    Aug 28, 2020

  • Margo Price Credits Brittany Howard for Calming Her Nerves Over 'WAP' Cover

    Instagram

The ‘A Little Pain’ singer has given a folksy makeover to Cardi B’s collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion during an appearance on ‘The Daily Show with Trevor Noah’.
    Aug 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Margo Price has fellow singer Brittany Howard to thank for calming her nerves after fearing she had made a mistake by covering Cardi B’s raunchy rap hit “WAP”.
The “A Little Pain” star was recently asked to give Cardi B’s Megan Thee Stallion collaboration a folksy makeover for an appearance on America’s satirical news series, “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah”, and she agreed.
    [embedded content]
“I was in a grocery store stocking up for vacation (when I got the call), and was like, ‘Oh man, I don’t know if I can pull that off,’ ” she told Billboard.com.
“I had heard the song, of course, and laughed my a** off, but it was like, ‘Well, Trevor specifically asked you to do it,’ and he’s interviewed me before and supported (her album) ‘All American Made’ and I thought, ‘I’m not going to take myself super seriously. This is about women empowerment and they want to see a white woman singing it to see if there’s a different reaction. I’m game.’ ”
The performance aired earlier this month, and while most of the feedback was positive, some social media trolls took aim at Price, and the criticism knocked her self-confidence.
“Cardi B shared it on her Instagram story and Twitter, but I saw a lot of hate, too,” Price shared. “Just go on Twitter and type in ‘Margo Price’ and it’s like, ‘Stupid-a** white woman covers a hip-hop song.’ Come to find out, nobody likes to hear women talking about their sexuality, but you can be objectified all day long. I was like, ‘Did I f**k up?’ ”
However, it was only after Alabama Shakes star Howard heaped praise on the cover that she was able to relax again.
“My friend Brittany Howard reached out and was like, ‘Dude, your WAP cover, I’m dead,’ ” she recalled, before admitting there was another reason she had been fearing the worst.
“That was the week I was tripping on mushrooms,” Price confessed.

  • Elton John Criticizes Modern Pop Music: They Are Not Real Songs

    Instagram

The Rocketman criticizes modern pop singers/songwriters as he describes today’s chart records as ‘bits and pieces,’ in which he’s not interested at all.
    Aug 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Elton John isn’t a fan of modern pop music, insisting chart hits are “not real songs.”
The “Tiny Dancer” star opened up on the state of the music industry in an interview with BBC Radio 6 Music, and confessed he’s a fan of singer-songwriter Father John Misty because he writes “proper songs.”
“He reminds me a little bit of me the way he writes songs,” Elton offered. “You look at most of the records in the charts – they’re not real songs. They’re bits and pieces and it’s nice to hear someone write a proper song.”
“There’s a boy called Conan Gray who has a song called Heather and he’s about 22, he’s from America and he’s the only person in the American Spotify Top 50 to actually write the song without anybody else,” the “Rocket Man” singer insisted. “Everybody else there’s four or five writers on it and this boy’s going to be huge.”
Elton went on to explain, “I like people who write songs. And there’s plenty of people that do but a lot of them don’t get played on the radio because they’re too sophisticated and we get songs made by a computer all the time and I’m not interested in that.”
The star spoke with the outlet ahead of the “Record Store Day” re-release of his debut album on Saturday (29Aug20) – but he said the new pressing won’t encourage him to start revisiting his catalogue anytime soon.
“I don’t listen to any of my records any more. I just don’t do it. I’m not one of these artists that sits there compiling stuff from all the vaults and stuff like that,” he stated.
“I’m more interested in what’s coming next than what went by,” the “Crocodile Rock” star smiled.

  • The Weeknd Shuts Down Speculation That He's Beefing With Usher: He's the 'Sweetest'

    Instagram

‘It wasn’t a feud,’ The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, says of his controversial comments on Usher’s 2012 single ‘Climax’ in a cover story with Variety on April 8.
    Aug 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – There is no music beef between The Weeknd and Usher, at least according to the former. In his interview for Esquire cover story, the “Starboy” hitmaker denies having hard feelings for the “No Guidance” singer.
“It wasn’t a feud,” The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, said of his controversial comments on Usher’s 2012 single “Climax” in a cover story with Variety on April 8. “I hit him up to apologize and tell him that it was misconstrued. He’s one of the reasons why I make music. Definitely.”
The “After Hours” musician went on to say, “No, no, I have nothing bad to say about Usher.” The Weeknd further gushed over Usher, calling him “the sweetest, most down-to-earth guy ever.”
The feud rumors between the R&B superstars started after The Weeknd compared “Climax” to his earlier moody R&B music in the interview with Variety. “I heard ‘Climax’, that [2012] Usher song, and was like, ‘Holy f**k, that’s a Weeknd song.’ It was very flattering, and I knew I was doing something right, but I also got angry. But the older I got, I realized it’s a good thing,” he said at the time.
Following the publication of the article, Usher’s frequent collaborator Eric Bellinger started the #ClimaxChallenge on Instagram, showing off the original artist’s piercing falsetto. “Big Bro jumped in to set the record straight!!!… Now all we waitin for is you @theweeknd,” Bellinger wrote in the caption.
Diplo, who served as the song’s co-producer and co-writer, also weighed in on the matter. In a series of tweets, he admitted that The Weeknd’s 2011 “House of Balloons” mixtape was such a crucial influence to the song.
“The production on Climax lends itself to House of Balloons era @theweeknd. when I heard those early records they blew my mind – soulful in their silences, and a spacey iconic voice that felt uniquely internet,” Diplo tweeted on April 9. “The idea of R&B having dark edges was what I wanted to bring to @usher.”

  • The Weeknd Hopes to Create a Whole Album for Female Artist

    WENN

The ‘Blinding Lights’ hitmaker makes the admission in a new interview as he addresses his misogynistic past lyrics, stressing that he never intended to offend anybody.
    Aug 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – The Weeknd is keen to write a whole album for a female artist to balance out his misogynistic past lyrics.
The Canadian star admits he often writes for a character he has created and his alter egos are not always politically correct, good guys.
“When you hear some of the drastic stuff… it is me singing the words; it is my writing,” the “Blinding Lights” singer tells Esquire.
“It’s like you want people to feel a certain way. You want them to feel angry. You want them to feel sad. You want them to feel. It’s never, like, my intent to offend anybody. I’m a writer. Sometimes I write a song and it’s not in my head. I’m writing it for someone else, but then I end up singing it.”
And now he’s hoping to show off the full range of his lyrical talents by creating songs from a female perspective.
“I want to write a whole album for a female artist,” he adds. “I have a whole vision of The Weeknd.”

In the meantime, The Weeknd has teamed up with DJ Calvin Harris for a new single, “Over Now”, which drops on Friday, August 28.
