'Peaky Blinders' Confirmed to Be Turned Into Movie After Series Ends

    BBC/Robert Viglasky

The creator Steven Knight has confirmed plan to make a big screen adaptation of the hit series after the show bids farewell in the upcoming sixth and final season.

    Jan 20, 2021
AceShowbiz – “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight insists he was always planning to end the hit TV series with a movie.
The writer confirmed the show’s upcoming sixth season would be its last on Monday (18Jan21), but tells Deadline there will be a film to tie up loose ends.
“I can say that my plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie,” he says. “That is what is going to happen.”
Knight reveals he has also been approached about a spin-off ballet version of the period series about gypsy gangsters in Birmingham, England – and a West End musical.

Knight, who picked up a CBE medal in Queen Elizabeth II’s New Year’s Honours list, had hoped to wrap up the show with a seventh season, but the COVID pandemic wrecked his plans.
Production on Season 6 began on Monday.
“Peaky Blinders” stars Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, the head of the family, alongside Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Finn Cole, and Aidan Gillen. “The Irishman” star Stephen Graham was also previously revealed to be joining the cast of season six.
Earlier seasons of the BBC show, which airs on Netflix for U.S. audiences, have featured stars like Tom Hardy, Adrien Brody, Sam Neill, and Sam Claflin.
Details of the upcoming season are still scarce, but the creator previously teased, “After the enforced production delay due to the COVID pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher.”

Lucille Ball's Daughter Defends Nicole Kidman's Casting in Biopic: 'Just Trust Us'

    Facebook/WENN

Lucie Arnaz addresses controversy surrounding Nicole’s casting to play the ‘I Love Lucy’ star in the upcoming movie ‘Being the Ricardos’ which will be directed by Aaron Sorkin.

    Jan 20, 2021
AceShowbiz – Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz’s daughter Lucie Arnaz has defended the casting of Nicole Kidman in Aaron Sorkin’s movie about her parents.
It was recently reported the Australian actress is in final talks to portray the “I Love Lucy” icon in Amazon’s “Being the Ricardos”, opposite Javier Bardem as Arnaz. However, upon hearing of the reports, fans suggested that “Will & Grace” star Debra Messing would be better suited for the part – leading to the screen star launching a Twitter campaign to take on the role.
Now Lucie has weighed in on the debate in a video shared on Facebook, telling her fans, “There seems to be a lot of discussion about ‘Nicole Kidman, it should be Debra Messing, it should be Carole Cook,’ I don’t know. Here’s the deal, what you should understand: We are not doing a remake of ‘I Love Lucy.’ No one has to impersonate Lucy Ricardo nor do the Vitameatavegamin routine or … any of the silly things.”

      See also…

“It’s the story of Lucille Ball – my actual mother – not Lucy Ricardo and her husband Desi Arnaz, my dad – not Ricky Ricardo.”
Lucie went on to add that while “there will be humour in the film,” it would largely be focused on the “love affair” between her mother and father.
She also insisted that the movie isn’t a “whole story” or “a biopic from cradle to grave,” but promised fans, “I don’t think you will be disappointed.”
“I hope I can set the record straight here and say stop arguing about ‘Who should play it? She doesn’t look like her? The nose isn’t the same, she isn’t as funny,’ ” she concluded. “Just trust us. It’s gonna be a nice film. And P.S.: The voting is over.”

Anna Paquin on 'True Blood' Remake: There's A Solid Chance I'd Say 'Yes'

    HBO

While claiming to be left in the dark about the show’s comeback, the actress famous as Sookie Stackhouse notes that ‘there’s an endless number of stories you can tell.’

    Jan 19, 2021
AceShowbiz – Anna Paquin is intrigued by the possibility of reprising her “True Blood” role for the new reboot, even though she knew nothing about the revamp plans.
The actress portrayed waitress Sookie Stackhouse opposite her now-husband Stephen Moyer as Bill Compton in the vampire drama, but when it was announced in December that a “True Blood” remake was in the works with creator and original showrunner Alan Ball, the stars were caught by surprise.
“Not a single member of the (original) cast or crew knew anything about it. We literally all found out on Twitter,” Paquin told the New York Post.

Despite being left in the dark about the show’s comeback, Paquin believes the new incarnation will be just as successful as their show, which ran for seven seasons until 2014.
“I don’t know what the concept is, but it’s a rich world,” she mused. “The reason I feel like reboots and reimaginings do so well is that there’s an endless number of stories you can tell. We told seven years’ worth, but there’s no limit in genre stuff.”
And Paquin would be open to returning to the vampire world, because she considers the “True Blood” gang her “family”, “It depends on in what regard,” she said of reprising her character Stackhouse. “I think Alan Ball is part of it and I owe him a lot of my career. So if he asked me, there’s a solid chance I’d say ‘yes’.”
“But I had (sic) absolutely no idea what that would even look like or if they’d want us old folks. These were some of the best years of most of our lives for the cast and crew. That was our family.”

Chris Nolan and Steve McQueen Sign Letter Asking Government for More Cinema Funding

    WENN

A number of big names ranging from directors, producers, and actors have signed a petition appealing for more funding for cinemas from the British government amid Covid-19 pandemic.

    Jan 19, 2021
AceShowbiz – Christopher Nolan and Steve McQueen are among the big names to have signed a letter to U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak, appealing for more funding for cinemas amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The letter – a follow-up to the U.K. Cinema Association’s Keep the Magic Alive campaign in December (20) – states that while the British government has tried to help the struggling sector, it’s not enough to keep them afloat.
“There is no doubt that if supported to survive, the sector will recover and once again thrive. But the need for direct financial support is pressing,” the letter, also signed by filmmakers Guy Ritchie, Sam Mendes, Ridley Scott, Danny Boyle, and Asif Kapadia, producers Barbara Broccoli and David Heyman, and actors Noel Clarke and Jude Law, reads. “We recognise the support that government has already been able to provide. But we fear that this will not be enough, with the challenges being most acute for those larger cinema operators who have not been able to access any tailored funding.”

      See also…

“These companies represent over 80 per cent of the market, in many ways constituting its ‘critical mass’ and helping to drive the success of associated sectors such as film distribution and production coalesce. Without them, the future of the entire U.K. film industry would look extremely precarious.”
Due to Covid-19 lockdowns in the U.K., the majority of cinemas closed towards the end of 2020, and have yet to re-open. And while some of the smaller cinema operators have received funding through the British Film Institute, it’s thought that the larger companies – such as Cineworld and Odeon – haven’t been given any government support, other than generic business support such as the furlough scheme.
“U.K. cinema stands on the edge of an abyss. We urgently need targeted funding support to ensure that future generations can enjoy the magic of cinema,” the letter concludes.
In total, more than 40 figures from the U.K. film industry have signed the letter, which was printed in The Sunday Times newspaper.

'Bachelor' Recap: A Woman Leaves After Interrupting Matt James' Group Date

    ABC

The new outing of the ABC dating show picks up where things it leaves off in the last episode, in which Sarah fainted at the rose ceremony, much to everyone’s surprise.

    Jan 19, 2021
AceShowbiz – “The Bachelor” returned with a new episode on Monday, January 18. The new outing of the ABC dating show picked up where things it left off in the last episode, in which Sarah fainted at the rose ceremony, much to everyone’s surprise.
“She was exhausted… but I’m just glad I was able to steal a few moments away with her,” Matt James said in confessional. “Knowing she’s healthy is what’s most important.” Meanwhile, Victoria assumed that Sarah “fainted for attention.”
As Sarah got better, Matt resumed the rose ceremony. Eventually, Matt gave the final rose to Victoria instead of Marylynn. “I’m floored. How can he give her a rose? She’s just, the worst!” Marylynn said, admitting that Victoria’s a “good actor.”
It was time for a group date for Rachael, Bri, Lauren, Kit, Serena C., Victoria, Khaylah, Anna, Kaili and Katie. They then walked into a room to find Ashley Iaconetti reading an intimate passage from Chris Harrison’s “The Love Letter”, and the women were asked to write their own erotic love story with Matt. Katie’s and Victoria’s were so erotic that more bleeps were heard when they read their story.
Meanwhile, Sarah opted out the date card reading as she was emotionally exhausted. She used to deal with faithfulness, commitment issues and jealousy, adding that she “felt dirty watching that.”
Later, Matt and Rachael had a moment together. “I haven’t felt this way in a long time, but also it’s scary because I haven’t felt this way this quickly ever,” she told Matt before they kissed. Rachael was positive that Matt “potentially feels the exact same way that I’m feeling about him.”

Meanwhile, Sarah was devastated. “It kills me to think he’s having these special moments with other women too,” she said. That prompted her to interrupt the group date which she wasn’t invited to and cut short Matt and Katie’s moment. Victoria encouraged Katie to get her time back and she did, leading to an argument between Sarah and Katie.
Matt eventually walked Sarah out but then she went to visit the other women to apologize. However, they didn’t seem to accept her apology easily. Feeling targetted, Sarah was crying outside. Victoria approached her and tried to sound nice to her before Katie appeared.
The next one-on-one date was between Matt and Serena P. But before their date, Matt noticed that Sarah wasn’t there with the other women, prompting him to go to her room. She told him that she had packed her bag, but Matt tried to convince her to stay. “That would be a tragedy!” Matt said. “You’re on my mind, and I haven’t forgotten about the time we spent together.”
“I will continue to remind you how much I care about you,” he continued. “Obviously the girls aren’t going to be happy, but at the end of the day, it’s me and your connection… I will come here every day. I am dead serious.”
During his date with Serena, the pair used the time to get to know each other and they also had a steamy makeout session in the hot tub. Meanwhile, the ladies at the house discussed how Sarah put distance from the others and MJ decided to confront her for it. Sarah told them that she was planning to leave because she felt overwhelmed by everything but Serena C thought that her move was “calculated, manipulated, toxic.” Sarah eventually left the next day.
However, it turned out that she came to Matt’s room and told him how she felt “attacked” and that she wasn’t welcomed by the other women. “I went downstairs to like, apologize to the women for being in my room all day, and was like, completely attacked. Some of the women in there are just cruel and malicious, and it’s like, really hard for me,” she said. However, she didn’t change her mind and broke down in tears in the car as she left the show, saying that it was “the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”

Doug Liman: Filming Low-Budgeted 'Locked Down' Boosts His Confidence in Shooting Outer Space Movie

    WENN

The ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ director claims he has become ‘more confident’ about making a movie in outer space with Tom Cruise after completing his latest movie on a tight budget and schedule.

    Jan 19, 2021
AceShowbiz – Doug Liman has “more confidence” about making a movie in space since shooting “Locked Down” in deserted London.
The filmmaker is pleased that PH van Sandwijk’s idea for a low-budget, hastily-assembled pandemic heist thriller paid off and he’s now got more faith that the producer’s other “crazy” idea – which also involves Tom Cruise, Elon Musk’s SpaceX and NASA – will work out too.
He said, “It connects to Locked Down because the same producer who a year ago came to me and said how would you like to try to shoot a movie in outer space? That’s PJ van Sandwijk… and when, a year ago, he proposed something insane like the space movie, I initially humoured PJ. I was like, well, I’ll take a few meetings on shooting a movie in outer space, because I kind of am curious. You know we’re obviously not going to be able to do this, but I’m curious, why not?”
“It was similar to my humouring PJ this summer on the pandemic movie. Sure, we’ll explore that. But here’s the thing. When a producer proposes something crazy to you, like, let’s try to shoot a movie in outer space, and NASA and SpaceX sign on, and Tom Cruise signs on…you’re just a little bit more receptive when that same producer says I got another crazy idea, and that became Locked Down.”

      See also…

Admitting things came “full circle,” Liman told Deadline, “If you attempt to do something outrageous and cinematic, and you pull it off, that just gives you a little bit more confidence for the next time.”
Doug flew his own plane from the U.S. to the U.K. to shoot “Locked Down” and said he felt that would be a “good first step” towards facing his fears around the space project.
“And obviously, the next time is going to be about going to outer space,” he continued. “I also think, when I thought about the flight across the Atlantic, which really did scare me, and one of the reasons why I didn’t shy away from it, at the end of the day, is I had been to the SpaceX launch in the beginning of the summer. It scared me, imagining myself in that rocket, venturing out into unknown places.”
“I thought the flight would be a good first step towards getting the courage to strap myself in that rocket with Tom Cruise.”

Jude Law's Son Almost Gave Up His Acting Dream Due to the Shadow of His Parents' Fame

    Instagram

Rafferty Law, Jude’s son with actress Sadie Frost, is hesitant to pursue a career in the entertainment industry for fear of living under the shadow of his famous parents.

    Jan 19, 2021
AceShowbiz – Jude Law and Sadie Frost’s son Rafferty came close to turning his back on his acting dreams over the pressure to live up to his father’s career success.
The 24 year old began having second thoughts about his chosen profession as a teen because he knew he’d inevitably be compared to his Oscar-nominated dad.
“At school, I always loved being in plays from a young age, but when I was about 15 I started hesitating,” Rafferty Law shared. “I felt if the comparison and the pressure were going to be there, maybe music was more for me.”
“But then I also felt like I owed it to myself to see if I could work hard and do it, and I’m really happy that I did.”

      See also…

And Rafferty, who also enjoyed a brief stint as a model, knew he could turn to Jude for advice when he landed his first major leading role in upcoming Oliver Twist tale, “Twist”.
“Growing up we always went on adventures together. I was obsessed with The Lord of the Rings and would make him take me to Primrose Hill (in London), where we’d run around and create our own fairytale world, dressing up and making up plays,” Rafferty recalled.
“With Twist he gave me a bit of advice before filming: stay calm, stay confident, make sure you get to know everyone, go and introduce yourself, learn everyone’s names and make the set a fun environment.”
Although “The Talented Mr. Ripley” star is the more famous parent, Rafferty’s mum Sadie also started out as an actress, most notably appearing in Francis Ford Coppola’s “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” in 1992, and starring opposite her future husband Jude in Paul W. S. Anderson’s directorial debut “Shopping” in 1994. She took a step back from acting in the late 1990s to focus on raising the couple’s three children, as well as her oldest son Finlay, from her first marriage to Spandau Ballet’s Gary Kemp.

'Queer Eye' Star Karamo Brown Added to 'Dear White People' Season 4

    WENN

The Netflix reality TV star joins the upcoming final season of the series, several months after recurring member Jeremy Tardy quit due to alleged pay disparity between black and white cast.

    Jan 19, 2021
AceShowbiz – “Queer Eye” star Karamo Brown has joined the cast of TV show “Dear White People” for the upcoming fourth season.
The culture expert’s character in the programme – which follows several black college students at a predominantly white Ivy League institution – has yet to be revealed.
But Karamo celebrated the news of his new gig in a post on Instagram, alongside which he wrote, “So excited to be part of the @dearwhitepeople cast for the upcoming season!”
While Brown is most well known for being on “Queer Eye”, he is also a successful actor – having starred in TV shows such as “Steam Room Stories” and “Heads Will Roll”. He began his career back in 2004, when he made history by becoming the first openly gay black man cast on a reality show when he appeared on MTV’s “The Real World: Philadelphia”.

The comedy drama series based on an acclaimed indie movie of the same title is going to bid farewell with the upcoming season.
“I’m so grateful my little indie-that-could has made it to four seasons at Netflix,” creator Justin Simien said in a statement. “This show, along with the many talented storytellers it has brought into my orbit, has changed my life and I can’t wait to create a celebratory final volume befitting such a transformative experience.”
Karamo Brown’s casting came several months after Jeremy Tardy announced his departure from the show. He accused Lionsgate bosses of racial discrimination due to pay disparity between black and white cast members ahead of the final season.
“After being offered to return for several episodes my team was notified that our counter offer would not be considered and that the initial offer was the ‘best and final,’ ” he revealed. “This news was disturbing because one of my white colleagues – being a true ally – revealed that they too had received the same initial offer and had successfully negotiated a counter offer.”
Lionsgate, however, denied the allegations, “This was a purely financial negotiation regarding deal terms. Lionsgate is committed to equal treatment for all talent regardless of race, gender, age or sexual orientation.”
