  • Neil Young Slams Donald Trump for Playing His Songs at Mount Rushmore Event

    WENN

The ‘Rockin’ in a Free World’ singer says he stands in solidarity with the Indigenous peoples as his songs were used at a Mount Rushmore event without his consent.
    Jul 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Neil Young is “not OK” with Donald Trump using his songs at his Fourth of July weekend Mount Rushmore event.
During his rally, held at the base of Mount Rushmore on Friday (03Jul20), the U.S. leader played three of the rocker’s songs, to Young’s apparent irritation.
“This is NOT ok with me,” the 74-year-old tweeted from his official account, alongside a video of his 1989 hit “Rockin’ in a Free World” playing over the sound system at the gathering.
After another clip of his track “Like a Hurricane” playing before Trump took the stage was shared online, Young added, “I stand in solidarity with the Lakota Sioux & this is NOT ok with me.”
The comment made reference to the Indigenous peoples in the area, who were historically forced off the sacred land when gold was discovered in the region.
Young’s song “Cowgirl in the Sand” was also heard at the event, according to Deadline.
Young previously criticised Trump for playing “Rockin’ in a Free World” during his presidential campaign in 2015, with the star himself actually a supporter of Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders.
R.E.M., Pharrell Williams, Rihanna, Guns N’ Roses, The Rolling Stones, and the estate of Tom Petty are among those who have also objected to Trump’s use of their music.

  • Charlie Puth Finds It 'Pretty Cool' to Collaborate With Elton John

    WENN

Revealing that their joint project has been completed and will be released soon, the ‘Attention’ hitmaker spills on what he learned from working together with the ‘Rocket Man’ icon.
    Jul 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Pop star Charlie Puth is still in disbelief at landing the opportunity to work with Sir Elton John.
The “Attention” hitmaker first teased fans about the “really special” collaboration back in May, when he posted a photo of himself with the “Rocket Man” icon on Instagram.
Puth reveals the track is now finished and will be released “soon,” and getting to hit the studio with his music idol was really a dream come true.
Marvelling at having Sir Elton’s contact details, he told U.S. breakfast show “Today”, “He just emailed me, which is pretty cool. It’s pretty cool seeing ‘Elton John’ pop up on your phone.”

Puth reveals the two musicians are neighbors in Los Angeles, and although they had discussed the idea of collaborating, the 28-year-old never thought it would actually come to fruition.
“We met at a restaurant in L.A. – this was back in December – and he said, ‘Yeah, let’s write,’ and I didn’t expect him to hit me up the week after, and be like, ‘We’re neighbors, we should just use your studio…’ ”
The artists quickly discovered they had completely different methods of songwriting, “He said to me something really interesting, he said, ‘You know, Charlie, I write music when lyrics are given to me, and you write lyrics after,’ which is true, so we write very differently, but he said, ‘Let’s take a crack at it anyway.’ ”
And their efforts paid off. “(Elton) sat down and played the entire three minute and three second song – that is done and people will hear soon. He played it in one take, the piano part,” he shared, “and then I wrote the lyrics. We did it reversed…”

  • Beyonce's Mom Tina Knowles Defends Her Album Against Capitalizing on African Culture Allegations

    WENN

Reposting a tweet from a fan who believes that the ‘Formation’ singer isn’t doing ‘Black Is King’ for profit, Tina stresses that her daughter ‘has a right to her heritage.’
    Jul 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Beyonce Knowles’ mother Tina Knowles has broken her silence after her daughter was criticized for allegedly appropriating African culture for her upcoming visual album “Black Is King”. While the R&B diva remains mum, the ever supporting mom took to Instagram on Friday, July 3 to defend her daughter and hit back at the critics.
The fashion designer reposted a tweet by a fan who disputed the allegations that Bey is capitalizing on African culture with the album. “Lmao the annoying thing about the capitalist argument with Beyonce is Lemonade, her ‘black’ album, is one of her lowest selling albums,” so read the fan’s tweet, “so if we’re talking profit, she wouldn’t continue to make music highlighting blackness if it was solely for profit.”
Along with it, Tina wrote a lengthy caption. “@_alphaa_ (Twitter handle) you could not have said it better,” she began, agreeing with the said Twitter user. “It’s really sad that the women who shout the loudest ‘protect the black woman’ that they are the ones that are trying to tear her down. Sisters wake up!!!!”
Claiming that the former Destiny’s Child star “dedicates her art to Boldly show the Royalty and beauty of our heritage and journey,” she insisted, “Her work is to change the narrative! To show that we did not start off as slaves , but that we were kings and queens before we were forced into slavery.”
Tina also stated that Bey has been fighting for African and African-American people “in the fashion and film world,” so she wondered where the hate came from. “I ask you to examine your heart and really take a look at what your motive is and what it’s fueled by!” she wrote.
Reminding the haters that Beyonce is an African-American herself, the 66-year-old continued, “I have one question for you too that I’m confused about ‘how do you appropriate the black culture when you are black??’ She has a right to her heritage as well as anyone else in the world.”
She went on telling the critics to channel their energy on positive things. “Then take that energy critiquing, and tearing down and put it to into an action that is fighting against the systemic racism that is going on right now and has been going on forever,” she urged. “The time that you take to tear her down you could be using that time to do that!!”
“Critique and tear down the systems that hurt and suppress us. Use your social media platform to work on getting people out to vote to change the laws critique the frigging laws!! Stop being a social media terrorist to the wrong people ! Redirect that passion for change in that !!! Use your energy and great intelligence to fight people who choose to be oppressors,” she implored, before stressing, “Beyonce is not your enemy!! But you would swear that she was!”

After “Black Is King” was announced in late June with a trailer, people began debating whether it’s appropriate or not for her to use the African culture to promote her new material. “She needs to read the room,” one person reacted in an online forum. “Focus on the s**t that’s going on in the country she was born in, romanticizing Africa isn’t what we need right now girl.”
Another agreed, “Seriously, I’m glad people have caught on to this because it has always bothered me how people appropriate ‘African cultures’.” A third person echoed the sentiment, “It’s a bad look, especially when you want to bite off the culture.”
Someone else doubted that Beyonce’s support of African people and African culture is genuine, noting, “Claim to love Africa but they stay spending the summer in Europe etc… From Senegal to the Seychelles plenty of beautiful places to visit. But since white people prefer the Hamptons, the South of France and Capri that’s where you will mostly find the Carters.”
To be released on July 31 on Disney+, “Black Is King” is described as “a celebratory memoir for the world on the Black experience.” The network’s bosses added in a statement, “The film is a story for the ages that informs and rebuilds the present. A reunion of cultures and shared generational beliefs. A story of how the people left most broken have an extraordinary gift and a purposeful future.”

  • 6ix9ine Surrounded by Scantily-Clad Women in Steamy 'Yaya' Music Video

    [embedded content]

Filmed in a non-social-distanced area, the visuals sees the rainbow-haired rapper being surrounded by scantily-clad women who suggestively shake both their booties and boobs.
    Jul 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – 6ix9ine has been on the roll ever since his early prison release. Following his two new singles, the controversial rapper unleashed another single entitled “Yaya” alongside its music video. However, this time around, he’s spitting his bars in Spanish.
Filmed in a non-social-distanced area, the visuals sees 6ix9ine being surrounded by scantily-clad women who suggestively shake both their booties and boobs. It also features a lot of milk as the rainbow-haired hip-hop star raps, “I needed a girl like that/ To put my hand in her skirt/ It’s obvious that she’s no saint/ Like me, she’s got a taste for evil.”
“Yaya” follows 6ix9ine’s previously-released singles “Gooba” and “Trollz”, the latter of which featured Nicki Minaj and went on top the Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. However, in the following week, the song plummeted to No. 34 and thus marked the biggest fall for a No. 1 debut in the chart’s history. The record was previously held by The Weeknd, whose song “Heartless” went from No. 1 to No. 15.
Besides releasing new songs, 6ix9ine has been caught in some controversies ever since he was released from prison early. The most notable one was that one time when he claimed that Billboard unfairly boosted Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande’s “Stuck With You” over “Gooba”, depriving him of a No. 1 single. He also asserted that an unnamed entity who is managed by Ariana and Justin’s manager, Scooter Braun, purchased 60,000 units at the last minute using 6 credit cards.
Ariana was quick to hit back, writing, “to anybody that is displeased with their placement on the chart this week or who is spending their time racking their brain thinking of as many ways as they can to discredit hardworking women (and only the women for some reason…..), i ask u to take a moment to humble yourself. be grateful you’re even here. that people want to listen to u at all. it’s a blessed position to be in. i’ve had a lot of ‘almost number ones’ in my career and i never said a goddamn thing because I FEEL GRATEFUL TO EVEN BE HERE. TO WANT TO BE HEARD AT ALL …. and you should feel that way too. congratulations to all my talented a** peers in the top ten this week. even number 3.”

  • Lil Wayne Releases 'Free Weezy Album' Revamp to Celebrate Its 5th Anniversary

    Instagram

The redo of the ‘Lollipop’ hitmaker’s 2015 mixtape does not feature all of the original tracks, such as ‘He’s Dead’, ‘Without You’, ‘Thinking Bout You’ and ‘I Feel Good’.
    Jul 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Rapper Lil Wayne has marked the fifth anniversary of his “Free Weezy Album” release by dropping a revamped version of the mixtape.
The “Lollipop” hitmaker shared the redo of the 2015 collection on all music streaming services on Friday (July 03), but fans were quick to note it didn’t feature all of the original tracks, as “He’s Dead”, “Without You”, “Thinking Bout You” and “I Feel Good”, which sampled James Brown, were all absent.
Sample clearance issues are thought to be behind the tracklist changes, but Wayne did serve up a new bonus song for listeners in the form of “We Livin’ Like That”.

The “Free Weezy Album”, which had previously been a TIDAL exclusive, was released in the midst of Wayne’s legal battle with his Cash Money Records label bosses Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams, whom he accused of withholding millions allegedly owed to the hip-hop star for his long-delayed album, “Tha Carter V”. That project eventually hit retailers in 2018, four years after it was initially due to drop.
