    WENN/Avalon

The limited series, which is an adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel, has been axed after delayed start dates forced the ‘Black Panther’ actress to abandon the project.
    Oct 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira’s “Americanah” series has become the latest victim of the COVID-19 shutdown. It has been reported that the series is not moving forward on HBO Max.
The limited series, an adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel, was announced last year, with Nyong’o set to star and her “Black Panther” castmate on board as writer and showrunner.
However, due to the delayed start dates related to the coronavirus pandemic, Nyong’o has been forced to abandon the project due to a scheduling conflict. She had been linked to the project since 2014.

The show previously received a 10-episode straight-to-series order from HBO. The network even had cast actors for the project, which is based on Adichie’s novel of the same name. Among those who where originally planned to star in the series were Uzo Aduba, Corey Hawkins, Zackary Momoh and Tireni Oyenusi.

“Americanah” follows a young, beautiful, self-assured woman named Ifemelu, who was planned to be played by Nyong’O, raised in Nigeria. The teenager falls in love with her classmate Obinze. However, since they’re living in a military-ruled country, they are separated apart with Ifemelu heading for America, where she faced the hurt thruth for the first time as a black person.
The HBO Max show is the latest project to be axed due to the global health crisis – shows like “GLOW” and “On Becoming a God in Central Florida” have also been scrapped due to scheduling and ongoing health and safety issues.

  • Sony Responds to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Casting Rumors for 'Spider-Man 3'

    Columbia Pictures

It’s reported that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man will team up with previous iterations of the web-crawler to fight ‘many of their villains from the past, as well as new ones.’
    Oct 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – Fans hoping to see multiple Spider-Man in the upcoming movie may need to calm down their excitement. Following reports that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield may return as the web-crawler in “Spider-Man 3” starring Tom Holland, Sony Pictures has said that they were nothing more than just rambling rumors.
“Those rumored castings are not confirmed,” a representative for the studio tells ET Canada when asked about Maguire and Garfield’s possible appearances in the “Spider-Man: Far From Home” sequel. The statement, however, doesn’t sound like a straight denial.
Words spread starting earlier this month that Holland, Maguire and Garfield will be uniting in the upcoming Spider-Man movie that may feature multiverse storyline. According to FandomWire, “Sony and Marvel are still finalizing a version of the script that features all three Spider-Men tackling many of their villains from the past, as well as new ones.”
As for the “villains from the past” that were mentioned in the supposed spoiler, they reportedly include Jamie Foxx’s Electro as well as Venom (Tom Hardy), Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and Green Goblin. We Got This Covered additionally reported that Kraven the Hunter and Scorpion would be added to the mix.

With Maguire and Garfield castings not being confirmed, the reports about the said villains’ appearances should be taken with a grain of salt as well. However, Foxx previously seemed to let the cat out of the bag as he shared a screenshot of an article about his casting news.
He wrote in the caption of the now-deleted post, “Tell Spidey let’s run it back!… super excited to [be] part of the new marvel Spider-Man new installment…” The 52-year-old star additionally revealed that his villainous character will get a new look for the upcoming Spider-Man movie. “can’t wait for y’all to check the new one. And I won’t be blue in this one!! But a thousand percent bada**!!!” so he teased.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is also reported to appear in the film and fill in a mentor role that was previously occupied by Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in “Far From Home”. With his own upcoming movie “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” being set to be released after “Spider-Man 3”, it is believed that he will make way for the multiverse storyline in “Spider-Man 3”.
“Spider-Man 3” has kicked off production earlier this week in New York, according to filming notices plastered in the city. The shooting announcements for “Serenity Now”, the working title of the movie, revealed that they already filmed on October 14.

  • Matt Damon Makes Fun of Ben Affleck Over Batman Role: Robert Pattinson Took Your Job

In an Instagram video, Ben tells his fellow actor, ‘Tell something they’re interested in like, ‘Hey, come see me Jason Bourne… Batman and…,’ ‘ prompting the latter to ask, ‘Robert Pattinson’s coming?’
    Oct 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ben Affleck is no longer Batman, and Matt Damon apparently sees this fact as an opportunity to troll his fellow actor. They recently shared a video in partnership with Omaze to promote a charity contest to benefit the Eastern Congo Initiative and Water.org, and Matt took the time to make fun of Ben for losing his Batman role to Robert Pattinson.
In the short clip, Ben and Matt were going back and forth over how they should promote the contest and at one point, the “Argo” star said, “Tell something they’re interested in like, ‘Hey, come see me Jason Bourne… Batman and…’ ” Before Ben could finish his sentence, Matt interrupted, “Robert Pattinson’s coming?”
Hitting back, Ben said, “No. Jeremy Renner will be there, though,” making a reference to the fact that “The Avengers” actor played the lead role in “The Bourne Legacy”. Matt did not let himself lose just like that and pointed out, “Jeremy Renner did not play Jason Bourne. He expanded the Bourne universe.” He added, “Pattinson took your job.”

Ben originally planned a Batman movie that he wrote, directed and starred in during “Justice League” days, but he eventually stepped back in 2017 and the project was taken over by Matt Reeves. Meanwhile, Ben ultimately walked away from the movie completely due to lack of passion, personal problems and the failures of “Justice League”. Robert was later cast to take over the role from the 48-year-old and the movie is now set to be released in April 2022.
Production for the movie was recently put on hold after the “Twilight” star tested positive for coronavirus. Fortunately, he has since returned to the movie set as he was photographed filming a funeral scene at the St. George’s Hall in Liverpool, England.

  • Bill Nighy Signed on for Remake of Akira Kurosawa's Classic Movie

    WENN

The ‘Shaun of the Dead’ actor has been officially tapped to play a major role in the upcoming English-language adaptation of the 1952 critically-lauded movie ‘Ikiru’.
    Oct 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – Bill Nighy is to star in a Kazuo Ishiguro penned English-language remake of Akira Kurosawa’s classic 1952 movie “Ikiru”.
The movie, titled “Living”, will be directed by South African filmmaker Oliver Hermanus and also star Aimee Lou Wood.
The “Remains of the Day” author has written the script for the remake, which like the original follows a civil servant who, alongside a young co-worker, searches for more meaning in life after discovering he has a terminal illness.

In a press release announcing the new film, Ishiguro says, “I believe this story can speak to the many of us obliged to spend long hours each day anchored to desks and screens – all the more so in this era of Covid – struggling to see what our individual contributions can possibly amount to within the broader picture.”
Hermanus adds, “At the heart of Living is the message that one’s purpose, one’s footprint can be incremental, slight and somewhat unnoticeable in the grand scheme of things. But that these attainable efforts to help others and be a force of good in the world are what life and living is about. I think the world could use more stories like this, perhaps now more than ever before.”
“Ikiru” was partly inspired by Leo Tolstoy’s 1886 novella “The Death of Ivan Ilyich” and won a host of awards after its 1952 release, including a special prize at the Berlin Film Festival in 1954. It has been listed among the greatest films of all time.
The new remake will begin shooting on location in the U.K. next spring (21).

  • Tamar Braxton Accuses Production of Backstabbing Her in New 'Get Ya Life' Clip

    WENN/FayesVision

The singer also shares that she ‘wanted to show all my flaws and be open and honest about my battles’ and that she feels ‘the responsible to help those who don’t know how to get to the other side.’
    Oct 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – An upcoming episode of “Tamar Braxton: Get Ya Life” seemingly will be intense. In a new clip obtained by theJasmineBRAND, the R&B singer has a heated argument with the production before walking off the set during an interview.
In the video, Tamar is seen getting ready for an exit interview. Her makeup artist encourages her and tells her that she will get this, saying, “I know you can. It’s only some bulls**t that you know you gotta work through. You got it.”
Later, the interview starts with one of the production team members asking her, “What is that like to have the cameras, to have the crew at your house, to have all of that in your life?” Instead of answering the question, Tamar only shakes her head. The production then changes the question, asking about her bond with her fans. Still, Tamar refuses to reply as she only shakes her head.
The production team member, whose name is apparently Michael, then tells her to give something for him to work with. To that, Tamar hits back, “Don’t say that. Don’t. See, Michael, don’t say that. don’t say that. Don’t say, ‘Give me a little bit of you to work with,’ like I haven’t been showing up for the past six weeks and doing my job.”

She then accuses the WEtv show production of backstabbing her. “You all stabbed me in the back. It wasn’t that way, so let’s not do that,” she alleged. She doesn’t finish her words because she abruptly leaves the set. Tamar, however, returns after her lawyer encourages her to do so as he takes control of the questions.
“I wanted to do a show specifically about myself because I felt that it wasn’t anyone I could identify with when, you know, I was going through the most difficult transition of my life. So, I wanted to do a show where it’s about enpowering yourself and challenging yourself. Having it all and then being broke and broken and learning to rely on yourself and start to trust other people because I have been in a situation where it has been difficult to trust people including myself,” Tamar then explains.

She continues, “So I wanted to show all my flaws and be open and honest about my battles. I don’t feel like I was supposed to make it on the other side and I did. And because I did, I feel the responsible to help those who don’t know how to get to the other side. So, that’s why I’m here.”
Tamar has been going through a lot in the past few months following her suicide attempt in July. She is also in a family drama following her messy split from David Adefeso, who is beefing with her sister Toni Braxton.

  • Sacha Baron Cohen Sued by Holocaust Survivor Over Interview in 'Borat' Sequel

    WENN

The Ali G actor who co-produced and co-wrote the upcoming ‘Borat Subsequent Movie Film’ is facing a lawsuit from the family of a Holocaust survivor interviewed for the flick.
    Oct 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – The creators of Sacha Baron Cohen’s Kazakhstani alter-ego Borat have been sued by the estate of holocaust survivor Judith Dim Evans.
Evans, who died this summer (20), was approached to talk about the Holocaust for what she thought was a serious documentary, with her conversation filmed in a synagogue in Georgia on 29 January. However, she later discovered it was to be used in Cohen’s film “Borat Subsequent Movie Film: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan”.
“Upon learning after giving the interview that the movie was actually a comedy intended to mock the Holocaust and Jewish culture, Ms. Evans was horrified and upset,” the lawsuit filed against Amazon Prime and Oak Springs Productions reads.
“Had Ms. Evans been informed about the true nature of the film and purpose for the interview, she would not have agreed to participate in the interview.”

Adam Hoipkemier, who is representing Evans’ estate in the lawsuit, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, that while he hasn’t seen the film, which is set to premiere on 23 October on Amazon Prime, he knows Evans’ interview will be included in the final cut.
Evans’ daughter, Michelle Dim St. Pierre, who filed the lawsuit as an executor of her mother’s estate, is asking for her scene to be removed from the film and asking for damages of around $75,000 (£59,000).
Directed by Jason Woliner, the new Borat movie will see Sacha Baron Cohen don various disguises as the hapless reporter attempts to evade those who recognise him from his previous visit to the USA.
He pulls off a series of stunts including a prank on U.S. Vice President Mike Pence by dressing up as American leader Donald Trump and attending an official event.

  • 'The Batman' Will Continue Filming in Liverpool Despite the City Entering 'Tier 3' Lockdown

    Twitter

The production for Robert Pattinson-starring superhero movie in Liverpool will not be affected by the new stringent Covid-19 restrictions issued by the city amid the never-ending pandemic.
    Oct 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – “The Batman” will continue shooting in Liverpool, England despite the city being hit by new stringent Covid-19 restrictions on Wednesday (14Oct20).
U.K. government officials announced that the city and surrounding region would be the first to be put in ‘Tier 3′ restrictions – the strictest level – on Monday, meaning that many pubs and leisure businesses would shortly be shuttered, and household mixing banned.
However, Liverpool City Council officials have now announced that Matt Reeves’ movie, which stars Robert Pattinson in the title role, will be able to continue filming.

“The new restrictions in Liverpool will not impact on filming in the city,” a spokesman for the council told Sky News. “The Film Office is working closely with every single production to ensure Covid-safe measures are in place and are being adhered to.”
Work on the new superhero movie was halted in March when the U.K. originally went into a Covid-19 lockdown, and production was delayed by two weeks last month when a crew member, reportedly Pattinson, tested positive for the virus.
It is now due for release in March 2022.
“The Batman” release date has been pushed back by Warner Brothers. The Caped Crusader reboot was originally set for October 1, 2021 but forced to give up the date to make a room for the studio’s sci-fi remake “Dune” from director Denis Villeneuve. The DC superhero flick is now scheduled to hit theaters across the states on March 4, 2022.

  • Dylan O'Brien: 'Maze Runner' Accident Makes Me Uneasy About Doing My Own Movie Stunts

    WENN

The ‘Deepwater Horizon’ actor opens up about the lingering fears he suffered following the on-set accident during the filming of ‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ in 2016.
    Oct 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actor Dylan O’Brien suffers anxiety on film sets whenever he’s part of a stunt after an accident on the set of the third “Maze Runner” movie left him with severe injuries.
The 29 year old underwent months of recovery after he was hospitalised with concussion, a facial fracture, and lacerations when a motorbike stunt went wrong while he was filming “Maze Runner: The Death Cure” in 2016, and he admits the accident has left him with fears he’s not sure he’ll ever be able to shake.
“Whenever I’m putting on a rig (for stunt work), I’m vetting every piece of that rig and much more,” he tells Variety. “Even to this day, if I’m on set and I’m doing a stunt, if I’m in a rig, if there’s some action going on, I am slightly irritable.”

“There is a degree of anxiety in me that I don’t think there’s ever not going to be.”
But O’Brien admits the accident and his subsequent recovery made him realise what was important in life.
“I had friends that were so dear to me that I had felt that I had neglected for years and all of a sudden, it was very important to me to nurture those relationships and not lose them,” he adds. “I think that it absolutely completely rewires and restructures the way you see your life and what you deem important.”
At the time, Dylan feared his career was over, telling the San Francisco Chronicle, “I had a severe concussion and brain trauma. I basically broke this whole side of my face. I had to have facial reconstructive surgery. Got plates in there now. I thought that was just it, that my face was never gonna look the same again. I now look at the experience as having gotten away really luckily. A, just walking away from it. And B, getting this great doctor who took care of me and really fixed me up.”
