  • Kid Cudi Initially Thought Timothee Chalamet Played a Part in His 'We Are Who We Are' Casting

    WENN/Nicky Nelson

Speaking about the selection of the ‘Just What I Am’ rapper for the limited series, director Luca Guadagnino insists he would not have done so if he did not think the MC is a good actor.
    Oct 1, 2020
AceShowbiz – Rapper/actor Kid Cudi was so surprised to be cast in director Luca Guadagnino’s new TV drama, he became convinced mutual pal Timothee Chalamet was somehow involved.
Chalamet starred in the filmmaker’s critically-acclaimed 2017 movie “Call Me by Your Name”, so when Cudi was tapped to feature in his coming-of-age limited series, “We Are Who We Are”, the hip-hop star was sure Guagagnino was simply offering him the job as a favour.
“I can’t believe I got the role,” Cudi marvelled to Esquire magazine. “I asked Timmy if he said something to (Luca) or anything to plug me. I thought that was all Timmy when (Luca) hit me up, truthfully.”

“(Timmy) was like, ‘No, bro, I was playing your music on set (of Call Me by Your Name) and telling him who you were… No.’ So I was like, ‘Oh, this is f**king ill. Just the universe lining up just right’.”
And Guadagnino insists he wouldn’t have cast Cudi in his show if he didn’t think he was a genuinely good fit: “He’s a great actor. But for me to be on set is to be with people that I worship, that I love, that I want to spend time with, and I felt that energy with him.”
Returning the praise, Cudi, real name Scott Mescudi, said, “He’s the sweetest man. It was always, ‘Scott, my love!’.”
“We Are Who We Are” also features Chloe Sevigny, and has brief cameos by Chalamet and his “Call Me by Your Name” co-star Armie Hammer as background extras.

  • Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews Are Fired Because 'DWTS' 'Needed to Evolve'

    Instagram

Meanwhile, of new host Tyra Banks, who also serves as one of the executive producers in season 29 of the show, Andrew Llinares says that she ‘is doing an amazing, amazing job.’
    Oct 1, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Dancing with the Stars” shocked everyone after it was revealed that OG host Tom Bergeron and co-host Erin Andrews were axed from the show and replaced by Tyra Banks. Now, executive producer Andrew Llinares has explained why the show made such a surprising decision.
“I think it’s all about evolution. I think any show like this that has been on many, many seasons needs to continue to evolve,” he explained during ABC’s VirtuFall panel on Wednesday, September 30. “I think changing the host was all about evolution, it was about making the show feel fresh, making it feel new [and] kind of make it reach out – maybe to a new audience as well, as well as the audience that’s been there for years.”
Of new host Tyra Banks, who also serves as one of the executive producers in season 29 of the show, Llinares shared, “I think it’s working brilliantly with the one host. I think it’s really refreshed the pace of the show, actually.”

“I think it’s taken it to a new pace, in terms of moving faster and just feeling different. I think there’s a real danger when a show’s been on for a long time that the audience almost gets bored of the rhythm. It doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with it. It just sort of gets a little boring – the rhythm of it. So, I think it’s changed the rhythm of the show in a really exciting way,” he added.
He continued, “Tyra is doing an amazing, amazing job. It’s just so wonderful to have her energy in the ballroom and her expertise as a host in the ballroom. I think I think she’s brought a new life to everything. It’s really exciting.”
ABC announced Tom and Erin’s exit in July. “Tom Bergeron will forever be part of the Dancing with the Stars family. As we embark on a new creative direction, he departs the show with our sincerest thanks and gratitude for his trademark wit and charm that helped make this show a success,” ABC and BBC Studios said in a joint statement.
“Erin will also not be returning, and we appreciate all that she brought to the ballroom,” the statement continued. “Fans have been rooting for her since she originally competed as a contestant back in 2010, and her signature sense of humor has become a hallmark of the show.”

  • 'Love Island' Finale: Justine and Caleb Crowned as Season 2 Winner

    CBS/Robert Voets

As to how they would spend the $100,000 grand prize from the CBS All Access show, Caleb shares that he has been wanting to have a ‘really fancy helicopter date’ with Justine.
    Oct 1, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Love Island” aired its season 2 finale on Wednesday, September 30. In the episode, cast members Justine Ndiba and Caleb Corprew were announced as the winner, edging out fellow finalists Cely Vazquez and Johnny Middlebrooks, Calvin Cobb and Moira Tumas as well as Carrington Rodriguez and Laurel Goldman.
The happy couple was eligible to take home the $100,000 grand prize. Of their victory, Justine shared to Entertainment Tonight’s Ash Crossan via a Zoom interview, “Super pumped! Really excited. It’s not hit yet. Like, we’re still in shock!”
“We are on top of the world, but it’s still crazy because we still don’t know what’s going on outside of the villa,” Caleb chimed in. “We still don’t know what’s going on in the outside world.”
While the couple found the newfound fame “scary,” they admitted that they’re happy to represent black love in TV. “I can’t speak from a dark-skinned complexion perspective but I can speak from a man of color perspective and being a black man. It’s really awesome to see that not only were we able to display healthy love for the viewers at home and it’s awesome that the people watching who related to us, seeing that healthy love can also look like that,” Caleb said.

He went on saying, “That is really exciting to hear that our relationship is impacting people on more than just a ‘weeknight, gotta get their fix away from reality [level].’ For us, for our love be a high point is really awesome.”
Justine, meanwhile, said, “I love the skin I’m in. I love the way God made me. But I feel like a lot of those insecurities are because a lot of the Black girls haven’t had a lot of success on this kind of platform. To have those doubts be brought out early on, it was definitely hard but it turned out alright.”
As to how they would spend the money, Caleb shared, “I’ve been saying that I have a really fancy helicopter date that I have to top so I feel like I may just ball out on one really crazy date.” Justine then joked that “he’s going to take me to the moon.”
“Yeah, I was thinking about taking her to the moon. Maybe a submarine ride, I don’t know. Something low-key,” he responded.

  • Get First Look at Chadwick Boseman in His Final Movie 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom'

    Netflix

Denzel Washington, who co-produces the Netflix movie, praises the late actor’s ‘a brilliant job,’ while his co-star Viola Davis remembers he ‘could completely discard whatever ego he had’ to portray Levee.
    Oct 1, 2020
AceShowbiz – Chadwick Boseman had completed filming for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, which now would be his final film, before his shocking death in late August. Now, the first look at the late actor in the upcoming Netflix movie has been unveiled.
Boseman portrays Levee, an ambitious trumpeter, in the film. He is seen suiting up in one image and lying down on a bench while being surrounded by other musicians in another shot. There’s also a behind-the-scenes look featuring the “Black Panther” star with lead actress Viola Davis and director George C. Wolfe.

Davis takes on the title role, who is described as the legendary “Mother of the Blues.” A still picture shows her in a scene where she performs with a band of musicians, while another image sees her channeling her inner diva on stage while being joined by some backing dancers.

Speaking to The New York Times, Denzel Washington, who co-produced the movie, gushes over Boseman’s performance. “He did a brilliant job, and he’s gone. I still can’t believe it,” he said of the late actor.

Davis, meanwhile, applauds Boseman’s work ethic. “A lot of actors mistake their presence for the event,” she says of her co-star. “An actor of Chadwick’s status usually comes on and it’s their ego who comes on before them: This is what they want, this is what they’re not going to do. That was absolutely, 150 percent off the table with Chadwick. He could completely discard whatever ego he had, whatever vanity he had, and welcome Levee in.”

She goes on recalling how Boseman received a lot of support from his team during the production. “I’m looking back at how tired he always seemed. I look at his beautiful, unbelievable team that was meditating over him and massaging him, and I now realize everything they were trying to infuse in him to keep him going and working at his optimal level. And he received it,” she shares, not realizing that he was battling cancer at the time.
“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” is based on the play of the same name by August Wilson. The film is set during an intense recording session in 1920s Chicago as Ma Rainey battles her manager and producer over control of her music and goes toe-to-toe with band members such as Boseman’s Levee, an ambitious trumpeter who is determined to make a name for himself in the music industry.
The movie will be released December 18 on Netflix.

  • 'Riverdale' and 'Batwoman' Shut Down Production Due to Covid-19 Testing Delays

    The CW

The productions on the two comic book TV series have been halted along with several other shows like ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’, ‘Supergirl’, and ‘Chicago Med’.
    Oct 1, 2020
AceShowbiz – Production has reportedly shut down on U.S. TV shows “Riverdale” and “Batwoman” due to coronavirus testing delays in Vancouver, where the programmes are filmed.
According to Variety, there’s just a single lab company approved to oversee Covid-19 testing in British Columbia – where production opened in June (20) due to the Canadian province’s proficient handling of the containment of the virus – and they are prioritising schools and local businesses. Sources told the industry outlet that the shut downs are “assumed to be temporary”, and are likely to get up and running again once the testing backlog has cleared.
Production has also been delayed on “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” and “Supergirl”, both of which were scheduled to start filming this week, the outlet added.

Meanwhile, production on medical drama “Chicago Med” has also been suspended for the next fortnight, due to a positive Covid-19 test.
An NBC spokesperson told Entertainment Tonight that an individual on the set tested positive through a rapid test as part of the production’s regular coronavirus protocol, and immediately went home.
The representative added that the protocols and systems in place meant they were able to act quickly and that the pause in production won’t affect the delivery of the show on NBC.
Film and TV industries have been struggling to adapt to post-coronavirus world since lockdown was first imposed earlier this year. Many projects were either pushed back or called off as the industry was brought to a standstill due to the worldwide pandemic.

  • 'The Lion King' Sequel Secures 'Moonlight' Director Barry Jenkins

    Walt Disney Pictures/WENN/Avalon

Being selected to serve at the helm of the follow-up to the 2019 Disney movie, the Oscar-winning filmmaker calls it ‘a dream come true’ to be able to work on the upcoming project.
    Sep 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Disney’s “The Lion King (2019)” is getting a sequel, with awards-winning filmmaker Barry Jenkins at the helm. The “Moonlight” director has been tapped to take over the directing duty from Jon Favreau, who would not return as director for the follow-up film.
In a statement released on Tuesday, September 29, Jenkins expressed his excitement at embracing the African culture with the upcoming project. “Helping my sister raise two young boys during the ’90s, I grew up with these characters,” he shared how he grew attached to the fictional Pride Lands characters.
He added, “Having the opportunity to work with Disney on expanding this magnificent tale of friendship, love and legacy while furthering my work chronicling the lives and souls of folk within the African diaspora is a dream come true.”
Jenkins’ partner, filmmaker Lulu Wang, seemed to celebrate the news by recreating an iconic scene from the movie. She posted on Twitter a short clip of her lifting her dog while the film’s opening music played in the background.

The sequel will be a continuation to the 2019 movie, rather than the 1994 cartoon. Sources say the new movie will partly focus on the early years of Mufasa, the regal father of Simba whose death forms the emotional heart of the first film and its remake.
Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the screenplay for the 2019 movie, is returning to write the follow-up. Disney, however, has not announced a release date for the sequel and it’s also unclear when the production will start.
The Favreau-directed reboot heavily used photorealistic computer-animated images and featured some new original songs, in addition to a cover of The Tokens’ “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and the song “He Lives in You”.
The star-studded voice cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce Knowles as Nala, Billy Eichner as Timon, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar among others. It’s currently unknown if they have been on board to return for the sequel.
