    Ethan Hawke to Receive Calls from the Dead in 'The Black Phone'

    The ‘Boyhood’ actor has been tapped to play a lead role in the upcoming movie, which marks his second collaboration with ‘Doctor Strange’ helmer Scott Derrickson.

    AceShowbiz – Ethan Hawke has reportedly been cast in “The Black Phone”.
    According to Deadline, the actor is set to reunite with director Scott Derrickson – with whom he worked on 2012 horror “Sinister” – on the upcoming Blumhouse flick, based on a short story by Joe Hill.
    Hawke will join Anthony Davies – thus far, the only other announced cast member – in the movie.
    Filming is set to get underway in North Carolina in February (21). A synopsis for the film teases, “John Finney is locked in a basement that’s stained with the blood of half a dozen other murdered children. In the cellar with him is an antique telephone, long since disconnected, but which rings at night with calls from the dead…”

    This project will mark Hawke’s ninth collaboration with producer Jason Blum, as they have also worked on the likes of “The Purge” and “The Good Lord Bird” in the past.
    Ethan Hawke has also been tapped for Marvel series “Moon Knight”. He joins Oscar Isaac who will play Marc Spector – an elite soldier and mercenary who fights crime after he becomes a vessel for Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon.
    The project is just one of the many series in development at the Mouse House streaming service following the conclusion of Phase Three of Marvel Cinematic Universe.
    The other projects include “WandaVision” starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, “Loki” starring Tom Hiddleston, “What If…?” starring Jeffrey Wright, “Ms. Marvel” starring Iman Vellani, “Hawkeye” with Jeremy Renner set to reprise his role and Hailee Steinfeld added in the supporting role, and “She-Hulk” with Tatiana Maslany attached to play the main heroine.

    AceShowbiz – Sarah Jessica Parker has shared the “Sex and the City” reboot will make reference to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
    The 55-year-old actress – who will resume her role as Carrie Bradshaw in the upcoming series, titled “And Just Like That…” – has revealed the show will make the coronavirus crisis part of the storyline.
    Speaking about the coronavirus pandemic, she said, “It will obviously be part of the storyline, because that’s the city (these characters) live in. And how has that changed relationships once friends disappear? I have great faith that the writers are going to examine it all …”

    “I think that Cynthia, Kristin, and I are all excited about the time that has passed. You know, who are they in this world now? Have they adapted? What part have they played? Where have they fallen short as women, as friends, and how are they finding their way? Did they move with momentum?     And Sarah also revealed the show will examine the characters’ modern day lives.
    Speaking to Vanity Fair magazine, she added, “What is their relationship to social media? What has changed? … What is their life like? For Carrie, who doesn’t have family beyond her friendships, where is she professionally? How have all of these political changes affected her work? Is she still writing a column? Has she written any more books? Or does she have a podcast? What does fashion mean to her now? How have the friendships changed or not changed, and has her social circle grown?”

    AceShowbiz – George Clooney is set to produce a new “Buck Rogers” TV series.
    According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clooney will executive produce the new show with his Smokehouse partner Grant Heslov. And while he’s currently not signed up to appear in the series, it’s reportedly being developed as a “starring vehicle” for him.
    The project is being developed as a “prestige limited series” by Legendary, with the hopes that it can also launch a film and animated spinoff if successful.
    Buck Rogers first appeared in Philip Francis Nowlan’s 1928 novel “Armageddon 2419 A.D”, before going on to land his own comic strip – which told the story of how Rogers was trapped in a coal mine during a cave-in, before waking up 500 years in the future.

    The comic strip, which also prompted other newspapers to launch strips such as “Flash Gordon” and “John Carter of Mars”, ran until 1967.
    It’s not the first time it’s been adapted into a TV series. However, the two TV shows in 1950 and 1979 were both short-lived.
    Clooney has not appeared on the small screen since “Catch-22” in 2019.
    That aside, Clooney has been flaunting her happy marriage to Amal Clooney. The “Ocean’s Eleven” star revealed in a new interview that they kept their tradition to exchange love letters despite spending more time than ever together under the same roof due to COVID-19 lockdown.
    “Even in lockdown, I’ll write a letter and slip it on her desk, or she’ll write a letter and leave it under the pillow,” the actor told AARP the Magazine. “I’m a big believer in letters. I have letters from Paul Newman, Walter Cronkite, Gregory Peck. I have them framed. I put them in the house.”

    AceShowbiz – Despite having multiple Grammy and Emmy Awards and a hit TV show, there are some people out there who don’t know Dave Chappelle. While it’s hard to believe, that was exactly what happened in the Thursday, January 28 episode of “Jeopardy!”.
    During a Double Jeopardy round in the episode of the popular game show, interim host Ken Jennings said, “This comedian displayed his drama chops in ‘A Star is Born’, playing Bradley Cooper’s longtime friend,” as a photo of Dave appeared on screen. Surprisingly, the contestants appeared to have no idea who the comedian was as no one was able to answer the question that was worth $2000.
    Twitterverse quickly reacted to it in total disbelief. “How did nobody know that was the GREAT Dave Chappelle?! #Jeopardy,” one user questioned. Another fan added, “No one recognized Dave Chappelle during Jeopardy? What is, ‘who are these people?’ ”

    Echoing the sentiment, another fan tweeted, “Watching Jeopardy last night and screaming at my TV ‘Who is Dave Chappelle, Who is Dave Chappelle???’ How can they not know who he is? Put down the book and watch some Netflix or Comedy Central. Live a little people!” Another comment read, “It’s crazy enough that a picture of @DaveChappelle was a $2000 clue on Jeopardy tonight – what’s more incredible is no one got it right!”
    Meanwhile, one person was more concerned about the fact that those people didn’t watch Oscar-winning movie “A Star Is Born” that stars Bradley Cooper and Lady GaGa. “I think it’s less about not knowing Dave Chappelle and more about the fact that those contestants didn’t see ‘A Star Is Born’. #Jeopardy,” the person wrote.
    While that particular moment stunned Twitter users, Dave himself has yet to weigh in on the matter.

    AceShowbiz – Kenya Barris’ upcoming project has received strong opposition just as it’s begun taking shape. Following the casting of Zach Braff and Gabrielle Union in Disney+’s “Cheaper by the Dozen” movie remake, the prolific writer/producer has been dragged online for featuring a biracial couple instead of a black couple.
    Reacting directly to the casting news, one Twitter user wrote alongside a report of the article, “It’s time to file a class action lawsuit against Kenya Barris.” Another pointed out the problem with the project, “Just stop with f**king remakes, stop making it seem as though every relationship must be Black & white. This ain’t f**king unity. It’s pandering.”
    A third commenter added, “Like…somebody needs to do a study on this because lord. And it’s not even like they getting creative with it. It’s the same damn black + white/and or bi-racial formula. Like can he come up with something else????”
    A fourth one asked, “Now why is it ALWAYS a white man with a black woman when the family is ‘multiracial’.” Another felt “personally attacked by Kenya Barris” for pushing a mixed family in his upcoming project, while someone else offered a way out, “If they’re gonna continue to shove multi racial down our throats could they at least do sumn other than white with black….”

    Barris has not responded to the backlash.
    The forthcoming “Cheaper by the Dozen” is described as a reimagining of the family comedy that centers on a multiracial, blended family of 12, navigating a hectic home life while managing their family business. Braff is set to play the father, with Union as the mom.
    “I dreamt I married @gabunion and had 12 kids,” Braff celebrated landing the part in the project via Instagram on Thursday, January 28. “It came true!!!! Written by Kenya Barris!!!!! Let’s GO!” Barris added in the comment section, “This is gonna be AWESOME!!!!!”

    It is written and produced by “Black-ish” creator Barris, with Gail Lerner on board as director. Shawn Levy and Union will serve as executive producers. The movie is expected to be available to stream sometime in 2022.

    AceShowbiz – Armie Hammer has reportedly pulled out of a new TV series about the making of movie classic “The Godfather”, amid his ongoing social media sex scandal.
    The actor was set to play producer Al Ruddy in “The Offer”, but Deadline sources have revealed Hammer has stepped down after a string of exes came forward with claims about his alleged odd sexual appetites, with one sharing messages she and Armie reportedly exchanged.
    The news comes two weeks after Hammer exited Jennifer Lopez’s new Lionsgate movie, “Shotgun Wedding”, and the star-studded cast of “Gaslit”.

    Following the “Shotgun Wedding” exit, Armie released a statement, which read, “I’m not responding to these bulls**t claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that.”
    Josh Duhamel is reportedly in talks to replace Hammer in “Shotgun Wedding”, while his vacant roles in “Gaslit” and “The Offer” are being recast.
    Armie made headlines after being accused of having cannibal fantasies on the leaked DM. “I am 100 per cent a cannibal. I want to eat you,” one message read. Another message alleged that the actor had cut “the heart out of an animal” and ate it. Other screenshots include alleged messages from the actor asking if he can drink people’s blood.

    AceShowbiz – “Real Housewives” franchise may be one of hit TV franchises but not everyone is a fan of it. Among those who seemingly aren’t enjoying of the Bravo reality shows were TV host Meghan McCain and writer Evan Ross Katz.
    Evan started the conversation by writing on Twitter on Thursday, January 28, “It’s time to cancel RHOC,” referring to “The Real Housewives of Orange County”. Meghan seemingly couldn’t agree more. “Yes,” replied “The View” co-host.
    Andy Cohen, the executive producer of the franchise, quickly caught wind of the conversation. “I think you mean reBOOT,” so he told them. To that, Meghan responded, “I have thoughts…. also since I have both of your attention and currently live in the beltway – please Reboot DC housewives PLEASE.”
    Andy didn’t directly answer to Meghan’s request about rebooting “The Real Housewives of D.C.”, but he did say that he “loved RHDC.”

    Meanwhile, season 15 of “RHOC” stars Braunwyn Windham-Burke, Kelly Dodd, Shannon Beador, Gina Kirschenheiter, Emily Simpson and Elizabeth Lyn Vargas. Braunwyn and Kelly were feuding last season with the latter accusing the mother of seven of faking her alcoholism for a story line.
    “I know I cannot film with Braunwyn,” the Positive Beverage founder claimed during an Instagram Live on Wednesday, January 27. “I know for a fact that I cannot film with her. There’s just no way, and if she comes back then I’m out because I know for a fact that I cannot. She’s dangerous and calling people racists and homophobic.”
    Back in 2020, Braunwyn clapped back at Kelly for saying that she was exaggerating her alcoholism issues. “I’ve learned through others that when people have a hard time with me being sober it’s more about their own issue. Were people in my life telling me to ‘clean up my act,’ ” she wrote via Instagram at the time.
    “Hell ya, I was black out drinking most days….did I get sober for the show? Maybe, I knew we were filming soon and I was scared to have what happened the year before (I don’t remember some scenes.) Is there a doubt in anyone’s mind who knows me I’m an alcoholic? No. It’s low, but she’s pretty vile and cruel so it’s not unexpected,” she continued saying.

    AceShowbiz – Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox may have forced “Deadpool” writers to scrap their ideas for a planned threequel. The third installment of the antihero film franchise was going to be a road trip movie with Logan, if Ryan Reynolds to be trusted.
    The Merc with the Mouth depicter took to Twitter on Thursday, January 28 to share an “honest” fact about “Deadpool 3” to raise awareness about mental health discussions. “It’s critical to have open, honest and healthy discussions around mental health. By retweeting #BellLetsTalk you can make a difference,” he shared a message to his followers.
    The Canadian star then got cheeky and turned the topic to include the juicy detail of the scrapped idea, claiming, “In case that’s not enough, before Disney bought Fox, Deadpool 3 was gonna be a road trip between Deadpool and Logan. Rashomon style. For real.”

    Reynolds was referring to “Rashomon”, a 1950 Japanese psychological thriller/crime film directed by Akira Kurosawa, which in turned was based on Ryunosuke Akutagawa’s short stories “In a Grove” and “Rashomon”. The story follows various characters who give dishonest retelling of the events in which everyone shows his or her ideal self by lying.
    Reynolds previously had a full disclosure moment about “Deadpool 3” when responding to the news that the film would have R rating. He joked that he duped Disney into giving the greenlight by showing the bosses other Marvel movies. “I showed them Spiderman 1 & 2 and told them it was Deadpool 1 & 2,” he tweeted on January 11.
    Reynolds also joked about his idea for the upcoming movie’s storyline, pitching a crossover with a beloved character of Disney’s classic children’s animation, Bambi, as he posted on Instagram, “First order of business: Find the guy who killed Bambi’s mom.”
    The movie’s R-rating, meanwhile, has been confirmed by Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige in an interview with Collider. “It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now,” he said.
    In the same interview, Feige revealed that Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux were working on the script, but the movie “will not be [filming] this year.” He explained, “Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”
