    Instagram

The ‘Bloody Valentine’ star has been tapped to play a lead role in a new spooky podcast drama series where R. Kelly and Phil Spector are portrayed as demonic hosts.
    Aug 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Rap-rocker Machine Gun Kelly has scared up a spooky new project ahead of the Halloween holiday (31Oct20) – he’ll lead the cast of the first-ever horror musical podcast.
The “Concert for Aliens” hitmaker, who is dating actress Megan Fox, dreamed up “Halloween in Hell” with Audio Up CEO Jared Gutstadt, and the four-part series is unlike anything ever produced before, reports NME.com.
Set during the ghostly season, the unique podcast will also feature performance artist and musician Dana Dentata, and rappers iann dior and 24kGoldn, all of whom will play imaginary versions of themselves.
It will also include a soundtrack album featuring contributions from each artist.
In the fictional tale, 24kGoldn and Dentata are trying to escape from a soundstage, which is meant to represent hell, but they must battle their evil captor, who has tricked them into taking part in a competition. And to win their release, they must pass muster with an evil jury of the damned, represented by two controversial musical figures, both currently incarcerated – singer R. Kelly, who is being held behind bars on sexual assault charges, and famed producer Phil Spector, who was jailed in 2009 for second degree murder.
“Halloween In Hell” will debut on 10 October (20) on all podcast platforms, and comes with a special trick or treat on the side – a four-part documentary about the production.

  • 'High School Musical' Director Finds His Next Vanessa Hudgens for New Series

    WENN

‘HSM’ mastermind Kenny Ortega is confident the new actress tapped for his upcoming Netflix series ‘Julie & the Phantoms’ will be the next Vanessa Hudgens or Ashley Tisdale.
    Aug 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Kenny Ortega, the brains behind the “High School Musical” franchise, knew he’d found another teenage superstar when he put her up against some of the best young talent in Hollywood for the lead in his new Netflix series.
The director and choreographer’s longtime casting agents, Jason La Padura and Natalie Hart, sent out open calls to the top arts high schools in America and received 300 auditions, on top of the 400 sent in from all around the globe, as Ortega started working on “Julie & the Phantoms” for the streaming service.
They shortlisted a talented few and handed the video auditions to Kenny, who immediately fell in love with 14-year-old Madison Reyes, and now he’s confident she’ll become the next Vanessa Hudgens or Ashley Tisdale – two of his “High School Musical” superstars.
“Madison had never been in front of a camera in her life,” Ortega tells WENN. “She dragged her electric piano into a storage room in her house, asked her family to be quiet, and recorded her audition.”
“She played every character in the scene – she didn’t know she only had to read her role. And when I saw that audition I just knew that she was our Julie, and that she could bring authenticity and heart to the role. And my instinct was right. We brought Madison to Los Angeles, and we put her up against some of the most extraordinary talent of her age in the industry, and she was able to win the role with unanimous support from everyone.”
And Ortega was delighted his lead was a Latina, “I wanted to tell a story that featured a Latina lead. I wanted to put a hero out there for young ladies who haven’t had many, but who was also a character that everyone could identify with, and whose heart would engage everyone. I was looking for a girl who was going to find a way to bring herself into the role, not just have to imagine it, but could also use her own young life experience to make it real.”
“And then, to top it all off, she’d have to be able to play an instrument, be able to hit the notes, and be able to work well with the other actors. And this little girl came in and just nailed it. She just delivered all of it.”
“Julie & the Phantoms” debuts on Netflix on 4 September (20).

  • 'New Mutants' Director Sneers at Lame and Calculated Gay Kiss in 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker'

    Walt Disney Pictures

Filmmaker Josh Boone is not really a fan of the background same-sex kissing scene in the third installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy as he calls it ’embarrassing.’
    Aug 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – “The New Mutants” director Josh Boone has slammed the gay kiss featured in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” as lame.
The filmmaker has hit out at the background smooch in the 2019 sci-fi blockbuster between characters played by Amanda Lawrence and Vinette Robinson, which made cinematic history as the first of its kind in “Star Wars” franchise history, dubbing it “the most embarrassing” example of LGBTQ intimacy onscreen.
“It was just somebody in the background and (the filmmakers) were like, ‘We’ll put out articles as if this is something you should pay attention to,’ ” Boone told Too Fab.
Josh’s newest film “The New Mutants” features a gay kiss between characters portrayed by Maisie Williams and Blu Hunt, and he hopes audiences will view the scene as an organic instance of affection.
“We didn’t put this (kiss) in to be confrontational or really even in a calculated way, it just happened naturally,” he explained. “We wrote it because the characters in the comic have like an intimate telepathic connection and it just sort of felt like the right thing to do, and it was more of a gentle thing and a coming of age thing than it was a sexual thing.”
And Boone foresees the moment inspiring people in the LGBTQ community to share their own displays of affection publicly.
“I hope this would reach some people and for young women out there who are gay and don’t see representation in a big movie, it’s like, you guys can dress up at Halloween and hold hands and be them and that’s awesome,” he said.
“The New Mutants”, which also stars Charlie Heaton and Anya Taylor-Joy, will be released in U.S. theatres on 28 August (20).

    20th Century Fox Television

Picked up by Fox and having Chris Carter as executive producer, this ‘Albuquerque’ series will focus on a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) office full of misfit special agents.
    Aug 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – “The X-Files” creator Chris Carter is developing an animated comedy spin-off of the hit sci-fi drama.
“The X-Files: Albuquerque” will focus on a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) office full of misfit special agents, likened to The X-Files’ B-team.
U.S. network officials at Fox have picked up the proposed series, which Carter will executive produce, reports Variety.
Actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson portrayed the lead special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively, on the original drama series, which initially ran for nine seasons until 2002. It was revived in 2016 for two more seasons, while the stars also appeared in two feature films for the franchise.
They are not currently involved in the animated spin-off.

  • 'EastEnders' Cast to Film Intimate Scenes With Real-Life Partners to 'Cheat' Social Distancing Rules

    BBC

The intimate scenes on the British soap opera will use the real-life partners of the cast members as body doubles due to the social distancing regulations amid pandemic.
    Aug 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Bosses at British soap “EastEnders” have called on the real-life partners of the show’s biggest stars to join the cast and help overcome social distancing regulations.
The new recruits will act as body doubles so that “crucial moments where two characters are kissing” can be filmed following government guidelines, BBC officials confirmed.
It’s one of many measures to be put in place since the show resumed filming in June (20), as new episodes begin to air on 7 September after a three-month break from screens amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
Executive producer Jon Sen explained the actors’ relatives made “intimate” scenes possible, but that the production team “had to choose our moments carefully… because it takes much more time to film like this.”
The cast’s families won’t just be used as stand-ins in the bedroom, he added, explaining, “We hit on the idea of (using) supporting artists from the same household to reflect the world outside… or a husband and wife who would be walking down Bridge Street and of course they can get closer together than the two metres. It really adds to the sense of life.”
Other safety measures being put in place include invisible, clear Perspex screens between actors who share a scene and computer-generated composite shots, to “bring people really close together… (and) give an intimacy to performance that wouldn’t be possible otherwise.”
One-way systems have also been created around the studios and temperature-checking the cast and behind-the-scenes staff is in operation.
And “EastEnders” isn’t the only show employing the clever trick – actress Denise Richards, who is currently filming on U.S. daytime soap “The Bold and The Beautiful”, revealed this week (ends28Aug20) that the same idea is also being used on her longrunning show.
“We get tested (for coronavirus) two to three days a week, we can’t be within eight feet of each other and any love scenes or any kissing, they’ve asked us to have our husbands or significant other (involved), so my husband has stepped in, which has been fun…,” she said. “It’s been fun for all of us to see each other’s husbands and wives on set.”

  • Jenny Slate replaced by Ayo Edebiri as Voice of 'Big Mouth' Biracial Character

    WENN/Instagram

‘Big Mouth’ has found a replacement talent after the ‘House of Lies’ actress steps down as the voice of biracial character Missy on the animated series.
    Aug 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Comedienne Ayo Edebiri has replaced Jenny Slate as the voice of biracial character Missy on cult animated show “Big Mouth”.
The “Gifted” star stepped down from the role in June (20) amid renewed calls for better representation onscreen for ethnic minorities, explaining her nerdy character, whose mother is white and Jewish and father is black, should be voiced by an actress of colour.
Edebiri was recently added to the writing team for the fifth season of the coming-of-age Netflix series, and now she has also been recruited as the new voice of Missy.
“I was definitely a very uncomfortable child, so I think the show speaks to that and a lot of those feelings, which still resonate with me as an adult,” Edebiri tells Variety.
“I’m back home in my childhood bedroom right now and on my bookshelf in between A Series of Unfortunate Events is Bill Clinton’s autobiography and Nelson Mandela’s autobiography and a translation of The Iliad in Latin. I was a true dork. So I don’t think I have to go too far to connect with Missy.”
Edebiri will officially take over the part for the penultimate episode of the upcoming season four, as Slate had already recorded the majority of her sessions earlier this year.
However, co-creator Nick Kroll reveals writers managed to work the recasting into the storyline so the transition “wouldn’t be a startling change for viewers of the show.”
Edebiri adds, “The transition is a nice farewell to Jenny in that moment, too, in a way… The voice I found is also because of the work Jenny did, too.”
A premiere date for the fourth run has yet to be announced.
“Big Mouth”, which is loosely based on Kroll and co-writer Andrew Goldberg’s childhood, also features the vocal talents of John Mulaney, Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph, and Jordan Peele.

The ‘Catch Me If You Can’ actress is coming out of her yearlong break by joining the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Broadway musical about teen suicide.
    Aug 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Amy Adams has signed on to star in the film adaptation of “Dear Evan Hansen” after taking a yearlong vacation.
The actress took a break in 2019 after a busy prior year with the release of successful film “Vice” and hit television drama “Sharp Objects”, and now she is returning to the big screen in the movie version of the hit eponymous Broadway musical about teen suicide.
Deadline reports Amy will join Ben Platt, Amandla Stenberg, and Kaitlyn Dever as part of the all-star onscreen line-up for the “Dear Evan Hansen” film. The plot centres around Hansen, a high school student who gets caught up in a massive lie after the family of a teen who committed suicide mistakes one of his letters for a suicide note.
Amy will play Cynthia Murphy, the mother of the teen who committed suicide, in the movie directed by Stephen Chbosky.
Talent from the stage play will be resurrected for the “Dear Evan Hansen” film adaptation, with Steven Levenson, who authored the book behind the 2015 Tony Award winning Broadway musical, signing on to write the script for the movie.
Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who wrote the music for the musical, have also been hired to pen songs for the film.

It opens with Tamar opening about losing her family and children, adding that “it’s time to give myself a shot.” She also says in voiceover that she’s determined to go back “in the driver’s seat of your life.” She adds, “My goal is to win and I’m not gonna stop.”

“Get Ya Life” was initially scheduled to premiere on July 30. However, it was postponed after Tamar was hospitalized on July 16 following a suicide attempted. Both Tamar and David appeared to blame WEtv for making her life stressful.
On Friday, July 31, the singer shut down reports that the network has cut ties with her after the incident that almost claimed her life. She responded to a tweet which read, “@TamarBraxtonHer has been released from @WEtv! Sending Tamar healing and loving energy! Crazy how s**t had to get so dark for WETV to emphatize. Sadly doing the right thing often is overlooked, especially when money is involved.”
In a now-deleted tweet, Tamar replied, “LIES!! no one has talked to a lawyer, or to me, sent a flower or card, text to me or NAN!!! THIS is the abuse and Lies I am talking about.” She went on to add, “This is not helping my mental state. They just won’t stop until they see me out of my mind or dead.”
