Drea de Matteo Gets Real About Her Initial Reaction to 'The Sopranos' Ending

    HBO

When weighing in on the much-talked about conclusion to the hit series, the actress playing Adrianna La Cerva admits she thought there was an issue with her TV reception.
    Jun 23, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actress Drea de Matteo thought there was an issue with her TV reception while watching the final moments of her hit drama “The Sopranos”.
The much-talked about conclusion to the hit series aired in 2007 and featured James Gandolfini’s mob boss character Tony Soprano about to enjoy a meal in a diner with his family.
But as his daughter, portrayed by Jamie-Lynn Sigler, enters the restaurant and sits down the screen cut to black, leaving many fans to debate what happened next.
De Matteo, who played Adrianna La Cerva on the show from 1999 to 2006, admits she was so confused by creator and writer David Chase’s ending she thought she was having TV issues.
“I remember that night vividly,” the actress tells TV Insider. “I had a Sopranos party at the house… and we’re watching what happens in the end. And I was like, ‘Wait a second. What just f**king happened?’ I thought my TV glitched out because we were watching it on a big, giant, old television.”
She adds, “Then I called my girlfriend, who was still working on the show. She goes, ‘No, Drea. That’s the ending’. And I’m standing there and I look at everybody and they’re all cursing.”
De Matteo has since had time to reflect on what Chase was trying to say.
“I think the point is that you just fell for what happened,” she continued. “Or I don’t know, maybe everything the show has been saying for six seasons just goes to black and it’s all meaningless. The show was meaningless. Tony Soprano’s life was meaningless.”
Chase himself appeared to reveal that Tony actually dies at the end of the series in a recent discussion with Rolling Stone writer Alan Sepinwall.
“I think I had that death scene around two years before the end…,” he said, prompting the writer to note Chase had called it a “death scene”.
Fans of the series can revisits their favourite characters as young men the prequel, “The Many Saints of Newark”, debuts in 2021. Galdolfini’s son, Michael Gandolfini, plays the young Tony Soprano in the film.

  • Michael Keaton Is in Negotiation to Reprise Batman Role in 'The Flash'

    WENN

Warner Bros. bosses are reported to be eyeing the actor, who portrayed the caped crusader in 1989’s ‘Batman’ and its sequel ‘Batman Returns’, for Ezra Miller’s stand-alone superhero film.
    Jun 23, 2020
AceShowbiz – Michael Keaton is in talks to reprise the role of Batman for the planned “The Flash” movie.
The “Birdman” star first donned the cape and cowl for 1989’s “Batman” and its sequel, “Batman Returns”, and now Warner Bros. bosses reportedly want him back for Ezra Miller’s stand-alone superhero film, in which the “Justice League” actor will return as the titular speedster.
According to TheWrap.com, the storyline will introduce viewers to the idea of the multiverse, in which multiple versions of the same characters exist in alternate universes, as explained in the DC Comics – and therefore won’t affect the plot outlined in director Matt Reeves’ “The Batman”, starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader.
If Keaton signs on, he could also feature in other planned DC movies, such as “Batgirl”.
Andres Muschietti is taking charge of “The Flash” from a script by “Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn” writer Christina Hodson.

AceShowbiz – Production on actor Henry Cavill’s TV hit “The Witcher” has been green-lighted to begin again on August 17, 2020.
Cast and crew will get back to the second season of the Netflix series after the coronavirus pandemic shut down all filming projects in the U.K. and U.S. in mid-March 2020.
“The Witcher” was one of the first major shows to shut down, on the same day star Kristofer Hivju tested positive for COVID-19.

'Workaholics' Episode With Chris D'Elia as Child Predator Yanked Off Streaming Services

    Comedy Central

Amazon, Hulu, and Comedy Central have all removed ‘Workaholics’ episode titled ‘To Friend a Predator’ starring Chris D’Elia amid allegations suggesting he preyed on underage girls.
    Jun 23, 2020
AceShowbiz – An episode of TV series “Workaholics”, featuring comedian Chris D’Elia as a sexual predator, has been removed from streaming sites following allegations he had inappropriate relationships with underage girls.
D’Elia hit headlines last week after a Twitter user, named Simone Rossi, shared screenshots of alleged email exchanges between herself and the 40 year old back in 2014, when she was just 16.
The correspondence suggests he was trying to solicit photographs of the teenager and arrange a meeting. The claims have prompted a number of anonymous women to come forward with their own allegations about D’Elia’s inappropriate conduct.
D’Elia has denied the allegations, telling TMZ he “never knowingly” pursued underage girls, adding, “All of my relationships have been both legal and consensual and I have never met or exchanged any inappropriate photos with the people who have tweeted about me.”
But the scandal has prompted bosses at Amazon Prime, Hulu and Comedy Central to pull an episode of “Workaholics”, in which D’Elia played the role of a child molester. The episode, titled “To Friend a Predator”, originally aired in 2011.
A representative for Comedy Central has confirmed to Variety that the episode is no longer available.

  • Amanda Seyfried: There Are Not Enough ABBA Songs for 'Mamma Mia! 3'

    Universal Pictures

The ‘Red Riding Hood’ actress would love to return for a third ‘Mamma Mia!’ big-screen adaptation but she doesn’t think there are enough songs for another movie.
    Jun 23, 2020
AceShowbiz – Amanda Seyfried would “say yes in a heartbeat” to starring in “Mamma Mia! 3”, but doesn’t think it will ever happen because “there aren’t enough ABBA songs to make a third movie.”
The 34-year-old actress played Sophie in 2008’s “Mamma Mia!” and its 2018 follow-up, “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”. And after producer Judy Craymer recently revealed she was considering making the films into a trilogy, Amanda weighed in on the possibility in an interview with Collider.
Reflecting on the idea of a third film, Amanda said, “Listen, every single person in that movie would say yes in a heartbeat because we want to hang out with each other. That’s what we talked about last time, like, ‘Did we ever think that we’d end up here again on an Island in Croatia?’ ”
“So yeah, I wish there was a Mamma Mia! 3, but I’ll tell you what – I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and I hope I’m wrong again,” Amanda admitted. “I don’t think there are enough ABBA songs to make a third movie. Because we’d have to use Super Trooper again and we’d have to use Mamma Mia again and have to use them in a different way.”
While Meryl Streep starred as Sophie’s mum Donna in the first film, the second centred on Sophie’s life following her mother’s death, and featured flashbacks of a young Donna – played by Lily James. And while Donna’s passing came as a huge shock to fans, Amanda maintains it was the best option, because it opened the storyline up in more ways than one.
“Well, it’s a better story, because they had something to grow on,” she said of the sequel. “Like the first story had to match the stage show. So it was like, they were kind of stuck. With the second story, it could have been anything. Having Meryl’s character die kind of gave us so many good storylines.”
“It was kind of a genius idea because you’re like, no, we don’t want to lose her. But at the same time, look at what you can do, you can go back. And Lily James can play young Meryl. It was just perfect. It was so well written.”

  • Steve Buscemi Praised for Bringing Authenticity to 'The King of Staten Island'

    Universal Pictures

Director Judd Apatow and cast members Pete Davidson and Bill Burr have opend up about their experience working with the former firefighter-turned-actor in the semi-biography film.
    Jun 22, 2020
AceShowbiz – Judd Apatow and his “The King of Staten Island” cast realised they’d struck gold by landing former firefighter Steve Buscemi for the film, because he brought such authenticity to the set.
The movie, a semi-biography of comedian Pete Davidson’s life, deals with a lost 20-something trying to come to terms with the death of his fireman father, and Buscemi plays a veteran firefighter.
The stars of the film and Apatow knew they were making magic when Buscemi was on set for firehouse scenes, because he served as a firefighter in New York in the 1980s and he returned to volunteer with the force after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the Big Apple.
Comedian Bill Burr, who also portrays a fireman in the film, says, “You know when you’re watching a pro. The way Steve did it, the muscle memory was there.”
Davidson adds, “Steve crushed it, and the fact that he was also a fireman made it special. That man is so sweet he makes me cry looking at his face.”
And director Apatow insists the “Reservoir Dogs” star “was not acting, he was venting”.
Burr also enjoyed spending time at a real fire station, hanging out with film consultant John Sorrentino, who was a close friend of Davidson’s late father in real life.
“One of the first things we did was go to Pete’s dad’s firehouse (in Brooklyn Heights),” Bill explains. “That was super emotional. We went downstairs and there was all this 9/11 memorabilia, and I thought about how they had lost so many guys in that firehouse. I remember John Sorrentino going, ‘Alright, it’s been long enough I can talk about it now’.”
“I thought, ‘There is no way I’m going to do this justice. Do they realise who they hired?’ I was very humbled and nervous.”
Davidson’s father, Scott, died on 9/11 in 2001 when Pete was only seven.

  • Tiffany Haddish Gets Candid About Why She Passed on Role in Chris Rock's 'Top Five'

    WENN

In a new interview, the ‘Girls Trip’ actress additionally admits that despite her considerable career success, she is still receiving offers to play insulting roles in poorly written movies.
    Jun 22, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tiffany Haddish isn’t prepared to take on subpar roles in poorly written movies.
The “Girls Trip” star, who runs her own production company She Ready, told The Hollywood Reporter she’d rather develop projects for herself than sign up for the often insulting roles that come her way, despite her considerable career success.
The 40-year-old admits she is still receiving offers to play “the mama who’s been through something, whose kid ends up being hurt in some way and fighting for justice. And the baby’s sick or I’m trying to get out of jail.”
“I’m not doing that. I know people who live that, I’m not doing it. Unless it’s super, super good. The writing has to be impeccable. A lot of times it’s telling these stories that could be powerful, but the writing (turns out to be) garbage.”
The actress also explained why she passed on a role in 2014 film “Top Five”, written and directed by Chris Rock, and starring the comedian alongside Rosario Dawson and Cedric the Entertainer.
“You know, when I first hit the scene, I was offered a lot of roles where they want you to expose your breasts,” she recalled. “I remember that movie that Chris Rock did and it’s like he meets the two girls and they have a threesome and then Cedric gets in there and he’s supposed to ‘blah’ all over their faces – just let that baby batter go all up in their face.”
“It was like, ‘Tiffany, they’re offering you the role.’ And I was like, ‘I don’t want that role. I’m a stand-up comedian and I don’t let people do that in my face in real life, so why would I do it in this movie?’,” she insisted. “Like, you ought to have a little bit of respect for me, period. God made this face for a reason, and you’re not going to disrespect it.”
Tiffany added: “If it is against my morals – and I do have some, I know I’m a little wild, but I do have standards – then somebody might get fired… So my people, we have weekly conversations about where I’m at mentally, what I want to do. And right now, almost everything I’m doing, I’m producing.”
