'Godzilla vs. Kong' Fans Furious Over Possible Streaming Debut

    Warner Bros.

The follow-up to ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ may skip theatrical release in favor of going to a streamer, with Netflix reportedly already making a $200M offer for the movie.

    Nov 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – The wait is perhaps too long for Legendary Pictures until the time is right to release “Godzilla vs. Kong” in cinemas. After postponing it release date from November 2020 to May 21, 2021, the studio is reportedly considering to skip the planned theatrical release in favor of heading to a streamer.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Netflix is one of the streaming services interested in acquiring the rights to distribute the film. It reportedly has made an offer of more than $200 million for the film.
While it sounds like a lucrative deal, Legendary Pictures may not be sold that easily. Warner Bros., which currently holds the worldwide distribution rights for the movie except for in Japan, reportedly has blocked the deal and intends to bring it to its own streamer, HBO Max.
However, as of Wednesday night, November 25, Warner Bros. denied that there’s a plan for the movie to skip the theatrical release and head straight to streaming service. “We plan to release ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ theatrically next year as scheduled,” said a spokesperson for the studio.
Despite the unconfirmed reports, fans couldn’t help feeling disappointed should the sequel to 2019’s “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” and 2017’s Kong: Skull Island really head to a streamer. Reacting to the news on Twitter, they expressed their disagreement with the alleged plan for streaming debut.

“I hate this so much. #GodzillaVsKong deserves to be seen on the biggest movie screen possible. Don’t do this, @wbpictures,” one fan warned the studio. Another echoed the sentiment, “#GodzillavsKong is Made For IMAX and the big screen. Going to streaming is a big mistake!!!”
“Jesus… the theater industry is taking hit after hit over these moves to streaming. I can’t see this being good for any of them in the long run. This news makes me sad,” a third person lamented the movie industry amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Another said that he’d rather wait longer to see it in theater rather than having the film released earlier on a streaming service. “@Legendary @wbpictures I’ll gladly wait another year to see Godzilla vs. Kong on the big screen, as intended. Please, please don’t skip the theatrical release!” the said person pleaded.
Someone else expressed her/his opinion, “Omg this is super big bruh moment if I don’t get to see Godzilla vs Kong the climatic rematch of the century on IMAX I’m a cry. I really wanted to see Godzilla and Kong again on the movie screen super badly!”
“Godzilla vs. Kong” wrapped filming in April 2019 with Adam Wingard serving behind the lens. Starring Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown and Rebecca Hall among others, it will pit Godzilla against King Kong, the two most powerful forces of nature, in a spectacular battle for the ages.

'Animaniacs' Star Reacts to #BoycottWarnerBros Campaign Following Johnny Depp Joke

Prior to this, fans were attacking the show and Warner Bros. by trending the hashtag on social media after they perceived a movie poster as an apparent jab at the actor and his legal battle with Amber Heard.

    Nov 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – Amid the huge backlash that “Animaniacs” reboot receives due to an apparent offensive joke about Johnny Depp, a star of the Hulu series has addressed the matter. In a new interview with CinemaBlend, Rob Paulsen, who voices Yakko Warner, has attempted to clear the air regarding a controversial poster of fictional movie “Johnny 2: Telling Lies”.
“The truth about that is that there’s a poem, a children’s poem, a book called ‘Lying Johnny,’ or ‘Johny Johny’ or something like that, you can look it up,” Paulsen explained about the actual meaning of the poster, which fans thought was making fun of Johnny’s legal case with ex Amber Heard. “And remember, this was done a couple of years ago.”
He went on saying, “And by the way, this is a background that is involved in one of the episodes. And frankly, I’m not sure which one because I don’t draw them and I don’t write them.”

      See also…

Paulsen also shared that he personally researched the joke because he’s been getting heat himself following the controversial part in the episode. ” ‘Mr. Paulsen, how could you?’ ‘How could I what? What did I do?’ ‘Well, Johnny Depp and you know, he’s being mistreated.’ I don’t know what people are talking about,” he revealed. “So I did a little research. Well, check out ‘Johny Johny.’ And you know, and if you see earlier in that background shot, there’s a baby eating sugar, and that’s part of the children’s rhyme.”
Prior to this, fans were attacking the show and Warner Bros. by trending #BoycottWarnerBrothers on social media after they perceived the movie poster as a jab at the “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” star. The said poster for a fake movie titled “Johnny 2: Telling Lies” featured the actor holding a pair of scissors, which was seemingly an “Edward Scissorhands” reference.
Accusing them of portraying the actor in a bad light, one fan wrote, “Warner Brothers: this is a sick thing to do to an abuse survivor. Listen to the tapes – Johnny Depp has been put through psychological torture and physical abuse. I’m sorry that I don’t find this funny, but it’s no laughing matter.” One other added, “As much as I liked the new Animaniacs, I can not in good conscience bring myself to support this show or Warner Brothers. It is absolutely sickening to see them use a cartoon to make fun of an Abuse victim while wholeheartedly defending the culprit.”
“WTF! This is absolutely disgusting… Way to go a ruin the new Animaniac’s show for me… #BoycottWarnerBrothers,” another fan similarly commented.

Prince Charles Disables Twitter Replies Due to Trolling Comments From 'The Crown' Fans

    WENN/Avalon

The alteration apparently is a move to avoid hateful comments which the British royal couple has been flooded with as someone shows disapproval of Duchess Camilla, writing, ‘#TeamPrincessDiana #DianaStill.’

    Nov 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – Prince Charles seemingly has had enough with the trollings from fans of Netflix’s royal series “The Crown”. The Duke of Cornwall and wife Duchess Camilla have turned off the comments section of their joint account following tons of hate messages they have been receiving from fans of the hit drama, which centered on Prince Charless and late Lady Diana in current season 4.
Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla recently shared a tweet about their charity event. “The Duchess of Cornwall, Patron of @EmmausUK, recently joined a video call with staff and formerly homeless residents of @EmmausBrighton, known as companions, to discuss the challenges faced by the charity as a result of the coronavirus crisis,” read the Tuesday, November 24 tweet that only allowed users whom the Clarence House account follows to be able to reply to the post.
The alteration apparently is a move to avoid hateful comments which the British royal couple has been flooded with. “The true princess of wales, always Diana, Camilla, the eternal lover, the greatness of Diana will be eternal, no one will be able to take her place, Charles of England will never be King and neither deserves it .., Diana Princess of Wales will live forever,” one user tweeted on November 22. Showing disapproval of Duchess Camilla, someone added, “#TeamPrincessDiana #DianaStill.”

In season 4 of “The Crown”, Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) was depicted miserable after seemingly being forced to marry Lady Diana (Emma Corrin) while he was actually in love with Camilla, who was also married at the time. “I care about her. Morning, noon and night, I care about her. … Camilla is who I want. That is where my loyalties lie. That is who my priority is,” he told Diana in one episode.
“I refuse to be blamed any longer for this grotesque misalliance. I wash my hands of it. If you have a complaint about not being loved or appreciated in this marriage, I suggest you take it up with the people who arranged it,” he added.
In an interview with TVLine, Josh described his character as “a man desperately trying to get out of this mess.” He went on to say of Charles and Diana, “These are two very lost souls … They both needed something they couldnt give each other, and it didn’t work.”

Mads Mikkelsen Officially Confirmed to Replace Johnny Depp in 'Fantastic Beasts 3'

    WENN/Warner Bros

The ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ actor was previously reported to be David Yates’ top choice to play Gellert Grindelwald in the ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ sequel.

    Nov 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Fantastic Beasts” has officially found its new Gellert Grindelwald. Two weeks after casting news emerged that Mads Mikkelsen was in early talks to portray the main villain in the follow-up to “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”, Warner Bros. confirmed on Wednesday, November 25 to Deadline that the Danish actor has been cast in “Fantastic Beasts 3”.
The studio was moving fast to find Johnny Depp’s replacement after the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star agreed to leave the franchise following his loss in a libel lawsuit with a British tabloid. The “Hannibal” alum was reported to be director David Yates’ choice to play Grindelwald earlier this month.
He, however, denied that he was negotiating to star in the movie when asked by IGN last week. “Oh, that is on the rumor basis as we speak,” he told the site over the phone. “So I know as much as you do from the newspapers. So I’m waiting for that phone call.”

Fans, meanwhile, pushed for the studio to hire Colin Farrell, who already played Grindelwald in disguise in the first film, 2016’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”. The actor, however, is currently unavailable as he has been filming another Warner Bros. movie, Matt Reeves’ “The Batman”, in which he’s playing one of the villains, The Penguin.
Depp announced his withdrawal from the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise via Instagram on Friday, November 6. “I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request,” he said in a statement.
“Fantastic Beasts 3” has been in production with Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law leading the cast. The movie is currently scheduled to open in theaters on July 15, 2022 release, after it was moved from its original due date of November 12, 2021.

Faizon Love Sues Movie Bosses Over Racist 'Couples Retreat' Poster

The 52-year-old comedian has filed a lawsuit against Universal Studios bosses, accusing them of racism for cutting him out of the 2009 romantic comedy movie poster.

    Nov 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – Comedian Faizon Love is taking Universal Studios bosses to court for racial discrimination, 11 years after he was cut out of the movie poster for his film “Couples Retreat”.
The actor had a supporting role in the 2009 romantic comedy, which starred Vince Vaughn, Malin Akerman, Jon Favreau, and Jason Bateman, and featured in the background of the initial promo poster with his onscreen love interest, played by Kali Hawk.
The pair portrayed the only non-white couple in the project, about four couples attempting to repair their relationships at a luxurious resort.
However, Love and Hawk were removed from the “Couples Retreat” poster when the film was released outside of North America, and at the time, the actors received an apology from Universal chiefs for causing offence, and they promised to pull the ad.
However, Love claims that never happened, and in July (20), he realised the image is still widely used to market the movie internationally.
He is now suing over the snub, filing suit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday (25Nov20).
“This film was a big money-maker for Universal, but instead of honoring my work and my contract, the studio chose to render me invisible to billions of moviegoers around the world,” he stated in the legal papers.

      See also…

Love goes on to accuse Universal executives of reneging on a promise to offer him future lucrative TV and film gigs – a tactic he now claims was simply used to keep him quiet during the original controversy, reports Variety.
“What Universal Studios had initially portrayed to Mr. Love as an unintentional act of oversight and carelessness was, we now know, an intentional act of disparate and discriminatory treatment by Universal Studios…,” his lawyers added.
Love explains he is launching the legal action to seek redress on behalf of other black actors mistreated by Hollywood bosses.
“They have not only hurt me financially, they have hurt me in a deeper way by dismissing me because of my Blackness – and they have hurt all Black performers by continuing to perpetuate racism in the movie industry,” Love wrote in a statement.
“I want to ensure that future generations don’t have to endure the racism and whitewashing that I have experienced.”
Love is suing for fraud, breach of contract, and violation of California’s fair employment act and civil rights law.
Studio representatives have yet to respond to the legal action.

Josh Duhamel Credits Injured Dan Bakkedahl for Saving 'Buddy Games'

    WENN/Adriana M. Barraza

The comedy movie about a group of lifelong friends competing for a cash prize, which also stars Kevin Dillon, marks the first feature-length directorial debut for the ‘Transformers’ star.

    Nov 25, 2020
AceShowbiz – Josh Duhamel will forever be grateful to “Buddy Games” star Dan Bakkedahl for helping him complete his directorial debut on time.
Bakkedahl injured his leg in a water slide stunt but ignored doctors’ advice to rest up and decided the show must go on, so first-time director Duhamel didn’t have to halt the production.
“I flipped over sideways and landed on my leg wrong and it swelled up huge and I had to be rushed to the hospital with an ambulance,” Dan tells WENN. “The doctor said, ‘You can’t go back to work’, but I went back and was on crutches. They had to shoot around my leg being elevated through the rest of the half of the film.”
“I just loved this group and the script so much that I couldn’t imagine not finishing.”

      See also…

And Duhamel can’t thank the “Veep” star enough, adding, “Honestly, the fact that Dan was even able to finish that movie saved us because we should’ve probably been shut down. He was that hurt.”
“He came back and we laid him down and iced it, propped him back up for each take, and laid him back down between takes! It was pretty amazing that not only did he continue but he gave an amazing performance despite that.”
Castmate Kevin Dillon was also injured while making the movie about a group of lifelong friends competing for a cash prize.
“Something nicked my nose and I said, ‘Josh, is my nose OK?’ And he’s like, ‘Hold still, hold still…’ They basically had to put a piece of my nose back! There was blood coming down my face. They patched it up and went on to do the shot. It was a very physical movie. We got through it somehow but there were some crazy dangerous moments.”

New 'The Batman' Set Photos Give First Look at Batcave

    Warner Bros. Pictures

Built in a separate section of a studio lot, the secret headquarters of the Caped Crusader features an artificial rock cliff that makes up the outside of the Batcave.

    Nov 25, 2020
AceShowbiz – Batman’s secret headquarters is not so secret anymore, at least to fans of the upcoming movie. New photos from the set of “The Batman” have leaked online, giving first look at Matt Reeves’ version of Batcave for Robert Pattinson’s title character.
Aerial shots obtained by Daily Mail revealed production crew of the movie were busily preparing the set in a studio lot on Tuesday, November 24. The distinct building of Batman features an artificial rock cliff that makes up the outside of the Batcave.
The top of the cliffs have been decorated by small trees to exaggerate how large the cliffside actually is. A large pit was built into the makeshift rock face and while what’s inside the Batcave was not visible from the outside, the place is surrounded by large pool of water.

‘The Batman’ set photo revealed Batcave.

In different section of the studio lot, the crew were transforming the outdoor space into Gotham City. There were a number of buildings which were painted to appear as if they were burnt-out. One part of the set features a large steel gate and doors as part of the Gotham Harbour Iceberg Fishing co., which could be one of The Penguin’s hideouts.
Abandoned cars and piles of rubbish were strewn across the streets to show Gotham City’s grim nature. Meanwhile, a lot of crew members were working on an ice rink which was about to be turned into part of Gotham City, but it was still covered by snow.
“The Batman” recently faced another setback after a stuntman tested positive for COVID-19. According to The Sun, the performer, who was part of a bubble with nine other crew members, may not return to set until 2021 as they all quarantine ahead of the Christmas break.
Filming, however, is still underway as lead actor Robert Pattinson and the film’s crew are unaffected by the positive test. They, however, reportedly admitted that the situation was still “pretty disastrous.”
“The Batman” is currently set for a March 4, 2022 release date.

Kristen Stewart Points Out Loophole in Notion That Only Gay Actors Should Play Gay Characters

    WENN/Avalon

The ‘Happiest Season’ star is undecided about her stance in the matter as she realizes that by such rule, she will no longer be able to play a straight character.

    Nov 25, 2020
AceShowbiz – Kristen Stewart has weighed in on the long debate of whether straight performers should steer clear of gay roles. The actress revealed her stance in the issue during an interview with Variety to discuss her upcoming film “Happiest Season”, in which she portrays a young lesbian who celebrates the holidays at her girlfriend’s parents’ home.
When asked if she agrees that gay characters should only be portrayed by gay actors, the 30-year-old prefaced her answer by saying, “I think about this all the time.” Stewart, who has taken roles in indies as well as mainstream movies, admitted, “Being somebody who has had so much access to work, I’ve just lived with such a creative abundance.”
Stewart rose to fame for portraying Bella Swan in the “Twilight Saga” film series before she began publicly dating women and confirmed she’s bisexual in 2017. “You know, a young white girl who was straight and only really was gay later and is, like, skinny – do you know what I’m saying? I so acknowledge that I’ve just gotten to work,” she continued.
While she agrees that “I would never want to tell a story that really should be told by somebody who’s lived that experience,” the “Panic Room” star pointed out there’s “a gray area” in the notion. She explained, “It’s a slippery slope conversation because that means I could never play another straight character if I’m going to hold everyone to the letter of this particular law.”

      See also…

“There are ways for men to tell women’s stories, or ways for women to tell men’s stories,” she argued, before adding the condition, “But we need to have our finger on the pulse and actually have to care. You kind of know where you’re allowed.”
Stressing the importance of approval from the community represented by a certain character, the BAFTA Award-winning actress added, “I mean, if you’re telling a story about a community and they’re not welcoming to you, then f**k off. But if they are, and you’re becoming an ally and a part of it and there’s something that drove you there in the first place that makes you uniquely endowed with a perspective that might be worthwhile.”
“There’s nothing wrong with learning about each other. And therefore helping each other tell stories,” she stressed, before concluding her opinion on the matter, “So I don’t have a sure-shot answer for that.”
Citing her “Happiest Season” co-star Mackenzie Davis as an example, Stewart said how having a straight actor in a gay role can be justified. “I will say, Mackenzie is not somebody who identifies as a lesbian. She was the only person in my mind that could have played this with me,” she explained.
Noting that her opinion could be biased, she added, “Sometimes, artfully speaking, you’re just drawn to a certain group of people. I could defend that, but I’m sure that somebody with a different perspective could make me feel bad about that – and then make me renege on everything I’ve just said. I acknowledge the world that we live in. And I absolutely would never want to traipse on someone else’s opportunity to do that – I would feel terrible about that.”
