  • This 'Love Actually' Star Slams Beloved Movie as 'Cheesy and Sexist' and Calls Out Hugh Grant

    Universal Pictures

Lulu Popplewell who starred as Emma Thompson’s onscreen daughter in the classic romcom is not a fan of the movie and reveals her unpleasant experience of working with Hugh Grant.

    Oct 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – The actress who played Emma Thompson’s daughter in beloved 2003 movie “Love Actually” has slammed the film as “cheesy and sexist.”
Lulu Popplewell, who is now 29, is not a fan, calling the star-studded picture a “s**t film” in a new podcast interview.
The comedian was asked about her memories of portraying schoolgirl Daisy in the project during an appearance on the “Almost Famous” podcast, and didn’t hold back on what she thought of director Richard Curtis’ movie.
“Softly be it spoken I think it’s a s**t film,” she said. “I think it’s aged badly. All the women in it are sort of passive objects. I think that there was an article describing them as passive objects to be acquired.”

“On re-watching it’s not great. You also have to remember that he (Curtis) was writing in the context of the time. I mean, I don’t know how he excuses more recent work, but it was in 2003.”
The grown-up child star added, “It is also not for me because I don’t like cheese. I’m glad people like it.”
She also recalled her first scene with Hugh Grant, who made it very clear he wasn’t a fan of working with kids.
“He said, ‘Oh God, do I have to speak to her? I hate children,’ which I thought was really funny.”
Hugh Grant did feel baffled by the ongoing popularity of “Love Actually” although he didn’t say anything negative about the romcom. “I don’t know why ‘Love Actually’ is still so popular,” he said in a 2018 interview. “Everyone watches it at Christmas, which is nice.”

  • Idris Elba's Movie Filming Shut Down Again Due to New Covid-19 Scare

    WENN

The filming of ‘The Harder They Fall’ is stopped for the second time only a few weeks after resuming production following a break in March when Idris Elba star tested positive for the killer virus.

    Oct 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – The Netflix western that was forced to shut down in March (20) when leading man Idris Elba tested positive for COVID-19 has halted filming again following another health scare.
Production on “The Harder They Fall”, which also features Regina King, has stopped after an actor tested positive for the coronavirus, according to Deadline.
Filming on the project resumed in New Mexico last month (Sep20) and shut down on Thursday (15Oct20).
“The Harder They Fall” isn’t the only major production, which has been forced to shut down in recent weeks due to a positive test – “The Batman” and “Jurassic World: Dominion” are among the blockbusters forced to halt filming since the coronavirus restrictions were lifted and movie projects were able to start up again.

Elba was among the first Hollywood stars to publicly reveal he had contracted COVID-19, prompting producers to shut down filming as the Brit and his wife, Sabrina Dhowre Elba, self-isolated.
As Hollywood is struggling to adapt to post-coronavirus world since lockdown was first imposed earlier this year, filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, Judd Apatow, Jon Chu, Sofia Coppola, Alfonso Cuaron, Patty Jenkins, and Michael Bay recently signed an open letter pleading with the congress to help bail out cinemas hit by the crisis.
Music industry and Broadway have also been impacted by pandemic. Numerous musicians are forced to put their tours on hold and delays their new music.
Similarly on the Great White Way, the productions were either halted or called off as the industry was brought to a standstill following lockdown. While many are determined to return to stage during the re-opening next year, some like “Frozen”, “Hangmen”, and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” have already announced they ended for good.

  • Robin Givens Scared of Reliving Abusive Marriage in Mike Tyson Biopic

    Instagram

The former ‘Forgive or Forget’ host ‘felt the world was crumbling again’ when her former husband announced plan to bring his life story to the big screen.

    Oct 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Robin Givens felt sick to her stomach after learning Jamie Foxx was to play her ex-husband, Mike Tyson, in a new biopic.
The actress ended her eight-month marriage to the former professional boxer in 1988, citing spousal abuse as the cause of their highly contentious and public divorce, and she now admits she was afraid to relive her violent past onscreen when she initially heard about the film over the summer (Jun20).
“I felt this drop in the pit of my stomach and was like, ‘Oh no, here we go again,’ ” Robin tells People. “I felt like the world was crumbling again.”
The 55-year-old mother-of-two insists the terror didn’t end after the divorce as Tyson targeted her in the media by bad-mouthing her in his “Undisputed Truth” memoir and accompanying podcast of the same name in 2012 when he falsely accused her of sleeping with Brad Pitt during their marriage.
“I remember my ex-husband calling up and saying, ‘I’ve decided I’m not going to kill you. I’m going to make your life so miserable you’re going to slit your own throat and die,’ ” she recalls. “The marriage was eight months of my life and yet he’s still saying slanderous things on his podcast. He’s not physically hitting me anymore, but it hurts almost as much.”

Robin’s attorney send out a cease and desist letter in September (20) in an effort to make sure her doesn’t appear in the upcoming “Tyson” film, prompting the filmmakers to assure her she wouldn’t feature in the biopic, and she now feels empowered that her bid to remove herself from the movie was successful.
“I’m more than relieved,” says Givens. “I felt like I could stand up now as opposed to before.”
“Before I couldn’t stand up, and maybe it’s because the world has changed. I mean, we’re living in a different world now; 2020 is a different time, I think, for women. Now I’m just trying to really give a voice to women that don’t have a voice.”
Robin also spends time volunteering in women’s shelters and on the National Domestic Violence Hotline, talking to victims and helping other domestic violence survivors heal.
“My story was very public, but when I speak to women and I sit in shelters and I hold children, I realise that the details of our stories are the same,” she shares. “My story is your story. Your story is my story.”

Interview: Pepa Duarte cooks up a show with Eating Myself

A powerful and vulnerable female exploration about food, the kitchen, and the act of nurturing ourselves within the construction of a woman’s identity in Peruvian society.

Quite the quote for Eating Myself, the new show from writer and performer Pepa Duarte, which is heading to the Golden Goose for five nights from 10 November. So good a quote so we wanted to know more. So ahead of the show’s run, we caught up with Pepa to talk cooking, kickstarter and Peruvian cuisine.
That’s quite a show description! Whilst it talks of Peruvian society, is the show just as relevant for a London and UK audience?
The show has Latin American flavours, but it speaks about something every culture has experienced – the relationship between cooking and caring, and the presence or absence of family around the table.
Are there obvious similarities in how a woman’s identity is perceived in both the UK and Peru?
Yes, definitely. Women all over the world grow up under the pressure of beauty standards and gender stereotypes. Gender inequality is a reality here and everywhere and the show explores how it shapes women’s identity all throughout their lives.
Is food an important part of Peruvian culture?
Peru is extremely proud of its cuisine. It makes us forget everything else, which can be problematic, but it reflects the diversity of our land and traditions. There’s not much international cuisine in the country but there is a lot of fusion with cultures that came to Peru a long time ago; Japanese, Chinese, African. Peruvians are expected to know how to eat and cook. And that wasn’t my case.
What made you decide to write a show around food and the kitchen?
I have always had a conflictive relationship with food, and I thought my struggle had to do with the sexist society I grew up in. But when I discovered cooking and eating meant so much more than I ever imagined, I realised I needed to write this play. I usually make theatre when I have an idea that I can’t get out of my head.
Eating Myself was meant to be part of BAC’s Homegrown season in March, but for obvious reasons was cancelled. How did that effect you and the progress of the show?
It was my first time sharing a full length play in London so I was of course, sad and discouraged. But fortunately our rehearsal process was almost finished so all the set, costume, music and other things were ready to go. I’m really glad Golden Goose Theatre has programmed us, and having had the time to settle in our decisions for the show has actually beenpretty helpful.
Are we right in thinking there will be actual cooking going on during the show?
You are right! It starts with cooking and finishes when the soup is ready!
You initially raised funds for the show via Kickstarter; was that a positive experience that you would consider again? One of the Kickstarter rewards was a cooked meal: did that ever happen or was it cancelled due to lockdown?
I think it was a great way to connect with the people that were interested in the show. Thankfully it happened in January, so we cooked a Peruvian dinner for everyone and got to share our vision for the play with friends and future audience. Me and Sergio Maggiolo (director) ran a workshop about devising for professional actors as part of the campaign too. I don’t think this will be my last fundraising campaign!
And finally, what do you hope the audience will take away with them from your show?
I really hope the audience will reflect on their own upbringing and the importance of the people they call ‘family’ in their lives. Hopefully our time in the theatre, especially in these times, will be a way for them to remember the ones they love and find ways to reconnect with them.

Thanks to Pepa for taking time out of her preparations to chat to us.
Eating Myself will be cooking on stage at the newly opened Golden Goose Theatre from 10 to 14 November, tickets are available direct from the venue via the button below. More

  • Kris Jenner Blames Social Media for the 2021 Ending of 'KUWTK'

    E!

The 64-year-old self-proclaimed momager shares that the decision to end her and her family’s long-running E! show after 14 years is just them trying to adjust to the world that has changed.

    Oct 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Kris Jenner thinks that social media plays a big role in the decision to end “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” in 2021. The self-proclaimed momage details the matter in the new issue of WWD’s special “Beauty Inc.” in which she alludes that they’re just adjusting to the world that has changed.
“When we first started, there was no Instagram or Snapchat or other social media platforms,” Kris explained. “The world has changed. Now there are so many, the viewer doesn’t have to wait three or four months to see an episode. We can give them all of the information anyone would ever want to know in real time.”
The mom of Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Rob Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner went on to say, “Social media is the fastest and most controlled way to get the message out. The consumer gets to see the products the girls are working on in real time, and they know we’re going to get it out the door pretty quickly. The girls want them to be part of the journey to keep them engaged.”

Ending the show after 14 years is a fact that is hard to accept for the Kardashian-Jenner family. Kim previously revealed that she went emotional for “all weekend” after announcing the heartbreaking news. “Oh, it was honestly the most emotional day,” Kim admitted in a new interview for Grazia magazine. “The tears. I mean, I think I was crying all weekend. I’ll probably get emotional now on the phone. It was just a really emotional decision.”
Of the series, the wife of Kanye West said, “This was a dream of all of ours. We never imagined we would get onto season two. Now we’re on twenty. Sometimes we just need a break. It’s really simple.”
Kim announced the end of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” via Instagram on Tuesday, September 8, revealing the show, which debuted on E! in 2007, will shut down after two more seasons. Addressing fans, Kim said, “It is with heavy hearts that we’ve made the difficult decision as a family to say goodbye to ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’.”
In the post, the SKIMS founder also thanked producer Ryan Seacrest and his E! team for “documenting our lives.” She wrote, “Our last season will air early next year in 2021. Without ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am so incredibly grateful to everyone who has watched and supported me and my family these past 14 incredible years. This show made us who we are and I will be forever in debt to everyone who played a role in shaping our careers and changing our lives forever.”
