  • 'Black Adam' FanDome Teaser Shows Birth of Dwayne Johnson's Anti-Hero Character

    [embedded content]

Besides sharing the concept art of his upcoming movie, the wrestler-turned-actor confirms that the Justice Society of America characters Hawkman, Dr. Fate and Cyclone will be appearing in the film along with Atom Smasher.
    Aug 24, 2020
AceShowbiz – This weekend’s DC FanDome also gave comic book fans a tease of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s upcoming movie “Black Adam”. A teaser of the movie features animated concept drawings that explain the birth of the titular anti-hero.
“5,000 years ago, Kahndaq was a melting pot of magic and powers,” Johnson narrates the video that shows the fictional nation of Kahndaq. “Most of us had nothing except the chains around our necks. Kahndaq needed a hero; instead they got me. I did what needed to be done…and they imprisoned me for it.”
The teaser shows Black Adam breaking free and also unveils his costume. “Now, 5000 years later, I’m free. And I give you my word…no one will ever stop me again,” Johnson continues in voiceover as the concept art features his character sitting on a throne.
During the virtual event, Johnson also confirmed that Justice Society of America characters Hawkman, Dr. Fate and Cyclone will be appearing in the film along with Atom Smasher, who will be portrayed by Noah Centineo. Concept art of each character has also been shared online.
“Before the Justice League was formed – the original ‘golden’ superhero team of DC Comics was JSA – Justice Society of America,” the “Rampage” star wrote along with the concept art posted on his Instagram page. “It’s our privilege to build out our universe and bring these golden superheroes to life in BLACK ADAM. This’ll be a fun movie to make!”
He went on hyping up the team’s appearance in the film, “As righteous, respected and as powerful as they are – they will all still come to understand, there’s only one code of justice the man in black lives by. His own. Truth, Justice and the Black Adam way.”

Answering a fan question, Johnson said that he’d like to see Black Adam teaming up with Wonder Woman or Superman. “It might be cool to hang out with Superman,” he coyly said without confirming if those characters will be featured in the film. “Because of our strengths and speed; Black Adam and Superman could become friends..or they won’t.”
Centineo joined Johnson in the video, explaining the background of his character Atom Smasher, “His grandfather was a villain, he’s got quite a spirit. He goes through this transformation in the film; he’s not expecting the world of a superhero.”
“Black Adam” has Jaume Collet-Serra on board as director. The film is slated to arrive December 2021.

  • Ellie Goulding Would Love to Try Out Acting in West End

    Instagram

The ‘Burn’ singer is keen to branch out and launch an acting career by starting out on a stage show in the West End theatre before venturing into onscreen role.
    Aug 24, 2020
AceShowbiz – British pop star Ellie Goulding is keen to launch a career in acting.
The “Burn” hitmaker told U.K. tabloid The Sun she’d love to reinvent her career as she reflected on how much she’d enjoyed acting onstage as a kid.
“I acted a lot when I was young and I really enjoyed it. I loved playing different characters.,” Ellie, 33, explained. “It’s probably a very different kind of confidence from being on stage. But I’d like to see if I’ve still got it.”
“I would probably be in a play. I’ve seen a lot of plays in the last couple of years in London and I’d like to start there,” the star mused.
Ellie went on to confess she didn’t feel a blockbuster movie would be the right choice for her to start with – despite musical peers like Rita Ora and Rihanna already venturing into that territory successfully.
Despite her ambitions, the star is still firmly rooted in her music career. Ellie released her latest album, the U.K. chart topping “Brightest Blue”, last month (Jul20).

    Aug 24, 2020
AceShowbiz – Gloria Estefan, her daughter, and niece have agreed on a safe word to stop them revealing too much on their new Facebook Watch series.
The three women will front the new family talk show – a spin-off from Jada Pinkett Smith’s “Red Table Talk” hit – and Gloria reveals they had to come up with a word or phrase they could use to end a conversation if it gets too close for comfort.
The pop superstar says, “There’s a secret word – ‘pineapple’ – and we’re supposed to shut up, because when we start talking, we start talking. We wanna leave it natural and fresh… so we’ve chosen the themes… and I don’t think we’ve said, ‘No, we’re not gonna go there!’ We just talk for two hours and then the editors are the poor things that have to synthesise this down to a length that people can watch.”
“We’re gonna be free and talk about everything… We’re gonna be raw, just like Jada.”
The first eight episodes of “Red Table Talk: The Estefans”, which will feature Gloria’s daughter Emily and her niece Lili, will debut later this year.

  • '12 Years a Slave' Scribe to Introduce Black Batman in New Comic Series

    DC Comics

The Oscar-winning screenwriter John Ridley is working on a new graphic novel series revolving around the head of Wayne Enterprises, Lucius Fox, and his family.
    Aug 24, 2020
AceShowbiz – Oscar winner John Ridley is creating a four series comic book that will introduce a black Batman.
The “12 Years a Slave” screenwriter and producer let the news slip during a virtual chat with DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee during the marathon DC FanDome on Saturday (22Aug20), revealing the series will launch in January (21).
“I think it’s a pretty safe bet that if I’m writing Batman, it’s probably a little better than a 47 per cent chance he’s going to be a person of colour,” said Ridley.
Ridley’s limited Batman series will focus on the family of Lucius Fox, the head of Batman Bruce Wayne’s company, Wayne Enterprises.
“He has a family and this is a family that has secrets… from one another,” Ridley added. “It’s a little bit different dynamic than the Batman that we’ve always seen.”
Lucius Fox, one of the most prominent black characters in Batman comics, was portrayed by Morgan Freeman in director Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” films. In the comic books, his son, Lucas, is the vigilante Batwing.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey Wright appeared as the first Commissioner James Gordon of colour in “The Batman” trailer, which closed the DC FanDome event.
Promoting his new movie, which he confessed is only 30 per cent complete due to the coronavirus shutdown, filmmaker Matt Reeves revealed the upcoming HBO Max Batman series he is working on with”Boardwalk Empire” creator Terence Winter will take place a year before his new “The Batman” film, starring Robert Pattinson, as a “masked vigilante… starts to unsettle the city.”
“The story is actually a battle for his soul,” Reeves explained.

  • 'Wonder Woman 1984' FanDome Trailer Shows Kristen Wiig's Full Transformation Into Cheetah

    Warner Bros. Pictures

The star-studded DC FanDome virtual event treats fans to a new trailer for the second ‘Wonder Woman’ movie which shows the villainess Cheetah in her full glory.
    Aug 23, 2020
AceShowbiz – Director Patty Jenkins and her “Wonder Woman 1984” cast were given a big surprise as they launched the 24-hour DC FanDome virtual event on Saturday (22Aug20) – Lynda Carter jumped on live to be part of the panel.
The filmmaker, Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, and Pedro Pascal were answering questions from fans when the original Wonder Woman appeared before them and heaped praise on the cast for keeping the character alive and inspiring women around the world.
“Hello you beautiful woman,” Gadot gushed, calling her appearance “a delightful surprise.”
“Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. Now this thing (DC FanDome panel) is whole, because you’re here.”
Jenkins added, “We think about you every day and we talk about you all the time.”
Wiig confessed she was a huge Carter fan, revealing she used to dress up as Wonder Woman for Halloween.
“I am so excited to meet you,” she said. “I have been a fan from day one.”
Jenkins and the cast also took a fan question from tennis ace Venus Williams, who asked who would win a tennis match between Wonder Woman and Wiig’s villain Cheetah. Both stars argued their character would be victorious on the court, with Kristen joking that Wonder Woman’s gold tennis racket would be too heavy and slow her down.
After the panel, Jenkins offered up a new “Wonder Woman 1984” trailer, which chronicled Wiig’s full transformation from Barbara Minerva to Cheetah.

Hours later, Venus returned for a chat with Jenkins, and revealed Wonder Woman was a big part of her childhood and she was a huge fan of the TV series, starring Carter. The tennis star also suggested there should be a superheroine called Venus.
Carter returned later during the DC FanDome event to unveil the new Wonder Woman logo for next year’s 80th anniversary of the comic book character, alongside Jenkins and Gadot.
