  • Haim Tackles Sexism on New Album 'Women in Music'

    Instagram

The all-female music trio Este, Danielle, and Alana recount their experience with sexism and explains the meaning behind the title and artwork of their new studio album.
    Jun 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Haim are opening up on the gender disparity they’ve encountered in the music industry on their new album.
The all-female sibling trio, Este, Danielle, and Alana, are one of the hottest Los Angeles pop rock outfits, but in an interview with Variety they revealed, up until recently, interviewers were fixated on their gender.
Admitting that they would constantly be asked, “What it’s like to be…?” in “every single interview,” Danielle said, “We haven’t gotten asked the question this record cycle, which is also another reason why we wanted to call the album Women in Music. So it’s actually great.”
The new record, titled “Women in Music Pt. III”, appears to tackle sexism from the outset, with the cover art portraying “The Wire” hitmakers behind the counter at their beloved Canter’s Deli on Fairfax, posing in front of a sea of sausages.

Danielle, the group’s main songwriter and lead vocalist, confessed the title is “mostly funny. But we also thought, ‘Why don’t we just put it into our music and tell our fans some of the experiences that we’ve had?’ ”
One particular verse on the record details the hassles and preconceptions women face going into guitar shops, with Danielle explaining, “Growing up, being young women musicians, going into the conglomerate shops, it was always just a really s**tty experience. We were met with the obvious, ‘Oh, are you buying something for your boyfriend?’ or, ‘Oh, here’s a great starter, like, Squire.’ ”
However, despite scoring two U.S. top 10 albums, Este added, “Honestly, even now, going into that special store which shall not be named, we get the same thing, except we’re old enough to just give it an eye roll.”
“Women in Music Pt. III” is released June 26, 2020.

  • Megan Thee Stallion's Fans Blast Ex-Manager for Signing a 'Copycat' Texas Rapper

    WENN/Adriana M. Barraza

After watching a clip of Erica Banks, a Megan fan notes the vast similiraties between the two femcees, saying, ‘The car freestyle. The sample. The flow. The sound.’
    Jun 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Another drama between Megan Thee Stallion and her ex-manager Carl Crawford will seemingly start soon after he introduced a new 1501 Certified Entertainment artist, Erica Banks. As people noticed that Erica had similar sound with the “Savage” hitmaker, they accused Carl of pushing a Megan’s copycat.
In response to a clip of Erica spitting bars inside a car, a fan wrote on Twitter, “We are now witnessing the birth of Megan’s first son. He not even trynna hide it.” In another post, the fan noted the vast similiraties between the two femcees, saying, “The car freestyle. The sample. The flow. The sound.”
However, some other people came to Erica’s defense, saying that it’s just how people from Texas rap. “People not from texas ain’t gone understand that Erica banks not rapping like megan, that’s just that texas s**t like I don’t know what else to tell y’all but maybe take a trip down there and see it for yourself.”
Someone else added that two or more rappers having the same flow and style were not entirely a new thing. “I’m not mad that Erica Banks sound just like Megan Thee Stallion. Female rappers deserve to have 4 b****es that sound the same, too. Just like Future /Desiigner,Young Thug/Lil Wayne, [Lil Boosie]/Trina,” tweeted the fan.
The argument wasn’t well received by Megan’s fans. “Smh they really out here justifying 1501 trying to make a copy of Megan. Y’all: Everyone from Texas sound luke that [clown emoji]. Okay but [Lil Uzi Vert] and Meek mill both from philly but you don’t see them stealing flows and mannerisms,” said one fan.

Megan, who previously accused Carl of preventing her from releasing music, hasn’t responded to the allegation.

  • J. Cole Defends Himself as Chance the Rapper Slams Him for Seemingly Dissing Noname Over BLM

    WENN

The ‘Born Sinner’ rapper says he ‘stands behind every word’ of his controversial song ‘Snow on Tha Bluff’ despite criticisms that come from fans and fellow hip-hop stars alike.
    Jun 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – J. Cole has expressed his “love” and respect for fellow rapper Noname as a “leader” in the Black Lives Matter movement after appearing to criticise her in a new song.
“Snow on Tha Bluff” dropped late on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, and on the track, he seemingly addresses Noname for recently calling out her peers over their social media silence following the death of George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer in Minnesota last month, May 2020.
“She mad at the celebrities, low key I be thinkin’ she talking bout me,” he raps, later adding, “But s**t, it’s something about the queen tone that’s botherin’ me.” Cole goes on to claim he isn’t educated enough to be as outspoken about the Black Lives Matter campaign as some think he should be, and suggests those wanting to share their knowledge “treat people like children” so they can better understand.

The lyrics sparked a backlash online, but he returned to Twitter on Wednesday to defend his track – while also addressing speculation his verses were about Noname.
“I stand behind every word of the song that dropped last night,” he declared. “Right or wrong I can’t say, but I can say it was honest.
“Some assume to know who the song is about. That’s fine with me, it’s not my job to tell anybody what to think or feel about the work. I accept all conversation and criticisms.”
The “Lights Out” hitmaker, who attended a recent BLM rally in his native North Carolina, then encouraged his fans to “follow Noname,” explaining he holds no ill will against her and her message. “I love and honor her as a leader in these times. She has done and is doing the reading and the listening and the learning on the path that she truly believes is the correct one for our people,” Cole continued.
“Meanwhile a n**ga like me just be rapping. I haven’t done a lot of reading and I don’t feel well equipped as a leader in these times. But I do a lot of thinking. And I appreciate her and others like her because they challenge my beliefs and I feel that in these times that’s important. We may not agree with each other but we gotta be gentle with each other.”
Other hip-hop stars have since weighed in on the controversy, with Chamillionaire reminding fans “J. Cole isn’t your enemy” while Chance the Rapper argued Cole was wrong to turn the disagreement into a song.
“Yet another L (loss) for men masking patriarchy and gaslighting as constructive criticism,” he tweeted.
Responding to a fan’s comment suggesting Chance was taking the dispute between his former collaborators too far, he replied, “They both my peoples but only one of them put out a whole song talking about how the other needs to reconsider their tone and attitude in order to save the world. It’s not constructive and undermines all the work Noname has done. It’s not BWs (black women’s) job to spoon feed us. We grown (sic).”

  • 6ix9ine Trolls Meek Mill After New Song Fails to Chart High on Billboard Hot 100

    Instagram

The ‘GOOBA’ hitmaker is revisiting his previous claim that the Philadelphia rapper and Future can only chart high when Drake is featured on their tracks.
    Jun 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tekashi69 a.k.a. 6ix9ine clearly has a lot of time to think of others’ businesses while he remains under house arrest. The New York City artist recently debuted his new collaboration with Nicki Minaj, but he posted about the commercial performance of Meek Mill’s new song “Other Side of America” instead on his Instagram account.
After the Philadelphia star’s new track debuted at No. 64 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100, the “FEFE” hitmaker did not miss the chance to clown his enemy. Revisiting his last week’s claim that both Meek and Future can only chart high when Drake is featured on their tracks, he commented on the news about Meek’s new song, “This what happens to bums when they don’t have Drake to carry them on they song.” The post has since been deleted from his page, though.
During his Instagram Live while promoting “TROLLZ” with Nicki last week, 6ix9ine talked about the effect Drake has got on helping Meek and Future rank high on Billboard charts. He also accused the Dream Chasers Records founder of hanging with snitches.
“I don’t got no animosity toward Desiree,” the 24-year-old said. “Meek Mill, you’re first. So Desiree Perez, she is an executive at Roc Nation. She’s an executive at Roc Nation. Desiree Perez was arrested and is a Roc Nation executive who works with Meek Mill. You see Meek Mill right here with Desiree Perez. She is part of their prison reform with Jay-Z at Roc Nation. She is a executive at Roc Nation, but then you go saying we don’t f**k with rats. Your executive is a rat.”
His social media feuds with fellow rappers aside, 6ix9ine aims to have his new song debuting at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100, after he failed to do so with his first post-prison track “GOOBA”. “We going #1,” so he posted on Tuesday, June 16. “Nothing will stop me. You can’t cheat me. Blackballed don’t work for me. Im to big of a star.”

He added in the caption, “IM GOING TO SHOW YOU THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO FOLLOW THE RULES OF HIP HOP.. BE A LEADER NEVER A FOLLOWER IM TO BIG OF A SUPERSTAR … THEY WANTED ME TO FALLOFF SINCE 2017 IM STILL HERE 3 YEARS LATER MAKING THE MOST NOISE !! !! !! !! !! !! AND I THANK THE BEST FANBASE IN THE WORLD.”
