    AceShowbiz – The Killers poked fun at U.S. President Donald Trump while addressing their lack of Grammy nominations.
    The rockers failed to pick up any nods for their 2020 album “Imploding the Mirage” when the nominations were announced on Tuesday (24Nov20), prompting the group to take to Twitter with a tongue-in-cheek response.
    Jokingly mirroring the American leader’s unwillingness to concede the U.S. election following Joe Biden’s victory earlier this month, as well as his unfounded accusations of voter fraud, they quipped, “OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED INTO THE COUNTING ROOMS.”

    “WE WON THE GRAMMYS, GOT LOADS OF LEGAL VOTES,” they added. “BAD THINGS HAPPENED WHICH OUR OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SEE. NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE.”

    The “Mr. Brightside” stars weren’t the only ones left disappointed by the Grammy nominations – Canadian star The Weeknd has demanded answers after he failed to be nominated for a single prize, despite landing critical and commercial success with album “After Hours” and one of the biggest-selling songs of 2020, “Blinding Lights”.
    After The Weeknd accused the Grammys’ organisers of being “corrupt,” officials responded by insisting they are “surprised” he wasn’t recognised. They also noted there are “fewer” nominations to award than there are “deserving artists.”

    AceShowbiz – The Weeknd has attacked the Recording Academy’s Grammy voters again a day after he missed out on a mention for the 2021 prizegiving.
    Despite his record-breaking year on the charts and critical and commercial acclaim with the album “After Hours” and hits like “Blinding Lights”, the Canadian hitmaker failed to land a single nomination on Tuesday (24Nov20) when the Grammy nods were announced.
    Calling voters “corrupt” in a tweet on Tuesday, the singer has now revealed he was working on a performance at the Grammys, which had been scheduled a week before his half-time show at the Super Bowl in February (21).
    “Collaboratively planning a performance for weeks to not being invited? In my opinion zero nominations = you’re not invited!” he wrote.

    The comment has sparked speculation The Weeknd and Grammy bosses clashed over his decision to headline the Super Bowl, but Recording Academy chief Harvey Mason, Jr. insists that’s not the case.
    “We understand that The Weeknd is disappointed at not being nominated,” he says in a statement. “I was surprised and can empathize with what he’s feeling. His music this year was excellent, and his contributions to the music community and broader world are worthy of everyone’s admiration.
    “We were thrilled when we found out he would be performing at the upcoming Super Bowl and we would have loved to have him also perform on the Grammy stage the weekend before… unfortunately, every year, there are fewer nominations than the number of deserving artists. But as the only peer-voted music award, we will continue to recognize and celebrate excellence in music while shining a light on the many amazing artists that make up our global community.”
    “To be clear, voting in all categories ended well before The Weeknd’s performance at the Super Bowl was announced, so in no way could it have affected the nomination process.”

    The ‘Slow Rush’ star dominates this year’s Australian music awards with a total of five prizes including the coveted Album of the Year and Producer of the Year.

    AceShowbiz – Tame Impala were the big winners at Australia’s ARIA Awards on Wednesday (25Nov20), taking home five prizes including the coveted Album of the Year gong.
    Kevin Parker’s psychedelic group’s LP “The Slow Rush” won the biggest accolade of the night, while it also earned them the Best Group and Best Rock Album awards. Tame Impala was also named Engineer of the Year and Producer of the Year.
    Rapper Sampa the Great also won three gongs, with her album “The Return” bagging her the Best Female, Best Hip Hop Release, and Best Independent Release awards.
    Aboriginal musician Archie Roach also enjoyed success, receiving the Best Male and Best Adult Contemporary Album prizes for “Tell Me Why” as well as being inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

    Amy Shark took home two awards as her track “Everybody Rise” was named Best Pop Release, and she also bagged the Best Australian Live Act prize.
    Pop duo Lime Cordiale were selected as this year’s Breakthrough Artist while Harry Styles was named Best International Artist.
    Other winners at the ceremony included 5 Seconds of Summer, whose track “Teeth” won the Song of the Year gong, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, whose “Chunky Shrapnel” won Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album.
    Acts whose performances were beamed remotely into the audience-less ceremony at The Star Event Centre in Sydney, where Delta Goodrem acted as host, included Tame Impala, Sam Smith, amd Billie Eilish.
    The main winners of 2020 ARIA Awards are as follows:

    The singer snagged six nods for her surprise 2020 LP and her haunting track “Beautiful Ghosts” from the film adaptation of “Cats”, including Album of the Year, and Song of the Year for “Cardigan”.
    Taking to Instagram, Taylor shared a snap of herself and her team of collaborators via Skype and FaceTime as they celebrated the success face-to-face.
    The “ME!” hitmaker was joined via computer and iPhone by Jack Antonoff, Jonathan Low, and The National’s Aaron Dessner. “ask us how our days (sic) been,” the 30-year-old wrote in the caption.

    Taylor’s other nominations include Best Pop Vocal Album for “Folklore”, Best Pop Solo Performance for “Cardigan”, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her team up with Bon Iver on the moody “Exile”, and Best Song Written for Visual Media for “Beautiful Ghosts” – written with Andrew Lloyd Webber.
    Taylor, who made her debut in 2006 with her successful self-titled album, has amassed 10 Grammy wins in total and 40 overall nominations. Notably, she’s one of only two female solo artists, along with Adele, to win Album of the Year twice for her solo recordings, according to Recording Academy chiefs.
    The Grammy Awards, hosted by Daily Show’s Trevor Noah, will air on CBS on 31 January, 2021, from Staples Center in Los Angeles.

    In other news, Taylor is set to debut an “intimate” concert film for her latest album, “Folklore”. Titled “olklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions”, the concert movie will premiere exclusively on Disney Plus on Wednesday, November 25, at 12:01 A.M. P.T.

    AceShowbiz – Justin Bieber is among the nominees at the 2021 Grammy Awards. The Canadian star, who scored four Grammy nods on Tuesday, November 24, revealed in a new Instagram post that he’s grateful for the honor, though he believed that he’s being put in the wrong category.
    The “Love Yourself” hitmaker received nominations for Best Pop Solo Performance for “Yummy,” Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Intentions”, Best Pop Vocal Album for “Changes” and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for his “10,000 Hours” collaboration with Dan + Shay. While he’s “flattered to be acknowledged and appreaciated for my artistry,” Justin wanted to clarify that “Changes” is an R&B album.
    “I am very meticulous and intentional about my music. With that being said I set out to make an R&B album. Changes was and is an R&B album. It is not being acknowledged as an R&B album which is very strange to me,” Justin explained.
    He went on to say, “I grew up admiring R&B music and wished to make a project that would embody that sound. For this not to be put into that category feels weird considering from the chords to the melodies to the vocal style all the way down to the hip hop drums that were chosen it is undeniably, unmistakably an R&B Album!”

    “Changes” was released back in Februay, serving as Justin’s fifth studio album and his first full-length release since 2015’s “Purpose”. “I feel like this is different than the previous albums just because of where I’m at in my life,” Justin said of the new album at the time. “We all have different stories; I’m just excited to share mine… It’s the music that I’ve loved the most of anything I’ve done.”

    AceShowbiz – The Recording Academy has spoken up amid the backlash over The Weeknd snub at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Despite still being one of the most celebrated artists in the industry today, the Canadian star who released his latest album “After Hours” in March didn’t get any nomination for the 63rd annual ceremony.
    Speaking to Billboard on the eve of nomination announcement, the Recording Academy’s interim President/CEO Harvey Mason Jr. briefly touched on The Weeknd snub, insinuating that the “Save Your Tears” crooner didn’t receive any nomination simply because he lost the spot to other artists. “For The Weeknd, in every year you only have a certain amount of people you can nominate for each category,” Mason said.
    Mason also explained Harry Styles’ absence on the “Big Four” categories, despite him still receiving nominations in other categories such as Best Music Video and Best Pop Vocal Album. As for Harry, he has some great nominations this year [even though he wasn’t nominated in the top categories],” he said. “We are excited about some of the other categories where he was nominated. It’s never easy to tell where people are going to land.”
    Mason added that The Academy had a “very diverse group of new voters” and didn’t have much to say when it was noted that these “new voters” seemed to value rising, lesser-known artists than those who have established careers and bodies of work. “[Hesitantly] Yeah, it’s interesting,” Mason admitted.

    Elsewhere in the interview, Mason doubled down on his explanation, “From year to year, it is really hard to predict who is going to be nominated and who’s not. I personally wish we could give everybody a nomination, but there are only a certain amount of slots. There were some amazing records that did not get nominated.”
    Meanwhile, The Weeknd has lashed out at The Academy, which he deemed “corrupt” for denying him any nomination. “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…,” he demanded on Tuesday, November 24 after the nominations were announced.

    TMZ additionally reported that the singer, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, likely got snubbed for the Grammy nominations after testy talks with Grammy brass about him performing at the Grammys and Super Bowl LV. The organization allegedly issued an ultimatum for the singer to choose either one of the events.
    Both parties eventually agreed that The Weeknd could do both, but the bitter back-and-forth reportedly pissed off Grammy honchos, which might have cost him the Grammy nominations.

    The 43-year-old star took on rival Gucci Mane in the latest “Verzuz” battle, with their feud coming to a head in the often-tense spar. However, in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Jeezy said he wouldn’t consider doing the same for 50 Cent and Freddie – who he was accused of calling out on his new track.
    “I wouldn’t say it was (a diss track), I just wrote a song about having therapy and clearing some closets in my mind on some things that were addressed that I’d never spoken on,” he said. “Those were just my opinions, my thoughts and my words. I’m grown enough to do it. It was therapeutic for me. If you go to a therapist, you go in for your session and you go back to the real world. That’s what I did, I wrote my thoughts on a pen and pad and let the world be my therapist. Now I’m just going on living my life. I’m grown.”

    Jeezy added that he wasn’t expecting anything other than some big hits from Mane in the “Verzuz” battle. But when it came to his response, the “Put On” star never intended to rise to the bait.
    “I didn’t expect him to come in otherwise. He did what he does,” he said. “My approach was more about my legacy and the classics that I have. Those same classics were played at Magic City at the beginning of my career, that’s the space I was in. I was playing for the people who love what I do. I didn’t have to go and play like Gucci was back and forth.”
    “I’m confident of who I am as a man, and I know what I’ve achieved and what I have to lose. I wasn’t going to let my ego lead. In that moment, unselfishly, as much as I would have loved to make it about me and him, it was bigger than us.
