  • Charlotte Kirk Calls Off Movie Promotion as She's Linked to Affair and Extortion Scandal

    Instagram

The actress calls off a virtual question and answer event with director Neil Marshall to promote her film ‘The Reckoning’ amid her link to the scandal involving former NBCU executive Ron Meyer.
    Aug 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – A virtual fan question-and-answer session with actress Charlotte Kirk and the director of her new movie “The Reckoning” has been pulled after she was linked to the drama surrounding former NBCUniversal boss Ron Meyer.
Kirk is believed to be the woman at the centre of Meyer’s infidelity scandal, which led to him stepping down as the company’s vice chairman after 25 years earlier this week (beg17Aug20).
Reports suggest Meyer had become a target of an extortion attempt linked to his affair and when he raised the issues with his fellow executives, they came to the mutual decision he should exit the company.
Now, bosses at genre festival Fantasia have axed a Q&A with Kirk and director Neil Marshall, which was scheduled to promote their film “The Reckoning” on Thursday night (20Aug20), calling it a “mutually agreed decision,” according to Deadline.
The virtual festival will still open with the film as planned.
Kirk co-wrote and executive produced the horror movie with Marshall. The pair has yet to respond to the news.

  • Netflix Apologizes After Being Accused of Sexualizing Children in 'Cuties' Promotion

    Netflix

The bosses at streaming giant are sorry after facing backlash for the ‘inappropriate’ marketing to promote the upcoming movie directed by Maimouna Doucoure.
    Aug 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – Bosses at Netflix have issued an apology for posters promoting the film “Cuties” after they were accused of sexualising children.
Executives at the streamer released a statement on Thursday (20Aug20) following criticism surrounding the marketing linked to the upcoming film from French director Maimouna Doucoure.
“We’re deeply sorry for the inappropriate artwork that we used for Mignonnes/Cuties,” a Netflix spokesperson said. “It was not OK, nor was it representative of this French film, which won an award at Sundance. We’ve now updated the pictures and description.”
The production, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah earlier this year (20), stars Fathia Youssouf as an 11-year-old girl who befriends a group of dancers at her school and clashes with her family over their Senegalese Muslim traditions.
One controversial poster image features the young stars of the film striking suggestive dance poses while wearing skin-tight outfits. The shots led to a Change.org petition, signed by over 35,000 participants pushing for the movie to be pulled.
“Cuties” is set to debut on 9 September (20).

  • 'Lucifer' to Tackle Black Lives Matter Movement in Season 6

    FOX

The Netflix series will feature the Black Lives Matter movement in an episode of the upcoming sixth season and the producers really hope they ‘get it right.’
    Aug 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – The sixth season of hit Netflix show “Lucifer” will feature an episode dedicated to the Black Lives Matter movement.
The programme, featuring British actor Tom Ellis as the devilish Lucifer Morningstone, will be debuting its fifth season on the streaming service on Friday (21Aug20). And while fans wait for the new episodes with bated breath, creators and writers have already moved on to penning episodes for the sixth series, with executive producer Ildy Modrovich telling Entertainment Tonight that they’re planning to tackle the timely subject in the best way they can.
“When we got back to the (writers) room, we started looking at the fact that we’re a cop show and in what ways have we contributed or not addressed the systemic issues of the police department. And we decided we wanted to speak to it. So we’re actually doing a story that speaks directly to it, and we’re super excited about it,” she said.
Modrovich added that she’s also feeling “nervous” about the episode because she wants to “get it right.”
“We have a lot of voices in the room. We’re a pretty diverse room, so it’s taken a lot longer than most episodes to break because we have talked about everything. There have been many tears shed,” she explained. “I can just say everybody’s very passionate about it, so I think that’s what we’re doing to get it right. We’ll probably fine-tune it forever and be working on it until we shoot it.”

The Rascal Flatts bassist and his wife of 16 years, Allison Alderson, agreed to be featured in the new Netflix series after making appearances on ‘Chrisley Knows Best’.
    Aug 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Rascal Flatts star Jay DeMarcus was hesitant to allow fans into his home for “DeMarcus Family Rules” until reality TV regular Todd Chrisley assured him it would be fun.
The musician and his wife of 16 years, Allison Alderson, agreed to let the cameras roll on their family’s life after previously making appearances on Chrisley’s show “Chrisley Knows Best”, and the country star admits the reality TV favourite had to help him make his mind up.
“A TV show wasn’t really in our thoughts,” the bassist and pianist tells Taste of Country. “We had gone on theirs (show) a few times and had fun – they’re dear people and great friends of ours. But after a few episodes, they took us out to dinner one night, and Todd said, ‘I think you guys have a show’. He had to talk us into it, but as it unfolded, we developed a love for doing it as a family. That’s what makes it special.”
Shot before the coronavirus shutdown, Allison is looking forward to revisiting happier family times when the series debuts on Netflix on August 19.
“When we were at Thanksgiving, nobody thought that every mother in America would be homeschooling their children the following year,” she shares. “We just all assumed, like everybody else, that we’d be in a vastly different place from where we are currently. It’s going to be fun for us to go back and watch the show since it was all done pre-COVID when no one even thought about wearing masks.”
