco, Sony/ATV Music Publishing’s Global Chief Marketing Officer, also confirmed the denial on Friday, adding, “On the eve of the finale of the convention, representatives from the Republican National Committee contacted us regarding obtaining permission for a live performance of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. We declined their request.”
He quipped, “Had the RNC requested another song, You Want it Darker, for which Leonard won a posthumous Grammy in 2017, we might have considered approval of that song.”
Trump has come under fire from a number of artists for playing their music on his campaign trail, with R.E.M., Pharrell Williams, Rihanna, Guns N’ Roses, Neil Young, and Tom Petty’s estate all threatened legal action against the U.S. leader.
Cohen passed away on 7 November 2016 – the day before Trump was first elected as President.

    Aug 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Producer Swizz Beatz raised a toast to his superstar wife Alicia Keys on Thursday, August 27 after becoming “the most certified female R&B artist of the millennium.”
Keys has overtaken Beyonce Knowles to snag the impressive title after racking up U.S. sales of 27.5 million certified digital singles in her career to date, according to officials at the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
That figure puts the “Girl on Fire” hitmaker ahead of her close friend by 1.5 million units, and Beatz couldn’t contain his pride after discovering the big news, which Keys had kept to herself.
The hip-hop star congratulated the singer on the achievement in a sweet video message filmed at the couple’s home, where Keys had been washing dishes in the kitchen.
As she notices Beatz filming, the camera-shy musician runs away laughing, before accepting a glass of wine from her man to acknowledge her career milestone.
“This is serious! The highest selling R&B female artist of the decade…, beating everybody – everybody, and you’re just going to walk around the house, wash dishes, don’t say nothing about that (sic)?” Beatz lovingly questions her.
“That’s big,” he adds. “Congrats baby.”

In the accompanying caption, the multi-Grammy-winning star attributed the massive feat to the support of her loyal fans.
“He’s always creepin’ up on me!!” Keys quipped of her man. “He thinks I’m too humble but that’s just me.”
“I’m grateful. I’m honored that you chose to connect with me and show me so much love!! Wow!! The most certified female R&B artist of the millennium????? I had to re-look up the word millennium!!! deaammmmnnnn and just putting my humility to the side for a sec…20 million albums sales and 27.5 million certified digital sales (US) just sayin’ (sic).”
She continued, “But listen for real y’all, you are my heart! You are so important to me! So let’s keep dreaming big, and choosing love and being about each other cuz the world needs us BAD right now (sic)!!! And HATE can never win! We won’t let it!”
Keys wrapped up her post by sharing her gratitude to her husband of 10 years, “I love you all and I love my hubby for always helping me celebrate even when I’m just washing dishes around the house.”
Referencing her next, self-titled release, she concluded, “ALICIA album…. I’ll tell you when I’m ready… cheers fam (sic)!!”

  • Dee Snider Slams Kiss for Letting Replacement Members Wear Signature Makeup

    WENN

The Twisted Sister star says Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons should have retired the look originated by Ace Frehley and Peter Criss when they kicked them out of the group.
    Aug 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Twisted Sister star Dee Snider has taken aim at Kiss rockers Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons for letting replacement members of the band use the signature stage make-up worn by Ace Frehley and Peter Criss.
Snider, who also donned make-up for his group’s videos and shows, insists the Kiss founders should have retired the look when they kicked Criss and Frehley out of the band.
“I hate what Kiss is doing with the guys with Ace and Peter’s make-up on,” the singer told the Appetite for Distortion podcast. “I’m not a fan.”
It’s not the first time Dee has attacked Simmons and Stanley over Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer’s stage make-up – he told Eddie Trunk in 2015, “I don’t see how people could accept this. Tommy Thayer? I’m sorry. It’s insulting. Not only did he play with a tribute band of Kiss, he’s imitating Ace in his entire act!”
Stanley responded by calling Snider a “wannabe,” who “desperately wants attention and to be taken seriously,” adding, “He’s obviously clueless to the fact that he and his whole band are a bunch of buffoons.”

  • Ciara Almost Got Robbed Of Hit Single 'Goodies' as Label Wanted the Song for Britney Spears

    Jive Records

The ‘1, 2 Step’ singer reveals she almost lost her breakout single as the song was being shopped to the ‘…Baby One More Time’ hitmaker behind her back.
    Aug 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ciara almost lost her hit breakout song “Goodies” to Britney Spears.
The singer released the dance floor anthem in 2004 as her debut single and was shocked to learn the tune was being shopped to the “Toxic” hitmaker behind her back after she thought she had won the rights to sing the track.
“I had to reaudition again, to be picked up and to be made a priority on the (Jive Records) label,” Ciara recalled on her programme “Level Up Radio” with Apple Music. “I did that, had a showcase, rocked it. OK, boom, check.”
“Not knowing that behind the scenes, there was a conversation about this song being potentially taken from me and given to an artist like Britney Spears, who was on the same roster as me.”
“Goodies” went on to become an international hit, earning Ciara prestige and worldwide stardom, and the star admits she would have “fought tooth and nail” for the track if she knew her label bosses entertained handing it over to another artist.
“I knew that it was a very, very special record,” Ciara said, noting she was “heavily involved” in writing the song behind the scenes. “It was because it’s a record that I actually was a part of creating.”
And the star feels forever grateful for the track.
“This was my very first song that I put out into the universe,” Ciara smiled. “My first song, and by God’s grace, it also was a number one song, and it lasted on the Billboard charts for eight weeks. It was just kind of surreal to see that my dream was coming true.”

  • T-Pain Responds to Akon's Comments on His Career: 'I've Grown'

    WENN

Taking to his Twitter account, the ‘Jerry Sprunger’ rapper seemingly reacts to Akon saying that T-Pain could have been bigger should he don’t confine his music to one genre.
    Aug 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – T-Pain apparently has addressed Akon’s recent criticism of his career. Taking to his Twitter account, T-Pain seemingly responded to Akon saying that he could have been bigger should he don’t confine his music to one genre.
“I think one of the major reasons is that T-Pain never left the hood. He just confined his music to urban music… That was it,” Akon shared during a recent interview with VladTV. “I saw T-Pain as another me, to be able to cross outside of urban. Go into pop, go into EDM, go into Latin–I still think ’til this day he still can do it.”
“You and I know better than anybody, urban audiences aren’t loyal,” he went on to say. “Every year there’s a new n***a. Every year. So, you gotta take full advantage, maximize your urban presence, and then right as that side n***a come in, you exit… Hip hop, it’s a [stick] and move. It don’t stick around long enough unless you continue to reinvent yourself.”
    [embedded content]
T-Pain apparently caught wind of the interview and took to his Twitter account to subtly respond to it. “The very ppl that held me back is tellin y’all how I could’ve been bigger,” he wrote on the blue bird app, seemingly taking a jab at Akon.
The “Buy U a Drank” hitmaker went on to say that he’s “not angry at all.” He continued, “I’ve grown. I’ve learned how to keep moving forward and not look back. Some ppl don’t and that’’s ok. Theyll get there at their pace. But I’m no longer gonna to allow my past to determine my future. I’m in control. See y’all on the brighter side. Love y’all.”

Some fans and fellow musicians showed support for T-Pain as singer Sammie Always wrote, “I respect Kon. In the same sentence T-Pain is legendary. Flowers @tpain.” DJ Damage added, “I respect his opinion, but T-Pain is a legend . His catalog is timeless . Give this man his flowers !”
