  • Warner Bros. Refuses to Release Big-Budgeted 'Tenet' as Video on Demand

    Warner Bros. Pictures

Warner Brothers has no plan to release Christopher Nolan’s latest big-budgeted movie on home entertainment platforms because it’s ‘meant for the big screen.’
    Sep 6, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ann Sarnoff, CEO of Warner Bros., insists bosses at the studio had no plans to release Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster “Tenet” straight to premium video on demand (PVOD).
The highly anticipated time-twisting spy thriller is now playing in theatres worldwide and, despite rumours claiming that Nolan was controlling the studio’s decisions regarding the release of the film, Sarnoff insists there’s no truth in the speculation.
“It’s overstated. Let me share with you the process that we went through,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Right when Covid struck, we started looking at alternative ways to think about movie releases.”
Although they made the decision to debut some releases, such as the animated Scooby Doo movie “Scoob!”, on home entertainment platforms, she insists they “started thinking about more innovative ways of releasing” Tenet.
“Theatres were very upfront about saying they could give us three to four times as many screens as normal,” she shares. “So that started to change our thinking. We are happy with where we are. Some markets still aren’t open, but it is a marathon and not a sprint.”
When asked if the studio ever considered putting the movie on demand, she says, “No. It is a remarkable, cinematic, beautiful film. It is so impactful. It is a movie meant for the big screen. I’m very proud of our approach. A lot of people are pushing stuff into next year. Tenet absolutely deserves to be seen in theatres.”
“Tenet”, starring John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Elizabeth Debicki, opened in 41 markets outside North America last weekend (28-30Aug20), scoring a strong post-coronavirus box office comeback with a $53 million (£39.7 million) theatrical launch. It opened in U.S. theatres this week.

    WENN

The new ‘9-1-1’ spin-off fronted by Rob Lowe is expanding with the addition of Gina Torres as a new series regular for the upcoming sophomore installment.
    Sep 6, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actress Gina Torres will reunite with showrunner Tim Minear for a regular role on “9-1-1: Lone Star”.
The former “Suits” actress worked with Minear on the sci-fi classic “Firefly” in 2002, and they’re set to reunite as Torres begins work on the show as Tommy Vega – a once prolific paramedic captain who called it quits eight years earlier in order to raise her two twin daughters.
With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing her husband’s restaurant out of business, Vega is getting back in the saddle and re-entering the workforce to support her family and show the world she’s still got what it takes.
“We are so excited to be expanding our 911-verse with the addition of Gina Torres,” said Minear. “I’ve been dying to write for her again ever since Firefly.”
“Gina brings warmth, intelligence and command to everything she does. 2020 is finally looking up,” he added.
“9-1-1: Lone Star” is slated to resume filming this autumn (20) and the series is scheduled to premiere in early 2021.

  • Ray Fisher Refuses to Cooperate in Misconduct Investigation Into Director Joss Whedon

    WENN

The Cyborg depicter is reportedly not cooperative with a third-party investigator hired by Warner Brothers to investigate the misconduct allegations against ‘Justice League’ director.
    Sep 6, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Justice League” star Ray Fisher is apparently refusing to cooperate with a misconduct investigation into director Joss Whedon.
Back in July (20), Fisher aired his grievances against the filmmaker, accusing him of “abusive and unprofessional” behaviour.
The Cyborg actor’s claims have since caused Warner Bros. to launch a misconduct investigation into Whedon and Geoff Johns and Jon Berg, producers of the 2017 flick.
According to a statement released by studio executives, however, Fisher has not been cooperating with an independent third party investigator, who was hired at his request.
“In July, Ray Fisher’s representatives asked DC Films President Walter Hamada to talk to Mr. Fisher about his concerns during the production of Justice League,” a spokesperson wrote. “The two had previously spoken when Mr. Hamada asked him to reprise his role as Cyborg in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Flash movie, together with other members of the Justice League.”
They recalled Fisher “recounted disagreements he’d had with the film’s creative team regarding his portrayal of Cyborg, and complained that his suggested script revisions were not adopted,” adding that Hamanda, “explained that creative differences are a normal part of the production process, and that a film’s writer/director ultimately has to be in charge of these matters.”
The statement was released just hours after Fisher took to Twitter, and told his followers Hamada had attempted to “throw” Whedon and Berg “under the bus in hopes that I would relent on Geoff Johns.”
Warner Bros. chiefs denied the suggestion, with the spokesperson continuing, “Mr. Hamada also told Mr. Fisher that he would elevate his concerns to WarnerMedia so they could conduct an investigation. At no time did Mr. Hamada ever ‘throw anyone under the bus,’ as Mr. Fisher has falsely claimed, or render any judgments about the Justice League production, in which Mr. Hamada had no involvement, since filming occurred before Mr. Hamada was elevated to his current position.”
They continued, “While Mr. Fisher never alleged any actionable misconduct against him, WarnerMedia nonetheless initiated an investigation into the concerns he’d raised about his character’s portrayal. Still not satisfied, Mr. Fisher insisted that WarnerMedia hire an independent third party investigator.”
“This investigator has attempted multiple times to meet with Mr. Fisher to discuss his concerns but, to date, Mr. Fisher has declined to speak to the investigator,” it concludes.

  • Zendaya Responds to 'Kill Bill 3' Rumors

    WENN

The ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ actress is ‘flattered’ by the ‘Kill Bill’ speculations after original star Vivica A. Fox is keen to have her as onscreen daughter.
    Sep 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – [u=url_address/celebrity/zendaya_coleman/ying the grown-up daughter of Vernita Green in a third “Kill Bill” film.
Vivica A. Fox, who played Green on the big screen, dropped her name recently when she was asked to cast a potential “Kill Bill 3”, while suggesting director Quentin Tarantino should base the follow-up around her character’s kid, Nikki.
“I was doing an interview and they asked, ‘What young actress would you get to play your daughter?’ ” Fox said, “and I was like (original star) ‘Ambrosia (Kelley)’. But they meant an established actress. So I went, ‘Zendaya!’ How hot would that be? And that would probably green light this project… Hopefully now we can put that out, like, ‘Tarantino, cast Zendaya!’ – and spark his interest to put it on the fast track. Wouldn’t it be amazing?”
Movie chat sites have run with the idea and a new synopsis for the film reportedly appeared on IMDb last week, reading, “After witnessing the brutal murder of her mother at the hands of Beatrix (Uma Thurman), Nikki Bell (Zendaya) wreaks vengeance on the woman who destroyed her family at a young age.”
But Zendaya insists that’s just wishful thinking, telling Empire, “I was quite honoured that she (Fox) would say that. Obviously she’s incredible, and I’m very flattered that she would think of me. But, you know, it’s just an idea. The internet kinda takes things and runs with it.”

  • Brie Larson Initially Thought 'Captain Marvel' Was Too Big for Her, Rejected It Multiple Times

    Marvel Studios

The ‘Room’ actress repeatedly turned down the superhero role because she didn’t think she could handle it before she eventually agreed to take on the project.
    Sep 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – Brie Larson originally turned down her acclaimed role as “Captain Marvel” because she “didn’t think I could handle that.”
The Oscar-winning actress explained in her new YouTube video that she originally said “no” to the role multiple times, but Marvel bosses kept pursuing her.
When she was asked about her interest in the role, Brie, who was working on “Kong: Skull Island” at the time, said, “Oh, I can’t do that. I have too much anxiety. That’s too much for me. I don’t think I could handle that.”
Officials from the company called again several months later, and she told them, “I’m too much of an introvert. That’s way too big of a thing for me,” admitting in the online video, “It was beyond my comprehension.”
However, after the star finished filming “Kong”, she had a meeting with staff from Marvel and she was “very moved by what they were trying to achieve, with what they were talking about,” noting, “It felt very progressive.”
“I was very surprised by the way that they were talking about feminism and the way they were handling it,” Brie added. “They were like all female writers. Female director. Going to have as many female voices in this as possible.”
Brie has appeared as Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers twice, including in “Avengers: Endgame”. A sequel to her solo adventure is in the works, and is currently slated for a 2022 release.

The new project ‘Cortes Y Moctezuma’ produced by Diego Luna has been shelved amid the ongoing pandemic after the production was halted two weeks into the filming.
    Sep 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – Oscar winner Javier Bardem’s epic mini-series “Cortes Y Moctezuma” has become the first major TV casualty of COVID-19.
The period drama, executive produced by Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, has been scrapped by bosses at Amazon Studios and Amblin Partners after shooting for just two weeks in Mexico before the lockdown in March (20), according to Deadline.
The project was once described as the largest Spanish-language production of all time.
Written by Oscar winner Steve Zaillian, its cast also included Tenoch Huerta and Yoshira Escarrega.
“Due to the production constraints created by the COVID-19 global pandemic, Amazon Studios and Amblin Partners are unable to move forward with production on our Cortes y Moctezuma series,” a statement reads. “In the current climate, there is unfortunately no way to remount the production in the near future to achieve the scale and scope that was intended and that the series deserves.”
“We have nothing but admiration and respect for Javier, Tenoch, Yoshira, Gael, Diego, Steve Zaillian, and the entire cast and crew of the series and hope we can work together again in the future.”
The project has been in the works since 2014 and at one point was considered a movie vehicle for Amblin executive Steven Spielberg.
