  • 'The Bachelorette' Recap: Clare Crawley Has Shouting Match With One of the Men

    ABC

In a new episode of the long-running ABC show, Clare also disappoints the other men by having an intimate moment with Dale Moss while the other guys are waiting for her during a group date.

    Oct 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – “The Bachelorette” returned with a new episode on Tuesday, October 27 which saw Clare Crawley continuing her “journey to find everlasting love from careening off the rails.” However, it didn’t go without issues as Yosey kicked off the episode by confronting Clare over the “classless” dodgeball date, where some men went naked, in the last episode.
He told Clare that he sacrificed a lot to be on the show by going away from his daughter and family, adding that he was, in fact, ashamed to be associated with her. That unsurprisingly didn’t sit well with Clare and the two started to have a shouting match. Yosef then yelled across the yard, “She’s all yours, boys,” before getting in a car and leaving.
That left Clare completely shaken and host Chris Harrison tried to make her calm down. After taking a moment to get herself together, Clare finally returned for the Rose Ceremony. She gave the first rose to Dale Moss with other recipients being Zac C., Demar, Brendan, Jordan, Joe, Jay, Bennett, Eazy, Ben, Ed, Ivan, Kenny and Zach J.
The next morning, Chris H. revealed to the men that everyone would have dates this week as the first date card was a group date with Chasen, Jason, Jay, Riley, Eazy, Ed, Blake and Dale. Prior to that, former Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas came to visit Clare, who told her everything including Yosef drama and how Dale comforted her with a hug.

Meanwhile, the men were all excited for a date with Claire as they wanted to cheer her up following a rough night with Yosef. After waiting for hours, Clare finally arrived but it was already dark outside. Clare revealed they originally had a day date planned, but because it was already late, she decided to have a longer cocktail party instead. Eazy was a little bit disappointed but everyone did have a good time.
Later, Dale asked other men if it was okay for him to speak with Clare for five minutes and they reluctantly said yes. However, they were gone for an hour, prompting Eazy to wander off to find what they were doing which made them take this long. He then overheard them making out in her house, which made everyone angry. Seemingly not aware of the tension, Clare gave the group date rose to Dale and praised him for “stepping up and being bold.”
Zach J. got a solo date with Clare at the resort’s spa. Meanwhile, the other men suspected that Clare and Dale actually contacted each other before filming. Back on the date, things went well between Zach and Clare until they kissed. Zach got kind of aggressive by grabbing her which freaked Clare out.
It was time for a roast time which saw almost everyone taking jabs at Dale. It turned uncomfortable at some point and Clare confronted some guys over their roast jokes at the cocktail party. She appeared to try to get them tell her what Dale had been saying about her though the guys kept the conversations focused on themselves.
Saying that she didn’t get what she needed from them, Clare decided not to give the rose to anyone.

Interview: Jack McNamara on Stay Safe, a WhatsApp driven play.

Anything that we become so dependent on also opens up new vulnerabilities.

We are always fascinated to see how theatre makers push the boundaries of what a show can be, so when we saw the premise for Stay Safe, we really wanted to know more. It may be, to the best of our knowledge, the first play told over WhatsApp. The audience become members of a “parents” group chat for the evening, where an innocent question about a class teacher leads to unsettling revelations. At just one pound to take part, it seems an absolute bargin as well. With such a unique concept, we just couldn’t resist approaching the show’s writer, Jack McNamara, to find out more.
Stay Safe is being “performed” over WhatsApp, can you explain how that is going to work in reality? Will we be sitting watching our phones, waiting for the next ping to signify new message for an hour?
The audience members join a WhatsApp group and will watch as a group chat unfolds in real time on their phone. They become witness to an exchange that begins with all the usual tropes of Whatsapp (emojis, typos LOLs) but develops into something far more unsettling. The show lasts around 20 -30 mins max, so your neck shouldn’t hurt too much by the end of it.
And does this mean there are no “actors” involved in the traditional sense?
Yes there are characters that speak together, share files etc,  but these are not spoken/triggered by actors but by a very clever mysterious man named Joe who manages the whole experience remotely.
The storyline revolves around an “unsettling revelation” about a school teacher, without giving too much away, is there going to be a Halloween feel to things?
Yes, it begins with a seemingly innocent question about someone who was spotted in the school and then escalates into something more sinister, with tension mounting amongst the chatting parents. And while there will be a few of the recognisable horror motifs in there (strange houses, anonymous videos) the real horror that is revealed is something a bit closer to home for all us phone addicts.
What attracted you to using WhatsApp as opposed to any of the other message sharing platforms available?
I am fascinated by how these various platforms encourage and enable different ways of talking and self-presenting. What is striking about Whatsapp is that it tends to combine both the personal touch of email/text with the more outward statement making of social media. This felt like an interesting tension to explore in dialogue form as it is so different to how we communicate face to face. It’s this private public that fascinates me, and something I explored earlier in our postcard project Love From Cleethorpes.Use of Whatsapp has apparently soared since lockdown, and the fact that we find ourselves more and more used to relying on these platforms makes it ripe for exploration. Anything that we become so dependent on also opens up new vulnerabilities, and so I suppose it was only natural that my first foray into this medium found itself on the horror spectrum.  People have said that Whatsapp is already becoming a platform of the past with newer slicker mechanisms replacing it. That’s good with me, as it means we can work with Whatsapp here in a way that feels almost over familiar. With new platforms that come in I think they need to be given time to really embed themselves in the culture before we start opening them up. I like the idea that our use of Whatsapp is already a little retro!
Will the audience be getting involved, will they be replying in any way to messages?
No they will be observers. There is huge potential with this form of course to incorporate the audience. But this didn’t happen to be the story for that.
Has Covid-19 and lockdown been the reason you’ve tried these alternative formats to put on a show, or has this been something you’ve planned before this year?
We’ve always been interested in other forms. We had an epic podcast series PlacePrints planned long before Covid-19 came along, but once we released it looked like a response to the pandemic. But this situation, for all the toll it’s taken on us all, has definitely summoned many creative demons. Our postcard project was a direct result of me thinking about rural audiences being cut off from live theatre at this time and what we could do to reach them away from screens. And this project came about from me looking at Whatsapp exchanges over this time and sensing a new loneliness and urgency in the need to commune and connect.
Are you concerned that the drama and tension that would normally be present in a theatre space is going to be lost with the audience all sitting alone at home?
We are working with a completely different type of tension. It is in no way trying to replicate a live theatre tension. It works with the solitude of the audience member, the miniature form of the exchange, the strange detachment of receiving information through your phone. With any theatrical environment, you have to work smartly with the elements available to you, and try and turn them to your advantage.
So you’ve done postcards and WhatsApp; any other such unique ideas you’re currently working on?
Yes, lots. As mentioned, this time has expanded our horizons vastly. First off the bat is an alternative Christmas project that will be announced very soon. But every platform is ripe for exploring at the moment. In addition to slick digital stuff I find myself increasingly drawn to the clunkier more analogue forms. I’m yearning for a more tactile time, and to work with methods of communication that are almost extinct. Perhaps we should do a telegram play next but sent as an actual telegram.
    ====================================
Our thanks to Jack for his time to tell us about Stay Safe. The play is part of the Signal Fires, a nationwide project inspired by one of the original forms of theatre – storytelling around a fire.
Stay Safe is performing from Thursday 29 October – Saturday 31 October, with start times of 8pm, 9pm, 10pm plus midnight on Saturday. Tickets are just one pound. More

  • Adam Sandler Looks Back at Trouble Working With His Children in 'Hubie Halloween'

    WENN/Avalon

When speaking to Drew Barrymore on her daytime talk show, the ‘Uncut Gems’ star admits that his two daughters made it look like he forced them to do take part in his Netflix comedy.

    Oct 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Adam Sandler will think twice about casting his children in future movie projects because they wanted to go home after less than two hours on the set of “Hubie Halloween”.
The actor’s daughters Sunny, 11, and Sadie, 14, badgered their dad for a year to let them feature in the Netflix comedy, but when it came time to shoot, they were less than prepared to actually put in the work.
“You know, you would think the kids would be very excited… to be in a movie…,” Sandler told his pal Drew Barrymore on her daytime talk show.
“If they get to set at 8am, I’d say around 9.20am I’m hearing, ‘How much more? Please let me leave!’ They make it look like I’m forcing them to do it,” he remarked.
“Meanwhile, they were asking me the whole d**n year, ‘Can I be in your next movie, Daddy?'”

Sandler has long had Sadie and Sunny make cameos in his previous projects, but working with the youngsters this time around proved to be more stressful than ever, because they were never ready for call time.
“I hide them out in my trailer, they hang out, they got their friends (sic)… Then I knock on the door and say, ‘They (filmmakers) are ready. Let’s go.’ Then they’re like, ‘They’re ready?’ They always play crazy, like they didn’t know they were shooting a movie,” he grumbled.
“I’m like, ‘You don’t have your makeup on?’ They’re like, ‘I’ll do it now!'”
Sadie and Sunny aren’t the only loved ones to join Sandler onscreen in “Hubie Halloween” – his real-life wife Jackie also features as news reporter Tracy Phillips.

  • Conan O'Brien Slams Burglar Stealing Clapperboard From Talk Show's Set: 'That's the Lowest'

    Instagram

The 57-year-old comedian laments the robbery that has hit the makeshift set of his late night talk show ‘CONAN’ at the Coronet nightclub, saying, ‘I can’t think of anything lower.’

    Oct 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Conan O’Brien could not believe the boldness of those robbing the makeshift set of “CONAN”. When sharing with viewers that a few laptops and a clapperboard had gone missing from the temporary set at Largo at the Coronet Theater, the late night talk show host called the move made by the burglar “the lowest.”
The 57-year-old opened up about the burglary in the Monday, October 26 episode of “CONAN”. Speaking to field producer Jason Chillemi, he went into details about what was stolen. Upon learning that the culprit had even taken a slate, he commented, “They took that, that’s the lowest. I can’t think of anything lower. Okay, the laptops – fine. [But] you took the slate? That’s crazy.”
Wondering why the burglar took the device used to mark scenes and takes, Conan asked, “What’s a robber gonna do with this thing.” He went on to state, “It’s what kids use, it’s what 16-year-olds use to make a student film, probably in Hollywood they’re on the street, they’re everywhere, and he took it. It’s ridiculous.”

Before pointing out the ridiculousness of the robbery, Conan noted that he set up his show at the West Hollywood venue since he wanted to help the place which was affected by the coronavirus pandemic. “Seemed like a nice thing to do,” he explained. “What happens? We get here this morning and we find out that someone broke into our little theater and took some of our equipment.”
“We got robbed, Andy, Robbed! And whoever broke in here had to stare at 350 cardboard cutouts of exuberant fans in the eyes and say, ‘Hey, don’t mind me. I’m going to steal some s**t,’ ” Conan told fellow comedian Andy Richter as he made a reference to the fake audience set up by the show’s crew in the studio.

Nonetheless, Conan took the incident lightheartedly. “What happened to us? We’ve become this garage band that drives around. We’ve got our van and we parked it in an alley, and someone broke in and took our amps. What is that? This doesn’t happen to the other talk show hosts,” he quipped while laughing. “Man, just for the laugh alone, maybe it’s worth it.”

  • 'Borat' Sequel Dodges Lawsuit Filed by Holocaust Survivor's Family

    Amazon Studios

After a judge in Georgia rejected the legal action, a lawyer for Amazon’s streaming service declares, ‘Sacha Baron Cohen was deeply grateful for the opportunity to work with Judith Dim Evans.’

    Oct 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – A lawsuit filed by the estate of holocaust survivor Judith Dim Evans against “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” has been dismissed.
Evans, who died this summer, was approached to talk about the Holocaust for what she thought was a serious documentary, with her conversation filmed in a synagogue in Georgia on January 29. However, she later discovered it was to be used in Sacha Baron Cohen’s sequel, “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan”.
“Upon learning after giving the interview that the movie was actually a comedy intended to mock the Holocaust and Jewish culture, Ms. Evans was horrified and upset,” the lawsuit filed against Amazon Prime Video and Oak Springs Productions read.

After the lawsuit was filed in Georgia by Dim Evans’ daughter Michelle Dim St. Pierre, a judge in the state rejected it. St. Pierre then withdrew the lawsuit.
Russell Smith, the lawyer for Amazon’s streaming service, said in a statement following the rejection, “The lawsuit was dismissed, unconditionally. The lawsuit is over. Sacha Baron Cohen was deeply grateful for the opportunity to work with Judith Dim Evans, whose compassion and courage as a Holocaust survivor has touched the hearts of millions of people who have seen the film.”
“Judith’s life is a powerful rebuke to those who deny the Holocaust, and with this film and his activism, Sacha Baron Cohen will continue his advocacy to combat Holocaust denial around the world.”
“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” was released on October 23 on Prime Video. It arrived more than a decade after the first movie, which debuted in 2006.

  • Hugh Grant's Idea for 'Notting Hill' Sequel Will Ruin the Happy Ending

    Polygram Filmed Entertainment

The actor, best known for his roles in 1990s-2000s romantic comedies, says he’s willing to do a sequel of the 1999 movie to prove that happy endings are a ‘terrible lie.’

    Oct 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Hugh Grant isn’t buying his character’s picture-perfect marriage in “Notting Hill”. Having starred in a number of romantic comedies from 1990s until 2000s, the actor believes that the happy ending in the 1999 film is not really the end for the fictional couple played by him and Julia Roberts.
In a Q&A session for his new miniseries “The Undoing”, the 60-year-old revealed what it would take for him to star in a follow-up to the classic movie. “I would like to do a sequel to one of my own romantic comedies that shows what happened after those films ended,” he said. “Really, to prove the terrible lie that they all were, that it was a happy ending.”
Sharing his idea for the supposed sequel, the British actor continued with a laugh, “I’d like to do me and Julia and the hideous divorce that’s ensued with really expensive lawyers, children involved in [a] tug of love, floods of tears. Psychologically scarred forever.” He added, “I’d love to do that film.”

In “Notting Hill”, a chance encounter between William Thacker (Grant), a book store owner in Notting Hill, London, and Hollywood actress Anna Scott (Roberts) leads to an unlikely romance between the two. Complications due to her fame and her unresolved relationship tear them apart, before he makes one last attempt to profess his love for her in public. The pair end up happily married with a baby on the way.
Grant is also known for his lead roles in romantic comedies such as “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, “Two Weeks Notice”, “Love Actually” and “Music and Lyrics”. In 2019, during The Hollywood Reporter’s drama actor roundtable, he was asked whether he had an “inferiority complex” from always starring in romantic comedies.
“Well, yes, but less now because I’ve gotten too old and ugly and fat to do them anymore,” he admitted, poking fun at himself, “so now I’ve done other things, and I’ve got marginally less self-hatred.”

    The CW

The new suit is expected to appear in the third episode of the new season as Ryan Wilder will sport Kate Kane’s (Ruby Rose) suit in the first two episodes until she grows into her newfound role as Batwoman.

    Oct 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – The CW’s “Batwoman” has revealed two first-look images of Javicia Leslie’s character Ryan Wilder. Released on Monday, October 26 on the show’s official social media accounts, the said pictures see Javicia donning a new Batsuit which is specially designed for her character.
In the pictures, Javicia’s Ryan can be seen flaunting her natural curly hair which has red streaks. She also sports red gauntlets over the forearms and shorter boots. Other noticeable new additions in the new suit are the new belt with the bat logo and the new material which give stronger silhoutte to the DC superhero.

“The Batsuit was conceptualized by Batwoman costume designer Maya Mani and created by Ocean Drive Leather, the wig created by Janice Workman and Takisha Sturdivant, and makeup styled by Cory Roberts,” writes Javicia, who is the first black actress to play the role, on her Instagram account.

In a new statement, Javicia also reveals that the new suit is exactly what she wants for her character. “I love the fact that Ryan is becoming her own Batwoman – it’s her style, her swag, and her moment,” she says. “I felt it was important that viewers could tell by the silhouette that Batwoman was a black girl. With the form-fitting suit and beautiful Afro, we definitely nailed it!”
“Ryan’s journey starts from a place of ‘What can this Batsuit do for me?’ But it’s not long before she realizes the power of its symbol and what it can do for everyone else in Gotham City,” executive producer Caroline Dries further details Batwoman’s new look. “As Ryan embraces everything that makes her special, she adjusts the suit to fit her physically and figuratively.”
She goes on to say, “This meant creating a new body design and new cowl that was undeniably a statement that screamed ‘powerful.’ Maya Mani sent me her drawings and I loved it. The wig was something we never perfected in season one, and Janice Workman crushed it with this new take. Javicia and I saw various prototypes of styles and red ombres, and at one point we were trading our own iPad-doodled versions. Janice translated that into what we are looking at now. When I see it, I smile. It makes me feel inspired.”
The new suit is expected to appear in the third episode of the show’s upcoming season 2. Ryan will sport Kate Kane’s (Ruby Rose) suit in the first two episodes of the season as she grows into her newfound role as Batwoman.
The sophomore season of “Batwoman” is set to premiere on The CW in January 2021.
