Myleene Klass Describes Hear'Say Reunion as Going 'Backwards'

The British presenter explains that, while she refuses to ‘go backwards’ and reunite with her Hear’Say bandmates, she gives them her blessing to regroup.

    Jan 19, 2021
AceShowbiz – Myleene Klass won’t “go backwards” and reunite with Hear’Say.
It was claimed last month the “Pure and Simple” group – which also included Kym Marsh, Noel Sullivan, Suzanne Shaw, and Danny Foster – would be getting back together to mark 20 years since they were formed on TV show “Popstars” and while the 42-year-old star confirmed she was approached about the possibility, she wasn’t interested because her pop career feels like a “lifetime” ago.
“They asked me. I told them, ‘Go forth, with my blessing’,” she told You magazine. “Look at where we are. We are mothers of blended families and second marriages and Kym’s a granny. It’s a lifetime ago. If I go backwards, I won’t know who I am. I hope it works. I will be cheering the loudest.”
Kym recently played down reports of a pop “comeback” for the band.

She said, “It was reported that Hear’Say are in talks to reunite to mark our 20th anniversary. The truth is that, while we have been talking and it would be nice to do something to mark 20 years, right now we don’t have any plans to make a comeback.”
“We’ve basically all reconnected during lockdown and have been chatting on Zoom and doing a bit of reminiscing, talking about the fact it will be 20 years soon. We’ve obviously all had much more time on our hands, so it’s been lovely to catch up.”
After forming on “Popstars”, the band had a huge hit with “Pure and Simple” and released two studio albums in quick succession, “Popstars” and “Everybody”.
Kym departed the band in January 2002, with new member Johnny Shentall joining in February, before Hear’Say split in October of that year.

The New Radicals to Reunite for First Time in Over 20 Years for Joe Biden's Inauguration Parade

    Redferns/Mick Hutson

Gregg Alexander and his bandmates are set to reunite for the first time in more than two decades to perform their classic single ‘You Get What You Give’ at the upcoming big event.

    Jan 19, 2021
AceShowbiz – The New Radicals are to reunite for the first time in over 20 years to perform their hit “You Get What You Give” at Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ Parade Across America event.
The 1998 tune had a popularity boost during Biden/Harris’ 2020 campaign trail when it was handpicked to be the walk-on tune for Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff.
The reunion – the group’s first gig since 1999 – will be the closing act for the virtual parade, which will take place after Biden and Harris are sworn in on 20 January (21).
“If there’s one thing on Earth that would possibly make us get the band together, if only for a day, it is the hope that our song could be even the tiniest beacon of light in such a dark time,” the band’s frontman Gregg Alexander said in a statement.
“America knows in its heart that things will get bright again with a new administration and a real plan for vaccines on the way. That’s the message of the song… this world is gonna pull through.”

Meanwhile, Biden previously revealed the song became his family’s “theme song” to help rally son Beau Biden while he was battling cancer.
“During breakfast, Beau would often make me listen to what I thought was his theme song, You Get What You Give by the New Radicals,” Biden wrote in his 2017 autobiography, “Promise Me, Dad”. “Even though Beau never stopped fighting and his will to live was stronger than most – I think he knew that this day might come. The words to the song are: This whole damn world can fall apart. You’ll be ok, follow your heart.”
Concluding his statement, Alexander added, “Performing the song again after such a long time is a huge honour because we all have deep respect for Beau’s military service and such high hopes for the unity and normalcy Joe and Kamala will bring our country again in this time of crisis.”
Biden and Harris are taking over from outgoing U.S. president Donald Trump and vice president Mike Pence.
Tune in here: YouTube. A time for the event has yet to be confirmed.

Covid-Positive Singer Chesca to Go Ahead With MLK Day Performance

    Instagram

The Latin singer is pressing ahead with her scheduled performance as a part of Joe Biden’s Martin Luther King Day celebrations despite contracting coronavirus.

    Jan 19, 2021
AceShowbiz – Latin singer Chesca will be performing in isolation as part of U.S. President-elect Joe Biden’s Martin Luther King Day celebrations after testing positive for COVID-19.
The artist had been booked to join the likes of fellow musicians Andra Day, Aloe Blacc, Bebe Winans, Diane Warren, and Yo-Yo Ma for the pre-inauguration event on Monday (18Jan21), but on Saturday, she revealed her plans had to be rejigged as she had been diagnosed with a mild case of the coronavirus.
In a message written in Spanish, Chesca told fans she contracted the virus after a recording session at a studio in Miami, Florida, where one of the producers appeared to be ill. He insisted his ailing health was just down to a hangover, but was subsequently diagnosed with COVID – and then everyone else involved in the session found out they had been infected, too.
Chesca told TMZ, “Luckily none of us are experiencing bad symptoms and feel OK. We all tested positive as well. I have mild to zero symptoms and I feel good, just a bit of body aches.”
However, Chesca is refusing to let the virus derail her involvement in the MLK Day festivities, and she will instead be performing in a room completely alone so as not to expose anyone else to the coronavirus.

“I feel good and I am doing the performance on my own,” she explained. “They are putting a camera (in the room) and I’ll be alone.”
Other notable figures set to join in the holiday event include actors Rosario Dawson and Sean Patrick Thomas, and civil rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton and members of King’s family.
While the majority of the Washington, D.C. celebrations will be staged remotely, some appearances will be held in person, with organisers abiding by COVID safety guidelines.
The show, titled, “United We Serve: A Celebration of the National MLK Day of Service”, is set to kick off at 8pm ET and will air online at bideninaugural.org, as well as on various social media and streaming platforms, including YouTube.
Biden and his Vice President-elect, Kamala Harris, will be inaugurated on Wednesday, with performers including Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez.

Artist of the Week: Olivia Rodrigo

The Disney star is sad no more as her breakup anthem propels her to the top spot on various music charts and sets a new record on the streaming site Spotify.

    Jan 18, 2021
AceShowbiz – Olivia Rodrigo was heartbroken when her relationship with co-star Joshua Bassett came to an end, but the 17-year-old Disney actress had the last laugh as she broke record and shot up to the top spot on music charts with her breakup anthem.
Olivia poured her heart out in the emotional pop ballad “Drivers License”. The star of “High School Musical” mockumentary series belted out lyrics about pining over an ex-boyfriend who’s quick to move on with another girl following their separation.
The singer said the debut single was “very very close” to her heart. While she didn’t give out any names, many believed she wrote the song for Joshua who has since found a new love in Sabrina Carpenter who matched the love rival depicted in the lyrics.

Olivia said in an interview, “When I came up with ‘Drivers License’, I was going through a heartbreak that was so confusing to me, so multifaceted. Putting all those feelings into a song made everything seem so much simpler and clearer – and at the end of the day, I think that’s the whole purpose of songwriting. There’s nothing like sitting at the piano in my bedroom and writing a really sad song. It’s truly my favorite thing in the world.”
She touched many hearts around the world with her raw emotion. Expected to make a high debut on Billboard Hot 100, she has already hit the top spot in U.K, Australia, and many other countries. She also ruled the chart on various streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple, and Amazon.
On top of that, Olivia broke the Spotify record for most streams in a day for a non-Christmas tune. Released on January 8, it raked in over 15.17 million global streams on January 11 then broke its own record with over 17.01 million streams the following day. Ed Sheeran previously set the record in 2017 with 2.247 million streams for “Shape of You”.
To make her feat even sweeter, she received support from Taylor Swift as “Drivers License” trailed behind Taylor’s “Evermore” tracks. “I say that’s my baby and I’m really proud,” so Taylor gushed, to which Olivia responded in kind, “I can’t believe this. This is definitely the highlight of my senior year.”

AceShowbiz – Mayor Sylvester Turner has spoken up after Bow Wow came under fire over a packed performance in Houston, Texas over the weekend. Taking to his official Twitter account, the Mayor of Houston let the rapper and everyone know that he and officials in the city keep an eye on his upcoming performances.
“These events that are scheduled with @BowWowPromoTeam today in Houston are on our radar,” Turner tweeted on Sunday, January 17. Bow Wow performed to a packed crowd at a club in Houston on Friday night, January 15. In footage he shared on his own Instagram Stories, the 33-year-old star was seen performing his 2005 hit “Like You” amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He was also photographed not wearing a mask at the event.

Weighing on the gig, actor Zach Braff tweeted along with a clip of Bow Wow’s performance, “I thought about it and have decided I’m not willing to die for Bow Wow,” Zach Braff tweeted. “Insecure” star Natasha Rothwell agreed that Bow Wow’s performance wasn’t worthy to die for, writing, “For… Bow Wow…?”
#OscarsSoWhite creator April Reign chimed in, “Y’all clowned Bow Wow for having 15 women in that rowboat, acting like he was doing something special, so he threw a whole mask-optional concert in the middle of a [pandemic]. Mr. Wow’s ego sure is fragile. And potentially deadly.”
Bow Wow responded to the backlash in a series of now-deleted tweets on Saturday. The actor/reality TV star, whose real name is Shad Gregory Moss, wrote, “I just woke up… aww god. Here we go.” Defending himself for the gig, he claimed that he wore his mask until he was up onstage.
“Man i been hosting parties all last year,” so he wrote. “I wore my mask in the club. I cant host with that thing on. I promise my mask i wore in the club up until i got on the mic. That simple. Keep sanitizer on me at all times.”
He added in another tweet, “IT WASNT MY PARTY. But of course ima get the blame.” He went on pointing out states’ different regulations amid the pandemic. “Man texas is open. Atl is open. I cant help i live in a city where we been open since last spring,” he acknowledged.

Meanwhile, Bee Gees icon Barry Gibb has scored his first solo chart-topper with “Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers’ Songbook (Vol. 1)”.
