  • Doja Cat Transforms Into Anime Superhero in Gucci Mane-Featuring Music Video for 'Like That'

    [embedded content]

Weeks after scoring her first No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the remix version of ‘Say So’ featuring Nicki Minaj, the ‘Juicy’ rapper treats fans to a new visual for the latest single off ‘Hot Pink’.
    Jun 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – Doja Cat is giving herself a heroine treatment. Nearly two weeks after scoring her first No.1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 for her remix collaboration with Nicki Minaj, the “Say So” hitmaker came out with a brand new video for “Like That”, her latest single off her breakthrough album “Hot Pink” that featured Gucci Mane.
Mixing live-action and animation, the Thursday, June 25 promo presents the 24-year-old raptress in white bikini top and matching thong. She completes her look with a pair of vinyl half-chaps in the same color. She is joined inside a planet-painted blue room by four dancers wearing white cat masks.
It does not take long before the scenes in the less-than-three-minute visual alternate between live actions and animations. When the first verse comes around, the “Juice” MC is transformed into an anime superhero with visual references to Naoko Takeuchi’s popular series, “Sailor Moon”.
Doja’s collaborator Gucci, in the meantime, pops in half-way through the video. He raps his part while chilling next to a convertible car. As he rhymes along to the beat, Doja and her dancers show off their best moves around him.
The music video came just days after Doja fought against allegations that she joined racist chat rooms in the past. Addressing the scandal on Instagram Live on June 23, she blasted haters, “The things, the verbal harassment, the physical harassment, that I could go through being in a crowd of white supremacists, who you think I’m so good friends with. It’s f**king ridiculous.”
“Your actions are stupid. You may not be stupid, you may be smart. But your actions are not telling. It just is what it is. You guys are f**king disappointing,” she continued to tell off those attempting to cancel her. “This isn’t how you combat problems. And if you think it is, then you need to grow the f**k up, and I’m sorry. I’m sorry that you suck right now.”

  • Dixie Chicks Changes Name Following Backlash as Moniker Is Associated With Slavery

    Instagram

Natalie Maines, Emily Strayer, and Martie Maguire have followed in the footsteps of fellow country music group Lady Antebellum to change their moniker due to slavery connotations.
    Jun 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – The Dixie Chicks have dropped the ‘Dixie’ from their name after a top U.S. journalist urged the trio to follow Lady Antebellum’s example and make a change.
In a Variety piece last week, writer Jeremy Helligar argued the band should rethink its name, explaining “it conjures a time and a place of bondage.”
“Dixie, for the record, is the epitome of white America, a celebration of a Southern tradition that is indivisible from Black slaves and those grand plantations where they were forced to toil for free,” Helligar wrote.
And Natalie Maines, Emily Strayer, and Martie Maguire have responded by agreeing to ditch the ‘Dixie.’
The Chicks changed their website URL and their Instagram handle to reflect the new moniker on Thursday, June 25, 2020.
“We want to meet this moment,” a statement on the trio’s website reads, while in a press statement, the “Goodbye Earl” hitmakers thanked New Zealand band The Chicks “for their gracious gesture in allowing us to share their name.”
“We are honored to co-exist together in the world with these exceptionally talented sisters. Chicks Rock!” the press release continues.
The move follows another country trio Lady Antebellum’s decision to become Lady A amid ongoing protests and conversations regarding the history of racism in the U.S.
The “Need You Now” hitmakers initially clashed with a Seattle, Washington-based blues singer named Lady A, but the matter has been resolved.
Lady Antebellum made the name change earlier this month, June 2020, explaining the ‘Antebellum’ moniker had too many links to the American Civil War and slavery, insisting, “We are regretful and embarrassed to say that we did not take into account the associations that weigh down this word referring to the period of history before the Civil War, which includes slavery.”
Meanwhile, the artists formerly known as the Dixie Chicks will be releasing “Gaslighter”, their first album in 14 years, on July 17, 2020.

  • Nicki Minaj Tells Fans Demanding for Her Unreleased Songs to Hound Kim Kardashian and A$AP Ferg

    WENN/Instagram

The ‘Anaconda’ hitmaker tells Barbz that if they want those tracks with Kanye West and A$AP Ferg to be released, they need to spam the social media accounts of the reality TV star and the A$AP Mob member.
    Jun 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – As Nicki Minaj appears to be enjoying her downtime following her nuptials to Kenneth Petty and amid the coronavirus pandemic, her fans are thirsting for new materials from their favorite star. While she recently had a collaboration with Doja Cat on “Say So (Remix)” and with Tekashi 6ix9ine on “TROLLZ”, people still want more.
Lately, the Trinidadian-born raptress has been asked by Barbz to drop her unreleased tracks “New Body”, which she did with Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign, as well as “Move Ya Hips”, an A$AP Ferg song which also features MadeinTYO. Catching wind of this, the “Super Bass” hitmaker has commanded her loyal followers to take action and make it happen.
The 37-year-old artist told her fans to spam the social media accounts of Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian and A$AP Ferg himself for the unreleased tracks. “Y’all gotta light up Ferg comments everyday if you want MYH,” she wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “And light up KIM comments everyday if you want NB.”
Needless to say, Barbz have taken matter into their own hands, making “New Body” a trending topic as on Twitter as they petitioned for the song’s release.
“New Body” was reportedly supposed to be featured on Ye’s shelved album “Yandhi”, which he completed in 2018. After postponed several times with no new release date, the whole leaked unfinished album was available for a short time on streaming services like Spotify and Tidal in July 2019, but was shortly taken down. He later completely ditched the record for his first Christian hip-hop album “Jesus Is King”.
As for “Move Ya Hips”, the A$AP Ferg track has gained interest on social media after legendary New York personality DJ Clue got his hands on the preview and shared it online in May of this year. It’s unclear, though, why the A$AP Mob member chose to still keep the song on the shelf.

  • Brendon Urie Demands Donald Trump to Stop Playing Panic At the Disco's Song

    WENN

Stressing that the POTUS represents nothing his band stands for, the ‘High Hopes’ singer pleads with fans to do their part in ousting ‘this monster’ out of the White House in the November election.
    Jun 25, 2020
AceShowbiz – Brendon Urie has pleaded with U.S. President Donald Trump to stop playing Panic At the Disco’s “High Hopes” at his rallies.
The 33-year-old frontman was informed that Trump had chosen the tune to blare out at a recent rally, and took to Twitter on Tuesday night (June 23) to address the POTUS directly.
“Dear Trump Campaign, f**k you,” he wrote. “You’re not invited. Stop playing my song. No thanks, Brendon Urie, Panic! At The Disco & company.”
Urie continued to urge his fans to vote in a bid to oust Trump from the White House in the upcoming election.
“Dear Everyone Else, Donald Trump represents nothing we stand for. The highest hope we have is voting this monster out in November. Please do your part,” he wrote, alongside a link to HeadCount.org – an organisation which stages voter registration drives.
Urie isn’t the only big name to ask Trump to refrain from playing his songs at his rallies – R.E.M., Pharrell Williams, Rihanna, Neil Young, Guns N’ Roses, and The Rolling Stones just some of the other acts who have also objected to their music’s use at Trump’s events.
