Kate Hudson Understands Criticisms Over Her Autism Movie but Insists Lots of Love Was Put Into Film

    IMAX

The ‘Deepwater Horizon’ actress insists there was no negative intention behind the Sia-directed movie although she understands why some people feel apprehensive.

    Feb 22, 2021
AceShowbiz – Kate Hudson has acknowledged the backlash surrounding the portrayal of autism in her new film “Music”, insisting it’s “an important conversation to have.”
“Music”, singer Sia’s directorial debut, features the “Almost Famous” star as a recently-sober drug dealer who is suddenly made the guardian of her younger sister, a non-verbal special needs teen, played by dancer/actress Maddie Ziegler, who is not on the autism spectrum.
However, the movie has offended so many in the community and has even prompted calls for Hollywood Foreign Press Association bosses to pull the project’s two Golden Globe nominations.
Hudson insists there was no intention to offend with the project, but she can understand why people are so outraged.

“I think when people see the film, that they will see the amount of love and sensitivity that was put into it,” she told U.S. talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. “But it is an important conversation to have, not just about this movie, but as a whole – about representation.”
“For me, when I hear that there’s anybody that feels left out I feel terrible,” she continued. “It’s an ongoing and important dialogue to be had, about neurotypical actors portraying neurodivergent characters. It is an important one to have with people with experts and who know how to engage in the conversation. I encourage it, truly. I think that it’s important to say that we are listening.”
And despite the negative reactions to “Music”, Hudson is still “really excited” about her Golden Globe nod for Best Musical/Comedy Actress, adding, “I really wasn’t expecting it at all. It was very exciting.”
“Music” is also up for Best Musical/Comedy Picture at the upcoming ceremony.
Sia recently apologised following criticism of one scene, in which an autistic character is restrained, promising to attach a warning to the movie stating the film “in no way condones or recommends the use of restraint on autistic people.”

Leslie Mann Couldn't Remember Her Lines as She's Sweaty Mess When Filming With Judi Dench

    IFC Films

The ‘Knocked Up’ actress recalls working with her acting hero on the set of their new movie ‘Blithe Spirit’ and admits she struggled to remember her lines due to her jittery.

    Feb 21, 2021
AceShowbiz – Actress Leslie Mann was such a hot, sweaty mess when she worked with her hero Judi Dench, it took her two hours to “calm down” and film their scene together.
The “Knocked Up” star partnered with the British Oscar winner in the new film version of Noel Coward’s play “Blithe Spirit”, and really lost the plot when she got up close and personal with the great Dame.
“I was terrified,” Leslie told America’s “Live with Kelly and Ryan”. “It’s Judi Dench and she’s, like, one of my heroes. The first time we worked together, I didn’t get a chance to really talk to her much but they just kind of put us on a bed together because I’m a ghost haunting her while she’s trying to sleep…”
“I was sweating and nervous and I couldn’t remember my lines. It took me about two hours to calm down and be able to film the scene with her.”

      See also…

Even worse, she had no idea how to address the Dame.
“I didn’t know what to call her,” she added. “It didn’t feel right calling her Dame Judi or Mrs. Dench. I didn’t know how to refer to her.”
But Judi Dench helped Leslie Mann calm her nerves. “I think she knew I was nervous, I was probably sweating or something, and she went out of her way to make me feel comfortable and she set me at ease,” she said a previous interview.
Aside from struggling with her jittery when sharing scene with the Dame, the actress enjoyed most of the filming. She especially relished wearing the period outfits. “It was exciting to learn something new and a new way of doing things. All the costumes were so much fun, incredible to wear something other than what my characters would normally wear like jeans or t-shirts,” she said.

“An Ideal Husband” ‘s Oliver Parker will direct the project from a script by William Ivory, with principal photography scheduled to begin in June (21).

“And now to have Michael and Glenda – two iconic actors – agree to honour this story with their brilliance, it’s the cherry on the cake!”

Tahar Rahim Tortured for Real in True-Story Movie 'The Mauritanian' With Jodie Foster

    STX Entertainment

The Judas of ‘Mary Magdalene’ talks about his upcoming movie, recalling the torture scenes and the jittery at the prospect of working with Jodie Foster.

    Feb 21, 2021
AceShowbiz – Tahar Rahim was initially “a bit intimidated” at the prospect of working with Jodie Foster.
“The Serpent” actor stars opposite the veteran actress in “The Mauritanian” – in which he plays Mohamedou Ould Salahi, who was wrongly held at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp without charge or trial for 14 years – and was initially nervous about sharing the screen with her, but she quickly put him at ease.
“I felt a bit intimidated when we first met, but she relaxes you,” he told the Daily Mail newspaper’s Baz Bamingboye. “I used to compare acting to a tennis match but, with her, it’s more of a dance. You try it once or twice. You follow, then she follows and, in the middle of that, something happens.”
The movie is based on a true story and the actor felt it was vital he was tortured for real in some of the scenes.

“My job is to make it authentic,” he explained. “If I don’t taste it, I’m going to fake it – and if I fake it, I can’t believe in it. And neither can the audience. I had bruises for weeks after the shoot.”
“My ankles and arms were bruised. More the ankles, because they were shackled all day long. I played it for real. The water torture, too.”
Tahar met the real Salahi on Skype, and later in person, and was amazed at how relaxed he was until they talked about his experiences of being tortured.
“He was smiling and cracking jokes,” he recalled. “I kept wondering how this was possible, after everything he’d been through? But, at some point in the conversation, when the talk came to the tough questions of torture, his face would change, as if he was going back there…”

Michael Caine to Reunite With Glenda Jackson on 'The Great Escaper'

    WENN

‘An Ideal Husband’ director Oliver Parker, who will helm this biographical drama from a script by William Ivory, calls the casting of the two iconic actors a ‘cherry on the cake.’

    Feb 20, 2021
AceShowbiz – Acclaimed British actors Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson are reuniting onscreen to star in biographical drama “The Great Escaper”.
The movie centers on World War II veteran Bernard Jordan, played by Caine, who breaks out of his care home to attend the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Landings in Normandy, France in 2014. In order to commemorate their fallen comrades, he then staged a “great escape” from his care home to join fellow war veterans on a beach in Normandy.
“It was the story we all tell ourselves to make war and old age bearable,” a plot description reads. ”The bitter-sweet script explores the reality with wit and a very big heart. Bernie’s adventure, spanning a mere 48 hours, also marked the culmination of his 60-year marriage to Irene (Jackson). The story celebrates their love without sentimentality and with an eye to the lessons we might all learn from the Greatest Generation.”
