Malin Akerman's Sister Helps Save Her Movie 'Chick Fight' From Chaos

    WENN

Jennifer Akerman is credited for helping save her actress sister’s latest movie ‘Chick Fight’ amid the coronavirus pandemic as she lent a hand with the soundtrack.

    Nov 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – Malin Akerman’s new movie, “Chick Fight”, was a real family affair – her sister, Jennifer, provided the film’s music.
Director Paul Leyden turned to his producer and leading lady’s sibling for help as earthquakes in Puerto Rico, where he shot the film about an underground, all-female fight club, and the COVID pandemic turned the project into chaos.
“Malin Akerman’s younger sister, Jennifer Akerman, is an incredibly talented musician and I reached out to her to see if the material inspired her to maybe do some original tracks,” he tells WENN. “Inspired was an understatement. Jennifer’s music is all over the film and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the texture her banging tunes give to the final product.”
Leyden admits the film’s music was one of the only things that came together smoothly.

“The production and post-production of Chick Fight was a literal fight every step of the way,” he explains. “In production, Puerto Rico continued its feud with mother nature and suffered some of its worst earthquakes in a hundred years, causing many power outages and other inconveniences.”
“Then, just as we wrapped, a little thing called COVID-19 reared its ugly little head making post-production a challenging and isolating affair. I worked on the edit while my family and I were quarantining in the Swiss Alps. My editor was stuck in Paris… The sound mix and final colour was done in Los Angeles while I was in Belgium. It literally feels like this movie is on the run from Interpol!”
But all the drama in Puerto Rico has not put Malin off returning – she reveals she fell in love with the country.
“We started production just a week after the island was hit by a powerful earthquake,” she adds. “We hope our production can play a small part in bringing back a sense of normalcy to the community, as well as providing a small economic boost to the region. Puerto Rico has been a wonderful place to live and shoot. I look forward to returning for future films and TV shows and we hope we can encourage other productions to do the same.”

Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders Forced to Close TV Company After Almost Three Decades

    WENN

The Saunders and French Productions are closing their operations after filing for voluntary liquidation, nearly three decades after the firm was founded by the actress duo in 1992.

    Nov 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – U.K. comedy legends Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders are shuttering their shared TV production firm after almost three decades.
The double act launched Saunders & French Productions in 1992 after finding fame with their “French and Saunders” sketch show in the late 1980s, and the funny duo’s company bosses went on to co-produce the hit series “Absolutely Fabulous”.
However, according to Deadline, the partners have filed for voluntary liquidation, with an insolvency company appointed to wind down the organisation’s operations.
A notice to creditors states that the closure is a solvent liquidation, meaning all creditors should be paid in full.

The firm’s latest financial reports, dating from July, 2019, reveal $369,852 (£281,622) in capital and debts of only $3,228 (£2,461).
Recent ventures have included a 2016 “Absolutely Fabulous” movie and a special episode of “French and Saunders”, released the following year.
The closure of Saunders & French Productions won’t see the end of their working relationship, however, with both stars set to appear in Kenneth Branagh’s new murder-mystery movie “Death on the Nile”.
The “Murder on the Orient Express” sequel, along with Shawn Levy’s action-comedy “Free Guy” starring Ryan Reynolds, was recently delayed amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The two films were initially due to come out on 11 and 18 December (20), respectively, but studio bosses have opted to postpone the planned theatrical releases as the Covid-19 crisis continues to impact cinema audiences.

    20th Century Fox

The release dates for the action-comedy fronted by Ryan Reynolds and the film directed by Kenneth Branagh have been put on hold indefinitely due to the ongoing health crisis.

    Nov 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – Shawn Levy’s action-comedy “Free Guy”, starring Ryan Reynolds, and Kenneth Branagh’s “Death on the Nile” have been delayed amid the pandemic.
The 20th Century Studios flicks were due to drop on 11 and 18 December (20), respectively, but bosses have opted to postpone the planned theatrical releases as the Covid-19 crisis continues to impact cinema audiences.
In the U.S., moviegoing has yet to recover from the pandemic, with 55 per cent of theatres remaining shut, reported The Hollywood Reporter, including major locations like New York City and Los Angeles. Venues have similarly begun closing down again across Europe.
Consequently, movies including “Dune” and James Bond flick “No Time to Die” have been delayed, with Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” the only new major release to hit the big screen in recent months.

Universal’s Freaky and Universal/DreamWorks Animations’ Thanksgiving offering “Croods: The New Age” will also hit theatres on 13 and 25 November, respectively, however, they’ll also be available on home media earlier than usual due to the circumstances.
Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman 1984”, from Warner Bros., closes the 2020 calendar, with the superhero sequel presently set for a 25 December release.
Broadway has also been struggling to adapt to post-coronavirus world since lockdown was first imposed earlier this year. Many projects were either pushed back or called off as the industry was brought to a standstill due to the worldwide pandemic.
There were 24 shows open and running on Broadway before the shutdown and five more were in previews. At least three productions, “Frozen”, “Hangmen”, and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” have already announced they will not return.

The ‘Bombshell’ actress explains how she built chemistry with her onscreen husband for new TV show ‘The Undoing’ despite having never worked together before.

    Nov 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – Nicole Kidman’s long friendship with Hugh Grant helped them play a married couple in their new show “The Undoing” – despite having never worked together before.
In the thrilling HBO miniseries Nicole plays psychologist Grace Fraser whose world falls apart when her husband, Jonathan, played by Hugh, is linked to the death of a parent at their children’s private school.
Despite their lack of screentime together, “The Others” star said they hardly had to act when playing a married couple due to a longtime friendship that led to them behaving like husband and wife.

“We’ve known each other since our early 20s,” Nicole tells U.K. chat show host Graham Norton. “We’re friends and our paths have crossed, so it was very apropos to be playing a husband and wife that have been married for 10 years because we sort of have that demeanour together.”
Although they’re pals, however, the Aussie actress believed she had missed out on the chance to work with the “Four Weddings and a Funeral” star as he has picked his projects selectively for a number of years.
“I’ve always wanted to work with him, and I have always been a big fan,” she adds. “When the director suggested him, I thought he would never do it because he is famous for not wanting to work. He says he doesn’t like working but he is so good when he does – he is amazing.”
Nicole’s interview airs on Friday’s (06Nov20) episode of “The Graham Norton Show”.

Emma Corrin Struggled to Learn Ballet at 24 to Prepare for Her Role as Princess Diana in 'The Crown'

    Netflix

The ‘Pennyworth’ actress opens up about the biggest challenge when it comes to portraying Lady Diana Spencer in the upcoming fourth installment of the Netflix royal drama series.

    Nov 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – Emma Corrin’s biggest challenge in her portrayal of Princess Diana came during the dancing scenes.
The actress, 24, debuts on the fourth season of “The Crown”, which hits Netflix on 15 November (20), with the latest instalment documenting Prince Charles’ romance with Lady Diana Spencer.
Speaking to MailOnline, Corrin confessed that learning her steps for Diana’s favourite past time didn’t come easy, admitting, “I definitely could not dance!”
“Diana’s love of dance was how she expressed herself emotionally, I think,” shared the star, who went on to note that, for her, picking up the routines was frustrating.

“There was a running joke at school that I danced like a spider because my limbs are too long,” she said, adding, “It’s hard to learn ballet when you’re 24! I really held on to the fact that Diana wasn’t a professional dancer.”
Corrin’s admissions come after it was reported by The Sun that the show will air a warning to viewers before episodes covering Diana’s battle with bulimia.
“The following episode includes scenes of an eating disorder which some viewers may find troubling. Viewers discretion is required,” says the notice, ahead of moments showing the late royal gorging on puddings before going into the bathroom and turning on taps to mask the sound of her being sick.
The life and legacy of Lady Diana will also be narrated in a biopic called “Spencer”. She will be played by Kristen Stewart in the movie.
The American actress recently admitted she struggled to master Diana’s English lilt. “The accent is intimidating as all hell because people know that voice, and it’s so, so distinct and particular,” she said. “I’m working on it now and already have my dialect coach.”

Kevin Costner Inspires Lesley Manville to 'Get Down and Dirty' in 'Let Him Go'

    WENN/Nicky Nelson/Lia Toby

The actress, who plays the matriarch of a dangerous North Dakota clan in the new thriller, also thanks her 65-year-old co-star for helping her get to grips with her onset firearms.

    Nov 7, 2020
AceShowbiz – British actress Lesley Manville was determined to “get down and dirty” and pull off her own stunts in new Western “Let Him Go” after watching co-star Kevin Costner in action.
The “Phantom Thread” star plays the tough matriarch of a dangerous North Dakota clan living off the grid in the new thriller, and Manville admits she was eager to “flex muscles” she had never used before – and it’s all thanks to 65-year-old Costner, who also helped her get to grips with her onset firearms.
“I thought, ‘Yeah, I’m going to get down and dirty as well! If he can do it, I’m going to do it, too,’ having done none of it ever,” Manville laughed to The Associated Press.
“I suddenly decided I was going to be the stunt girl. I was going to throw myself around. I was going to be handling that gun having never picked a gun up in my life. But I did have Kevin helping me. And I did it. And he said I did it really, really well and that he was actually quite scared.”

Manville was so adept at the stunt work, filmmaker Thomas Bezucha didn’t feel the need to call in her double.
“I got to flex muscles that I haven’t really flexed before,” she smiled. “It was just thrilling.”
“Let Him Go”, based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Larry Watson, also stars Diane Lane as Costner’s wife, and Manville was particularly excited to share the screen with the pair.
“It was a no-brainer,” she said of taking on the role, although she was initially a little nervous about working alongside the Hollywood veterans.
“They’re great actors, but they’re also movie stars and that can be intimidating,” Manville shared. “Although I say very, very quickly on the heels of that statement that neither of them play that role. They don’t do the movie star thing. They are workers like me.”
