  • 'Cats' Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber Blames Director Tom Hooper for Movie's Flop

    WENN

Calling the feature film adaptation of his stage musical ‘ridiculous,’ the English composer reveals Hooper’s decision with the movie that he claims was the root of the problem.
    Aug 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Andrew Lloyd Webber has called out “Cats” movie adaptation. Despite being part of the feature film as the composer, the 72-year-old, who created the original stage musical which the film is based on, has described the James Corden-starring pic as “ridiculous” and blamed director Tom Hooper for it.
“The problem with the film was that Tom Hooper decided that he didn’t want anybody involved in it who was involved in the original show,” Webber told The Sunday Times in a recent interview. “The whole thing was ridiculous.”
Webber has previously made public his dislike of the 2019 film. Back in May of this year, he criticized Corden’s version of Bustopher Jones, saying, “I cannot tell you how absolutely un-Eliot it all was. This song is about wit, not coarse jokes.”
Webber composed “Cats”, which is based on the 1939 poetry collection “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats” by T. S. Eliot. It debuted in London in 1981 and became a global success. As of 2019, “Cats” remains the fourth-longest-running Broadway show and the sixth-longest-running West End show.
The “Cats” movie was a big box office bomb despite boasting a star-studded that included the likes of Judi Dench, Jennifer Hudson, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, Ian McKellen, Taylor Swift and Rebel Wilson in addition to Corden. Made on a $80-100 million budget, it only grossed a total of $74.6 million worldwide and is estimated to have lost Universal Pictures $71-114 million after factoring together all expenses and revenues.
The film received an average rating of 3.7/10 on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, with critics taking issue with its CGI effects, plot and tone. It went on to receive nine nominations at the 2020 Razzie Awards and won six, including Worst Picture, Worst Director, and Worst Supporting Actor and Actress for Corden and Wilson, respectively.

  • 'RHOP': Monique Samuels and Candiace Dillard's Brawl Is Teased in Season 5 Premiere

    Bravo

The episode also sees Candiace and Gizelle Bryant having a back-and-forth at Candiace and husband Chris’ one-year wedding anniversary party after Gizelle confronts Candiace about her nasty tweet about Gizelle.
    Aug 3, 2020
AceShowbiz – “The Real Housewives of Potomac” premiered its season 5 on Sunday, August 2 and fans could already tell that the new season would be an explosive one. Just like what they did to “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”, Bravo offered a sneak peek at the biggest fight between Monique Samuels and Candiace Dillard in the very first episode.
It was only the first few minutes into the new episode when they briefly showed the highly-anticipated fight. The chaotic brawl happened in October 2019 where both women accused each other of second-degree assault, though the charges were later dropped. To make it more interesting, the show later took viewers several weeks back to see how things led to that moment.
The episode also saw Gizelle Bryant revealing that she recently rekindled her relationship with ex-husband and pastor Jamal Bryant. Although he cheated on her while they were previously married, Gizelle decided to give him another try after she realized that there’s no other man she’d want to travel the world with nor is there another man who loves her children more than Jamal.
Meanwhile, viewers were treated to a look at Ashley Darby’s life as she tried to adjust to life as a new mom. She also gushed over her relationship with husband Michael, saying that it was “better than ever.”
Later in the episode, Candiace and Gizelle had a back-and-forth at Candiace and husband Chris’ one-year wedding anniversary party after Gizelle confronted Candiace about her nasty tweet about Gizelle. In the said tweet, Candiace slammed Gizelle’s house after the latter mocked Candiace’s house-hunting process. None of them planned to apologize to the other.
Candiace’s good friend Karen Huger also opened up about her marital woes with her husband Ray while she made a speech at the bash. She previously told Monique that her husband wasn’t thrilled with her always leaving town to do work and promote her perfume.

  • Natalia Dyer Calls COVID-19 Blessing in Disguise for 'Stranger Things' Writers

    WENN

The actress, who plays Nancy Wheeler on the hit Netflix series, gushes that she is excited to get back to work since the scripts for season four have been completely written.
    Aug 3, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Stranger Things” actress Natalia Dyer believes the coronavirus shutdown has been a blessing in disguise for the team behind the hit show.
The 25-year-old spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, and explained the delay in getting back to set is most likely a “blessing for the writers” as they have had more time to “just sit down, think, and create.”
“Normally, we get the first few scripts, and then they have to keep writing due to the schedule of it,” she shared. “It takes a while to craft a script. So, normally, there’s a kind of ‘writing as we’re going’, but it seems they’ve had enough time.”
Natalia, who plays Nancy Wheeler on the show, went on to hint that season four of the science fiction series, also starring Millie Bobby Brown and Noah Schnapp, is now completely written – and she can’t wait to get back to work.
“I’m excited by the scripts. I’m excited for everything that this season is going to be,” she added.

    Instagram

Lindsay Hartley, the ex-wife of ‘This Is Us’ star Justin Hartley, has confirmed the news on her Twitter account, writing to her followers, ‘Some big shoes to fill…precious too.’
    Aug 3, 2020
AceShowbiz – “General Hospital” is making a temporary change on its cast. It is reported that Kelly Monaco will not play Sam McCall Morgan on the long-running soap opera in its new episodes this month. The decision is made due to her recent health problem.
Actress Lindsay Hartley has been tapped to take over the character amid Kelly’s absence. The ex-wife of “This Is Us” star Justin Hartley confirmed the news on her Twitter account, writing to her followers, “Some big shoes to fill…precious too. I hope you enjoy watching Sam as much as I have enjoyed playing her, temporarily.”
Fans were excited over the news as one replied, “I’m so happy to see you back on soaps for a bit and I know you were happy to be acting with Brook again!” Someone else added, “Thank you so much for stepping into her shoes to keep her story going. We appreciate you!” Another fan chimed in, “I’m sure that incredibly kind Kelly Monaco was appreciative that you could help out for a couple weeks.”
Meanwhile, Kelly’s mother assured fans that her daughter would be back playing Sam soon after having a “breathing problem” on set. “Kelly is great and should be back on set Monday,” Carmina Monaco explained, adding that Kelly had been under a two-week quarantine.
“She had a hard time with the Covid mask,” she wrote in another message. She also said that the quarantine order was “rather unexpected” as the actress had “tested negative twice for Covid.” Additionally, a third test did not reveal the presence of any antibodies.
Prior to this, “General Hospital” suspended production due to coronavirus concerns. After it ran out of new episodes in May, ABC has been airing a series of classic episodes. Production fortunately resumed last month with new episodes being set to begin airing on Monday, August 3.

  • Emma Watson Disappoints Woman Inspiring Her 'Bling Ring' Character With Unsympathetic Remarks

    NALA Films/Instagram

When speaking about the ‘Little Women’ star’s role in the 2013 movie during an Instagram Live broadcast, Alexis Neiers points out the one problem she had with the actress.
    Aug 3, 2020
AceShowbiz – Emma Watson has been slammed by Alexis Neiers – the woman who inspired her character in 2013 movie “The Bling Ring” – for remarks she made about her.
The satirical crime film centred on a real-life gang of fame-obsessed teenagers, who tracked the whereabouts of celebrities and then robbed their homes of riches.
After the 2010 crime spree, Alexis was charged with burglary and sentenced to 180 days in jail, three years’ probation, and a $600,000 (£460,000) fine.
Speaking during an Instagram Live broadcast, Alexis reflected on Emma’s portrayal of the character inspired by her, and confessed she was disappointed by comments the “Little Women (2019)” star previously made about her.
“The problem I had is with the comments she made about me and the role, despite the fact that she already knew that I was a convicted… like, the heroin part, the drug addiction part had already come out (sic),” Alexis explained during her chat with Ziwe Fumudoh. “So, I was actually in treatment at the time they were filming the movie.”
She also noted she had hoped for more empathy from Emma, recalling the actress said, “Something along the lines of, ‘This girl’s the epitome of what I’m totally against and she’s disgusting’.”
“At that point I already came out with the fact that I’ve been sexually abused throughout my childhood and was like a full-blown heroin addict at the time,” Alexis added.

While promoting the movie, Emma told W magazine her character was “so different from me. How do I try and understand a young woman who loves these things so much that she is prepared to commit crimes to have them?”.

  • Lea Thompson Claims Ellen DeGeneres' Rudeness Is 'True Story,' Host Is 'Pissed' by New Allegations

    WENN

In related story, the ‘Finding Dory’ actress is said to be wanting to exit the talk show following new claims made against herself and the staff of the award-winning morning show.
    Aug 3, 2020
AceShowbiz – More allegations against Ellen DeGeneres and her popular talk show “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” surfaced online. After comedian Brad Garrett claimed on Twitter that he knew many people who told him about getting poor treatment by the host, Lea Thompson doubled down on the comment.
In response to an article about Brad saying that mistreatment by Ellen is a “common knowledge,” the “Little Women” star wrote on Friday, July 31, “True story. It is.” Lea, however, didn’t detail how she came to the conclusion.

Lea Thompson agreed with Brad Garrett’s comment on mistreatment by Ellen DeGeneres.
In related story, Ellen is said to be wanting to exit the talk show following new claims made against herself and the staff of the award-winning morning show. “She is pissed that people have come forward to share these negative stories about her and feels betrayed,” a source reveals to Us Weekly.
“She knows she can be tough at times,” the insider goes on saying. “But [she] believes she works hard and is extremely creative and that it’s a privilege to work for her and be around her.”
This arrives after James Corden reportedly might take over Ellen’s hosting duty on the daytime show. Editors at Britain’s The Sun newspaper claimed that “The Late Late Show with James Corden” host “could be the shock winner after dozens of employees accused the $50 million-a-year (£38 million) presenter of turning a blind eye to racism, bullying and sexual harassment on her hit daytime show.”
Sources added that James had long been seen as Ellen’s “long term successor,” with the ongoing scandal only cementing his future on the show.
“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” was hit with racism and toxic environment allegations made by current and former employees. In response to that, Ellen issued a statement in an internal email on Thursday, saying that she’s sorry for what happened and promised a change. However, later on Friday, BuzzFeed published a new report, alleging that “the office is a place where sexual harassment and misconduct by top executive producers runs rampant,” according to “dozens of men and women who work behind the scenes.”

  • Tom Cruise Jumps Out of Chopper in Daredevil Stunt as 'Mission: Impossible 7' Resumes Filming

    WENN

The Ethan Hunt depicter is back on set, filming a thrilling stunt in the United kingdom countryside for the upcoming seventh installment of the ‘Mission: Impossible’.
    Aug 3, 2020
AceShowbiz – Action man Tom Cruise is back to tackling daredevil stunts on camera after resuming production on his latest “Mission: Impossible” sequel.
The actor, who turned 58 last month (Jul20), recently returned to work on “Mission: Impossible 7” in the U.K. after the coronavirus pandemic forced director Christopher McQuarrie to halt filming back in March, and last week (ends31Jul20), Cruise was spotted jumping out of a helicopter in the Oxfordshire countryside.
He was joined by two castmembers for the skydive, 10,000 feet (3,048 metres) up in the sky, reports the Daily Mail.

“Mission: Impossible” fans have come to expect at least one seriously impressive action sequence from Cruise in instalments of the film franchise – in 2011’s “Ghost Protocol”, he climbed to the top of Dubai, United Arab Emirates’ sky-rise Burj Khalifa tower – the tallest building in the world – and in 2015’s “Rogue Nation”, he strapped himself to an airplane during take-off.
He also famously broke his ankle shooting “Mission: Impossible 6” in London in 2017 when he slammed his foot into a wall after mistiming a building jump stunt.
