  • Clint Eastwood Adapting Classic Novel 'Cry Macho' for Big Screen

    WENN

The ‘American Sniper’ director is set to sit behind the lens, serve as a producer, and star in the upcoming big screen adaption of N. Richard Nash’s 1978 book.
    Oct 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – Clint Eastwood has lined up his next project – a movie adaptation of classic novel “Cry Macho”.
The 90-year-old Academy Award-winning director will direct, produce and star in the forthcoming flick, backed on the 1978 novel by author N. Richard Nash, reported Deadline.
“Cry Macho” centres on a onetime rodeo star and washed-up horse breeder who, in 1978, takes a job from an ex-boss to bring the man’s young son home, away from his alcoholic mum.
The pair cross rural Mexico as they return to Texas in what becomes an unexpectedly challenging journey, during which the world-weary horseman finds his own sense of redemption by teaching the boy what it means to be a good man.

The screenplay, which was originally penned by Nash in the 1980s for a movie adaption, will be re-written by Nick Schenk.
Clint Eastwood recently joined fellow Hollywood movie moguls like Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, Judd Apatow, Jon Chu, Sofia Coppola, Alfonso Cuaron, Patty Jenkins, and Michael Bay to sign an open letter pleading with the congress to help bail out cinemas hit by the crisis.
Film and TV industries have been struggling to adapt to post-coronavirus world since lockdown was first imposed earlier this year. Many projects were either pushed back or called off as the industry was brought to a standstill due to the worldwide pandemic.
Some projects scrambling to adjust their production included movies “The Batman” and “Cop Shop” as well as TV shows like “Stranger Things”, “Riverdale”, “Batwoman”, “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”, “Supergirl”, and “Chicago Med”.

  • Megan Thee Stallion Calls Out Kentucky Attorney General With 'Savage' Message on 'SNL'

    NBC

While performing her hit single ‘Savage’ on ‘Saturday Night Live’, the female rapper takes a dig at Daniel Cameron for refusing to charge Breonna Taylor’s killers.
    Oct 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – Megan Thee Stallion took the opportunity to share an important political message during her “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) appearance this weekend (03Oct20).
While performing her song “Savage”, the 25-year-old rapper had a message written across the screen behind her, slamming Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron and his handling of the investigation into Breonna Taylor’s death.

“Daniel Cameron is no different than the sellout Negroes that sold our people into slavery,” the message directed at the black Republican state leader read.

Megan also took time to advocate for the protection of black women and men in America, insisting, “We need to protect our black women and love our black women.”
“(Be)cause at the end of the day, we need our black women. We need to protect our black men and stand up for our black men. ‘Cause at the end of the day we’re tired of seeing hashtags of our black men.”
Taylor, 26, was shot and killed by police officers during a botched raid on her apartment in Louisville, Kentucky in March (20), and her killing, as well as that of George Floyd in May (20), prompted a huge surge in Black Lives Matter protests across the U.S. and the world.
But last month (Sep20), Cameron claimed two of the three officers were justified in their actions while charging another with “wanton endangerment” following the release of a Grand Jury report into the tragedy.
Rihanna, Alicia Keys, and Bryson Tiller are among the stars who have also slammed Cameron’s decision not to proceed with further charges.

  • George Clooney Altered Movie Plot to Avoid Putting Pregnant Felicity Jones in 'Position of Stress'

    WENN

The ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ star reveals he decided to change the plot of his new movie ‘The Midnight Sky’ after his female co-star told him she was expecting a child.
    Oct 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – George Clooney changed the script for his new movie “The Midnight Sky” after learning actress Felicity Jones was expecting her first child.
The apocalyptic Netflix movie, also starring David Oyelowo, tells the story of Augustine (Clooney), a lonely scientist in the Arctic, as he races to stop Sully (Jones) and her fellow astronauts from returning home to a mysterious global catastrophe.
Speaking in a new interview with British movie magazine Empire magazine, George opens up about the change and how it actually made the story even better.
“About three or four weeks into shooting, I got a call from Felicity,” he recalls. “We started shooting the Iceland parts in October of last year, and we were going to shoot the space parts in January. She calls me and goes, ‘Uhhh, I’m pregnant.’ I was like, ‘Oh, s**t! You’re kidding!’ ”

Explaining he considered multiple options, Clooney continues, “The first thing we tried to do was shoot her and just do head replacement. Meaning we shoot each scene with her three times: once with her, once with a body double, and once with nothing in it. But we started looking at it and thought, ‘She’s not comfortable in this sort of thing.’ ”
“There’s already enough space stuff, on wires and things. None of us felt comfortable putting her in any kind of position of stress,” he adds. “Then it was really simply sitting down and going, ‘Okay, so, you know, people have sex! They’re going to be in space for a long time and she’s pregnant.’ ”

“I think it ends up adding to the story, in a way,” the star, who also serves as director and producer on the flick, says. “It makes it kind of beautiful by the end.”

Interview: Linus Karp tells us “How to live a jellicle life”.

It’s an hour of jellicle ridiculousness and silliness – which I think we all need more of in these times!

When Linus Karp got in touch to let us know about his new show, (playing at Lion and Unicorn Theatre from 20 October) we were shocked to realise it had been almost three years since we first came across the wonderful Awkward Conversations with Animals I’ve F*cked.  And having had our ego well and truly massaged with our review appearing on the show’s flyers for much of its life, we couldn’t turn down the chance to talk to him and find out just what attracted him to Cats – the film, not, well, you know…

Did you ever imagine just how big the reaction would be for Awkward Conversations?
Yes and no. I could never have predicted it having as long a life as it did, and I very much doubted my own ability to perform it beforehand – but I thought it was the most brilliant thing I’d ever read so really hoped that it would resonate with people as it had with me. I’m thrilled it had the life and impact it did, and it will always be the most special thing to me.
The show toured extensively: did that changed how you related to the show, and your character Bobby, come the final performance?
Absolutely. One of my favourite things about Awkward was how clever Rob’s [Rob Hayes] writing was – how much was said without actually being said. Even though I’d read and performed the text so many times I kept finding new things. It felt like for every run I understood more and more of Bobby’s world and it kept getting better as a performance. Having been with a show and a character for so long, it was very much my own emotions mixed with Bobby’s as he bid farewell to the things he loved at the last few shows.
Your new show, “how to live a jellicle life: life lessons from the 2019 hit movie musical ‘cats’” is quite a mouthful: can we just call it ‘jellicle’ for short please?
As long as you write good things about it you can call it whatever you like! I do love a long title – but having spent the last few days typing out the title over and over in emails and on social media my fingers have started to bleed and I do question my choices…
Had you always planned to write your own show, or is it something that developed during your time with Awkward Conversations?
I’ve wanted to write something myself for quite some time, though I lacked confidence and never really felt passionate enough about any of the things I started writing about – then I went and saw Cats…
So what attracted you to write a show about the Cats movie? Are you a fan, or are you with the majority who were just disturbed by it all?
Funnily enough I didn’t really care for Cats at first – I’d never seen the stage show and I went along to the cinema only because my flatmates wanted to see it. I was so engrossed in the movie I had to go back to the cinema a few days later. I’ve barely been able to think about anything else since! I enjoy the film beyond words and listen to the soundtrack every day without fail. I can’t believe how cool I must sound right now!
Can we expect anything quite as controversial as Awkward Conversations?

Well, seemingly the hit movie musical Cats is a more controversial subject than bestiality to some, judging by reactions on Twitter! Though I think the show is both accessible and enjoyable for most – some friends who hadn’t seen the film saw a preview and still loved it. Which is always a good start!
I will present and discuss the various jellicle cats from Cats, talking about what makes them jellicle and how you can apply their jellicleness to your life in order to make it more jellicle. It’s an hour of jellicle ridiculousness and silliness – which I think we all need more of in these times!

Without giving too much more away, do you give much attention to the genital debate that happened around the movie?
The show is not suitable to anyone under 18. Does that answer your question?
The show opens with a short run at Lion and Unicorn Theatre, the same venue where Awkward Conversations begun life; a good omen? Can you ever dream that the show will be as successful as Awkward?
Haha, I’d love to think so – it does feel nice to start in the same space! The shows are so completely different, it’s hard to draw similarities or expect them to do the same thing. When I started creating this show I thought that maybe no one but myself would want to see it, but the reaction from venues and people in general have been overwhelmingly positive. Who knows how far the jellicle power of Cats will take it!?
When we notified our team about the upcoming show, Emily, who reviewed Awkward Conversations, instantly replied to put her name in the hat: do you envisage that this show will appeal to the same audience?
Firstly, can I just say that Emily’s review of Awkward Conversations is the best piece of literature ever written, with timeless classic quotes such as “exceptionally creative and hilariously funny“, “an absolutely pitch-perfect Linus Karp” and 5-stars.
The shows are really different and jellicle is a lot sillier, though I also think they appeal to a similar audience. It was wonderful seeing people coming back to Awkward multiple times during its many runs. I really hope they come back and enjoy this one as well.
So after you tour jellicle for three years, what do you have planned next?
Ha! I do already have another idea for a ridiculous show that I’m hoping to do at some point after this. I’d also love to do something where I’m not alone on stage and actually have other actors to talk to. Plus, I’m waiting for Tom Hooper (Cats director) to call me and offer me a part in Cats 2.

As always, our heartfelt thanks to Linus for taking time out of his preparations to talk to us.
Jellicle will be on at Lion and Unicorn Theatre and runs between 20 October and 24 October, including a Saturday matinee and two shows on Friday. More

  • Liam Neeson Has Unusual Way to Choose Movie Roles

    WENN

The ‘Taken’ actor uses what he calls his ‘cup of tea test’ when reading movie scripts in order to help him decide which onscreen roles to accept and which ones to reject.
    Oct 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Liam Neeson picks film roles based on his need to have a cup of tea.
The movie star knows a film is going to be good if he doesn’t feel the need to take a tea break while reading its script.
Such was the case with his new movie, “The Honest Thief”, in which he portrays a bank robber trying to go straight.
“I have something I call my cup of tea test,” Neeson tells WENN. “If I start reading the script and I get to page six and decide, ‘Oh, I must get a cup of tea’, that’s not a good sign.”

      See also…

“With Honest Thief, I got all the way to the end of the story. (Character) Tom meets this woman and falls in love for the first time in his life. He decides to give up his bandit career after accumulating these millions of dollars. I thought that was such an original idea. It really touched me.”
And he also enjoys films in which he gets to work with stunt co-ordinator Mark Vanselow – the pair has now teamed up for 24 projects.
“I’ve never once scuffed a knuckle, never once had a damaged muscle – nothing at all,” Liam explains. “Mark and I have a very tight shorthand language. He’ll work with his stunt guys first and devise the fight, show it to me, and after we’ve wrapped for the day, we’ll rehearse in a space that has an outline of the set and all of that.”
“I might have a couple of notes and say, ‘We already did that in Taken 2,’ ‘Can I do a kick there instead of a punch?’ Then we slowly go through the fight, grab the other actors if and when we can, and go through the fight over and over and over again. When we finally get to shoot the fight on set, we act as if it’s the first time we’ve ever done it, so the audience believes it’s real. But also, because we’ve rehearsed it to death, no one’s going to get hurt.”

  • Lily Collins Struggles to Adjust Life in Paris While Filming New Series

    Netflix

The ‘Mirror Mirror’ actress admits she, just like her onscreen character in Netflix’s new show ‘Emily in Paris’, felt lost when staying in the City of Lights during the filming.
    Oct 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Lily Collins didn’t have to dig too deep to play an American struggling with the French language and culture in “Emily in Paris” – she lived the role in the City of Lights.
The actress plays a naive and romantic marketing executive trying to get to grips with Paris in the new Netflix series and admits life mirrored art while she was living in the city.
Unlike her clueless character, Lily knew a little French but it was not enough to help her deal with the everyday dramas she faced when she was not filming.
“I grew up speaking French but then stopped practising, so I wasn’t versed enough when I got there and to play a character that hardly understands the language at all to then, on weekends, try to do it myself like I used to, it was very difficult for me.”

      See also…

“Also, things that happened to Emily happened to me, like I lost hot water for two weeks, my apartment didn’t have heating, my elevator stopped working, there was construction everywhere.”
“There were these moments where I thought to myself, ‘Are you guys planning this so that I can have empathy for Emily…?’ But it was such a fun experience and I feel so grateful even more to have been there as a local for four months because now all I want to do is travel.”
Lily admits that watching the series, which debuts on Netflix this weekend (02Oct20), makes her realise the world is now a very different place thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.
“I go, ‘Oh my God, there’s too many people there (in that scene)’ or ‘Don’t touch… Don’t do the French three-kiss hello’. It seems a world gone by to be able to experience it like that.”

The Joe Carnahan movie had only been shooting for days in Georgia when the health scare prompted producers to shut the project down.
