'Downton Abbey' Cast Supported Each Other Throughout COVID-19 Lockdown via Zoom Calls

    Focus Features

Laura Carmichael, who played Lady Edith in six seasons of the period drama series and its movie spin-off, reveals it was her co-star Jim Carter who instigated their online chats.
    Jun 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – The stars of “Downton Abbey” have been helping each other cope during the COVID-19 lockdown by staying in touch via Zoom video calls.
Laura Carmichael, who played Lady Edith in six series and the movie spin-off of the beloved period drama franchise, revealed she and her castmates have been keeping each others’ spirits up while stuck at home due to the pandemic.
Praising Jim Carter, who plays Downton’s fastidious butler, Carson, for instigating their online chats, she told Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper, “He’s brilliant, Jim. He’s the first to give you a call and check how you’re doing. We’re still all very close. We’re very lucky to have each other’s support.”
Carmichael went on to say that the cast have also marked special occasions, including the 60th birthday of Kevin Doyle, who plays on-edge valet Mr Molesley.
“We all Zoomed for Kevin’s birthday, for instance,” she added. “It’s lovely to see people, though it’s not the same. But Zoom will have to do for the time being.”
A sequel to the hit “Downton Abbey” movie is believed to be imminent, although plans have reportedly been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, as sources have claimed Maggie Smith may not be able to reprise her role as the Dowager Countess of Grantham for a farewell cameo due to safety restrictions that would keep the 85-year-old off set.
Carmichael is hopeful, however, that the COVID-19 crisis will have helped creator Julian Fellowes come up with a stellar script for the follow-up to the 2019 film.
“We’ll have to see what Julian writes in his lockdown,” the 33-year-old teased. “Let’s see what he comes up with.”

  • Gerard Butler Working on 'Fantastic Idea' for 'Angel Has Fallen' Sequel

    Millennium Films

The Mike Banning depicter has already planned a fourth installment of his ‘Fallen’ action movie franchise only a year after the third film was released in 2019.
    Jun 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Gerard Butler already has a “fantastic” plot in mind for the fourth instalment in his “Fallen” action movie franchise.
The 50-year-old actor has played U.S. Secret Service agent Mike Banning three times on screen, in “Olympus Has Fallen”, “London Has Fallen”, and “Angel Has Fallen”, to date.
Now he thinks the time is right for another film after last year’s 2019 third in the series.
He tells Entertainment Weekly, “I think with everything going on, we need him (his character, Mike). He needs to come back. Yeah, I think you will be seeing another. We’re toying away with another really fantastic idea that we’re working on at the moment that obviously we can’t say too much about.”
In the first film in 2013, Banning was trapped inside the White House as he tried to save America’s President from a kidnapping, before he saved world leaders from assassination in London in the follow-up, and cleared his name after being framed in “Angel Has Fallen”.
Butler is also planning a sequel to his 2018 heist film “Den of Thieves” and is already excited about the script from director Christian Gudegast.
“It’s a fun ride, spreading across North America into Europe and the diamond district of Marseilles (France),” he says of plans for the film. “It’s very cool and has a more European vibe this time.”

This new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s twisting tragedy is set to be the first British theater production to begin rehearsals following the easing of the country’s COVID-19 lockdown.
    Jun 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ian McKellen is to play Hamlet in an age-blind version of the William Shakespeare play that’s set to be the first British theatre production to begin rehearsals following the easing of the U.K.’s Covid-19 lockdown.
Rehearsals will begin on Monday, June 29, even though none of the cast know when they will be able to stage the play, with bosses at the Theatre Royal Windsor in Berkshire, England hoping to put the play on after their annual winter pantomime.
The new adaptation of Shakespeare’s twisting tragedy about a Danish royal family will feature 81-year-old McKellen as Hamlet – a role he played in a touring production almost 50 years ago, that is usually played by a younger actor. It is produced by famed theatre impresario Bill Kenwright and will be directed by Sean Mathias as the first production of his inaugural season in charge of the Theatre Royal.
Revealing how delighted he is to be heading back on stage, Ian says in a press release: “I feel lucky to be working again, thanks to Bill Kenwright’s inspiring optimism and Sean Mathias’ invitation to re-examine Hamlet, 50 years on from my first go. So now we will meet again. Don’t know when, but do know where – Theatre Royal Windsor!”.
Theatre chiefs also promised to follow government guidance on keeping their actors safe from the coronavirus, with rehearsals beginning with strict measures in place around physical distancing, screening, hygiene and personal protective equipment.
“The Lord of the Rings” star will also perform in Martin Sherman’s adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s “The Cherry Orchard”, playing the role of Firs the elderly manservant, which will follow “Hamlet” at the Theatre Royal.

'The Simpsons' Announces It Will Stop Using White Actors to Voice Non-White Characters

    FOX

Meanwhile, ‘Family Guy’ voice actor Mike Henry also reveals on his social media account that he will no longer voice Cleveland Brown on the FOX animated series.
    Jun 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – “The Simpsons” is making a change. In a statement on Friday, June 26, the long-running animated TV show announced that the show will stop using white actors to voice non-white characters.
“Moving forward, ‘The Simpsons’ will no longer have white actors voice non-white characters,” affirmed the producers in the statement. The producers don’t elaborate more of the new decision.
This arrives after stand-up comedian Hari Kondabolu criticized the show for having Hank Azaria, a white voice actor, to take on the role of Indian shop clerk Apu Nahasapeemapetilon through a 2018 documentary titled “The Problem with Apu”. Kondabulu said that the character is based on hurtful stereotypes. “Everything with Apu is like this running joke,” he told the New York Times. “And the running joke is that he’s Indian.”
Later in January, Azaria announced that he stepped down from his role on the hit show. While saying that he would continue to appear in various other roles, Hank noted that he “won’t be doing the voice anymore, unless there’s some way to transition it or something. We all made the decision together… We all agreed on it. We all feel like it’s the right thing and good about it.”
Meanwhile, around the same time “The Simpsons” made public their decision, “Family Guy” voice actor Mike Henry also revealed on Friday that he would no longer voice Cleveland Brown on the FOX animated series. “It’s been an honor to play Cleveland on Family Guy for 20 years. I love this character, but persons of color should play characters of color. Therefore, I will be stepping down from the role,” Henry, who voiced the black character since 1999, wrote on his Instagram account.

Supporting his decision, one Instagram user said, “This is progress. If white people want to be allys then they shouldn’t be taking up black spaces, that in itself would be white supremacy!” However, some others thought that he took too long to step down from his role. “After 20 years… and u just now wanna take a stand? And why tf they got a white person behind this role… all the subliminal race jokes… I just feel we’ve been made a mockery,” one user wrote.
