Crewmembers Quit 'Mission: Impossible 7' After Tom Cruise Lashes Out for Second Time

    Paramount Pictures

Several people working on the set of the upcoming seventh installment of ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie have reportedly given up their job after the main actor ranted again.

    Dec 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Five crewmembers from Tom Cruise’s new “Mission: Impossible” blockbuster have reportedly quit following a second on-set outburst from the action man about COVID-19 safety violations.
The superstar lost his cool recently when he spotted two assistants huddled around a monitor, watching playback, ignoring social distancing rules he had helped to introduce to try and keep the set coronavirus-free.
He launched into a furious rant threatening to fire anyone who didn’t take the rules seriously.
“We are creating thousands of jobs, you motherf**kers,” he raged at the Warner Bros. Studios in Hertfordshire, England. “I don’t ever want to see it again, ever! And if you don’t do it you’re fired, if I see you do it again you’re f**king gone.”
The audio was leaked by The Sun on Tuesday (15Dec20), and shortly after the news hit headlines, he allegedly unleashed another tirade at cast and crewmembers – prompting a handful of staffers to resign.

“The first outburst was big but things haven’t calmed since,” a source told The Sun. “Tension has been building for months and this was the final straw. Since it became public, there has been more anger and several staff have walked.”
“But Tom just can’t take any more after all the lengths they have gone to just to keep filming at all. He’s upset others aren’t taking it as seriously as him. In the end, he’s the one who carries the can.”
Representatives for Cruise and Paramount Pictures studio officials have yet to comment on the news.
“Mission: Impossible 7”, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, is due for release in November, 2021.
Production was halted in March (20) due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but shoots have since taken place across Europe over the last few months. Filming has been halted a couple of times due to coronavirus-related issues.

Netflix Reacts to Dionne Warwick's Demand to Cast Teyana Taylor as Her in a Movie

    WENN/FayesVision

The streaming giant quickly responds after the ‘I’ll Never Love This Way Again’ hitmaker expresses her desire to have the ‘Woke Up Love’ singer playing her in a future film.

    Dec 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Dionne Warwick’s may help her and Teyana Taylor score a deal with Netflix with one of her latest tweets. The singing legend, who has been catching attention with some of her playful shout-outs to fellow artists, has made it clear whom she’d like to play her should her life story be turned into a movie.
Having apparently made up her mind about the actress of her choice, the 80-year-old came on Twitter on Wednesday, December 16 to reveal her pick, which went to singer and dancer Teyana Taylor. And she didn’t forget to mention Netflix in the tweet, in case the streaming giant is interested in making the project come true.
“This is a case for @netflix. Please don’t ask who I would cast to play me as it would obviously be @TEYANATAYLOR,” she wrote. Teyana has since responded to Dionne’s tweet. Seemingly all in with the hypothetical project, she replied with a handful of raising hands emojis.

Teyana Taylor reacted to Dionne Warwick’s tweet.

Dionne’s tweet also didn’t go unnoticed by Netflix, which responded by writing, “taking notes.” The “Then Came You” songstress didn’t let the moment pass, hinting that she would follow it up with a serious business talk with the company as she wrote back, “I’ll call ya!”

Netflix took note of Dionne’s wish.
Dionne has been amusing her followers with her tweets that showed her interests in much younger stars. After giving a shout-out to Taylor Swift and trolling Chance The Rapper as well as The Weeknd, she recently sang praise for Billie Eilish, though she mentioned her as William Eyelash instead.
“I took the time to check out William Eyelash. Very spooky. Great vocals. @billieeilish,” so Dionne wrote on Monday. After realizing her mistake, she clarified, “I thought her name was William Eyelash from the @nbcsnl performance. I do know her name is Billie now.”
Dionne also recently updated her page to reveal “some other artist careers I really enjoy following.” They are H.E.R., Jazmine Sullivan, Jhene Aiko, Leon Bridges, Alicia Keys, BTS (Bangtan Boys), Amber Riley and Halsey.

Ali Larter 'Heartbroken' by 'Heroes' Co-Star Leonard Roberts' Racism Accusations

    NBC

In a statement released after her former on-screen husband blamed her for his exit from the NBC series, the actress apologizes ‘for any role I may have played in his painful experience’ during his time on the show.

    Dec 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ali Larter has spoken up after Leonard Roberts claimed she was responsible for his exit from “Heroes”. In an essay published by Variety on Wednesday, December 16, the actor claimed that he was written off the show as a result of a tension with the actress, whom he often shared screen with as his onscreen wife.
Responding to Roberts’ claims, Larter released a statement later on Wednesday to extend her apology. “I am deeply saddened to hear about Leonard Roberts’ experience on Heroes and I am heartbroken reading his perception of our relationship, which absolutely doesn’t match my memory nor experience on the show,” she said in the statement.
While she denied his allegations, she added, “I respect Leonard as an artist and I applaud him or anyone using their voice and platform. I am truly sorry for any role I may have played in his painful experience during that time and I wish him and his family the very best.”
Roberts previously wrote in the essay that he was told not to “think of [his firing] as a situation where the Black man loses and the white woman wins.” He, however, could not help thinking that race played a part in his firing after Larter often complained about her scenes with him.

      See also…

He recalled one instance when Larter refused to expose her shoulders, at the request of the episode’s director, in a bedroom scene with him. Larter then requested a meeting with the show’s creators on set and had “an intense and loud conversation in which she expressed she had never been so disrespected – as an actress, a woman or a human being,” he said.
Roberts asked another star, Adrian Pasdar, if Larter had reacted similarly during their intimate scene to which he recalled her “openness to collaboration.” The D. L. Hawkins depicter concluded, “I couldn’t help wondering whether race was a factor.”
Roberts noticed that his presence on the show subsequently got smaller and smaller, and other non-white characters were killed off midway through the first season. He also recounted the moment Larter appeared to be blame him for low sales of magazine which cover featured the two of them. ” ‘I’m hearing our cover is selling the least of all of them,’ she told me. It was the first and only thing she said to me that night and I believed the subtext was clear: I was tarnishing her brand,” he said.
After all those treatments, Roberts got a call from series creator Tim Kring who informed him about his exit. According to him, “in a short voicemail message, he said that due to ‘the Ali Larter situation,’ when the show returned for season 2, audiences would learn that D.L. had died, and that I was free to call him if I wanted to talk.”
NBC and Kring have not responded to Roberts’ claims, but executive producer Dennis Hammer said in a statement to Variety, “14 years is a long time ago, but I remember clearly that Leonard was a great guy and a total pro.”

Emma Corrin Draw Parallels Between 'The Crown' to 'Succession' Over Fiction Disclaimer Issue

    Netflix/HBO

The actress portraying Princess Diana in season four of the hit series has joined co-star Josh O’Connor in defending Netflix’s decision not to make it clear that the show is a work of fiction.

    Dec 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Emma Corrin does not find it necessary for Netflix to label “The Crown” as a work of fiction. Although a number of prominent figures in the U.K. have called for the addition of a fiction disclaimer to the hit series, the actress playing Princess Diana in season four defended the streaming giant’s adverse decision by likening it to “Succession”.
The 25-year-old actress weighed in on the controversy when talking to Marc Malkin from her London apartment for an upcoming episode of the Variety and iHeart podcast “The Big Ticket”. During which, she stressed, “It is very clearly a dramatized version of events. This is fictitious in the same way people don’t mistake ‘Succession’ for what actually happened with the Murdochs.”
While she backed Netflix’s choice against the adding of the fiction disclaimer, the “Misbehaviour” actress did acknowledge the intention behind the request in the first place. “I also understand [the request] comes from a place of sensitivity and protectiveness of the royal family and Diana,” she pointed out.

      See also…

The call for disclaimers came in late November when British culture minister Oliver Dowden urged Netflix to make it clear that “The Crown” is a work of fiction. “It’s a beautifully produced work of fiction, so as with other TV productions, Netflix should be very clear at the beginning it is just that,” he told The Mail on Sunday. “Without this, I fear a generation of viewers who did not live through these events may mistake fiction for fact.”
Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, also offered similar thought on the TV series. “I think it would help ‘The Crown’ an enormous amount if, at the beginning of each episode, it stated that, ‘This isn’t true but it is based around some real events,’ ” he voiced his concerns to ITV. “I worry people do think that this is gospel and that’s unfair.”
Netflix, however, stood its ground. “We have always presented ‘The Crown’ as a drama — and we have every confidence our members understand it’s a work of fiction that’s broadly based on historical events,” it responded to the call through a statement. “As a result we have no plans — and see no need — to add a disclaimer.”
Also defending the streaming giant’s decision was Emma’s co-star Josh O’Connor. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times podcast “The Envelope”, the Prince Charles depicter stated, “We were slightly let down by our culture secretary, whose job it is to encourage culture. In my opinion, it’s pretty outrageous that he came out and said what he said. Particularly, in this time when he knows that the arts are struggling and they’re on their knees, I think it’s a bit of a low blow.”

'The Masked Singer' Finale Recap: Season 4 Winner Is Formidable Singer

    FOX

The December 16 episode of the FOX singing competition series also sees the judges making correct guesses of all three finalists, the Crocodile, Mushroom and Sun.

    Dec 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – “The Masked Singer” left no more mysteries unanswered in its season 4 finale. The show unmasked all three finalists, the Crocodile, Mushroom and Sun, in the Wednesday, December 16 episode, which also saw one of them being crowned the winner of the season.
First off, the three of them still had one last performance each to deliver that night. Crocodile wowed with a dramatic rendition of Journey’s “Open Arms”. He gifted his clue, an angel figurine, to Jenny McCarthy. The panelist joked it was fitting for her as it was “just as plastic.”

Mushroom livened up the stage with an energetic performance of Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish”, which he said was his daughter’s favorite song. His onstage clue was a mushroom cookie dough ice cream, which he gave to Nicole Scherzinger.

Sun came up last to belt out Brandi Carlile’s “The Story”, showcasing her powerful vocals. Her gift and clue was a mistletoe which she handed to Robin Thicke. Ken Jeong joked as Robin received the gift, which symbolizes romanticism on the holiday season, “You can kiss yourself for hours.”
    [embedded content]
Without further ado, host Nick Cannon then announced the third place winner based on the votes by the panelists, studio audience and fans at home, which went to Crocodile. Ken’s first impression guess was Bradley Cooper, but he changed his mind to Nick Lachey, which was Nicole’s first prediction. Nicole than changed her guess to Jordan Knight, which was Robin’s initial pick. Robin himself ultimately went with Backstreet Boys’ Howie Dorough, while Jenny stuck with her initial guess, Howie’s bandmate Nick Carter. Jenny got it right because Croc was revealed to be boybander Nick.
Moving on, Cannon crowned the season 4 winner. Sun won the Golden Mask Trophy, meaning Mushroon was unmasked next. Jenny, who wrote Maxwell as her first guess, changed to Ne-Yo. Ken went from Justin Timberlake to Pharrell Williams, while Nicole, who initially guessed Donald Glover, changed to Aloe Blacc. Robin agreed with Nicole and discarded his first guess, Billy Porter. Nicole and Robin’s gut was right, because Mushroom was unveiled as the “I Need a Dollar” singer.
Next, the judges made their final guesses for the person behind Sun. Jenny initially wrote down Demi Lovato as Sun, before she came up with LeAnn Rimes. Nicole agreed with Jenny, after initially thinking it was Katharine McPhee. Robin guessed Katharine after initially writing down Natasha Bedingfield, while Ken replaced his first guess Gwyneth Paltrow with Mandy Moore. Jenny and Nicole were once again right as Sun and this season’s winner was unmasked as “How Do I Live” hitmaker LeAnn.
“This has been an overwhelming experience,” the 38-year-old singer/actress said of her time on the show. “I didn’t expect this to be this much work, I have to say. I was thinking, ‘I’ll come on, this will be easy, this will be fun.’ And it was a blast!”

George Clooney Believes Tom Cruise Is 'Absolutely Right' for COVID-19 Rant on 'M:I7' Set

    WENN/Nicky Nelson/Mario Mitsis

While defending the ‘Mission: Impossible’ star’s tirade caused by violation of coronavirus guidelines, ‘The Midnight Sky’ star and director claims he would not ‘have done it quite that personally.’

    Dec 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – George Clooney has come to Tom Cruise’s defense. Shortly after the “Mission: Impossible VII” star made headlines with a leaked audio of him going on a tirade at crew members who allegedly broke COVID-19 guidelines, his fellow Hollywood heavyweight offered his opinion on the situation and stated that the actor/producer was “absolutely right.”
Speaking on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show on Wednesday, December 16, Clooney first pointed out, “He didn’t overreact because it is a problem.” He went on to share, “I have a friend who’s an AD on another TV show who just had the almost exact same thing happen with not quite as far out a response.”
Although he defended Cruise for admonishing the crew who stood too close to one another, Clooney did note during the remote interview that he might not go as far. “I wouldn’t have done it that big,” he said. “I wouldn’t have, you know, pulled people out. You’re in a position of power and it’s tricky, right? You do have a responsibility for everybody else and he’s absolutely right about that.”
The star and director of “The Midnight Sky” then explained why he believes Cruise made the right move. “And, you know, if the production goes down, a lot of people lose their jobs. People have to understand that and have to be responsible,” he pressed on. Still, he added, “It’s just not my style to, you know, to take everybody to task that way.”

      See also…

“I think it doesn’t help necessarily to point to specific people in that way and do it that…but, you know, everybody has their own style,” Clooney elaborated. “The people who were on that shoot will tell us more about it. I understand why he did it. He’s not wrong at all about that. You know, I just, I don’t know that I would have done it quite that personally, but I don’t know all the circumstances so maybe he had it 10 or 15 times before.”
The leaked audio of Cruise’s on-set rant heard him yelling, “We are creating thousands of jobs, you motherf**kers.” Venting his frustration, he warned the crew, “I don’t ever want to see it again. Ever! And if you don’t do it, you’re fired, and I see you do it again you’re f**king gone. And if anyone in this crew does it… And you, don’t you ever f**king do it again. That’s it. No apologies.”
“You can tell it to the people who are losing their f**king homes because our industry is shut down. It’s not going to put food on their table or pay for their college education,” he explained why he’s so strict with the rules. “That’s what I sleep with every night – the future of this f**king industry!”
The seventh installment of “Mission: Impossible” is slated to be released on November 19, 2021. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, its production has been met with delays due to the COVID-19 pandemics. Back in October, filming got suspended for a week after people on the set in Italy tested positive for the virus.

Interview: Georgie Bailey ties us in knots with Tethered

Tethered, Or The Adventures of the Adequately Excited People, seems to be another play that is going to play havoc with our word count (see also How to live a jellicle life: life lessons from the 2019 hit movie musical ‘cats). But long name aside, we’re always more than pleased to chat to anyone crazy enough to be planning a show right now. And for that reason, we thoroughly enjoyed catching up with Georgie Bailey, Artistic Director of Chewboy Productions, to find out more about the play and whether our GSCE French is at all relevant to anything.
First things first then Georgie, tell us what to expect with Tethered.
Tethered is going to be a madcap, bizarre, run-around hour of surreal theatre. You can expect printers with prophecies to deliver, a lot of strange words inspired by our current language and (most importantly), balloons and party hats for all. As if two characters being tied together wasn’t enough, there’s also this idea of the audience choosing the order of their story, which is both terrifying and exciting for us as actors. Expect a big adventure and treat everything as more than meets the eye. There’s a lot of content covered in an hour, and the piece gets very child-like and silly in a very comedic way at points, but then suddenly diverges into more serious, poignant and poetic points. Oh, and you can definitely expect to see a lot of fun being had with this huge old rope we’ve got. A whole lot of physical comedy is coming your way at the Lion and Unicorn folks…
How will the audience get to decide the order then? And does the running order of the two halves effect the outcome?
We’ve actually had a lot of fun with devising how best to let the audience decide which half they see first. Initially, we were going to use a coin flip, then realised COVID was a thing and that it might not be the best option to go with a sweaty coin getting exchanged between sweaty palms. So, we went through a few different variations of what could happen and are still experimenting with it now. It might change every night, but at the moment we’ve got a big game of splat taking place, where both characters represent Half A and Half B (sums up the play, really). The audience decide a category and the two actors are pitted against one another; determining the victor through playing.
We also tried a thing called a moo-off, a show of hands, a mind-reading exercise and a short, sharp game of twister. Anything could happen… And yes! The order determines how you view the play and how things pan out for the characters. It’s quite a cyclical play in that everything has a place and makes sense between Parts A and B, but your opinion and perspective of the characters and this bizarre situation alters quite dramatically depending on the order you experience.
Do we detect a hint of lockdown madness in the theme of excitement at the pair possibly being untethered and released? Was this a show inspired by lockdown, or just created during it?
Your detection is on point! We wanted to create something that physically embodied both lockdown and social distancing, but it’s taken to a much more abstract, absurd and surreal place. There is no mention of lockdown, COVID or our real world – it’s all a lot more distant and strange. Our plans were thrown up in the air a bit; our original show was due to be produced as part of the Lion and Unicorn Theatre’s Associate Artist scheme has had to be postponed until late 2021, so we wanted to keep creative and busy during lockdowns 1&2, so decided to create this. Mainly for us to have fun, but also for the audience to have a bit of fun too.
Your characters are Sans and Moins, which as obviously spotted straight away (honest we did) means Without and Less in French, is that at all relevant or are we reading too much into things?
Very beady eyes from you all – yes, it is very relevant, both in character and situation. But we don’t want to give too much away at all! It’s a well-hidden little thing, so you’ll have to whack those beady eyes out again when you see the play.
The show was initially pencilled in for a December run, but you’ve decided to push it back now due to lockdown 2 (and since the time of interview, lockdown 3), was that a difficult decision to make?
It was a super difficult decision to make. We’d had the show pencilled in for a good couple of months as well as had the script developed, rehearsal space booked etc. etc. But with lockdown 2, we realised rehearsal would be almost impossible with us being spread across the country. In a way though, we’re grateful for the additional time to work on the show further, have some more fun with it and get it up to scratch to reach its full potential for February.
Finally, and because we really couldn’t let it pass by without comment, you’ve recently published “Poems While You Poo”; would you recommend that as a Christmas present for our dad’s maybe? And is there any poems in the collection about the toilet roll shortage crisis from the first lockdown?
We might be biased, but we’d definitely recommend it as a Christmas presents, not just for Dad’s but for the whole family! The collection is illustrated beautifully by my partner-in-crime Hal Darling (co-founder of ChewBoy) and takes you through the seven stages of doing your business, with a variety of poems ranging from comedic, wholesome, educational and emotional – it’s all there for your toilet breaks. And it’s available in hardback and paperback – so there’s a version for every book lover or toilet fiend you know. And we’d love to say there is some poems about the toilet roll shortage of lockdown gone by, but we’d been developing the book for such a long time before lockdown that we missed that boat! Maybe in our sequel that’ll make an appearance…
    ===========================================================
As always, our thanks to Georgie for taking the time during the latest lockdown to chat to us about the show. It is now scheduled to play at Lion & Unicorn Theatre between 9 and 14 February 2021. Further information, tickets and of course, that book, can be found on their website below. More
