  • CeeLo Green Apologizes to Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion

    WENN

The former judge of ‘The Voice’ blames the media for stirring up controversy as he insists he was misunderstood and never meant to disrespect any female artists.
    Aug 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Hip-hop star CeeLo Green is walking back his harsh criticism of female rappers Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, and Megan Thee Stallion, insisting his comments were taken out of context
The singer hit headlines this week (begs10Aug20) after telling Far Out magazine he’s not impressed by the women of rap’s sexed-up lyrics, because they are often “shameless” and make them appear “desperate.”
“A lot of music today is very unfortunate and disappointing on a personal and moral level,” he said. “There was once a time when we were savvy enough to code certain things. We could express to those it was meant for with the style of language we used. But now music is shameless, it is sheer savagery.”
CeeLo, famed for his hit song “F**k You”, was attacked on social media for his remarks, which were deemed sexist and hypocritical, and on Wednesday (12Aug20), he took to Instagram to address the backlash, claiming it was all one big “misunderstanding.”
In a lengthy note, the 45 year old wrote, “Firstly, I am an advocate of artistic freedom and expression, as well as a fan of Nicki, Cardi & Meagan (sic). I know most of them personally and consider Cardi & Offset family. Therefore, I would never disrespect them by any means. I acknowledge them all as powerful, beautiful and influential women…and professionals.”
He went on to accuse bloggers and tabloid reporters of trying to stir controversy as he expressed his sorrow over the incident.
“I wholeheartedly apologize to each of them for the inconvenience they have been caused due to a snippet of my interview being used as a headline, and in turn creating controversy and disconnect between me and these ladies as well as their fans,” he continued. “Know that I support everyone who is part of our community & (black) culture. Always have and always will!”
“Much love to all of the female artists who are running the game and handling their business. With Love, Lo.”

  • Luke Bryan Insists Lady Antebellum Has Long Been Nicknamed Lady A in Response to Name Change 'Mess'

    WENN

The ‘American Idol’ judge has seemingly defended Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood, and Hillary Scott in response to the feud between the trio and blues singer Anita White.
    Aug 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Luke Bryan sympathises with fellow country stars Lady Antebellum for the “mess” surrounding their recent name change.
The “Need You Now” hitmakers decided to shorten their name from Lady Antebellum earlier this summer (20), after acknowledging its association with slavery in America’s southern states, but they have since become embroiled in a legal battle with blues singer Anita White, who has performed under the moniker Lady A for decades.
The headline-grabbing fight has split the country community, with Maren Morris and Margo Price siding with White, and now Bryan, who previously toured with the group, has offered his thoughts on the controversy.
Asked for his opinion during a Tuesday night (11Aug20) appearance on America’s “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen” show, he admitted bandmates Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood, and Hillary Scott are in a tough spot as they have long been nicknamed Lady A.
“I can say that for years, everyone… in the country music community has really referred to them as Lady A…,” Bryan said. “Like, I would call (his agents) and say, ‘Hey, get the Lady A guys on the phone.’ ”
“I think it was a great option for them to choose… (but) now it’s tricky…,” he carefully continued. “Who knows what they’ll have to figure out. But what a mess in the aftermath of removing ‘antebellum.’ ”
The stars formerly known as Lady Antebellum are suing White to block her from using their new stage name, having trademarked ‘Lady A’ back in 2011.

  • Cardi B Makes Trina Trending on Twitter While Defending 'WAP'

    Instagram

Cardi’s collaborator Megan The Stallion also defends the song, by noting the double standards that people have as she compares it to reactions to Tear Da Club Up Thugs’ 1999 song.
    Aug 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s collaborative song “WAP” has sparked controversy for its raunchy lyrics as soon as it was released on August 7. Cardi has been defending the track on social media multiple times, and in a new Twitter post, she points out that she isn’t the only femcee with raunchy songs.
“People think that WAP is so nasty and freaky except people from Florida …..Trina,Khia,Jackie O used to go in in,” Cardi wrote on Tuesday, August 11 on the blue bird app. The name-drop of Trina was enough to make the “Love & Hip Hop: Miami” star to trend on the app.

Cardi B mentioned other rappers with raunchy songs.
“Trina said ‘I’ll f**k him in the living room while his children home I make him eat it while my period on’ Wap is mid compared to that,” wrote one user, also defending “WAP”. Another fan added, “We literally grew up with Oochie Wally, My Neck my back, Trina, Whisper Song, Tip Drill, P***y Popping, Disco Inferno, the entire 2LiveCrew catalog but Wap is where the line is finally drawn.”
Someone else chimed in, “If y’all think WAP is the nastiest thing you heard, then stay away from Trina. ‘Look Back At Me’ makes WAP look innocent.”
Megan also joined Cardi in defending their song. Writing on her own page, the Hot Girl Summer said, “Lol dudes will scream ‘slob on my knob’ word for word and crying abt WAP. bye lil boy,” referring to Tear Da Club Up Thugs’ 1999 song.

Megan Thee Stallion called out the double standards against ‘WAP’.
On the track, the group raps, “Slob on my knob like corn on the cob/ Check in with me, and do your job/ Lay on the bed, and give me head/ Don’t have to ask, don’t have to beg/ Juicy is my name, sex is my game/ Let’s call the boys, let’s run a train/ Squeeze on my nuts, lick on my butt.”
“WAP” has received criticism from several people including James P. Bradley, a Republican running for a Congressional seat in California, who took issue with their provocative lyrics. Claiming that he “accidentally” heard the song, he tweeted, “Their new ‘song’ The #WAP (which i heard accidentally) made me want to pour holy water in my ears.”
“I feel sorry for future girls if this is their role model!” he said, adding, “Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion are what happens when children are raised without God and without a strong father figure.”
Former Republican Congressional candidate DeAnna Lorraine also slammed the song as “disgusting” and “vile,” and disagreed with the notion that the song is a female empowerment anthem. She said the “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker and the “Savage” raptress are “completely wrong” if they think the song does “anything to empower women.”

  • Megan Thee Stallion Seemingly Hits Back at CeeLo Green After 'Shameless' Music Comment

    WENN

The Goodie Mob member previously made headlines after he criticized the likes of Megan, Cardi B and Nicki Minaj for making what he called ‘shameless’ music.
    Aug 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – It looks like Megan Thee Stallion has come up with a response after CeeLo Green criticized her and other female rappers over their music. However, rather than directly mentioning the Goodie Mob member, the “Savage” hitmaker decided to attack all the men who thought that her new song with Cardi B, “WAP”, is too sexual.
Megan said on her Twitter account on Tuesday, August 11, “Lol dudes will scream ‘slob on my k**b’ word for word and crying abt WAP.” She then added, “Bye lil boy.” For your information, she was referring to Three 6 Mafia’s 1999 song “Slob on My K**b”, which found the hip-hop group rapping about receiving an oral sex from a male perspective.
Her post surely came at an interesting time given that CeeLo Green’s interview was just made public, prompting some people to suspect that this could be her response to the shade. For those who need a reminder, CeeLo criticized the likes of Megan, Cardi and Nicki Minaj for making what he considered “shameless” music.
He said at the time, “There was once a time when we were savvy enough to code certain things. We could express to those it was meant for with the style of language we used. But now music is shameless, it is sheer savagery. There should be a time and a place for adult content.”
He went on calling Nicki “desperate,” and mocked both Cardi and Megan, “They are all more or less doing similar salacious gesturing to kinda get into position. I get it, the independent woman and being in control, the divine femininity and sexual expression. I get it all. It comes at what cost?”
Following the interview, many people attacked CeeLo and accused him of hypocrisy as they brought up his past rape case and controversial tweet in which he stated that having sex with an unconscious person could not be considered a rape.

The latest cover for the publication features stars including Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, John Legend, DMX, Snoop Dogg, Kirk Franklin, Alicia Keys, and more – all of whom have participated in Timbaland and Swizz Beatz’s online rap battle series.
However, the dancehall artists were noticeably absent from the line-up and, taking to Twitter, Beenie, real name Anthony Moses Davis, hit out at the decision.

“I guess billboard is REALLY THAT GUY,” he tweeted. “When will DANCEHALL get it’s recognition???? Nuh matter how the impact, no matter the hard work, no matter how powerful the music is, them still try it everytime them get a chance. Ah time now man. #FixUp…”
He added, “Big up Swizz & Timz but this is what our genre face! Everybody fwd and tek piece and build up dem thing and then do everything to undermine the genre DANCEHALL where they got it from. (sic)”
Meanwhile, the author of the article, Naima Cochrane, was also attacked online, prompting her to insist on Twitter that she had nothing to do with the cover art.
Following the upset, Swizz Beatz shared Billboard’s cover art along with a new version that included the legendary dancehall artists. He wrote, “To our fans, while we are honored that Verzuz made the cover of Billboard, this would not have been possible without Beenie Man & Bounty Killer who set a big tone for our audience and represented for Jamaica.”

“Thank You Billboard for the acknowledgement but, we feel this version of the cover best represents THE VERZUZ EFFECT,” he added.

    Aug 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Snoop Dogg is keen to collaborate with rapper CHIKA on a new country song after expressing his admiration for her work.
The star surprised CHIKA during an Instagram Live event on Saturday (August 08) and began praising her work.
“I’m here to tell you I f**k with your music. I love your s**t,” Snoop said. “I play it, I enjoy it. I wanted to tell you that. I didn’t want to, like, let you hear about it. I want you (to) hear it from me, from the Dogg’s mouth.”
Snoop then asked the 23-year-old if she’d like to team up with him for a song, to which she replied: “About what? It depends. I mean, the answer’s yes, duh. But also, about what?”
“As a writer, me myself, when I’m given a task of writing for someone, I like to study what they’ve written and what they’ve done and what they haven’t done,” Snoop added. “I try to give them a piece of themselves that they’ve never tapped into ’cause they can’t really see themselves as good as I can see them.”

She then offered to pen a country song for the mogul, which Snoop insisted he’d be down for.
“I’m writing you a country song. It’s gonna be a black country song,” the Alabama native added. “Southern music, Southern rap especially… It’s a different vibe. It’s a completely different vibe. I’m down for the challenge… This is gonna be some hip-hop country s**t.”
He added: “We gonna mesh. We gonna make this s**t work.”

  • Lindsay Buckingham Treats Fans to Acoustic Set More Than a Year After Emergency Heart Surgery

    Instagram

Aside from performing four songs during the virtual show, the former lead guitarist of Fleetwood Mac reveals he has completed work on a new album, but has yet set a release date for it.
    Aug 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Former Fleetwood Mac star Lindsey Buckingham thrilled fans with his first set since emergency heart surgery in February 2019 over the weekend.
The singer/songwriter performed a four-song acoustic set, including Fleetwood Mac tunes “Never Going Back Again” and “Big Love”, via Zoom on Friday night (August 07), and told fans who tuned in it has been a strange couple of years.
“This (pandemic) has been like a couple of years previous in which things occurred that I did not see coming,” he said. “One was my split from Fleetwood Mac. Another one was having a bypass operation, which I did not expect to happen. You could say that this makes it a trifecta of events that were completely off the charts.”
    [embedded content]
Buckingham’s vocal cords were damaged during the bypass operation, but he sounded good during the Zoom gig.
The singer’s first post-surgery appearance took place at his daughter’s high school graduation ceremony last year (19), when he played “Landslide”, but the students handled all the vocals. He announced a tour in February 2020 but that had to be scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic.
During the virtual show, Buckingham revealed he has completed work on a new album, adding, “We’re waiting to see where this is all going. We don’t have a release date. I was meant to be out on the road now promoting it. It should be out in the spring sometime.”
