  • Mel Gibson's New Film 'Fatman' Met With Backlash Over His Anti-Semitism and Domestic Abuse

    Saban Films

People are bringing up anti-semitic allegations against the ‘Braveheart’ star as well as his past abusive relationship with Oksana Grigorieva after learning that he’ll play Santa Claus in his upcoming film.
    Oct 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Mel Gibson’s Santa Claus movie is not as jolly as the popular fictional figure is known to be, but things will only look bleaker for “Fatman” from here. The actor’s casting in the film has been met with backlash over his past history of anti-semitism and domestic abuse.
The criticism has arisen after a trailer for the dark comedy movie, in which the 64-year-old plays an unorthodox Santa Claus, was released on Wednesday, October 7. Many people have taken to Twitter to express their dismay at his casting and vow that they won’t watch the film.
“Reminder that Mel Gibson is an antisemitic, anti-Black bigot who physically assaulted his girlfriend,” one person detailed the allegations against Gibson. “He blamed Jews for ‘all the wars in the world.’ He called Winona Ryder an ‘oven dodger.’ Santa Claus doesn’t exist. Gibson’s career renaissance shouldn’t either.”
“When people say ‘cancel culture is real,’ remind them of the time that raging misogynist and anti-Semite Mel Gibson got paid millions of dollars to play Santa Claus,” another critic wrote. An angry user tweeted, “kinda sucks that mel gibson can trade on his 80s reputation for camp skipping over the fact that he’s a deranged anti-semitie.”

“They let Mel Gibson make movies despite his homophobic & anti-semitic rants,” a fourth person remarked. Another was baffled, “Just why even the f**k was this made and why are we still letting Mel Gibson have a career after his bulls**t.” Someone else declared, “I seem to remember Mel Gibson telling his girlfriend he hopes she gets raped by a pack of ‘N*ggers.’ I won’t be watching his new film.”
Gibson was accused of domestic abuse by his ex Oksana Grigorieva following their split in April 2010. In July, some audio recordings of a rant, allegedly directed by Gibson toward Grigorieva, were leaked online.
The “Braveheart” star was subsequently under investigation and pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery charge. He then settled the case with Grigorieva, who was awarded $750,000, joint legal custody, and a house in Sherman Oaks, California until their three-year-old daughter Lucia turns 18.
As for the anti-Semitism accusation, it was brought up by Winona Ryder who recalled in a June interview with Britain’s Sunday Times newspaper that Gibson referred to her as an “oven dodger” at a Hollywood party. He later denied the allegation, claiming that her account was “100 percent untrue.” Ryder, meanwhile, insisted on her story, urging the actor to “accept responsibility” for his actions.

  • Benedict Cumberbatch's Return as Doctor Strange in 'Spider-Man 3' Sparks Multiverse Theory

    Marvel Studios

The ‘Sherlock’ actor is expected to play a mentor role that was previously occupied by Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.
    Oct 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is going to be reunited with a fellow Avenger in “Spider-Man 3”. Benedict Cumberbatch is set to reprise his role as Doctor Strange in the follow-up to “Spider-Man: Far From Home”, according to multiple reports.
The Academy Award-nominated actor is reportedly going to fill in a mentor role that was previously occupied by Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in “Far From Home”. As The Hollywood Reporter puts it, the role “gives Peter Parker a father figure and gives the movies extra star power while tying them to the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
The report of Doctor Strange’s appearance in “Spider-Man 3” has not been confirmed by Marvel. Cumberbatch’s rumored involvement in the upcoming movie arrives after it was reported that Jamie Foxx is going to return as Electro in the same movie. The “Django Unchained” actor previously portrayed the villainous character in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” starring Andrew Garfield.

Foxx appeared to confirm his return as Electro with his now-deleted post in which he shared a screenshot of an article about the casting news. He wrote in the caption, “Tell Spidey let’s run it back!… super excited to [be] part of the new marvel Spider-Man new installment…”
The 52-year-old star additionally revealed that his villainous character will get a new look for the upcoming “Spider-Man: Far From Home” sequel. “can’t wait for y’all to check the new one. And I won’t be blue in this one!! But a thousand percent bada**!!!” so he teased.
Foxx’s return added with Cumberbatch’s addition to the “Spider-Man 3” cast has sparked speculation that the upcoming third movie could include a multiverse element. Cumberbatch’s own movie “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” itself is set to start shooting later this month in London and will be released after “Spider-Man 3”, so the web-crawler film could set up a multiverse story for the “Doctor Strange” sequel.
Jon Watts in board to direct “Spider-Man 3”, which is slated for a December 17, 2021 release, while “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is set to arrive on March 25, 2022. Interestingly, Sam Raimi, who helmed the “Spider-Man” trilogy starring Tobey Maguire, will serve behind the lens for the new “Doctor Strange” installment.

  • Boy George 'Kindly' Takes Pay Cut for 'The Voice Australia' New Season

    Channel Seven

The Culture Club frontman has been officially signed on to return as a judge on the next installment of the Australian singing competition after he offered to take pay cut.
    Oct 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Boy George apparently agreed to a pay cut from Australia’s Channel Nine in order to secure a spot on the coaching panel of “The Voice Australia”.
The show is in the midst of a shake-up after Channel Seven purchased the rights to the franchise, with plans for a more “cost-effective” show reportedly involving replacing current coaches George, Kelly Rowland, Delta Goodrem, and Guy Sebastian with less expensive talent.
Amid reports “Dance Monkey” star Tones and I and Aussie singer Ricki-Lee Coulter are set to join the show, the Culture Club frontman tweeted on Wednesday (07Oct20) that he’d “kindly” agreed to a pay cut in order to secure a spot on the coaching panel in 2021.
However that agreement was nixed when Seven purchased the rights to the franchise in August and the show switched networks, he has suggested.

“Truth is, I kindly took a pay cut from @TheVoiceAU because of the corona. I am also decent, and they agreed to have me next season,” the British singer tweeted.
“If I had known they would swap networks I still would have taken a financial hit because I’m decent and I never burn bridges!”
The Culture Club singer did not confirm or deny whether he’ll return to the franchise. He previously slammed reports he’d been “dumped” from the show in favour of “cheaper” coach, New Zealand singer Lorde.
Meanwhile, fellow judge Delta Goodrem recently said, “I genuinely don’t know what the next chapter is.” She continued, “Every season, at the end of (The Voice), I take stock of the year. I go, ‘How do I feel as an artist about this next chapter? What do I want for my next chapter?’ I’m truly taking it step by step (this year).”

  • Patty Jenkins Fears Covid-19 Crisis Would Kill Movie Theatre Industry

    WENN

The ‘Wonder Woman’ director warns the ongoing coronavirus pandemic could lead to the extinction of the ‘movie theatre-going forever’ as the industry is struggling amid the crisis.
    Oct 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins has warned that the movie theatre industry faces a very real threat of extinction due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The worldwide health crisis led to cinemas being shut down earlier this year (20) and, while they started to reopen around the globe in July and August, a number have shuttered again following the delay of the releases such as James Bond movie “No Time to Die” and sci-fi epic “Dune”.
Now Jenkins, whose “Wonder Woman 1984” has been delayed three times due to the pandemic, has warned that the industry may never recover from the impact of Covid-19.
“If we shut this down, this will not be a reversible process,” she told Reuters. “We could lose movie theatre-going forever.”

While many movies have headed straight to streaming services rather than having cinema releases, such as Disney’s “Mulan”, Jenkins insisted that’s not a possibility for her blockbuster, starring Gal Gadot.
“It could be the kind of thing that happened to the music industry,” she warned, adding that, if movie theatres continue to close, Hollywood studios will stop investing in films for cinema releases.
“Where you could crumble the entire industry by making it something that can’t be profitable.”
Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled for a cinema release on Christmas Day (25Dec20) – six months after its original planned release in July.
Patty Jenkins recently signed an open letter pleading with the congress to help bail out cinemas hit by the crisis. She was joined by Hollywood movie moguls like Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, Judd Apatow, Jon Chu, Sofia Coppola, Alfonso Cuaron, and Michael Bay.

  • 'KUWTK': Kendall Jenner 'Offended' as Kylie and Corey Gamble Leave Her at a Gas Station

    WENN/Tony King/Avalon

The sisters’ fight over outfit is apparently only the beginning of a wilder fight as they are involved in a ‘full-on fight’ after the Kylie Lip Kit founder refuses to take the model home after dinner.
    Oct 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” has returned with a new explosive episode. The Thursday, October 8 episode of the reality show saw the Kardashians taking on a family bonding trip to Palm Springs. However, ironically, the trip led to new troubles for Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner. The sisters were arguing over an outfit in a previously-released sneak peek, and apparently it was only the beginning of a wilder fight between the two.
Following an awkward dinner, Kendall thought Kylie agreed to drive her home but Kylie felt she never said OK to that. “Why would I drop you home, Kendall? I’m not gonna drive through the city to drop you home,” Kylie told Kendall. When Corey Gamble suggested them to call another car for Kendall as they stopped at a gas station, the later exploded and said, “Corey, I’m not getting in a f***ing random SUV by myself.”
Kylie and Kendall were then involved in shouting match with Kylie yelling, “No one promised to take you home. Why would I promise to drive you over the hill?” Kendall then called Kourtney Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Kim Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian while crying. At one point, Kendall accused Corey of saying, “F**k you,” to her.
As the other ladies were concerned, they decided to go find Kendall who was sobbing alone at the gas station as Kylie and Corey ditched her. She told her mom and her sisters in the car, “I was like, should I give him my address? She goes, ‘No, I’m not dropping you home, what do you think this is?’ Corey’s like, ‘Stop the car, let’s get Kendall another car.’ I’m like….’No, why would I drive all the way back by myself?!’ ”

Khloe responded, “That’s not his place to dictate that!” Kendall continued, “That’s what I said! I said, ‘Corey, shut up. You’re not even trying to be helpful.’ Then Corey, on everything, said, ‘F**k you.’ And I said, ‘F**k you!’ And that’s when I got hysterical.” Kendall claimed that Kylie defended Corey, saying that he didn’t cuss her out. Kendall went on to recall, “I said, ‘I’m dead sober. I wouldn’t make s*** up.’ Then she smacked me or something, and I came back at her and smacked her in the face. Then she took my heel and put it into my neck, so I started kicking her back. We got into a full-on fight.”
“I don’t think I ever would’ve thought either of them were capable of taking it to that level with me, especially because I was just kind of chillin’ and asked a simple question,” the model said in a confessional. “I didn’t see it ever getting to that point. I already know Kylie is going to downplay the situation and make it seem like she did nothing wrong.”
Meanwhile, Kylie shared her side of the story in a confessional. “I’m sure Kendall is saying many things to my family. We’re both very upset,” she said. “I think there was a lot of miscommunication because she thought I was going to take her all the way to Beverly Hills, and I just never agreed to that. So things got very out of hand.”
It seemed like it would take time before they could get over it. “I don’t know how I’ll be able to forget this,” Kendall admitted. “I’m pretty offended and hurt by the situation. I feel super disrespected.”

  • Ruby Rose Cites Covid-19 Pandemic as Reason for Her 'Batwoman' Exit

    The CW

The ‘Orange Is the New Black’ actress claims the coronavirus lockdown prompted her to decide to give up her superhero role on The CW’s new DC show after just one season.
    Oct 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ruby Rose decided to leave “Batwoman” after just one season because the Covid-19 lockdown gave her time to “think and reflect” about the programme.
The 34-year-old’s decision to leave the show came as a shock to fans, considering she’d only starred in the title role for one season.
Addressing her exit on SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show”, however, Ruby denied that a back injury was her main reason for her departure, insisting having time to think about her acting career during lockdown influenced her decision.
“I think what played a bigger part was more, we got shut down early. We didn’t get to finish the first season, which is such a shame, especially for a first season show,” she explained.
“Then we went into lockdown with Covid and thinking of in quarantine and locked down, there was a lot of thought and reflection and everyone did it. You know, we all kind of thought about where we’re at. We were discussing the show and we had a conversation.”

      See also…

She continued, “I had a great time on Batwoman. I am so proud of what we achieved. We set out to achieve something pretty significant, the first-ever live-action Batwoman and the first-ever out gay superhero, her and Kate Kane.”
“I love that character and the whole experience, but we did have a discussion and we sort of mutually agreed that probably what was best for the show at the time was they go in a different direction and I go in a different direction.”
Ruby also insisted that she doesn’t have any bad feelings about her exit and will be watching the second season, which will star Javicia Leslie in the title role.
“It was tough cause it was sad cause we will love each other, but also it made sense for so many different reasons. And I think at the end of the day, I’m really excited to watch season two. I think the show is great. I love the cast,” she smiled.
“I’m still in contact with everyone, but it was a decision that we talked about, we discussed, we slept on. But at the time with all that reflection, it just seemed like the right thing to do.”

  • Kirsten Dunst's New TV Series Canceled After One Season Due to Pandemic

    Showtime

Freshman show ‘On Becoming a God in Central Florida’ has been called off after airing for only one season on Showtime because of the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
    Oct 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Kirsten Dunst’s Showtime series “On Becoming a God in Central Florida” has been cancelled – after network officials originally renewed the programme for a second season.
The series, about the cult of free enterprise and one woman’s relentless pursuit of the American Dream, earned the star a Best Actress nomination at the 2020 Critics’ Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards, but its success couldn’t save the show amid the pandemic.
“Last year, Showtime renewed On Becoming A God In Central Florida but unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we were unable to move forward with production on the new season,” network bosses said in a statement to Deadline.

“The pandemic has continued to challenge schedules across the board, and although we have made every effort to reunite the cast and crew for a second season, that has become untenable. It is with great regret that we are acknowledging On Becoming a God will not return.”
They added, “We extend our deepest thanks to star and executive producer Kirsten Dunst, creators Robert Funke and Matt Lusky, showrunner Esta Spalding and their fellow executive producers George Clooney, Grant Heslov and Charlie McDowell, the terrific cast and crew, and our partners at Sony Pictures Television.”
Film and TV industries have been struggling to adapt to post-coronavirus world since lockdown was first imposed earlier this year. Many projects were either pushed back or called off as the industry was brought to a standstill due to the worldwide pandemic.
Hollywood movie moguls like Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, Judd Apatow, Jon Chu, Sofia Coppola, Alfonso Cuaron, Patty Jenkins, and Michael Bay recently signed an open letter pleading with the congress to help bail out cinemas hit by the crisis.
