  • Boyzone Eyeing to Cast Zayn Malik for Their Biopic

    WENN

Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch, and Mikey Graham are reportedly working on a movie about their rise to stardom and the former One Direction star is eyed for one of the lead roles.
    Sep 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – Irish boyband Boyzone are hoping to emulate recent box office hits “Bohemian Rhapsody and “Rocketman” with a biopic of their own.
The five-piece was formed in 1993 with Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch, Mikey Graham, and the late Stephen Gately, and scored hits with songs including “Words”, “Love Me for a Reason”, and “No Matter What”.
Speaking to British tabloid The Sun, Lynch teased details of the bandmates’ movie plans, describing the venture as an “amazing project.”
“We’re talking to Hollywood (executives) about turning the Boyzone story into a movie, with an Irish tone,” the 44 year old shared. “It’s important that it’s done right, telling each member’s own story within the piece, about them growing up and at school.”

“We’re trying to avoid the whole musical side of things, it’s about the rawness of Ireland and growing up in working-class families and making it into one of the biggest bands in the world.”
He went on to declare the film would focus more on the band members and their lives rather than the ins and outs of the music industry – as that would be “boring.”
While details have yet to be finalised, Shane already has an idea of who he’d like to portray him, telling the publication, “I would love Zayn Malik to play me. I like his quirks, I’ve always looked at him as being similar to me – edgy and different.”
Following 25 years of hits, Boyzone appeared to call it quits with their farewell album, “Thank You & Goodnight”, which was released in 2018.

Speaking to the media virtually after his big win, the actor said, “Winning another Emmy is the icing on the cake, but to see my daughter progress and move into this place where she’s earned an Emmy is beyond words and I tear up every time I think about it to be honest with you. • 'Antebellum' Star Kiersey Clemons Reveals Reluctance to See Her New Movie

The former Disney star may end up not watching her freaky time-bending movie where she shares screen with Janelle Monae because she’s so scared of scary films.
    Sep 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Antebellum” star Kiersey Clemons won’t be rushing to watch her new movie because she hates scary films.
The actress, who plays a slave girl in the freaky time-bending drama, admits she doesn’t even like to sleep with the lights out at home.
“I don’t like to be scared…,” she tells “Good Morning America”. “I don’t like the dark. I don’t like things about ghosts.”

“But I do like making psychological thrillers and genre-bending movies… more than horror and gore, and I love Halloween – I already decorated my house.”
And Clemons admits she was so scared of co-star Janelle Monae’s character in the new film, released digitally on Friday (18Sep20), she had problems speaking to her when the cameras weren’t rolling.
“I was a huge fan before we got to work together… and she’s the sweetest person, but she would keep her accent and the energy of her character and the character is absolutely terrifying,” the former Disney star explains. “She’d be asking me questions about myself and I’d be like, ‘Are you asking me because you want to kidnap me and enslave me…?’ It was a little difficult.”
The movie revolves around a modern-day African American woman who tries to escape from what appears to be a 19th-century Southern slave plantation. The directorial debut by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz also stars Eric Lange, Jena Malone, Jack Huston, and Gabourey Sidibe.

  • John Leguizamo Boycotting Emmys Due to Lack of Latinx Representation

    WENN

The ‘Super Mario Bros’ actor says there is no reason for him to watch the upcoming Primetime Emmy Awards as he criticizes the organizers over lack of diversity.
    Sep 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actor John Leguizamo won’t be tuning in to the Emmy Awards this Monday (21Sep20), because he doesn’t see “the point.”
The 56-year-old actor told Yahoo! Entertainment that he’s boycotting the ceremony, which are to be hosted virtually, due to the lack of Latinx representation at the awards.
“I’m boycotting,” he said. “If you don’t have Latin people, there’s no reason for me to see it. What’s the point?” He then blamed industry bigwigs for not bringing stories featuring Latino people to the forefront.
“It’s unbelievable that our stories aren’t being told and there’s one reason for that. Executives don’t see us, don’t get us – don’t care about us.”

      See also…

None of the nominees in the major acting categories at the awards are of Latinx heritage, while there are only a handful of actors of colour in the other categories.
John insisted that stories from a Latinx viewpoint make up less than one per cent of the tales told by Hollywood, and labelled it “cultural apartheid.”
“I’m just dying to see positive Latin stories out there,” the “Moulin Rouge!” star added.
The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards is going online as the ceremony is set to take place September 20. “Watchmen” led the nominations with eleven while “Succession” follows with ten and “Ozark” with nine.
While the winners will be accepting the awards from their homes, Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the event live from an empty Staples Center in Los Angeles. “People are gonna win an Emmy in their house with their, hopefully, family and maybe their parents and maybe a couple of people that they trust, and I hope it will be exciting to see that excitement…,” he told “Good Morning America”.

  • Jaden Smith to Tackle Racial and Social Justice on New Snapchat Series

The ‘After Earth’ actor has been signed on to host ‘The Solution Committee’ where he is expected to discuss serious issues with his family members and famous guests.
    Sep 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actor and influencer Jaden Smith is to front a new racial and justice series on Snapchat.
The 22-year-old star will host “The Solution Committee” on the social messaging app in a bid to encourage young people to vote in the upcoming U.S. presidential election by seeking out activists and celebrities to break down serious issues.
“(The Solution Committee aims) to explore and understand what we can do to create change around the most important racial and social justice issues of our time,” Jaden said in a statement. “Historically people between the ages of 18 to 23 have been less likely to vote. This is because a lot of young people feel like they don’t have the information or know where to get it. This show is about educating the youth and making sure they feel empowered and ready to vote.”
Jaden has invited a number of his famous friends and family members to appear on the Snap Original series, including Hailey Bieber, Common, his sister Willow, Janelle Monae, Yara Shahidi, and Lena Waithe, to discuss topics like criminal justice and education reform and voting access.

Jaden’s mother Jada Pinkett Smith, meanwhile, hosts a popular Facebook Watch show “Red Table Talk” where the Smith clan are frequent guests as well.

  • 'Elf' Sequel Will Never Happen Due to Feud Between Will Ferrell and Director Jon Favreau

    WENN

James Caan reveals the friction between Will Ferrell and Jon Favreau as he opens up about the real reason why the plan for ‘Elf’ second movie has been scrapped.
    Sep 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actor James Caan has opened up on why holiday favourite movie “Elf” never received a sequel.
The flick centres on Will Ferrell’s character Buddy, who was raised by elves and is shocked to find out he’s actually a human who stowed away in Santa’s sack.
He goes in search of his real father in New York City, hoping to start a relationship with him and make him believe in the magic of Christmas again.
Since its 2003 release, the film has been hailed as a Christmas classic by fans, and Caan, who appears as Walter Hobbs, a children’s book publisher and Buddy’s biological father, in the flick, reflected on its legacy during a chat with Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan’s Bull & Fox show.

According to the star, there were plans to “do (a sequel) and I thought, ‘Oh my god, I finally got a franchise movie, I could make some money, let my kids do what the hell they want to do.’ ”
However, it didn’t come to fruition because “the director and Will didn’t get along very well… So, Will wanted to do it, he didn’t want the director, and he had it in his contract, it was one of those things.”
“Elf” also stars Zooey Deschanel, Mary Steenburgen, Ed Asner, and Bob Newhart.
Directed by Jon Favreau, the holiday movie grossed $220 million worldwide against a $33 million budget and inspired a Broadway musical. Favreau had made public his desire to do a sequel, but Ferrell squashed it every time.

  • 'Cuties' Gets Support From French Film Officials Amid Backlash in U.S.

    Netflix

France’s top film organization cites ‘the freedom of artistic creation and expression’ as they support the Netflix movie which sparks outrage for allegedly sexualizing children.
    Sep 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Officials at France’s top film organisation Unifrance have pledged to support director Maimouna Doucour’s documentary “Cuties”, insisting critics who have blasted the film in America have missed the point.
The controversial film chronicles the story of an 11-year-old Senegalese girl in Paris, who joins a free-spirited dance troupe to escape family dysfunction.
The movie won acclaim when it debuted at January’s (20) Sundance Film Festival in Utah for its portrayal of the hypersexualisation of pre-teen girls, and Netflix bosses brokered a deal for the worldwide rights for the project and launched it earlier this month (Sep20) on the streaming platform.
The film came out amid drama linked to a promotional poster, featuring its young stars, which critics slammed for being inappropriate and suggestive. Some went so far as to create a #CancelNetflix movement over the billboard and Doucour has since revealed she received death threats over the controversy.

Now, officials at the French government-backed film group have pledged their full support to the filmmaker and the movie’s producers in a statement released on Friday (18Sep20), which reads in part, “Over the past several weeks, we have been closely following the exceptionally violent reaction to the film in the United States, during a presidential election campaign in full swing.”
“In this context, UniFrance and all of its members wish to pledge their full support to Maimouna Doucoure and to reaffirm their commitment to supporting the freedom of artistic creation and expression. This is because one of the great strengths of cinema is its capacity to reach beyond borders and boundaries, and to offer a critical and constructive viewpoint on the world and the excesses of today’s societies.”
Doucour also spoke out about the movie this week (14Sep20) at a Toronto Film Festival panel in Canada, promoted by UniFrance. She insisted her intention in making Cuties was to “sound the alarm” on the subject of “protecting our children.”
Netflix bosses also previously defended their contentious acquisition in a statement to Variety, describing Cuties as “a social commentary against the sexualization of young children… and a powerful story about the pressure young girls face on social media and from society more generally growing up.”
They added, “We’d encourage anyone who cares about these important issues to watch the movie.”
