Netflix Apologizes to 'Byron Baes' Cast for 'Hated' PR Post Amid Backlash

    Netflix

Meanwhile, Byron locals are not happy with the docusoap as they reportedly paddle out into the ocean to protest the show in addition to launching a petition against the new project.

    May 3, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Netflix’s upcoming docusoap “Byron Baes” has yet to premiere but the show is already drawing backlash not only from Byron locals but also from its cast. It has been reported that the cast members, who have yet to be revealed, are not happy with the show labeling them as “influencers” and “hot Instagrammers” in an Instagram post teasing the new project.

In response to the backlash, Netflix’s Director of Originals in Australia Que Minh Luu took to her Twitter account to share that the streaming giant had apologized to the cast for the recent PR post. “A postcard’s worth of copy doesn’t tell the whole story of what the show is. It looks at human connection, ambition, image and what lies underneath – not all glossy, often contradictory. Like the place itself. Byron is a symbol to so many Australians,” Luu began her thread.

“It is a reality show & it has craft. It is hella entertaining & it is complex. These are not mutually exclusive. The team & participants are committed, hardworking, with heart & incredible stories to tell,” she went on to say. “I’ve never made reality before and want to do something new with it – with Eureka we’re levelling s**t up. BTW, the craft and skill that goes into reality is kinda incredible??”

Of the cast members, Luu explained, “The participants number in the double digits, a quarter born/raised in the area, most have lived there a meaningful length of time, a few newer to the area…kinda like how Byron works. They are artists, musicians, entrepreneurs, business owners, models, on a spiritual journey and more. They understand the power of influence. They are part of Byron. They understand the creative vision of the show that has been developed with them over several months.”

In the next tweet, Luu confirmed that most of the cast members “hated the press release too!” That prompted her to do “a lot of apologising that week. Fired the PR team (lol joking about firing, we’re all learning together).”

Luu added, “Anyhoo, there’s more to influencing than you think, there’s more to Byron than the image, and there’s more to the show. No doubt it won’t be for everyone, but it’ll authentic, honest and layered and FUN. Also a docusoap! Can’t wait to share it.”

Concluding the thread, she wrote, “Last thought: soap operas get trashed a lot but they’re often a conversation starter for families, communities about current issues…when Warren and I created The Heights it was with all the respect for the genre’s place in culture and what value we could add to it x.”

That aside, locals were not supportive of “Byron Baes” as they reportedly thought the show would affect badly to the beach. It was said that the folks paddled out into the ocean to protest the show in addition to launching a petition against the docusoap.

Danny Huston Recalls Desperation to Impress Director Father With Own Skills

    WENN/Avalon

Serving behind the lens for the first time in 20 years, ‘The Last Photograph’ helmer looks back at time time his legendary father John Huston gave one of his first lessons in directing.

    May 3, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Danny Huston was always keen to impress his late father, filmmaking icon John Huston, with his own directing skills.

The 58-year-old star has directed his first movie for over 20 years, “The Last Photograph”, and revealed he would have liked to have done more behind the camera but was unable to find support for his films.

“I started off as a director,” he said. “I just sort of fell into acting because I wasn’t able to get my directing projects off the ground and friends started casting me in their films out of the kindness of their hearts.”

Huston is also the star of the film, playing Tom Hammond, who searches for a stolen photograph of his son Luke, who was killed during the Lockerbie plane bombing in Scotland in 1988 – and describes the flick as “simple” and “beautiful”.

Danny’s filmmaker father John, who died in 1987, wrote the screenplays for most of the 37 feature films he directed, many of which are considered classics, including “The Maltese Falcon”, “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre”, and “The African Queen”. And the actor/ director recalled being desperate to impress him with his own skills behind the camera.

The “Angel Has Fallen” star shared, “When I studied at the London International Film School, not a lot of fuss was made about it. I felt more pressure from my father.”

“I remember I had a little Super 8 camera and I was filming everywhere and everything, and he would be like, ‘Stop that! What are you doing? When you look from right to left and left to right, what do you do?’ ”

“I said, ‘I don’t know, Dad.’ He said, ‘You blink. That’s a cut. Concentrate on what it is you are trying to say and forget all of the nonsense.’ That was one of my first lessons. I was so proud when I directed a title sequence for him for his film ‘Under The Volcano’ and it made the cut.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger Grateful to Stan Lee for Creating His Dream Role in 'Superhero Kindergarten'

    WENN

The former Governor of California is thrilled for the release of his new family-friendly show which was created by Stan Lee specifically for the ‘Predator’ actor.

    May 3, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Arnold Schwarzenegger is a big hit with tiny kids at last – thanks to the creator of his new show “Superhero Kindergarten”.

The actor and former Governor of California made his name in adult action films like “The Terminator” and “Predator”, which were full of guns and violent scenes unsuitable for youngsters, but his new Amazon Prime Series has given him access kindergarteners, and it’s all thanks to late Marvel boss Stan Lee.

“He (Lee) asked (me) my dream of what movie I wanted to do next and I said to him, ‘I always wanted to do a sequel to (comedy film) Kindergarten Cop…,” Arnie told Kelly Clarkson on her U.S. daytime talk show.

“He thought for a few seconds and said, ‘I have an idea for an animated show. What about Superhero Kindergarten, where you’re a kindergarten teacher for kids who have superpowers – wouldn’t that be great? You have been a superhero yourself (in the show) but you’re now retired and… teaching those kids how to be good contributors and how to save the world in the future.’ ”

The star, who plays Arnold Armstrong – aka Captain Courage – in the cartoon series, loves his new role but he regrets the legend behind his new show didn’t live to see the finished product.

“The sad story is that he (Stan) passed since then and didn’t really see the final product, but I think that he would be very happy…,” Schwarzenegger added, “because it came out fantastic and very entertaining. I’m very happy about it because… most of the movies I’ve done were all R-rated (adult) action movies.”

“It was a competition between me and (Sylvester) Stallone – who is killing more people on the screen, who is using bigger guns, who can brutalise people the worst way.”

“Finally I do a project for little kids, for five year olds. Anyone from two years to 10 years (old) will enjoy the show.”

Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson Turning His Siege of Sarajevo Concert Into Movie

    WENN

The rocker is teaming up with ‘My Dinner With Herve’ filmmaker Sacha Gervasi to write a screenplay about his concert during the historic Siege of Sarajevo in 1994.

    May 2, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson is teaming up with “My Dinner With Herve” filmmaker Sacha Gervasi to co-write a screenplay about the rock concert he headlined during the Siege of Sarajevo in 1994.

The rocker and his band, Skunkworks, were smuggled into the city by United Nations officials to play a concert as the Bosnian war raged around them.

The gig was captured for the documentary “Scream for Me Sarajevo”, which also covered the siege – the longest in modern history, lasting over 1,420 days and resulting in the deaths of over 11,000 people.

Dickinson was later awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Sarajevo for his bravery.

Announcing the new film this week (ends30Apr21), Bruce said, “The few incredible days I spent in Sarajevo with my solo band pre-Christmas in 1994 were some of the most intense of my life.”

“Crafting a story to bring the emotions, madness, tragedy and triumph to the screen is no easy task. My own journey was as a long haired heavy metal singer driving through firefights into a city that had been under siege longer than Stalingrad. Mine was not, of course, the only journey taken on that day, and afterwards, at home in London, I left behind in Sarajevo travelling companions on the road of life. This movie is actually dedicated to their story, not mine.”

Gervasi added, “The real story of the kids and local musicians who attended that show is as poignant as it is inspiring. Many of them didn’t make it. As Bruce has already said, we hope this film will be a tribute to them.”

Jodie Turner-Smith 'Gave It All' During 'Without Remorse' Filming Despite Being Pregnant

    Amazon Studios

The ‘Queen and Slim’ actress talks about the challenges of filming her new action movie, claiming her pregnancy added ‘a layer of complexity’ to her role.

    May 2, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Jodie Turner-Smith’s pregnancy added “a layer of complexity” to her starring role in action film “Without Remorse”.

The 34-year-old actress stars as Lt. Commander Karen Greer in the movie based on Tom Clancy’s novel and opened up about the challenges of filming while she was expecting her baby daughter.

Jodie, who welcomed 12-month-old Janie to the world with husband, actor Joshua Jackson in April 2020, said, “(Training) wasn’t straightforward because I was pregnant, so that definitely added a layer of complexity to it. But I went after it. I gave it all of myself.”

The “Queen & Slim” star continued, “We worked really closely with these guys on set who were there to teach us how to operate in combat, how to move with and around each other, how to talk to each other.”

“We’re emulating guys who have been working together, alongside each other for years, so there needed to be a sense of familiarity and comfort and ease to how they work together.”

      See also…

Jodie also revealed how her pregnancy made it more difficult to shoot underwater stunts.

She told Variety, “I don’t know if you know this, but when you are pregnant, it’s very hard to hold your breath. So, I had unique challenges that my co-stars didn’t have.”

Turner-Smith also loved having the opportunity to play a trailblazing character in the form of a female Navy SEAL.

She explained, “I love that filmmakers wanted to create this character, to envision this woman. There’s not a female Navy SEAL right now, but there will be soon. I feel that is what we’re moving towards.”

“It felt very cool to embody this a little bit ahead of the curve. And to hopefully honour and bring a good representation to women around the world who are serving in the armed forces right now.”
