He also addresses his mum directly, rapping: “Momma I need you to tuck me in / I done made some mistakes and they rubbed them in / I know you and Grandma had enough of them / Why I gotta be so stubborn, then?”.

  • Artist of the Week: Jack Harlow

The Louisville rapper explodes with his bouncy song ‘Whats Poppin’, conquering the internet, dominating the charts, and earning recognition within hip-hop community.
    Jul 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – It seems summer 2020 belongs to Jack Harlow. The Louisville rapper is everywhere, dominating the internet and Billboard music charts. Starting selling his CD in middle school and playing sold-out venues in high school, he got his major breakout with his single “Whats Poppin”.
Produced by JetsonMade & Pooh Beatz, the masterminds behind one of 2019’s biggest hip-hop songs “Suge”, “Whats Poppin” is such a bob with feel-good lyrics. Released in January before pandemic hit the United States, it quickly went viral during the lockdown after grabbing the attention of TikTok lovers.
As countless homemade fun clips using the song popped up nonstop online, the track is steadily rising on the charts. It additionally earned the Private Garden star recognition from big rappers. The likes of Lil Wayne, Tory Lanez, and DaBaby jumped on the remixed version.
With the additional boost from those heavyweight names, the song climbed to a new height on the charts. It rose from No. 8 to No. 2 on Hot 100, vaulted from No. 5 to No. 2 on Streaming Songs with 34.1 million streams, reached No. 11 on Digital Song Sales, and peaked at 23 on Radio Songs.
However, the 22-year-old rapper who was signed by DJ Drama and Don Cannon to their Generation Now label imprint wanted his music to last beyond the warm season. He wanted to produce a classic so he continued to learn and broaden his horizon.
“I’m really taking this time to try and absorb stuff I never absorb. There’s hit songs from the ’70s and ’80s. I don’t know that everyone knows, so I’m going back and every day I’m doing my research,” so he explained in an interview with Revolt.
“I’m listening to a lot of older music. I’m listening to a lot of ’70s music. A lot of David Bowie, Hall & Oats, and Marvin Gaye. I’ve really been doing my studying because there’s a lot of music that’s iconic to people and shifted cultures that I missed out on,” he said.

  • Azealia Banks Begs Fans Not to Stream Debut Album Because Her Label 'Steals' the Profits

    Instagram

Even though ‘Broke With Expensive Taste’ has accumulated more than 200 million streams, the rapper alleges that all the money goes to Prospect Park’s chief executive, Jeff Kwatinetz.
    Jul 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Azealia Banks is fighting for her rights. Over the weekend, the rapper took to Instagram to ask her fans not to stream her debut album, “Broke With Expensive Taste”, because all the profits are going to go to her label Prospect Park’s chief executive, Jeff Kwatinetz, instead of her or any producers involved in the project.
She admitted to being in “deep pain” for asking her fans such a thing, but it’s something that she has to do. “The pain I feel right now is so deep. I lost ‘212’. I worked so hard on that record. But every stream goes into his pocket,” so Azealia said. “I have the master drive and will figure out a way to press physicals so you can enjoy the music and I can pay the producers the royalties they have been waiting for six years for.”
In another post, she shared screenshots of Jeff’s e-mail to her that found him promising not to put his interest ahead of his artist. “I assure you I only stepped in to do that to be helpful and to solve problems in front of us,” he said at one point in the lengthy mail. “My goal was to insure the best marketing and promotion as I truly believe if done right money made in touring, endorsement and other pursuits will dwarf the record money.” In the caption of the post, Azealia called his mail “the original lie.”

Not stopping there, the “Anna Wintour” rapper later followed it up with another post warning her fans of what Jeff might do in the future. “He will most likely try to press more physicals. Do not purchase them,” she said. “Only when they are available via ME will you actually be able to support myself and the producers involved. Do not buy them via Spotify, Amazon, eBay or any other site until I give you the word.”

“Broke With Expensive Taste” was released in November 2014. Receiving positive reviews from music critics, it debuted at No. 30 on Billboard 200.

  • Chrissie Hynde Recycles The Pretenders' 1999 Track

    Instagram

The female rocker lends her voice as a background vocals for the retitled song ‘Human on the Inside’ to give songwriter Shelly Peiken a career boost ahead of album release.
    Jul 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – Chrissie Hynde has revisited her 1999 The Pretenders track “Human” to give songwriter Shelly Peiken a career boost.
Peiken co-wrote the track with Mark McEntee from the Divinyls, who released the tune in 1996 under the title “Human on the Inside”, and now she has re-recorded “Human” with Hynde on background vocals.
“To have a legend who writes mega-hits of her own, record your song, is something that doesn’t happen for a songwriter every day… if ever,” Peiken told Guitar Girl Magazine. “I saw Chrissie backstage at the Hollywood Bowl earlier this year, and she confessed that the reason she cut Human is that it sounded more like The Pretenders than the material she was writing at the time.”
“Now I’m excited to be releasing a version of my own. And the icing on the cake is that Chrissie is singing backing vocals with me!”
Peiken is also the songwriter behind hits like Christina Aguilera’s “What a Girl Wants” and “Come on Over Baby”, Meredith Brooks’ “B**ch”, Mandy Moore’s “I Want to be With You”, and “Who Are You” by Jessie J. She has also penned songs for artists such as Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, and Britney Spears.
“Human” will feature on her first solo album, “2.0 etc.”, on which she revisits a number of her biggest hits.
