    Robert De Niro, Ben Platt and Florence Pugh Join 'Father of the Bride' Reunion

    The original cast of the classic 1991 romcom are joined by a series of new members as they bring back their characters for the virtual fundraising event.

    AceShowbiz – Robert De Niro, Ben Platt, and Florence Pugh were among the new faces who took part in a virtual “Father of the Bride” reunion on Friday (25Sep20).
    The special took place on YouTube and Facebook at 6 pm ET, with Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Martin Short, Kieran Culkin, and George Newborn all reuniting to bring back their original characters from the 1991 film.
    However, there was also a handful of fresh stars added into the mix, with Robert, Ben, Florence and Alexandra Shipp delighting fans by taking part in the special.
    Florence starred as the youngest Banks child, Megan, and Ben was Georgie, Annie (Kimberley) and Bryan’s (Steve) now-grown son. Robert made an appearance as Alexandra’s father in the reunion as she had a virtual wedding with Kieran’s Matty Banks.

    The short film, hosted by Netflix, brought awareness to the World Central Kitchen, and is one of many reunion specials raising money and awareness during the Covid-19 crisis.
    The original movie revolved around an overprotective dad struggling to come to terms with his daughter’s surprise engagement. The 1991 romcom was a remake of the 1950 movie of the same name. A sequel followed in 1995. Both were directed by Charles Shyer.
    Producer Nancy Meyers first teased the upcoming reunion earlier this month. The filmmaker posted on Instagram the movie’s poster along with a caption, “If he thought a wedding was a lot, how would he react to 2020? Coming soon to the phone in your hand!”
    After the reunion, she wrote, “Thank you for all your wonderful comments yesterday!” and called it “Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish).”

    AceShowbiz – Cult movie classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” turns 45 on Saturday, September 26, and Fandango bosses are celebrating with screenings and two new video specials for fans.
    The 1975 comedy-horror musical, starring Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon, has been made available for purchase on FandangoNOW and streaming site Vudu this weekend, September 26-27, and site chiefs have also taken a deep dive into the world of so-called ‘Midnight Movies’ to commemorate the milestone.

    In the 1950s, U.S. TV executives starting running cheap films late at night, with the “Rocky Horror Picture Show”‘s success in the midnight slot really launching the genre – and special programme Do the Time Warp tells the whole story.

    A must-see compilation of other classic cult films is also available for streaming.

As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker (Meat Loaf) and a creepy butler (Richard O’Brien). Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named ‘Rocky.’ ”

    AceShowbiz – Viggo Mortensen paid tribute to Peter Jackson’s influence on him as a filmmaker by including him in the credits of his directorial debut.
    “The Lord of the Rings” actor steps behind the camera for Falling, two decades after he worked with the revered New Zealand director on his epic three-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy novel.
    Speaking at a press conference at Spain’s San Sebastian Film Festival, where he is being honoured for his career on Friday, September 25, Viggo revealed he learned so much working on “The Lord of the Rings”, he has thanked Peter in the credits to his new movie “Falling”.
    “At that time New Zealand had a strong cinema history, but not making films like that,” he explained, according to Variety. “And perhaps nowhere in the world had a director confronted so many challenges. But he solved all the problems.”

    “It was like film school. We shot for a year and a half and then a bit more later and it was incredible to see how that crew and cast of learners turned into experts in so many things.”
    Viggo went on to say he hadn’t planned to star in his new film, about a gay man’s relationship with his conservative father, but did so to get it financed.
    “It wasn’t my idea to act initially, but it was necessary to finance the film,” he said. “But, we prepared so well early on that I knew what we were going do with the director of photography and the art director every day.”
    “I was a bit more tired doing both, but because of our preparation I could pay attention to what was going on in a scene and put my trust into my cast and crew while focusing on my role.”
    “Falling” is set to hit cinemas in December.

    AceShowbiz – Yara Shahidi is about to make magic in her next feature film appearance. The 20-year-old actress has been tapped to play Tinkerbell in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of its classic animation, “Peter Pan and Wendy”.
    This marks the first time ever an actor of color fills the role that traditionally has featured a white actress. It is also the latest of Disney’s efforts to continue representing diversities in its movies after casting Halle Bailey in the lead role of Ariel in upcoming live-action pic “The Little Mermaid (2020)”.
    Shahidi will join Jude Law, who is set to take on the role of Captain Hook, Alexander Molony who will portray Peter Pan, and Ever Anderson who has been cast as Wendy. David Lowery, who directed Pete’s Dragon for the studio, is on board to helm “Peter Pan and Wendy”.

    Lowery has also co-written the script, which is based on Disney’s 1953 animated movie, along with Toby Halbrooks. Jim Whitaker is producing.
    “Peter Pan and Wendy” will be the next of Disney’s live-action remake of its animated classics. The studio recently released Mulan, directed by Niki Caro, on Disney+ due to the coronavirus pandemic, and will be bringing back “The Little Mermaid” on screen with Rob Marshall (“Chicago”, “Mary Poppins Returns”) being attached to direct.
    Shahidi gained recognition for her starring role as the oldest daughter Zoey Johnson on ABC’s sitcom “Black-ish”. The popular and critically-acclaimed series has spanned a spin-off, “Grown-ish”, which premiered in 2018 and also stars Shahidi.
    The actress’ film credits include “Imagine That” (2009), “Smallfoot” (2018), and the lead role in “The Sun Is Also a Star” (2019). She has also lent her voice for the lead role of Melanie in Netflix’s animated movie “Fearless (2020)”. In 2016, Time magazine named her among its annual list of “The 30 Most Influential Teens”.

    AceShowbiz – Nicole Brown Simpson’s diaries will be the centre of a new documentary about her relationship with O.J. Simpson.
    The two-hour Investigation Discovery special, “O.J. & Nicole: An American Tragedy”, will coincide with the 25th anniversary of Simpson’s acquittal in the infamous murder case.
    During the feature, Brown Simpson’s sister, Tanya, will read from the personal notes – including explicit accounts of domestic violence and 60 incidents of beatings. However, according to former CNN reporter Marc Watts, who appears in the film, the details weren’t admissible in O.J.’s subsequent trial.
    The special premieres on 5 October (20) and will also feature appearances by family friend Ron Shipp, plus cops and lawyers who were a part of the investigation.

    “This documentary is not here to retell the famous trial, but to remember the woman who struggled with domestic violence and now tells her side of the story, in her words, for the first time,” said Investigation Discovery’s Henry Schleiff of the project.
    O.J. Simpson was tried on the murder of his ex-wife Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman, who was also found dead outside her home in June 1994. After the highly-publicized trial that spanned eleven months, he was eventually acquitted by a jury.
    He was subsequently slapped with a civil lawsuit by the families of the victims. He was found liable for both deaths and ordered to pay $33.5 million in punitive damages to the Brown and Goldman families.
    Despite escaping the murder charges, Simpson landed in jail years later as he was arrested for robbery and kidnapping in Las Vegas. He was sentenced to 33 years in prison with the possibility of parole after nine year. He was released on parole in 2017.

    AceShowbiz – Season 11 of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills will offer a new thing following Denise Richards and Teddi Mellencamp’s departure from the show. According to a new report, Kathy Hilton is set to appear in the upcoming season of the Bravo reality series as a friend.
    The sister of “RHOBH” cast members Kim Richards and Kyle Richards is reportedly not the only new face to be featured in season 11. “As of now, there has been talk about bringing in one new wife next season,” a source claims to HollywoodLife.com. “She has not been cast yet, but the network is talking to people right now.”
    Meanwhile, season 10 Housewives, Kyle, Garcelle Beauvais, Lisa Rinna and Erika Jayne, have been allegedly scheduled to start filming next month. “The ladies have been told to clear their schedules to begin filming at the end of October as of now,” adds the insider. “That could change, but that’s the plan. They’ll all be coming back except for Teddi and obviously Denise who left at her own choosing.”

    Teddi confirmed his exit from “RHOBH” earlier this month. “I don’t want to bore you, but I figured I could give you a little update on what’s going on. I recently found out that my contract as a Housewife is not being renewed,” she said in the September 22 Instagram video. “Of course I could give you the standard response of, ‘Oh we both came to the decision that it would be best.’ Nah, I’m not going to do that – that’s not who I am. Of course when I got the news I was sad.”
    Likening the firing to “a breakup,” Teddi added, ” [It’s] because you develop such strong relationships with the cast, with the crew.” She continued, “I’m really looking forward to the future and being able to focus on my family, my friends, all in. I really feel like I have some exciting things ahead. And you know what? I’m pretty busy with this lil’ nuggs. So, thanks for coming along on this journey with me and I’ll see you soon.”
    Meanwhile, Dennis announced her departure on September 11. The announcement came following the drama-filled season 10 which saw Denise at the center of controversies. Early in the season, the 49-year-old was accused of “mom-shaming” by other cast members. Additionally, Denise made headlines several times over her alleged affair with Brandi Glanville. The latter also said that Denise tried to shut her up about their hookup because she wanted to save her marriage to Aaron Phypers. Richards, meanwhile, has adamantly denied all the allegations.

    AceShowbiz – YouTube star Arif Zahir has been cast as the new voice of beloved “Family Guy” character Cleveland Brown after Mike Henry left the role.
    Series creator Seth MacFarlane and showrunners Rich Appel and Alec Sulkin announced the casting of the voice actor on Friday (25Sep20), just months after white star Henry walked away from the character to leave the part open for an actor of colour.
    “Firstly, I’m eternally grateful to have received this once in a lifetime opportunity,” Arif said of landing the job as the beloved show regular in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “When I heard that Mike Henry was stepping down from the role of Cleveland Brown – my favorite cartoon character of all time – I was shocked and saddened, assuming we’d never see him again. When I learned I would get to take over the role? Overabundant gratitude. To Mike, you created something truly special and I promise I will do my absolute best to honor your legacy. To Rich Appel, Alec Sulkin and Seth MacFarlane, thank you for this incredible gift. And to the millions of fans who love this show, I promise not to let you down.”

    Henry, who will continue to write and voice other characters on the cartoon, after playing Cleveland for 20 years on “Family Guy” and spinoff “The Cleveland Show” until his departure in June (20), has extended a warm welcome to Zahir in his own separate statement: “I welcome Arif to the Family Guy team. Arif’s vocal talent is obvious, but his understanding of Cleveland and his respect for the character give me confidence that he is in the right hands. I look forward to getting to know Arif and working with him to make sure Cleveland stays every bit as awesome as he has always been.”
    Arif will debut his Cleveland Brown voice in the 19th season of “Family Guy”, which is set to air in 2021 and 2022.
    “Family Guy” is the latest animated programme to commit to reserving non-white character roles for actors of colour, with “The Simpsons”, “Big Mouth”, and “Central Park” also making similar commitments in recent months.

    AceShowbiz – British actor Malcolm McDowell is convinced he and Christine Noonan made history with the first studio nude couple scene in 1968’s “If….”.
    The “A Clockwork Orange” star admits the sequence in question came about very quickly after Noonan dropped her bathrobe.
    “I did my first nude scene in 1968, my first movie, ‘If….’, with this beautiful girl,” McDowell recalls in new documentary “Skin: A History of Nudity in the Movies”. “I think it was the first time in a studio movie that a man and a woman had been naked together.”
    “I went up to the director, Lindsay Anderson, and said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if there was just a cut of us naked; we’re animals’. He went, ‘You ask her (Noonan)’, and so it comes to the end of the day and she comes out in a bathrobe and just drops it. He (Anderson) says, ‘OK, get your trousers off!’ and I went, ‘It’s a bit cold in here isn’t it?’ And he yells, ‘Get your trousers off!'”

    “The first assistant director, when we did the shot, walked off the movie; he was so outraged. Subversive stuff.”
    The sequence might have been McDowell’s first nude scene, but he has since become famous for baring all on screen.
    “This title I have of being naked the most of any young actor of that period was thrust upon me,” he adds. “I did not go seeking it. It was just that I came along at the very moment that the floodgates opened and they decided to allow nudity in movies. And about bloody time…”
    “It was ridiculous. It was sort of the line that was never crossed and when that was breached, Holy God, it was breached. We all came in rushing through (naked)… Of course American actresses did not like to do nudity. They thought if they did, their careers would be tainted in some way. European actresses, everything is on if it’s an integral part of the script.”
