Nine years after bringing home his first golden statuette, the ‘Coming Home’ rapper secures his second when ‘Two Distant Strangers’ was named Best Live Action Short Film at the awards ceremony.

    Apr 27, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Sean “P. Diddy” Combs credited rapper/actor Joey Bada$$ with his Oscar win on Sunday, April 25 after their project “Two Distant Strangers” was named Best Live Action Short Film.

Joey stars in the police brutality drama as a young black man stuck in a time loop and forced to relive his shooting death at the hands of a white police officer every day.

The short was directed by Travon Free and Martin Desmond Roe, and was produced by the likes of Diddy, actor Jesse Williams, and basketball superstar Kevin Durant, with the filmmakers accepting the Academy Award at the Los Angeles ceremony on behalf of the whole team.

Diddy has since shared his joy at the big win online, after watching the televised event from the comfort of his own home and calling Joey to congratulate him on the huge success of “Two Distant Strangers”.

Insisting he was “incredibly blessed” by the honor, he posted on Twitter, “Words can’t describe how I feel right now winning alongside my brothers @JoeyBadass @VanLathan @Travon @iJesseWilliams @KDTrey5 #TwoDistantStrangers #Oscars [sic].”

The award is Diddy’s second Oscar – he also claimed gold in 2012 when he executive produced American football documentary “Undefeated”.

Anthony Hopkins Confirmed to Be Asleep When Winning Best Actor at 2021 Oscars

    WENN/Judy Eddy

Hours after the April 25 ceremony aired, ‘The Father’ star’s agent issues a statement revealing that being the oldest living actor to win in the category means so much to the actor.

    Apr 27, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Sir Anthony Hopkins was fast asleep when he was announced as the winner of the Best Actor Oscar at the Academy Awards, held in Los Angeles on Sunday night, April 25.

The 83-year-old screen legend became the oldest person to receive an Oscar in the category for his part in “The Father”, however, there was no one there to accept the honor on the night.

Hours after the ceremony aired, the actor’s agent, Jeremy Barber, issued a statement in which he explained that his client was getting some shut-eye at 4 A.M. when he phoned him to inform him that he had made history with his win.

When he answered the call, Hopkins said the Oscar “means so much to him” as the film, in which he plays the dementia-stricken titular patriarch, is his “proudest achievement.”

His agent told People, “Tony was in Wales, where he grew up, and he was asleep at 4 in the morning when I woke him up to tell him the news. He was so happy and so grateful.”

“After a year in quarantine, and being double-vaccinated, he was finally able to return to Wales, and age 83, it was a great relief after such a difficult year. But he loved the role in ‘The Father’ – it’s his proudest performance – and to be the oldest living actor to win in the category means so much to him.”

Hopkins beat off stiff competition from Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”), the late Chadwick Boseman (“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”), Gary Oldman (“Mank”) and Steven Yeun (“Minari”) in the coveted category.

It marks his second Best Actor win, having previously scooped the accolade for “The Silence of the Lambs” in 1992.

The “Solace” star was also awarded the Best Leading Actor gong for “The Father” at the BAFTAs earlier this month.

    NBC

In the new episode of the long-running NBC singing competition show, the remaining contestants take the stage to perform with a big Four-Way Knockout being shown at the end of it.

    Apr 27, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
“The Voice” returned with a second night of Knockouts on Monday, April 26. In the new episode, the remaining contestants took the stage to perform with a big Four-Way Knockout being shown at the end of it. Performing first were Zae Romeo and Rachel Mac from Team Nick Jonas who sang “Electric Love” by Borns and “Foolish Games” by Jewel respectively.

Of the performances, coach John Legend noted that Rachel was “hitting those high notes it was really gorgeous,” adding that her “bravado so interesting.” As for Zae, he mentioned about him showing “energy that was appropriate for that song.” Nick then said of Zae, “You are growing every time we work together and why we love this job so much.” He eventually picked Rachel as the winner and Kelly Clarkson decided to steal Zae for her team.

Avery Roberson and Kenzie Wheeler from Team Kelly were the next singers to battle each other. For that night, Avery opted to sing “Tomorrow” by Chris Young while Kenzie hit the stage to sing “Beer Never Broke My Heart” by Luke Combs. Blake Shelton totally loved Kenzie’s performance as he dubbed her “the real deal” and could definitely see her winning the competition. Kelly said that she loved Kenzie’s choice of song. Kenzie was named as the winner of the Knockout.

Team John, meanwhile, set Rio Doyle to face Zania Alake in the next battle. Rio chose to sing “Issues” by Julia Michaels, while Zania hoped to win the Knockout with a performance of “If I Were Your Woman” by Gladys Night & The Pips. “Rio, I have seen people try to do that song on the show and I don’t think I have ever seen it done that well, it is in a very specific pocket and I think you did a really good job,” Blake raved. John also agreed, saying that Rio sounded incredible. However, John seemingly thought that Zania did better than Rio so he kept her on his team.

The episode also featured Raine Stern and Jose Figueroa Jr. from Team Nick battling it out. Jose, who sang “Break Every Chain” by Tasha Cobbs, won over Raine who took the stage to sing “No Such Thing” by John Mayer. Following it up was a Knockout between Team Kelly’s Ghianna Zoe and Anna Grace Felton. Ghianna sang “Glitter In” by Pink with Anna belting out “If I Die Young” by The Band Perry. “I actually believe you are both powerful in different ways. Anna, you have such a gift, and Ghianna you have such a presence,” Kelly shared before naming Ghianna as the winner. It wasn’t the end for Anna since Blake used his steal for her.

The night concluded with a four-way Knockout between Team Nick’s Devan Blake Jones, Savanna Woods, Emma Caroline and Carolina Rial. Sienna Miller Admits Paparazzi Chase Footage in 'Framing Britney Spears' Triggers Her Anxiety

    WENN/Avalon/FayesVision

Aside from sharing why she can relate to the ‘Toxic’ hitmaker, the Beth Ailes of ‘The Loudest Voice’ explains why she didn’t appreciate becoming an ‘It girl’ in the tabloids.

    Apr 27, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Watching the “Framing Britney Spears” documentary was triggering for Sienna Miller because it took her back to a time when she was a paparazzi target.

The actress admits she still has anxiety issues when she thinks back to the times she never went anywhere without a gang of paparazzi following her every move, while she was dating Jude Law and after her then-fiance’s affair with his children’s nanny in 2005.

“It’s like a bad memory,” she tells The Daily Telegraph. “But watching the Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse documentaries and remembering what that time was… [When I] see footage of photographers chasing and attacking women in the way they did, I start shaking. It was so intense.”

“It was a strange time to be a young person becoming well known, at the height of whatever feeding-frenzy was going on in tabloid culture.”

And she didn’t appreciate becoming an “It girl” in the tabloids, adding, “It was upsetting at the time. I don’t even know what that means, but it does sound reductive. It doesn’t sound nice.”

On the same topic, the 39-year-old actress stated, ” I find that as soon as I’m put into any sort of box, I just want to kick my way out. Now, I have such a strong sense of who I am and what I’m capable of that it would just roll off my back.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Sienna shared her thought on being a single mother. “Being a mother is the most important thing,” she pointed out. “I’m so madly in love with my child. Your heart is reshaped, and there’s something infinitely more important than anything else – and there’s existential relief in that. I’d love to have more babies, but I’d better get cracking.”

Sienna shares 8-year-old daughter, Marlowe, with ex-fiance Tom Sturridge.

I know you guys understand, health is the most important thing,” she said in a video.

She appreciates the support from all of her fans and her family right here at ‘The Talk’.”

In mid-March, Carrie took time off from the talk show before making her return on April 12. “Not sure exactly what’s been happening, but my arms started to go numb, and I was having sharp shooting pains as well, as well as the normal pain that I have every day which is pretty much getting unbearable,” she spilled at that time via Instagram Story. “So, I’ve taken a few days off The Talk.”

    WENN/Avalon

Accepting the Best Supporting Actress honor from Brad Pitt, the South Korean actress sparks laughter among the attendees with her speech in which she thanks her family and late director Kim Ki-Young.

    Apr 27, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
“Minari” star Yuh-Jung Youn joked her Oscar win was down to “luck” and “American hospitality” as she claimed the Best Supporting Actress honor on Sunday, April 25.

The South Korean actress sparked laughter among the attendees at the Los Angeles ceremony as she insisted there was no real competition between herself and her fellow nominees Maria Bakalova (“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”), Glenn Close (“Hillbilly Elegy”), Olivia Colman (“The Father”), and Amanda Seyfried (“Mank”).

After accepting the award from Brad Pitt, she quipped that everyone was “forgiven” for frequently mispronouncing her name, and explained, “I’m living in the other part of the world, I usually watch on television the Oscars event… Me being here by myself, this I cannot believe. Let me pull myself together!”

“Thank you to the Academy members who voted for me, thank you to the wonderful ‘Minari’ family…,” she said. “I don’t believe in competition, how can I win over Glenn Close? I’ve been watching her, so many performances… All the five nominees, we are the winners for different movies, we play different roles, we cannot compete.”

      See also…

“I had a little bit of luck, I think. I’m luckier than you! Also maybe American hospitality for the Korean actor, I’m not sure.”

The 73-year-old then thanked her family, before dedicating her win to the late Kim Ki-Young, one of the first directors she ever worked with.

“I’d like to thank my two boys who make me go out and work. This is the result because mummy worked so hard,” she smiled. “I’d like to direct this to my director, Kim Ki-Young, who was a very genius director. We made a movie together, the first movie, and he’d be very happy if he was still alive.”

Anthony Hopkins Salutes Chadwick Boseman When Accepting His Surprise Oscar Win

    WENN/Avalon/Sheri Determan

Though he was not available to give a live acceptance speech on April 25 night, ‘The Father’ star has since expressed his gratitude for the Best Actor honor through a recorded video.

    Apr 27, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Anthony Hopkins has broken his silence following his shock Oscar win to heap praise on fellow nominee Chadwick Boseman.

“The Silence of the Lambs” star was asleep in his native Wales when he was named Best Actor for his role in “The Father” in the final category of Sunday, April 25’s hybrid prizegiving from Union Station in Los Angeles and was not available to give a live acceptance speech.

His publicist thanked the Academy on his famous client’s behalf on Monday, and now Hopkins has responded in a video posted to his Instagram page.

“Here I am in my homeland in Wales,” he began. “At 83 years of age, I did not expect to get this award, I really didn’t. I’m very grateful to the Academy. Thank you.”

“I want to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who was taken from us far too early. Again, thank you all very much. I really did not expect this, I feel very privileged and honored, thank you.”

      See also…

In his Instagram post, he also thanked Sony Pictures Classics, director Florian Zeller, and “my wife and family,” among others.

It was Hopkins’ second Oscar win – he also won gold for his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in 1992’s “The Silence of the Lambs”.

Upon waking to discover he was a 2021 Oscar winner, Hopkins also called “The Father” director Florian Zeller while he was appearing on BBC Radio 4 to discuss the film’s success at the Academy Awards – the filmmaker took home the Best Adapted Screenplay gong for the script he co-wrote with Christopher Hampton.

Meanwhile, his win put Hopkins into the record books by becoming the oldest actor to win the Oscar, passing the late Christopher Plummer, who was 82 when he won gold for “Beginners” in 2011.

Neil Marshall Gets Candid Why He Found 'Hellboy' Revamp Process 'Really Miserable'

    Instagram

Returned to his horror roots with his new project, ‘The Reckoning’ director opens up about what he learns from taking on a big franchise which ended up becoming a flop in 2019.

    Apr 26, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
“Hellboy (2019)” revamp director Neil Marshall will think twice about taking on another big franchise after feeling “handcuffed” by the creative process of the 2019 film flop.

The filmmaker has returned to his horror roots with his new movie, “The Reckoning”, and he made a conscious decision about the kind of project he wanted to pursue after being disappointed with the way things worked out on the comic book reboot, which featured “Stranger Things” star David Harbour as the titular comic book character.

He told SFX magazine, “I was kind of handcuffed on that film. It was really miserable, because I didn’t get any creative input in the project. And so for this one I deliberately sacrificed having a budget for having complete control over the film. It was rough, but it was a way more satisfying experience. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved out of very little.”

      See also…

“The Reckoning”, based on a historic witch hunt in 1665 England, centers around Grace Haverstock, played by Marshall’s real-life partner and co-writer Charlotte Kirk, who is accused of being a witch after losing her husband in the plague.

The movie was filmed in Hungary in the summer, and Marshall had a say about it. “I’d imagined filming it in the UK, in winter, and it being kind of rainy and bleak and moody. But of course we ended up shooting it in Hungary in the height of summer,” he first opened up.

“Certainly the fields and the trees pass for England, and that’s absolutely find, but my worry was the weather. I was thinking, ‘Oh, that’s just not the vibe I want…,’ ” he continued. “So I flipped it on its head. I thought, ‘We’ve got characters riding around on horses, they’ve got big hats and they carry guns.”

Marshall went on recalling, “And there’s a town, and a corrupt guy ruling the town, and then there are farmsteaders… this is a Western! So why don’t we just take onboard that aesthetic and make it hot and dusty and ‘Once Upon A Time In The West… of England!’ ”
