  • Adele Faces Backlash Over African Sex Tourism Sketch on 'SNL'

    NBC

The ‘Chasing Pavement’ hitmaker and ‘Saturday Night Live’ come under fire for doing a sketch about African sex tourism during her first hosting gig on the show.

    Oct 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Adele and “Saturday Night Live” landed in hot water. They were criticized over a sketch intended to poke fun at sex tourism. In the skit, the “When We Were Young” hitmaker along with “SNL” regulars Kate McKinnon and Heidi Gardner played White divorcees thirsting over African men.
They invited fans to visit Africa as they made comments full of sexual innuendo about the African men. The female trio described the local males as “tribesmen” and “massive bamboos” while shirtless Black male extras were seen accompanying white women on a beach in the background.
The parody which described Africa as “the number one destination for divorcees of a certain age” was deemed insensitive, inappropriate, and ill-timed amid the ongoing EndSARS protests taking place in Nigeria.

“That Africa skit was tone def, insensitive and inappropriate,” tweeted Shenequa Golding, a journalist at R&B news website Vibe. “Men and women in Nigeria, Namibia, South Africa and The Democratic Republic of the Congo are fighting for their lives and to reduce the continent as sexual destination for white women is shameful.”
MTV host Dometi Pongo made similar comments, “If you’re gonna try to touch that, it’s gotta be just a little smarter & more nuanced or don’t touch it at all. Not (right now).”
Another person wrote, “@Adele, babes have u no idea whats going on in Africa?. Surly u have African friends who can educate you. #SNL jokes were tasteless and the wrong time babe. #smh! Bring out that album instead.”
Neither Adele nor “SNL” issued any comments about the controversial sketch which aired last weekend. The episode featuring musical performer by H.E.R. marked Adele’s first time-ever as a host on the NBC show despite her previous visits as a musical guest.

  • Diego Luna Leave 'Narcos: Mexico' for 'Star Wars' Series

    WENN

The ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ actor will not return for the third season of ‘Narcos’ spin-off as he prepares to reprise his ‘Star Wars’ role in an upcoming show.

    Oct 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actor Diego Luna won’t return for the third season of Netflix spin-off “Narcos: Mexico”.
While bosses at the streamer have ordered more episodes of the drug-trafficking drama series, however, its return will be without series lead Luna, who portrayed drug cartel leader Felix Gallardo.
The second season of the programme ended with Luna’s character sentenced to prison for his drug trafficking crimes and, following much speculation, Deadline confirmed he’ll be absent from the show – as the actor prepares to reprise his Cassian Andor character in Disney+ “Star Wars” spin-off series “Rogue One”, which is currently in pre-production.
Meanwhile, showrunner Eric Newman is also stepping down from his post, with series co-creator Carlo Bernard taking over his duties. Newman will, however, continue to executive produce the series.

“I am grateful for my five years at the helm of Narcos and Narcos: Mexico and am immensely proud of what this spectacular team has achieved with these shows,” he said in a statement.
“Carlo Bernard is the first person I ever spoke to about this project, over ten years ago, and I am extremely pleased to leave the steering of Season 3 of Narcos: Mexico in his very capable hands.”
Set in the 1990s, the next instalment of the show will examine the war that breaks out after the Gallardo empire splinters and a new generation of Mexican kingpins emerge.
Scoot McNairy, Jose Maria Yazpik, Alberto Ammann, Alfonso Dosal, Mayra Hermosillo, Matt Letscher, Manuel Masalva, Alejandro Edda, and Gorka Lasaosa will all return for the third season.

Interview: Mimi Monteith’s Last Call for Closure, a show about saying goodbye and hostage taking

The play works to match the internal tension between the characters with the external panic and terror going on so nearby

Mimi Monteith’s Last Call for Closure is heading to The Vaults next month. It’s a tale of saying goodbye to an ex, against the backdrop of a hostage situation just a few doors down. And whilst we’ve never been held hostage, we can probably all relate to saying goodbye. We caught up with Mimi to find out more about the play and how it’s been shaped by lockdown?
So Mimi, first things first, what’s the play all about then?
Have you ever been in the situation where you’ve been invited to a friend’s birthday at the pub, and your ex is also there? You don’t talk to them all night but then you find an excuse to be the last ones to leave so that you can have a catch-up? That’s what the play is about, but instead of it ending there, due to a pub down the road being held hostage, they get stuck in their pub for 6 hours, until it is safe to leave. The play works to match the internal tension between the characters with the external panic and terror going on so nearby.
We love the idea that the pair are locked in due to a hostage situation nearby, we assume the inspiration isn’t from first-hand experience of ever being held hostage. So, what then was the initial spark for this story
In lockdown I kept coming back to the idea of being trapped somewhere because of an invisible enemy. A lot of my friends’ relationships have broken down because of lockdown and this ‘invisible enemy’ and I wanted to create something similar to that, but give the enemy a face. It has of course developed a long way from there, but in classic pandemic style, the spark was from COVID-19.
We’ve surely all had that “difficult” conversation when we’ve broken up with a partner, are there elements from your own life present? Any ex’s likely to spot something they might recognise?
Haha! I think with all writing there is an element of auto-biography to it, even if it is hidden deep in subtext, I’m sure there are lines that an ex or two out there can relate to. That being said, I think if you were to look for similarities to my love life and this show, you’d come up short.
Interestingly, the more that the play has been rehearsed, I am realising that without noticing, I’ve written about what I call ‘the decision to be an adult’. There are certainly elements from my ‘decision’ to grow up that are littered throughout the script; it is almost as if the pair breaking up are my current self with my younger self – Does that makes sense?
The show’s a two-hander, how involved were you in deciding on Eleanor de Rohan and Daniel Lockett as your breaking-up couple?
I was absolutely involved! I have worked with both actors on previous shows that I’ve had and when it came to casting they were definitely top choices – I only had to see whether their chemistry worked. I was in floods of tears in their audition together, they’re FANTASTIC.
The press release reads between both serious drama and comedic, is that a fair take of what to expect in the play’s style?
Yes, 100%. I’ve always found that ‘pressure cookers’ in theatre are created through finding that moment where something that is so awful it is somehow funny. Remaining on that ledge is something I’ve always loved exploring and it has the opportunity to be solved by simply laughing, or explode; it’s extremely exciting.
And just before we say goodbye for now, if you did happen to get caught up in a hostage situation whilst the show is on next month, anyone you’d like to be locked in with at the time?
I’m pretty sure El de Rohan and Dan Lockett have now nailed exactly how to handle the situation, I’d stick my their sides any day.
    =====================================
Thanks to Mimi for her time in chatting to us about her new play. You can catch Last Call for Closure at The Vaults between 9 and 13 November, tickets can be purchased direct from the venue website below. More

AceShowbiz – Upcoming Colin Kaepernick series on Netflix has found its young Colin on Jaden Michael. Michael has been cast to play the former NFL quarterback and civil rights activist on “Colin in Black & White”.
The six-episode series will center on Kaepernick’s childhood as a young African-American teen growing up in a white adoptive family. The limited series will also show how his experiences shaped his football talent. It will also explore Kaepernick’s journey to become a civil rights advocate.

Colin Kaepernick announced Jaden Michael’s casting.
“Colin in Black & White” will have Ava DuVernay directing its first episode. Meanwhile, Michael Starrbury, who previously teamed up with DuVernay on Emmy-winning series “When They See Us”, has been tapped to pen the script for the series.
In addition to narrating and appearing on the show as himself, Kaepernick serves as executive producer. He is joined by DuVernay and Starrbury.
Kaepernick has set multiple records and won numerous accolades while playing six seasons in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers. He made headlines in 2016 after starting kneeling campaign during the national anthem before games in protest of police brutality and systemic racism in America which led to him not being hired by any team on NFL. After filing a lawsuit against the league, they reached a settlement in 2019. He’s still a free agent player as of now.

Elsewhere in a new episode of the MTV show, Leah Messer opens up about her past secrets, including getting addicted to painkillers, while Briana DeJesus gives DeVoin a chance, though it doesn’t work out.

    Oct 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – It’s a rough episode for Kailyn Lowry. The “Teen Mom 2” star was seen getting emotional in the Tuesday, October 27 episode as she confirmed that she was pregnant with ex Chris Lopez’s child.
The 28-year-old reality TV star broke down in tears while talking about how the news of her pregnancy got out without her consent. “Chris’ aunt decided to post a photo of my ultrasound on social media, which obviously went viral,” she shared. “I haven’t really said anything publicly about it. I’m pregnant.”
The “Coffee Convos” podcast co-host went on to say that she hadn’t talked to Chris. “I don’t talk to him. He has been in and out of jail. I think what has transpired over the last few months between Chris and I has just been so eye-opening,” she explained.

“I know that people have a ton of questions. They’re wondering how I could have gone back to someone like that, and I think there’s a lot to be said that I haven’t really talked about a relationship where domestic violence is there, and where it’s just really toxic,” she added. “So I’m still trying to figure that stuff out. As of right now, I have no intentions of including Chris in anything, and so going into this one knowing that he won’t be there at all is really scary.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Leah Messer opened up about her past secrets, including getting addicted to painkillers. Meanwhile, Briana DeJesus gave DeVoin a chance, though it didn’t work out. He showed up late to Nova’s hair appointment. Furthermore, he left halfway, saying that he had to go to work.

The Neo depicter sports a new haircut when he’s dropped off by his girlfriend Alexandra Grant at his accommodation in Berlin, where the sci-fi movie has been filmed.

    Oct 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – Keanu Reeves has got a new haircut, likely for his role in “The Matrix 4”. The actor ditched his shaggy shoulder-length hairdo for a fresh buzz cut while he continues filming the new installment of the action sci-fi film franchise in Berlin, Germany.
The Neo depicter debuted his new look, which also includes a clean-shaven face, while he was dropped off by his girlfriend Alexandra Grant at his accommodation in Berlin on Sunday, October 25. The pair kissed outside his hotel as they bid goodbye after spending the weekend together at her rented home.
Reeves, who dressed in a black jacket on top of a gray T-shirt and washed-out jeans, made his way around to the driver’s window to see her for the last time before she left. She rolled down the window and blew her boyfriend a kiss farewell.

The two looked smitten to each other as they flashed a smile before the 56-year-old actor turned around and walked away from her car. He carried his belongings in a beige holdall and a red tote bag, while holding what looked like a hat in one hand and touching his head with his other hand.
“The Matrix 4” resumed production in the summer after it was temporarily shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. Back in June, the stars including Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Neil Patrick Harris were spotted arriving at Schonefeld Airport in Berlin, Germany. The Neo depicter was joined by his girlfriend Alexandra at the time and it appears that she has been staying in the country to accompany him since then.
“The Matrix 4” began production in San Francisco in February of this year before filming came to a halt in March due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The film was initially set for release on May 21, 2021, but was pushed back to April 1, 2022 due to this unfortunate circumstance. Earlier this month, Warner Bros. announced that the movie release was moved up to December 22, 2021.
Lana Wachowski returns as director, with Jada Pinkett Smith, Lambert Wilson and Daniel Bernhardt reprising their roles as Niobe, The Merovingian and Agent Johnson respectively. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff and Priyanka Chopra are among new additions to the cast.

    Oct 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – A new familiar face is heading to season 11 of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”. Kathy Hilton, the mother of Paris Hilton, is joining her sister Kyle Richards in the upcoming season of the Bravo reality series, according to PEOPLE.
TMZ further reported on Tuesday, October 27 that Kathy will appear on the series in the capacity of a “friend of the housewives” instead of a full-time cast member. In addition to her and Kyle, their sister Kim Richards also used to star on “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”. She appeared in the first five seasons of the show, though she only appears in a limited guest capacity now.
Reports of Kathy joining the show have been circulating around for some time. Earlier this week, Kyle reacted to the rumors in an interview with Us Weekly. Refusing to give away much of the matter, the 51-year-old said, “I don’t know. I cannot… I don’t know. I don’t know. We’ll see.”

So I’m hoping I’m not spilling anything. I think that’ll be interesting because it’s always interesting to have a family dynamic.”
As for Kathy, the 61-year-old was being cryptic when asked if she was joining the reality show back in September. Replying to a fan’s comment on Instagram which read, “@KyleRichards18 drum roll @kathyhilton next season,” the socialite wrote, “Your [sic] very kind. I am thinking?????”
Filming for season 11 of “RHOBH” will start soon with Kyle, Lisa Rinna and Erika Jayne returning. Crystal Kung Minkoff is also said to be joining the new season, marking the first Asian-American on the series.
Garcelle Beauvais was initially reported to be returning but later allegedly exited the series because she wasn’t satisfied with her current pay. “Garcelle wanted a big raise to be on the show. She didn’t get one, and so she’s walking. It’s not worth it to her,” said an insider earlier this month. Tori Spelling was allegedly said to replace her.
