    WENN

The ‘Black Panther’ actor, who passed away after a secret, four-year cancer battle, stars opposite Viola Davis in Netflix’s ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’, which is produced by Denzel Washington.
    Aug 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – A virtual preview for Chadwick Boseman’s final film has been scrapped out of respect for the late actor.
Netflix bosses had been due to host an online event on Monday (August 31) for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, the movie adaptation of August Wilson’s play of the same name, in which the “Black Panther” star had featured alongside Viola Davis.
However, in light of Boseman’s passing from a secret, four-year cancer battle on Friday (August 28), officials have chosen to scrap the preview, which was due to include commentary from Davis and director George C. Wolfe.
In a statement issued to Deadline.com, a Netflix representative said, “This is an incredible loss. We are canceling Monday’s preview event of ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’. Please join us in sending your thoughts to his family and loved ones.”
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos added, “Chadwick was a superhero on screen and in life, and it’s impossible to imagine working at the level he has while valiantly battling his illness.”
“His legacy as a person and an artist will inspire millions. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this difficult time.”
Meanwhile, Davis has shared her tribute to Boseman on social media, writing, “Chadwick…..no words to express my devastation of losing you. Your talent, your spirit, your heart, your authenticity…”
“It was an honor working beside you, getting to know you….Rest well prince…May flights of angels sing thee to thy heavenly rest. I love you!”

And Denzel Washington, who serves as a producer on “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, has remembered Boseman too, years after paying for the Howard University graduate to attend an acting programme at Oxford University in England.
“He was a gentle soul and a brilliant artist, who will stay with us for eternity through his iconic performances over his short yet illustrious career,” Washington wrote. “God bless Chadwick Boseman.”
A release date for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” has yet to be announced.

  • 'Tenet' Leads Post-Coronavirus Box Office With $53 Million Global Debut

    Warner Bros.

The Christopher Nolan-directed new thriller has finally got its theatrical launch in 41 markets outside North America, while ‘X-Men’ spin-off ‘The New Mutants’ earns $7 million domestically.
    Aug 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – Christopher Nolan’s new thriller “Tenet” is leading the post-coronavirus box office comeback with a $53 million (£39.7 million) theatrical launch.
The Warner Bros. release, starring Robert Pattinson, John David Washington and Elizabeth Debicki opened in 41 markets outside North America this weekend (August 28-30), scoring its strongest start in the U.K., where it banked $7.1 million (£5.3 million).
Praising the impressive opening as “a fantastic start,” studio chairman Toby Emmerich stated, “Given the unprecedented circumstances of this global release we know we’re running a marathon, not a sprint, and look forward to long playability for this film globally for many weeks to come.”
“Tenet” is still yet to open in the two largest markets of China and the U.S., where it will launch on September 3, in time for America’s Labor Day bank holiday weekend.
U.S. theater-goers instead flocked to check out the long-delayed “X-Men” spin-off “The New Mutants”, which grossed $7 million (£5.2 million) – the biggest opening for any new film since the COVID-19 shutdown, even though it was panned by critics and cinemas remained shuttered in a number of states, including California and New York.
Keanu Reeves’ “Bill & Ted Face the Music” was another new release, debuting on both video-on-demand and in select theaters, where it made just under $1.1 million (£824,000), as was “The Personal History of David Copperfield”, a Charles Dickens adaptation starring Dev Patel, which opened with $520,000 (£389,600) from 1,360 theaters.

  • Russo Brothers and Robert Downey Jr. Add Tributes to Chadwick Boseman as TV Special Airs on ABC

    WENN

The ‘Avengers: Endgame’ directors and ‘Iron Man’ star become the latest Marvel stars to remember the late ‘Black Panther’ actor while ABC pays homage with a TV special.
    Aug 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – Marvel moviemakers Joe and Anthony Russo are struggling to come to terms with the shocking loss of Chadwick Boseman, admitting the news is “hard to process.”
The directing siblings cast the tragic actor as Black Panther/T’Challa in “Captain America: Civil War”, the 2016 movie which introduced the character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and led to the stand alone “Black Panther” movie in 2018.
They reunited for “Avengers: Infinity War” and its sequel, “Endgame”, while the Russo brothers also served as producers on Boseman’s “21 Bridges” action thriller last year (19), and they are heartbroken by his premature death following a private, four-year cancer battle.
“This is hard to process,” they share in a short statement to Deadline.
“Chadwick was an incredibly elegant and thoughtful individual who conveyed dignity and integrity in a way that very few could. A tremendous talent who inspired a generation to stand up and be king. He understood something unique and noble about life, and was determined to use his talents in ways that impacted. He had so much to give…”
Boseman’s Marvel co-stars Don Cheadle, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Brie Larson, and Mark Ruffalo were among the first to express their sadness online after the news broke on Friday night (28Aug20), and “Iron Man” actor Robert Downey Jr. has since added to the tributes.
“Mr. Boseman leveled the playing field while fighting for his life… That’s heroism… I’ll remember the good times, the laughter, and the way he changed the game #chadwickforever,” he posted, alongside video footage of the pals messing around.
Gwyneth Paltrow, Angela Bassett, Sterling K. Brown, and Samuel L. Jackson are among the colleagues who have also honoured his memory on social media, as have Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, Disney chief Bob Iger, and “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler.
A U.S. TV special has been organised to air on the Disney-owned ABC network on Sunday night, following a commercial-free broadcast of “Black Panther”.
“Chadwick Boseman – A Tribute for a King” will celebrate the actor’s life and career, and reflect on his legacy and the cultural impact he had both on and off-camera.
It will also shed light on the disease which claimed his life – colon cancer, an illness he kept under wraps while paying special hospital visits to children with terminal health conditions. A representative for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital charity shared images of Boseman with young fans online and wrote, “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our friend Chadwick Boseman.”
“Two years ago, Chadwick visited the St. Jude campus and brought with him not only toys for our patients but also joy, courage and inspiration. He was an incredible role model for our patients and children from all around the world. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.”
And officials at the Colorectal Cancer Alliance have taken the opportunity to raise awareness about colon cancer, a “young-onset” disease which is “on the rise and cuts short thousands of lives every year.”
CEO Michael Sapienza added, “Colorectal cancer benefits from an intense stigma, particularly in the Black community. Cancer is a personal battle, and we respect Boseman’s choice to shield the public from his diagnosis. The Alliance, however, encourages open conversations about this disease. Even superheroes can develop colorectal cancer…”
“With education and awareness to defeat the stigma, resources for those diagnosed, and innovative research toward cures, we can end colorectal cancer in our lifetime.”

  • Daisy Ridley Struggling to Find Job After 'Star Wars'

    WENN

The new heroine of the ‘Star Wars’ sequel trilogy admits to getting rejected from a lot of auditions following her onscreen role in the galaxy far far away.
    Aug 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – Daisy Ridley has struggled to secure work since starring in the “Star Wars” film franchise.
The 28-year-old actress was cast as scavenger-turned-Jedi Rey in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in 2015, and went on to reprise the role in 2017 sequel, “The Last Jedi”, and 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker”.
But despite being being lauded for her performance, the British star tells Entertainment Weekly she had her confidence rattled when no one would hire her following the early career success.
“Weirdly, at the beginning of the year nothing was coming through. I was like, ‘Aww! No one wants to employ me,’ ” she explains. “There were actually loads of things that I auditioned for at the beginning of the year and didn’t get any of them.”
“I had that moment of ‘Oh my god!’ and then just thought ‘everything in its right time,’ ” the star reflects.
While Daisy’s struggled to pick up work, she won’t be absent from screens and is set to appear in upcoming film “Chaos Walking”, co-starring “Spider-Man” actor Tom Holland and directed by “The Bourne Identity” ‘s director Doug Liman.
Originally filmed in 2017, the movie was due for release way back in March, 2019 – but the release date was moved to account for reshoots. The sci-fi drama – based on Patrick Ness’s 2008 novel “The Knife of Never Letting Go” – is due to hit cinemas from 22 January, 2021.

  • Sean Baker Denies Developing OnlyFans Movie With Bella Thorne

    Instagram

The ‘Tangerine’ director admits he has talked to the former Disney actress following her huge gain on the X-rated social media app but he insists he’s not attached to her movie project.
    Aug 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Filmmaker Sean Baker denied that he is working with Bella Thorne on a movie about her time on OnlyFans.
The former Disney star made history on the adult subscription service last week (ends21Aug20) by becoming the first account holder to bank $1 million (£760,000) in her first 24 hours.
She has since doubled her earnings, and told Paper Magazine that she was working with Sean on a film about the website, saying the pair share “the same vision of the movie being a conversation starter for many important topics.”
However, speaking to the Los Angeles Times, “The Florida Project” director has insisted, “I would like to make it clear that the news of me making a film (documentary or fiction narrative) about OnlyFans and using Bella Thorne as research is false.”
“I’m NOT attached to this project. I’m actually in development on two features that I’ve put years of research and love in to and neither of these films have anything to do with Ms. Thorne or OnlyFans,” he stated.
“Earlier this month I had a conversation with Ms. Thorne and discussed a possible collaboration in the far future that would focus on her life and the circumstances leading to her joining OnlyFans,” Sean added.
Sean’s statement came after Bella received backlash for her use of OnlyFans, after fans blamed her for the website instating new policies that will negatively affect content creators by placing limits on their potential earnings – an issue he said he discussed with her.
“On that call, I advised her team to consult with sex workers and address the way she went about this as to NOT hurt the sex work industry. This has been the extent of my involvement.”
