    Dan Levy Thought He Got 'Punk'd' When He's Announced Big Winner at 2020 Emmys

    The Canadian actor recalls his reaction to his record-breaking victories at the first-ever virtual Primetime Emmy Awards earlier this year for his role on ‘Schitt’s Creek’.

    AceShowbiz – “Schitt’s Creek” co-creator and star Dan Levy was convinced the show’s Emmy Awards success was all part of an elaborate prank because the whole virtual ceremony felt so “surreal.”
    The sixth and final season of the comedy scooped nine top accolades at the 2020 event, with the star making history as the first person to win for comedy writing, directing, acting, and producing in the same year.
    However, Levy insists to everyone involved in the programme, the prizes were “like a dream” as they all watched the ceremony unfold in an outdoor tent in Toronto, Canada, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

    He told The Guardian newspaper, “The whole situation was surreal. For the Emmys, we were in a tent in Toronto. It really did feel like this kind of surreal dream. You’re watching a screen in a tent and suddenly you’re winning, and then you’re talking to a camera in a tent.”
    “You don’t see an audience, there’s absolutely no sense of it being an award ceremony. At the end I was talking to (co-star) Catherine O’Hara, and she was like, ‘I just feel like someone’s going to pop out of the bushes and say this is an episode of Punk’d.’ It really felt like one of those setups, like, ‘Let’s put them all in a tent and fake a bunch of Emmys.’ ”
    Besides breaking record for taking multiple coveted awards at the Primetime Emmys, Dan Levy also won Best Comedic Performance at the MTV Movie & TV Awards for his role on the critically-lauded TV series.

    The former ‘Ugly Betty’ actress has been left ‘totally heartbroken’ as her TV show is not picked up for another season while the current sixth outing is coming to an end.

    AceShowbiz – America Ferrera was “totally heartbroken” by the news her TV show “Superstore” is to end.
    The 36-year-old actress wrapped filming on the sitcom shortly before NBC announced this month that the show’s current sixth season will be its last and though she’s upset by its ending, she’s also “incredibly proud” of the programme.
    She told People magazine, “I’m so sad the show is over, and at the same time, incredibly proud of what it’s been.”
    “I think what the show accomplished, the fan-base that it built, what it did for NBC – I only have so much pride in what we accomplished with the show, and it’s always sad to say goodbye.”
    And America insisted the end of the show doesn’t mean it will be forgotten.
    She added, “These days TV lives forever and there’s still an audience for it to reach and still people to find and discover and enjoy it, so I’m just incredibly grateful for what it has been.”

    The actress stayed coy when asked if she’ll be making a final experience.
    She teased, “We’re not ruling anything out, but I’m not allowed to say.”
    Meanwhile, the former “Ugly Betty” star is looking forward to a “super simple” Christmas with her husband Ryan Williams and their children Sebastian, two, and Lucia, seven months.
    She said, “This is (Lucia’s) first Christmas, which she’ll never remember, but it’s my two year old’s first Christmas really getting excited and having an understanding about the holidays and celebrating.”
    “Luckily, he doesn’t know what he’s missing from any other year, but we’re going do our best to just celebrate and make it feel special even though we can’t be with all of our family and friends.”

    AceShowbiz – “Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot has fired back at crazy criticism suggesting she’s the wrong nationality to portray Cleopatra in a new movie about the ancient queen.
    The Israeli star will be reteaming with “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins for the project, and some over-sensitive film fans have called for recasting.
    “First of all, if you want to be true to the facts then Cleopatra was Macedonian,” Gal rages in her response. “We were looking for a Macedonian actress that could fit Cleopatra. She wasn’t there, and I was very passionate about Cleopatra.”
    “I have friends from across the globe, whether they’re Muslims or Christian or Catholic or atheist or Buddhist, or Jewish of course. People are people, and with me, I want to celebrate the legacy of Cleopatra and honour this amazing historic icon that I admire so much.”

    Gal adds, “You know, anybody can make this movie and anybody can go ahead and do it. I’m very passionate that I’m going to do my own too.”
    The backlash surrounding Gal’s Cleopatra casting comes as she prepares to launch the “Wonder Woman” sequel on Christmas Day (25Dec20).
    Before bringing Cleopatra to life on the big screen, Gal Gadot is next to appear in Kenneth Branagh’s “Death on the Nile”, a sequel to his 2017 film “Murder on the Orient Express”. She shares screen with the likes of Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Letitia Wright, Annette Bening, and Russell Brand.
    She is also tapped for action comedy thriller “Red Notice” with Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds.

    AceShowbiz – Luke Wilson hasn’t been approached to join the cast of “Legally Blonde 3” yet.
    The actor – whose character Emmett Richmond married Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) in 2003’s “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde” – admitted he would love to be part of the third film to complete the trilogy, but he doesn’t know what the situation is.
    “Of course (I’d do it). As for the Legally Blonde that we’re hearing about now – I don’t know anything than the usual man on the street,” he told Us Weekly.
    “And that’s really the truth. I’ve heard they’re writing it and trying to put it together, but they’re keeping it pretty firmly under wraps.”

    Wilson – who also starred in the original movie in 2001 – “loved working with” Witherspoon, and he heaped praise on the film’s lasting legacy.
    “I loved working with Reese, and definitely, that’s one of those movies where I never had that happen before to such a degree where when it came out, I’d go back to Texas and there would be little squadrons of girls who would come up at that age, like, 8 to 12 and 14, and they would have all these questions about Elle,” he added.
    “They’d ask where she was and what she was doing and was she as great as she seemed. It’s just a good feeling. It’s one thing to make a movie people like, it’s another thing to make a movie that does well, but to have one that gets legs because of how people feel about it, that is a great feeling. To have a movie make a jump to generations.”
    MGM Studios revealed the movie is slated for release in May 2022, with Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor writing the script.

    A new adaptation of Candace Bushnell’s book of the same name is reportedly in development without one of the original cast members as the project is heading to the HBO streaming service.

    AceShowbiz – A “Sex and the City” reboot, featuring original stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon, is reportedly in the works at HBO Max.
    The New York Post’s gossip column Page Six cited a “well placed industry insider” as telling them that a “limited series reboot” is coming to the streaming service.
    While Sarah, Kristin, and Cynthia are all said to be returning, Kim Cattrall – who has repeatedly said she’s got no interest in reprising her role as Samantha Jones for a reboot – will apparently not. Cattrall and Parker were also involved in a public feud following the death of the former’s brother in 2018.

    Despite Kim’s disinterest in a reboot, Sarah – who also acted as a producer on the series – told Entertainment Tonight previously that she’d be up for returning as alter ego Carrie Bradshaw.
    “I wouldn’t call it a reboot, I would call it a ‘revisit,’ ” she said. “I’d like to see where all of them are. I’m curious, the world has changed even since the movie… technology and social media. (Plus) sexual politics and the #MeToo movement and Time’s Up… I think Carrie Bradshaw would just be so greedy to share her feelings and thoughts.”
    Representatives for Parker and HBO Max have yet to comment on the reboot report.
    The original “Sex and the City” series first launched in 1998 and concluded in 2004 after six seasons. It got a movie version in 2008 and a sequel in 2013. In the same year, a prequel series “The Carrie Diaries” starring AnnaSophia Robb as a young Bradshaw came out. It ended after only two seasons.

    AceShowbiz – Kate Winslet became a fossil expert while shooting her new movie “Ammonite”.
    The Oscar winner stars as acclaimed 19th century paleontologist Mary Anning in the new movie and director Francis Lee insisted his leading lady knew what she was talking about on camera, so he set up lessons with an expert.
    And Kate suddenly found herself fascinated by fossils.
    “I often get to learn a new skill or a new craft when playing a character, but I never imagined that I would be taught how to fossil hunt,” she explains. “Now I could take you to Lyme Regis (in England) and I would know what I was talking about. That was really important to me, because we didn’t want to use hand doubles – we wanted it to be as authentic as possible.”

    “Also, this is something Mary was doing as a child, so it just had to be in my bones. Paddy Howe was our fossil expert down in Lyme Regis, and he was just terrific at sharing his knowledge – he made it really user-friendly. There was nothing daunting about the words that he would use or the techniques he would describe.”
    “We’d spend days whacking rocks together on a beach, because sometimes ammonites can be lurking inside them. The people at the museum in Lyme were also incredibly helpful – that’s where Mary’s writings are; accounts of how she was thinking and feeling, and they were very generous in letting us access those.”
    The combination of shooting the film with Lee and her co-star, Saoirse Ronan, in Lyme Regis and studying up on Anning left Kate buzzing when the movie wrapped.
    “Walking away from playing her, I was the most inspired I have ever been by any character I’ve played,” she smiles.

    AceShowbiz – Lifetime has released the first trailer for its upcoming documentary about Whitney Houston and her daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown. Titled “Whitney Houston & Bobbi Kristina: Didn’t We Almost Have It All”, the new project features an in-depth look at the lives of the late mother-daughter pair.
    Opening the trailer is Perro “Pebbles” Reid, Whitney’s friend/singer/producer. “Whitney was an icon. This is the first time I’ve ever spoken about Whitney,” she says. “We built the perception of Whitney is this pop princess,” producer/musician Randy Jackson adds in confessional. Meanwhile, someone else notes that the “I Will Always Love You” hitmaker “loved her daughter more than anything.”
    “There’s so many parallels between Whitney and Bobbi Kristina,” one person remarks in the trailer, adding, “They both had addiction. They both perished in a bathtub.” Bobbi’s best friend Sarah “Bess” Beckmann concludes the clip, “The fact that she was found in a bathtub with the same fate as her mother doesn’t make any sense.”

    Whitney died in 2012 at 48 years old. She was found unresponsive in a bathtub in a Beverly Hills Hilton hotel room just before the Grammy Awards in 2012. According to the coroner, she died by accidental drowning, but heart disease and cocaine use were among the contributing factors.
    Similar to her mother, Bobbi was found faced down in a bathtub in 2015. The 22-year-old daughter of Whitney and Bobby Brown was in coma for six months before she was pronounced death on July 26, 2015. Her death was ruled to be from lobar pneumonia and lack of oxygen, resulting in brain damage.
    “Whitney Houston & Bobbi Kristina: Didn’t We Almost Have It All” is set to premiere on Lifetime on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 8:00 P.M. EST.

    AceShowbiz – A group of “Mission: Impossible” crew members have defended Tom Cruise’s leaked outburst about ignored COVID protocols on set, insisting he has every right to get upset.
    The movie star was caught on tape raging about health and safety breaches and his comments were posted online by The Sun editors, leading to a backlash from some and talk of crew members quitting.
    But now some of his colleagues are coming to his defence.

    A source from the U.K. production behind the seventh instalment of the film series tells People magazine, “It’s hard to [describe] how incredibly intense and focused he is on making every movie the absolute best possible. The ‘Mission: Impossible’ movies are very special to him. They are ‘his’ movies.”
    “Tom helped set up the COVID protocol. Of course, he takes it personally when the protocol is broken. In all the years of filming the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise, no one has ever even heard Tom raise his voice. He is usually just laser-focused on filming. This movie is very different though. He has to film while making sure everyone stays safe.”
    Another set source adds, “Tom’s whole life is his work. He feels the pressure of how scary things look now. He does not want any further disruption. There is a lot at stake. When he sees something less than professional, he wants to make it right.”
    In his leaked rant, Cruise threatened to fire “Mission: Impossible VII” crew members if he saw them ignoring the guidelines put in place to protect everyone on set from COVID.
