Tom Cruise Taking a Break From Filming After Angry Rant on 'Mission: Impossible 7' Set

    WENN

The main star of the ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie franchise is reportedly going to return to Miami for an early Christmas break following his tirade on the set.

    Dec 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tom Cruise is reportedly wrapping his 2020 work commitments early following his much-publicised on-set rants.
The superstar lost his cool recently when he spotted two assistants huddled around a monitor, watching playback, ignoring social distancing rules he had helped to introduce to try and keep the set of the forthcoming “Mission: Impossible 7” coronavirus-free.
He launched into a furious tirade threatening to fire anyone who didn’t take the rules seriously and, according to The Sun, the 58-year-old actor will be taking a break from filming the movie for an early Christmas holiday.
According to the publication, Friday (18Dec20) will be his final day on set for the year and, from there, he plans to take his private jet to Miami, Florida where he’ll spend some time with his son Connor.
“It has been exhausting keeping the production on track for so long, and it’s not getting any easier – Christmas can’t come soon enough,” an insider told the outlet.

“Tom has decided he’s ready for a break and is now going to wind up filming for 2020 on Friday, and fly to Miami over the weekend on his private jet to spend Christmas with his son.”
The source added, “It’s the end of a really tough year, and a bit of time out seems like a good idea for everyone as tensions have been mounting for a while.”
During his first rant, Cruise hinted at his exhaustion, claiming he was in constant contact with studios, insurance companies and producers as the production was seen as the “gold standard” for filming amid the pandemic.
However, according to officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the mask he’s been snapped wearing on set, featuring a carbon filter and breathing valves, may be ineffective in preventing the spread of coronavirus.
“This type of mask may not prevent you from spreading COVID-19 to others,” they state, reported TMZ. “The hole in the material may allow your respiratory droplets to escape and reach others.”

Mads Mikkelsen Has This One Wish After Taking Over Johnny Depp's Role in 'Fantastic Beasts 3'

    WENN/Warner Bros./FayesVision

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor has been asked to step down as supervillain Gellert Grindelwald after he lost a libel trial against The Sun’s publishers over a story that labeled him as ‘wife beater’.

    Dec 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Mads Mikkelsen wishes he had Johnny Depp on speed dial, because it would make his research about “Fantastic Beasts” supervillain Gellert Grindelwald much easier.
The Danish star has taken over from Depp in the film franchise after the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star was asked to step down after losing a libel trial against The Sun’s publishers over a story, in which he was described as a “wife beater”, and now Mads is playing catch-up on the role.
“I’ve met him (Depp) once,” Mikkelsen tells AP Entertainment. “I wish I had his phone number, but unfortunately that’s not the case.”
“There’s nothing else I can do, to be honest. The only approach I can have is connect the bridge between what he did and what I’m gonna do and then we’ll see what lands. There has to be a bridge between what Johnny did and what I’m going to do. And at the same time, I also have to make it my own.”

Regarding Depp’s exit from the third film in the “Fantastic Beasts” series, Mikkelsen says, “It’s also a shocker that it came after what happened, which is just super sad… These are sad circumstances.”
Depp himself has addressed his exit from the “Fantastic Beasts” series through a letter he posted on Instagram. “In light of recent events, I would like to make the following short statement. Firstly, I’d like to thank everybody who has gifted me with their support and loyalty,” he said in his November 6 statement.
“I have been humbled and moved by your many messages of love and concern, particularly over the last few days,” the ex-husband of Amber Heard continued. “I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request.”

The “Fantastic Beasts 3” is scheduled for release in July 2022.

'The Stand' Met With Boycott Threat From Deaf Community Over Casting of Hearing Actor

    CBS

Stressing that the casting of Henry Zaga as deaf-mute Nick Andros on the series ‘not acceptable,’ members of Hollywood’s Deaf community declares, ‘enough is enough!’

    Dec 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – “The Stand” is facing a stumbling block from the get-go. On the same day CBS All Access premiered its first episode, the miniseries based on Stephen King’s 1978 novel received a boycott threat from members of Hollywood’s Deaf community over its casting of hearing actor Henry Zaga as deaf-mute Nick Andros.
On Thursday, December 17, #DeafTalent owner Jade Bryan tweeted a protest letter that deemed Zaga casting unacceptable. “As a Black Deaf filmmaker/TV Creator, advocate of diversity & inclusion, acting instructor, & creator/owner of #Deaftalent campaign, I believe in change. It shouldn’t be that difficult to cast the right person for the role,” he wrote alongside the letter.

Jade Bryan shared letter from Deaf community that boycotted ‘The Stand’.
Having collected more than 70 signatures, the letter itself began with a call for an end to “this cycle of misrepresentation and unequal or non-existent employment opportunities for Deaf professionals in the entertainment industry, both in front of and behind the camera.” It stated, “This has been happening for decades; enough is enough!”
Declaring the Deaf community’s stance against the series, it explained, “The character, Nick Andros is Deaf and signs. Not one Deaf professional actor was called in to audition for the role. The decision was made without respect to and for Deaf professionals, union and non-union alike. There was no acknowledgement given to the psyche of a Deaf character; being Deaf is more than just not hearing.”

      See also…

“We will not endorse, watch, or support your miniseries on CBS All Access,” the statement continued to read. “We will share our displeasure of the casting decision and airing of the miniseries on CBS All Access with out Deaf community, signing community, friends, and family of Deaf individuals; together we make up 466 million worldwide.”
A call for inclusion was stressed at the end of the letter. “It is time for industry professionals to create opportunity for Deaf talent to work on the set, in front of, and behind the camera, in the writing rooms, sit on creative teams when there is a Deaf character involved in the storyline,” it read. “Our voice is a sign of the times.”
Among those adding their signatures to the letter were “The New Normal” actress Antoinette Abbamonte, “Reverse Polarity” director Jules Dameron, “Chicago Med” actor James Caverly, “Grace and Frankie” actor Dickie Hearts and “Alice in Wonderland” theater actor Andrew Morrill.
This was not the first time “The Stand” faced criticism for the casting of Zaga. Back in August 2019, deaf actor and advocate Nyle DiMarco voiced his displeasure over it. “Nick Andros is DEAF in #TheStand and is being played by a hearing actor @henryzaga. Hollywood takes pride in diversity to ensure representation & authenticity.., BUT CONTINUES TO EXCLUDE people with disabilities,” he wrote at the time.

Nyle DiMarco criticized Henry Zaga’s ‘The Stand’ casting back in 2019.
New episodes of “The Stand” will come out each Thursday on CBS All Access. It features a star-studded cast ensemble that include James Marsden, Greg Kinnear, Amber Heard, Whoopi Goldberg and Alexander Skarsgard.

'Little House on the Prairie' to Get Reboot Treatment as One-Hour Series

    NBC

The beloved 1970s series was based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s book series, and had Melissa Gilbert, Michael Landon, Karen Grassle and Melissa Sue Anderson as its original stars.

    Dec 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Beloved 1970s series “Little House on the Prairie” will be dusted off and updated for a brand new run on TV.
The show, revolving around a poor farming family living in the wilds of Minnesota in the late 1800s, starred Melissa Gilbert, Michael Landon, Karen Grassle and Melissa Sue Anderson, and ran for nine seasons from September 1974 to May 1982 on NBC.
It was based on the book series of the same name by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The late author’s character also served as the program’s narrator and was played by Gilbert, who went on to serve as the president of the Screen Actors Guild. NBC executive Ed Friendly bought the novels’ film and television rights from Roger Lea MacBride, and asked Landon to direct the pilot.

Now bosses at Anonymous Content, Paramount Television Studios, and Friendly Family Productions are working on reviving “Little House on the Prairie” as a one-hour drama series, according to Deadline. While Ed produced the earlier series, his son Trip Friendly will executive produce this reboot project along with Joy Gorman and Dana Fox.
On the series’ revival plan, Trip has previously told EW, “It was something that I talked with my father about before he passed in 2007. I really felt it would be exciting to reboot the material.” He added, “Fans are eager to see ‘Little House on the Prairie’ come back to the screen, and we agree the time is right. We feel optimistic that this will happen.”
Aside from Trip, one former cast member was also looking forward to seeing a reboot being made. Alison Arngrim, who starred as Nellie Oleson on the original series, has shared her willingness to make a cameo on the remake. “I’m just the right age to play Mrs. Oleson,” she told EW. “I’m totally there. I have no shame.”
It’s not the show’s first reboot. “Little House: A New Beginning” was aired from 1982 after Landon and Grassle had moved on. This new reboot report came shortly after Peacock announced the streaming of all nine seasons of the original series on the service this December.

    [embedded content]

The ‘Trolls World Tour’ star plays an ex-convict who adjusts to life outside prison when he unexpectedly forms a bond with a young boy, who suffers bullying from his peers.

    Dec 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Justin Timberlake returns to acting in the first trailer for upcoming film “Palmer”. Released on Thursday, December 17, the promo video gives an emotional look at the touching story of an unlikely relationship between an ex-convict and an LGBTQ kid.
The “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” singer portrays Eddie Palmer, a former high school football star whose professional career was shattered after he was imprisoned. Returning home after serving 12 years in prison, Eddie finds himself struggling to adjust to his new life while working as a janitor.
When he’s forced to babysit Sam (Ryder Allen), a young boy abandoned by his mother, Eddie forms an unlikely bond with the gender non-conforming child. Eddie teaches Sam to defend himself from his peers, who often bully him because he’s different.
While caring for Sam, Eddie also meets and starts a relationship with Maggie Hayes (Alisha Wainwright), a teacher. As Eddie faces judgment from those around him for raising the kid, his past threatens to ruin his new life and family.

But as the official logline for the movie puts it, “Family is who you make it,” Eddie isn’t going to give up his new family that easily. “The truth is I haven’t felt like I was good at anything…until Sam,” he says in voiceover in the trailer. In another scene taking place in what looks like a courtroom, he promises, “I will not abandon that boy.”

Directed by Fisher Stevens from a screenplay by Cheryl Guerriero, “Palmer” also stars June Squibb as Vivian Palmer, Juno Temple as Sam’s mother Shelly, Jesse C. Boyd as Coles, J.D. Evermore as Principal Forbes, Lance E. Nichols as Sibs and Jay Florsheim as a football referee.

The “Game of Thrones” star has joined the cast of the indie drama, alongside “Avatar” star Sam Worthington, which is being written and directed by Gigi Gaston. Dean Scott Vazquez and Barbara Hershey are also attached.
Lena will play the title character, a burlesque dancer who, on the eve of her last dance, must go on the run to save a neighbour (Vasquez) whose life is threatened by her former long-term lover, played by Worthington. She finds her real second chance at life in the love she feels for her child.

Headey said in a statement, “Gigi is someone you can’t say no to, you just get caught up with her passion and heart. Going back to my roots of indie filmmaking has been a joy. Moving fast and making what time you have count, is what I love.”

Sia Ditches Shia LaBeouf From Her Movie, Replaces Him With Kate Hudson

    WENN

The ‘Chandelier’ hitmaker has kicked the ‘Transformers’ alum out of her movie project and enlisted Hudson to fill in the vacant spot left the embattled actor.

    Dec 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Pop star Sia reworked her directorial debut to cast Kate Hudson in the lead role, after ditching Shia LaBeouf from the project.
The “Chandelier” hitmaker reveals she initially tapped the “Transformers” star to lead the cast of “Music”, but ended up making the film with Hudson, instead.
“I was going to do a narrative film, and in fact, Shia LaBeouf was cast to play Kate’s character,” Sia told Australia’s Studio 10, according to the Daily Mail. “I asked for a meeting with her, and she said she was born to do it. She could sing, she could dance, she could do it all.”
Music features Sia’s frequent collaborator Maddie Ziegler as an autistic girl who is forced to move in with her drug-dealing half-sister, played by Hudson.
Sia didn’t expand on why LaBeouf was dumped from the movie, but her comments emerge days after she weighed in on the actor’s legal troubles, following a lawsuit from his ex-girlfriend, singer FKA twigs, for the “relentless abuse” she allegedly suffered during their 2018-2019 romance.

      See also…

Sharing a link to The New York Times report about the suit, Sia tweeted, “I too have been hurt emotionally by Shia, a pathological liar, who conned me into an adulterous relationship claiming to be single.”
“I believe he’s very sick and have compassion for him AND his victims. Just know, if you love yourself – stay safe, stay away.”
Sia, who previously recruited LaBeouf for her 2015 video “Elastic Heart”, added, “Also I love you @fkatwigs. This is very courageous and I’m very proud of you.”
LaBeouf has admitted to hurting people he loved in the past, but claims many of the accusations made by Twigs are untrue.
He has yet to respond to Sia’s allegations.
