Octavia Spencer Joins Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell in New 'Christmas Carol' Adaptation

    WENN

The ‘Fruitvale Station’ actress has been added to the cast ensemble of the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the classic holiday story by the famed Charles Dickens.

    Feb 10, 2021
AceShowbiz – Octavia Spencer is set to join Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell in “Spirited” – a new take on Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”.
The Oscar-winning actress has joined the cast of the Apple TV+ movie, which will update and reimagine the classic story as a musical.
The project is helmed by Sean Anders and John Morris, who are directing from their own screenplay. The duo have previously collaborated with Will on the 2015 movie “Daddy’s Home”.
Insiders suggest that Reynolds will play the Scrooge-like lead who receives visits from the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future while Ferrell is expected to play Present.

Spencer is apparently close to a deal to play Ryan’s good-natured co-worker who helps Present teach the man kindness during the festive season. She is expected to do her own singing in the AppleTV+ flick.
Anders and Morris are producing the movie with Will’s Gloria Sanchez banner, Ryan’s production company Maximum Effort and Mosaic.
The holiday story has been adapted many times for film, stage, and opera. One comedy movie fronted by Bill Murray came out in 1988 and a musical featuring Colin Baker was released in 2015. There was also a 2009 animated movie starring the likes of Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, and Robin Wright.
Meanwhile, Octavia Spencer was last seen in movie “The Witches” which is led by Anne Hathaway in 2020. She also lent her voice to Robert Downey Jr.’s “Dolittle”, Tom Holland and Chris Pratt’s “Onward”, and Melissa McCarthy’s “Superintelligence”.
Her other next movie releases include superhero comedy “Thunder Force” and sci-fi thriller “Invasion”.

'Bridgerton' Author Hopes for More Racy Scenes Between Phoebe Dynevor and Rege-Jean Page in Season 2

    Netflix

The writer of ‘Bridgerton’ novels wants more raunchy scenes between the mad-love couple, Daphne and the Duke of Hastings, in the next sophomore installment.

    Feb 10, 2021
AceShowbiz – The author of “Bridgerton” has called for more sex scenes involving season one stars Daphne and the Duke of Hastings in next instalment of the Netflix hit.
Julia Quinn, who wrote the novels the programme is based on and consults on the period drama, is keen to see more of the sex-mad couple, played by Phoebe Dynevor and Rege-Jean Page in the second season, after their passionate love story captivated viewers in season one.
Despite the second book in Julia’s series focusing on Anthony – played by Jonathan Bailey – the author has insisted Daphne and the Duke must return for more.
When asked if the couple would come back in season two, she told Britain’s The Sun newspaper, “I hope so. They do show up in the book. The series doesn’t follow the book word for word – and I don’t think (it) should. The story of each book plays out in a season, but it’s not the only story.”

      See also…

“So I hope so, for no other reason than Daphne has the right to interfere with Anthony’s life. To deny her that chance would be criminal. I think it would be lovely to see.”
And whilst Julia hasn’t read the proposed scripts for season two yet, she is confident fans will get to see Anthony “taken down so many pegs.”
“I haven’t seen the scripts yet so I don’t necessarily know what they’re going to do, but I did write the story so I know a little bit about it,” she grinned.
“Anthony is going to get it bad. Jonathan Bailey played him so well; you still love him, but he needs to be taken down a peg, and he is going to be taken down so many pegs. It’s awesome.”
“Bridgerton” is currently Netflix’s most-watched series after 82 million households tuned in following its release in December (20).

Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz Gave Up Oscar Nomination for 'The Favourite' Co-Star Olivia Colman

    Fox Searchlight Pictures

According to Olivia Colman, her co-stars in the 2018 royal movie declined being nominated for Best Actress at the 2019 Academy Awards because they felt she deserved the nod.

    Feb 10, 2021
AceShowbiz – Olivia Colman’s “The Favourite” co-stars Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz secretly declined being nominated for a Best Actress Oscar because they felt she deserved the trophy.
The three actresses starred together in the 2018 drama, and although they were all leading ladies, only Olivia received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress – which she won for her role as Queen Anne – whilst both Emma and Rachel, who played Abigail Masham and Lady Sarah Churchill respectively, were put up for Best Supporting Actress.
And now, Olivia has revealed her co-stars – who both lost out in the Best Supporting Actress category – actively chose not to put themselves forward for a Best Actress nomination because they believed Olivia deserved the gong the most.
She told Total Film magazine, “What I didn’t realise for the Oscars was that you are meant to say what category you want to go up for. I went: ‘No, that’s rude. I’m not doing that.’ ”
“And also because I felt that we were all three equal people – Emma, me and Rachel were three equals. I said: ‘If they can’t change it so that we can all be equals, then I don’t want to do it, because it’s not right.’ ”

      See also…

“So I refused to say it. I said: ‘We can either all go up for lead, or all go up for supporting.’ ”
Explaining the kind deed her co-stars had done in secret, she then explained, “But then what I didn’t realise … someone let slip that Emma and Rachel had both decided – which makes me feel quite emotional – that they would go supporting to make me go lead, because they said they’d both had it, so it was my turn.”
“Isn’t that amazing? That’s two incredible friends. I said I was not doing it unless we could all be equal. So they ignored me, and did something selfless and charitable.”
Rachel had previously taken home an Oscar in 2006 for Best Supporting Actress in “The Constant Gardener” while Emma won Best Actress for “La La Land” in 2017.
And this year could see another big win for 47-year-old Olivia, who is up for two Golden Globes and two SAG Awards for her work in Netflix hit “The Crown” – in which she plays Queen Elizabeth II – and “The Father”.
The Academy are set to announce the nominees for the 2021 Oscars ceremony on March 15.

Jennifer Lopez Admits She Was Hurt by Oscar Snub

    Allure Magazine/Daniella Midenge

The ‘Jenny From the Block’ hitmaker talks about being overlooked at the Academy Awards last year for her stripper role in ‘Hustlers’ and describes the snub as ‘a sting.’

    Feb 10, 2021
AceShowbiz – Jennifer Lopez admits being overlooked for an Academy Award nomination in 2020 for her role in “Hustlers” “was a sting.”
The “Jenny from the Block” singer was hotly tipped for awards success for her acclaimed role as stripper Ramona in the 2019 box office hit, also starring Cardi B, Constance Wu, and Lizzo, but she failed to bag a nomination on the Academy Awards shortlist. She followed up the movie with a Super Bowl performance and a new album.
When asked in an interview why she pushes herself so hard she explains, “If you work hard, you can accomplish something.” She told Allure, “You can win the medal.”
However, she acknowledges, that despite all her effort, there is one medal she didn’t win.
“I was talking about this the other day. (My production partner) Elaine (Goldsmith-Thomas) made a post where she listed all the things I had been nominated for and won that season,” says Lopez, referring to the post-“Hustlers” awards season. “And when it came to the Oscars, it was so obviously absent. It was a sting.”
She continues, “I was like, ‘Okay, when you’re supposedly in everybody else’s mind supposed to be nominated and you’re not, what does that mean? Is it really real? Are the other ones real and this one isn’t?’ It came to a point where I was like, ‘This is not why I do this. I don’t do this to have 10 Oscars sitting on my mantel or 20 Grammys.”

      See also…

“The point is creating and the joy that I get from the things I get to put out in the world that entertain and inspire and empower people,” Lopez says. “I think my life is about more than awards.”

Elsewhere in the chat, the mother of two shared how her son, Max, 11, encouraged her to attend a Black Lives Matter protest.
“I remember my son coming to me and saying, ‘You know, Mom, some of my YouTubers tell us what we should do, and I listen to them. You have a lot of people that feel that way about you.’ It was his way of saying that I should do something… I said, ‘I want you guys to make me the signs because Mommy wants to get out there too.’ ”
The star, who admitted she’s not used to being in big crowds anymore, found the experience a little scary at first.
“(My life is) car to back door to security to this to that. It was scary. I got a little anxiety, like, ‘How do you get out of the crowd?’ ” she says. “Once I got (into it), to be in the masses like that, I loved it. Like, ‘Wow, there’s a movement happening.’ So many people, different ages, races – it was a beautiful thing.”

Katy Perry Claims COVID-19 Gives 'American Idol' Hopefuls Chance to Chase Dreams

    Instagram

During an interview on ‘Live with Kelly and Ryan’, the ‘Roar’ hitmaker explains why she believes the singing competition show gains respect from other leading lights in the entertainment industry.

    Feb 9, 2021
AceShowbiz – Katy Perry insists the COVID-19 crisis has a silver lining – it’s given wannabe performers to chase their dreams.
The “American Idol” judge is currently at work on the latest season of the long-running talent show, which premieres on Valentine’s Day (February 14), and admits the latest talent pool, which emerged from a difficult 2020, is sweeter than ever.
“I think we’re all living in this weird, wild, crazy moment where a lot of our dreams have been put on hold,” the new mum explained during an appearance on “Live with Kelly & Ryan”, “and I think a lot of the contestants said to themselves, when they clicked a Zoom link to audition…, ‘I have nothing to lose’.”
“Because nothing is promised. We don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow so (they think), ‘I’m just going to go and swing for my dreams’.”

      See also…

“So that means the floodgates were open… Nobody was busy. They were just ready to take a hold of their dreams,” the “Dark Horse” singer added.

And she’s thrilled, too, that American Idol is really commanding respect from other leading lights in the entertainment industry.
“It (show) just keeps getting better and better,” she smiled. “I think people (in the business) trust us, and artists especially and real musicians especially, not just great singers but people with the whole package.”
“And that really is what defines an American Idol – because it’s not called American Singer. You’ve got to check so many different boxes and that’s what these kids are coming out and doing…”.

Kellyanne Conway's Daughter Claudia's 'American Idol' Audition Is Teased in a New Promo

    ABC

The 16-year-old, who has been making headlines for her drama with her politician mom, also takes to her TikTok account to share a video of her addressing her ‘American Idol’ appearance.

    Feb 9, 2021
AceShowbiz – People will get more of Claudia Conway this month. The daughter of Kellyanne Conway, former senior counselor to Donald Trump, is set to appear in new season 19 of “American Idol” that will premiere on Sunday, February 14.
In a clip that was released on Monday, February 8, the 16-year-old is seen taking the stage while admitting that she’s both “very nervous” and “very excited.” Introducing herself, she says, “I’m Claudia Conway. My parents are high-profile political figures.”
Meanwhile, judge Katy Perry is telling her, “We want an American idol.” It remains to be seen whether she says that in a good or bad situation.

Claudia also took to her TikTok account to share a video of her addressing her “American Idol” appearance. “I know that half the world sees me as a joke because of my parents and whatever bulls**t. I’m just a 16-year-old with passions, and you know, trying to figure out the future,” she told her 1.7M followers on the video-sharing platform.
“This is a really good opportunity. A really f***ing cool opportunity that I went with immediately, because if ‘American Idol’ reaches out to you, you don’t say no,” she said.
Claudia, who has been trolling her mom over her support for Trump, made headlines earlier this year after she suggested that she was being verbally abused by her mother Kellyanne. She also accused the politician of leaking her topless pic on Internet. She said that her mother must have gotten the snap from her personal phone when she confiscated her phone months ago. However, she assumed that Kellyanne could have accidentally posted it or someone hacked her phone.
The long-running drama between the mom-daughter duo also involved police at one point as Kellyanne was reportedly getting a police visit over abuse claims. In a January video, Claudia filmed her mom who told police about her, “She’s upset, she’s been upset for a week because we had a tough call with her school, I knew she had been upset.” Captioning the clip, Claudia wrote over the video, “guys she’s telling the police she is unsafe because she is getting threats. The facts!”

Rob Lowe Believes He Is Not Destined to Be 'McDreamy' in 'Grey's Anatomy'

    Instagram

Aside from sharing his thought on turning down the part of Dr. Derek Shepherd, the ‘Parks and Recreation’ actor gets candid about his 30-year battle with sobriety.

    Feb 9, 2021
AceShowbiz – Rob Lowe is glad he passed on a leading “Grey’s Anatomy” role, because fans would never have called him ‘McDreamy’.
The actor turned down the part of Dr. Derek Shepherd and tells Variety Patrick Dempsey was always destined to play the medic.
“This is what longevity, experience and recovery give you,” the former drug abuser tells the outlet. “There are no accidents. Whatever decision you come to, if you come to it from the right place, it’s never wrong.”
“Me in that part isn’t as interesting as Patrick in that part. If it’d been me they (fans) wouldn’t have called me ‘McDreamy’; they would have called me Rob Lowe. Had I done Grey’s, I wouldn’t have been in Parks and Recreation. That alone for me is enough.”

      See also…

In the interview, Lowe also got candid about his 30 year battle with sobriety, revealing cocaine was everywhere in Hollywood when he became a badly-behaved Brat Pack star.
“It was no different than craft services,” he explains. “Where are the Red Vines, and where is the great Peruvian blow…? Cocaine was the thing that successful people did. There was always that wonderful moment when, as an active drug abuser, you’d go on the set and figure out which department was selling the coke.”
He also opened up about kicking his habit, adding, “Nothing can make you get sober except you wanting to do it. The threat of losing a marriage, losing a job, incarceration – you name the threat, it will not be enough to do it. It’s got to be in you.”
“And the only way to stay in recovery is to be honest with yourself on a minute-by-minute basis. No secrets, no double life. And you have to get real.”

'American Horror Story' Season 10 to See Fan-Favorite's Return

    FX

Prior to this, series creator Ryan Murphy revealed that the upcoming season of the FX anthology series will welcome newcomer Macaulay Culkin, who is set to have ‘crazy, erotic sex’ scene with Kathy Bates.

    Feb 9, 2021
AceShowbiz – More details about upcoming season 10 of FX’s “American Horror Story” have found their way out online. Coming from creator Ryan Murphy, fans now know that the new season will see one fan-favorite cast member returning to the anthology series and that is none other than Frances Conroy.
Ryan revealed the exciting news as he responded to an Instagram account that shared a rumor that Frances would be back on “American Horror Story”. Confirming the speculations, the 55-year-old TV hitmaker wrote in the comment section, “I can confirm our beloved Frannie is indeed in this season. Xo.”
However, this is the only thing fans know so far about Frances’ involvement in the new season as details about her character remain to be seen.
Frances has appeared in “Murder House”, “Asylum”, “Coven”, “Freak Show”, “Roanoke”, “Cult”, “Apocalypse”, seven of the nine aired seasons of “American Horror Story”. She was last seen reprising her roles as Myrtle and Moira in “Apocalypse”. The actress also earned Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie back in 2012 and 2014.

      See also…

In addition to Frances, season 10 will feature newcomer Macaulay Culkin. In an interview back in May 2020, Ryan revealed that he had “always loved” the “Home Alone” star’s work. “I loved everything that he’s done, I love the stuff he did in ‘Home Alone’, I also loved the sort of the older, more recent stuff that he did. And he hasn’t worked in a while,” he explained before hinting at “this very, very great insane part.” He added, “And I asked to speak to him on the phone and he said OK.”
“[When] I cast, I never let people read things, usually. I said, ‘OK, here’s the pitch.’ And I told them the character and I told him he has crazy, erotic sex with Kathy Bates and does other things,” he continued. “And he paused and he goes, ‘This sounds like the role I was born to play.’ So, he signed up right then and there.”
He further gushed over the “Richie Rich” star, “We’re waiting for the crisis to be over because all those scripts are written and I’m excited for him to play that part. I’m excited for him to be in my world because I think…I’m gonna want to do a lot of things with him if he wants to work, because I think he’s fascinating and interesting, and I think he has a soul. There’s both a lightness and a darkness with Macaulay Culkin that I’m attracted to.”
Joining Frances and Macaulay are Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman, Finn Wittrock, Lily Rabe and Adina Porter.
