  • Daniel Craig Defends 'No Time to Die' Delay: We Want People to Go and See It in 'a Safe Way'

    Universal Pictures

The James Bond actor insists it’s not the right time to release the 009 action blockbuster as the movie is put on hold several times due to the Covid-19 crisis.
    Oct 7, 2020
AceShowbiz – Daniel Craig is fully supportive of plans to delay his final outing as James Bond until next year (21), insisting it simply “isn’t the right time” to launch the action blockbuster.
“No Time to Die” has been among the big Hollywood releases to fall victim to the coronavirus crisis, with its release previously postponed from April (20) to November.
However, it was recently bumped once again until Easter, amid new COVID-19 spikes around the globe, and although fans have been left disappointed, Craig is adamant bosses at MGM Studios have made the right decision.
“This thing is just bigger than all of us,” Craig told U.S. talk show host Jimmy Fallon of the pandemic on Monday night (05Oct20), coinciding with James Bond Day.
“We just want people to go and see this movie in the right way, in a safe way,” the Brit continued.

“Cinemas all around the world are closed at the moment. We want to release the movie at the same time all around the world, and this isn’t the right time. So, fingers crossed, April 2 is going to be our day.”
And Craig is happy he agreed to return for one more action thriller after infamously declaring he’d rather “slash” his wrists than make another movie as 007 following 2015’s “Spectre”.
“I’ve given it everything I can,” he explained of “No Time to Die”. “I’m so glad that I came back and did this last one. We had lots of loose threads we hadn’t tied up. The story just didn’t feel complete…”
Addressing his controversial comments about returning for a fifth and final film as the superspy, he said, “I needed a break, I truly admit it. I just needed to get my head away from it for a while and once I had, we (he and the producers) started talking about storylines and things that we could do, and where we could take it.”
“No Time to Die”, directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, also stars Jeffrey Wright, Lea Seydoux, and Rami Malek.

  • 'Game of Thrones' Showrunners Thought Coffee Cup Gaffe Was 'Photoshopped' as Prank

    HBO

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss talk about the infamous gaffe in the final season of the HBO hit fantasy series, admitting they initially thought it was not real.
    Oct 7, 2020
AceShowbiz – David Benioff and D.B. Weiss “couldn’t believe” it when eagle-eyed viewers spotted a takeout coffee cup during an episode of “Game of Thrones”.
In “The Last of the Starks”, the fourth episode of the HBO fantasy series’ eighth and final season – several of the show’s main characters gather to celebrate their victory in a vicious battle.
However, the jubilant scene proved memorable for all the wrong reasons, after a modern to-go coffee cup was spotted among the revellers.
Speaking with James Hibberd for his upcoming book “Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon”, which tells the story of the production of the show, showrunners Benioff and Weiss addressed the infamous moment, admitting they thought it was a “prank.”

“I couldn’t believe it,” said Benioff. “When we got the email about it the next day, I honestly thought someone was pranking us, because there had been things before where people were like, ‘Oh, look at that plane in the background!’ and somebody had Photoshopped it in.”
“I thought, ‘There’s no way there’s a coffee cup in there.’ Then when I saw it on the TV I was like, ‘How did I not see that?’ ” he recalled.
Weiss added, “I’d seen that shot one thousand times, and we’re always looking at their faces or how the shot sat with the shots on either side of it. I felt like we were the participants in a psychology experiment, like where you don’t see the gorillas running around in the background because you’re counting the basketballs.”
“Every production that’s ever existed had things like this. You can see a crew member in Braveheart; there’s an actor wearing a wristwatch in Spartacus,” he continued. “But now people can rewind things and everybody is talking to each other in real time. So one person saw the coffee cup, rewound it, and then everybody did.”
Speculation swirled as to who left the cup in the frame, until last October (19) when actress Emilia Clarke revealed Conleth Hill, who played Lord Varys, confessed he was responsible for the mistake.

AceShowbiz – Mindy Kaling is having a great time working on the new “Legally Blonde” sequel.
Reese Witherspoon asked her pal and “A Wrinkle in Time” co-star to co-write the screenplay for “Legally Blonde 3” with Dan Goor, and Kaling admits she’s having a lot of fun with unlikely legal eagle Elle Woods.
“It’s been really fun to write,” she tells “Good Morning America”. “I think it’s going to be a great movie for Reese and people are going to love her in this part.”
“The Office” star reveals she was nervous when Witherspoon approached her about getting involved in the “iconic” movie series.

“I’ve been working with Reese on a couple of movies and we’ve been friends for a while and I have always quoted the movies to her,” Mindy explains. “It’s been over 20 years since she did the first movie and she asked me if I could help her revisit the character. I was nervous because that film is iconic… I thought it would be fun to see her in her 40s.”
Reese’s co-star Luke Wilson previously admitted he would be keen for a return to the series as Emmett Richmond.
Revealing the cast recently regrouped for a Zoom chat, the actor said, “Reese put together this Zoom reunion and it was really funny, because we haven’t seen everybody since we worked on the movie. I’ve always been such a big fan of Reese’s.”
“I don’t know any more than anybody else that’s on the Internet… but I think they’re writing another movie. I always thought that character of Reese’s was so funny that I know people would love to see it again. I’d definitely be up for working on it, but I’ll just have to wait and see.”

“No Time to Die” finds Bond enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica after he has left active service when his old CIA friend Felix Leiter, played by Jeffrey Wright, turns up asking for help. Leaving his life with partner Dr. Madeleine Swann, played by Lea Seydoux, Bond returns to the field to face the villainous Safin (Rami Malek) who is armed with a new dangerous technology that could impact the world.
The movie was originally set for May release before it’s pushed back to November 12 and then delayed again until Easter due to pandemic. • 'Rebuilding Paradise' Producers to Allocate Proceeds to Wildfire Relief Efforts

    National Geographic

To debut on the National Geographic channel in November, this Ron Howard-directed documentary focuses on the aftermath of the 2018 Camp Fire which destroyed the city of Paradise in California.
    Oct 6, 2020
AceShowbiz – The producers of filmmaker Ron Howard’s new disaster documentary are offering up proceeds from streaming sales and downloads to aid the ongoing wildlife relief effort in California.
“Rebuilding Paradise”, which focuses on the aftermath of the 2018 Camp Fire which destroyed the city of Paradise in California, will debut on the National Geographic channel on 8 November – the second anniversary of the disaster – and the producers of the film have committed a portion of all sales and rentals of the documentary, currently available to stream and watch online, throughout Fire Prevention Month to wildfire recovery efforts in Paradise and the surrounding areas.
“We at Imagine Documentaries are thankful to our partners at National Geographic Documentary Films for the continued effort to share this very important and timely film with a wider audience,” Howard says. “There is no doubt that climate change is a contributing factor to the historic fires burning even now on the West Coast, devastating entire communities. This should be a wake-up call. Paradise could be any of us.”

“We are proud to continue to share the timely and urgent story of Paradise with viewers around the world. We hope this film and our impact efforts can bring much-needed attention and aid to the resilient community of Paradise and surrounding areas as they rebuild, especially now, in the face of additional threats from wildfire disasters,” Carolyn Bernstein, EVP Global Scripted Content and Documentary Films at National Geographic, added.

The Camp Fire ravaged Paradise on 8 November, 2018, claiming the lives of 85 people and destroying 95 per cent of local structures. It was the deadliest U.S. fire in 100 years – and the worst ever in California’s history.
The Paradise locals were in the line of fire again last month, when the North Complex Fire forced them to evacuate properties for a day.

  • Uma Thurman Does Not Believe 'Kill Bill 3' Will Ever Happen

    Miramax Films

While The Bride depicter shoots down hope for ‘Volume 3’, her co-star Vivica A. Fox suggests Zendaya Coleman should be cast as Vernita Green’s grown-up daughter Nikki should a new film takes shape.
    Oct 6, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actress Uma Thurman isn’t holding out hope for a third “Kill Bill” movie.
Writer/director Quentin Tarantino has long floated the idea of expanding the action thriller franchise into a trilogy, but so much time has passed since 2003’s “Kill Bill: Volume 1” and its 2004 sequel, his leading lady is convinced it will never come to fruition, because the filmmaker is always looking ahead to his next project.
Asked if there will still be a “Volume 3”, Thurman, who portrayed the assassin known as The Bride, told U.S. breakfast show “Today, “I don’t think so. I think it’s already been made and been played and it’s done in Quentin’s mind… He’s onto the next thing.”

      See also…

The star’s comments emerge 10 months after Tarantino assured fans the film is still “definitely in the cards”, although it would be “at least three years” until he’s ready to revisit the story again.
Meanwhile, Thurman’s co-star Vivica A. Fox recently suggested Zendaya Coleman should be cast as Nikki Green, the grown-up daughter of her murdered character, Vernita Green, if a new “Kill Bill” movie takes shape.
Fans loved the idea of the “Euphoria” star taking on a leading role in the potential Tarantino project and began proposing revenge plotlines, but Zendaya insisted it’s just wishful thinking.
“I was quite honoured that she (Fox) would say that. Obviously she’s incredible, and I’m very flattered that she would think of me,” she told British film publication Empire. “But, you know, it’s just an idea. The Internet kinda takes things and runs with it.”

  • Akshay Kumar Applauds 'Bell Bottom' Cast and Crew for Safe Completion of Scotland Filming

    Instagram

Speaking about the first Bollywood film to shoot internationally following the COVID-19 lockdown, the leading man shares the extensive and meticulous safety measures planned by the production team.
    Oct 6, 2020
AceShowbiz – Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has applauded the production team behind new movie “Bell Bottom” for keeping its cast and crew safe as they completed the project in Scotland amid COVID-19 fears.
The film was Bollywood’s first to shoot internationally following the coronavirus lockdown and Kumar reveals everyone went to extraordinary lengths to stay safe on set.
“We wanted to be as sure as possible about the safety of everyone around us, hence an extensive and meticulous safety measures plan was laid out by the production house, Pooja Entertainment, hoping to accomplish a smooth and safe shoot,” he tells Deadline.

“Besides medical-grade masks and face shields, the production house also made it mandatory for the cast and crew to wear wrist watches that constantly monitored their oxygen levels, body temperature, blood pressure, stress levels and pulse via a centralised dashboard. Along with this, everyone was instructed to live within the premises in bubbles, to minimise interaction with the outside world. Chefs were also appointed for the team so as to avoid the need to order food from restaurants.
“Furthermore, there was an on-set doctor, looking into the vitals of all the crew members on a daily basis and every 15 days the entire crew would take a mandatory COVID test. There was a sanitisation tunnel installed for the crew to use before starting the day’s work and at the end of the day, each day, the set was rigorously disinfected.”
Kumar reveals the producers selected Scotland as a location, because it was the safest place in the U.K. to shoot: “The plan was always to shoot in the United Kingdom but Scotland got zeroed in on as it matched all of our requirements in terms of locations, aesthetics that we were looking for and a more controlled environment to work in during this pandemic. The Scottish government and the authorities were a big help in this, guiding and supporting us each step of the way, ensuring a smooth sailing of the schedule.
“Planning a film’s production by itself is a Herculean task, add to that the safety and security of a 225-member crew was an even bigger task. But kudos to the production team, they did a stellar job.”

AceShowbiz – “Game of Thrones” prequel “House of the Dragon” has found its leading man. The upcoming HBO series has tapped British actor Paddy Considine to play King Viserys Targaryen, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Considine, whose credits include HBO’s “The Outsider” and Netflix’s “Peaky Blinders”, is the first actor to be cast on the series. A new description of his character read, “King Viserys Targaryen is chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal.”
Described as “a warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy. But good men do not necessarily make for great kings.”
In addition to “The Outsider”, Cosidine appeared in movies such as “The World’s End” and “Hot Fuzz”. He was also nominated for a Tony last year for his work in the Broadway play “The Ferryman”.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s House Targaryen chronicle “Fire & Blood”, “House of the Dragon” is set 300 years before “Game of Thrones”. The show will also reportedly feature Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Queen Alicent Hightower, Aegon II Targaryen and Prince Daemon Targaryen.
Princess Rhaenyra is King Viserys’ chosen heir, a dragon rider who grew up expecting to become the first ruling Queen of Westeros. Queen Alicent, meanwhile, is described as Viserys’ second wife and Rhaenyra’s stepmother, who had three children of her own with the king including Aegon II Targaryen. As for Prince Daemon Targaryen, he is Rhaenyra’s uncle and an experienced warrior.
The series hails from Martin and co-showrunners Ryan Condal (“Colony”) and Miguel Sapochnik (“Game of Thrones”). Sara Lee Hess from “Orange Is the New Black” is also said to be joining the show’s writing-producing team.
“House of the Dragon” is set to premiere sometime in 2022 on HBO.
