  • Kenny Smith Walks Off TNT Set in Solidarity With Bucks Players

Milwaukee Bucks players initiated a player strike prior to Wednesday’s game against the Orlando Magic to protest racial injustice following the shooting of Jacob Blake.
    Aug 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Kenny Smith showed his solidarity with protesting players by walking off the set of “NBA on TNT” in the Wednesday, August 26 episode. The strike was done following the police shooting incident against Jacob Blake, a black man in Kenosha, Wisconsin, earlier this month.
In the episode, Kenny stated while unplugging his microphone, “As a black man, as a former player, I think it’s best for me to support the players and just not be here tonight.” He went on to say, “And figure out what happens after that.”
As he walked off the set, Kenny’s fellow host Ernie Johnson said, “I respect that.” The show proceeded with the remaining hosts including Ernie, Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal, with them discussing the league, the boycotts and racial injustice.

Many applauded Kenny for his decision. “THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT BLACK KINGS showing TF OUT TADAYYYY,” so one person raved on Instagram. “Good job. hopefully people will listen and learn from this,” another fan added.
“This serious, you can hear the pain in his voice,” someone noted. One other, meanwhile, admitted, “my respect for Kenny just went all the wayyyyyyy up.”
Kenny, who played in the NBA from 1987-97, was referring to the Milwaukee Bucks players who initiated a player strike prior to Wednesday’s game against the Orlando Magic. That was their way to protest racial injustice following the shooting of Jacob that left him paralyzed. In response to the Bucks protest, the NBA announced that it would postpone all the games on that night.
“The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association today announced that in light of the Milwaukee Bucks’ decision to not take the floor today for Game 5 against the Orlando Magic, today’s three games — Bucks vs. Magic, Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trail Blazers — have been postponed,” the NBA explained in a statement. “Game 5 of each series will be rescheduled.”

AceShowbiz – Kate Winslet’s role as an epidemiologist in 2011 drama “Contagion” prepared her for the horrors of the coronavirus pandemic.
The actress reveals being part of Steven Soderbergh’s star-studded movie, about a deadly disease that spreads from China to the U.S. and kills millions, made her hyper-aware of the necessary safety measures early on.
“People thought I was crazy because I had been walking around wearing a mask for weeks, going into the grocery store and wiping everything down with isopropyl alcohol and wearing gloves,” she tells the The Hollywood Reporter. “Then all of a sudden, March 13 came around, and people were like, ‘F**k, where do I get one of those masks?'”
The star, who appeared alongside Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Laurence Fishburne in the film, saved herself and her family from the virus, but several friends fell ill.
“One was in L.A. and was very lucky to get on a trial using convalescent plasma and did really, really well in the space of, like, 72 hours after the treatment,” she added. “And a dialect coach who lives in London has had it, was in hospital for 11 weeks, is out, and has had every lung test, blood test, blood pressure test, and is clear of everything but just cannot get better – is breathless, lethargic, still feels very unwell (sic).”
In March (20), Winslet joined co-stars Damon, Fishburne, and Jennifer Ehle for a Public Service Announcement on the safety measures needed to protect people against the virus.

Unlike two previous episodes, there was no guest judge this time.
Kicking off the night was Dance Town Family from Ft. Lauderdale. They performed so amazingly, prompting Sofia to call them “perfection.” Heidi also gushed over them, saying that their performance was “beautiful.” Following it up was singer Nolan Neal who sang a gorgeous original song called “Send Me a Butterfly”. • Kate Winslet Embarks on Gay Romance With Saoirse Ronan in Trailer for Controversial Film 'Ammonite'

    [embedded content]

The Francis Lee-directed drama tells the story of paleontologist and fossil hunter Mary Anning (Winslet), who falls for Charlotte Murchison (Ronan) as the latter takes up an apprenticeship under her.
    Aug 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – The first official trailer for Francis Lee’s controversial film “Ammonite” has been shared for viewing pleasure. The movie stars Kate Winslet as acclaimed but overlooked paleontologist and fossil hunter Mary Anning, who works alone on the rugged coastline in the south of the country.
Set in 1840s England, the film follows Mary who now searches for common fossils to sell to tourists to support herself and her ailing mother. One day, Charlotte (Saoirse Ronan) and her husband pay her a visit. “My wife, she hasn’t been at all well of late,” says the husband, played by James McArdle. “She suffers from melancholia. I want her to walk the shoreline with you, learn from you.” Mary initially turns it down, saying, “I’m not looking for an apprentice,” but the husband offers a handsome payment that is too hard to resist.
As Charlotte takes apprenticeship under Mary, the two bond despite their initial clash due to their different social classes and personalities. The trailer sees Mary and Charlotte kissing as the latter says, “I don’t want to go back to the life I had before you.”
“Ammonite” has been tipped of Oscars, but it was met with criticism when it was announced last year that the film would focus on a romance that Mary shared with another woman. “I do not believe there is any evidence to back up portraying her as a gay woman,” family member Barbara Anning said to the Telegraph, calling the decision “sensational.”
Another relative, Lorraine Anning, begged to differ, saying that “as long as it’s well presented and tastefully done” then it doesn’t matter.
Explaining his take on Mary’s life story, Lee said earlier this year, “It’s not a biopic” but is inspired by Mary’s life and also his research into same-sex female relationships of the period. “The idea of two women actually in a relationship together was just not a thought anybody ever had within society,” he stated.
“Ammonite” was set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and play at the Telluride Film Festival prior their cancellations due to the coronavirus pandemic. It will now receive its first screening in September as part of this year’s Toronto film festival. The movie will be released on November 13.

  • Kate McKinnon-Starring 'Joe Exotic' TV Show Earns Series Order in Three Entertainment Platforms

    WENN/Instagram

According to reports, the series earns an unprecedented rollout across three different NBCU entertainment platforms, including a broadcast network, a streamer and a basic cable network.
    Aug 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – A TV show based on Joe Exotic is getting a joint straight-to-series order by the NBCUniversal Television and Streaming divisions. According to reports, “Joe Exotic” (working title) earns an unprecedented rollout across three different NBCU entertainment platforms.
The three platforms are a broadcast network, NBC, a streamer, Peacock, as well as a basic cable network, USA. The project, which is based on the second season of Wondery’s “Over My Dead Body”podcast, was originally set up at NBCU’s UCP in November 2019. The interest of the project spikes following Netflix’s hit series “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness”.
“Joe Exotic” is set to follow real-life character Carole Baskin (Kate McKinnon) who is a big cat enthusiast. As she learns that fellow exotic animal lover Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel is breeding and using his big cats for profit, she sets out to shut down his venture, inciting a quickly escalating rivalry. But Carole has a checkered past of her own and when the claws come out, Joe will stop at nothing to expose what he sees as her hypocrisy. The results prove dangerous.
They have yet to cast an actor to portray Joe, a tiger breeder and big cats zoo owner. In April, he was convicted and sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for trying to hire a hitman to kill Carole and being responsible of dozen wildlife violations, including the killing of five tigers.
The series reportedly will be penned by Etan Frankel and “Saturday Night Live” star Kate. Kate will also serve as executive producer alongside Wondery’s Hernan Lopez, Marshall Levy and Aaron Heart.
Aside from this series, there’s a separate series based on Joe that is being developed by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios. Starring Nicolas Cage as Joe, the show uses a Texas Monthly article by Leif Reigstad titled “A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild” as their material basis.

  • Noel Clarke Demanded Diversity as He Found All-White Crew on New TV Project

    WENN

The former ‘Doctor Who’ actor reveals he demanded producers hire more diverse crew when he found out his new television project had mostly white members.
    Aug 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actor and filmmaker Noel Clarke told producers on his latest TV project to hire a more diverse crew.
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Clarke admitted that when he walked on set he realised the crew was mostly white and told producers to “fix” the situation by making new hires.
“I’m on a job now which I can’t mention and I came in on day one and I’m the lead actor I was like, ‘The crew’s not diverse enough, fix it, fix it’,” he said, according to Deadline.
“(They said) ‘Yeah but…’ (I said) ‘I don’t want to hear anything else – fix it,’ ” the “Bulletproof” star continued. “I don’t care if there’s trainees because this job’s trainees is the next job’s runner then the next job’s assistant, then they’re a supervisor, then in five years’ time or three years’ time we have more people in the business from different backgrounds; socio-economic, not just about colour.”
Although the “Adulthood” director refused to name the show, bosses at U.K. network ITV have announced he will star in new series”Viewpoint”, which just began shooting in Manchester, England with cast and crew following COVID-19 safety protocols.
Discussing the importance of diversity, Clarke added, “We need to make sure that what’s happening right now (about diversity) it’s not just this quarter’s hashtag and in six months’ time it’s going to be something else. I don’t mind trainees; we need to get people in at ground level… change takes time.”
