Elmer Fudd Gives Up on Using Rifle on New 'Looney Tunes' Reboot

    HBO

In response to gun violence, showrunner Peter Browngardt confirms that the infamous rabbit hunter will no longer brandish his cartoon rifle as he chases down Bugs Bunny.
    Jun 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Iconic “Looney Tunes” character Elmer Fudd has retired his rifle for HBO Max’s “Looney Tunes Cartoons”, a reboot of the classic Warner Bros. cartoons.
According to the New York Times, the infamous rabbit hunter will no longer brandish his cartoon rifle as he chases down his foe Bugs Bunny, a modification in response to U.S. gun violence.
In one short viewed by the publication, “Dynamite Dance”, Elmer Fudd instead wields a scythe, an attack stopped by the hare who jams a stick of lit dynamite into Elmer’s mouth.

“We’re not doing guns,” Peter Browngardt, the series executive producer and showrunner, told the New York Times. “But we can do cartoony violence — TNT, the Acme stuff. All that was kind of grandfathered in.”
Despite the lack of guns for Elmer and character Yosemite Sam, Browngardt vowed to recreate the original feel of the classic cartoons.
“I always thought, ‘What if Warner Bros. had never stopped making ‘Looney Tunes’ cartoons?’,” said Browngardt. “As much as we possibly could, we treated the production in that way.”

Bryce Dallas Howard Points Out 'The Help' Weakness as Educational Movie on Racial Equality

    WENN

While grateful for the friendship that came from the 2011 film, the Hillary Walters Holbrook depicter would rather her followers to watch such movies as ‘Malcolm X’, ‘Selma’ and ‘Just Mercy’.
    Jun 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Bryce Dallas Howard has urged fans not to watch “The Help” to educate themselves on racial equality – instead offering a selection of movies with more appropriate messages to take away.
Since the death of George Floyd at the hands of white police officers, and the subsequent Black Lives Matter protests taking place around the world, the actress’ 2011 movie “The Help” has become the most-watched film on Netflix.
Based on the controversial book of the same name by Kathryn Stockett, the film is set during the Civil Rights Movement in 1963, and tells the story of young journalist Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan, played by Emma Stone, who decides to write a book about the racism encountered by black maids at that time.
Bryce stars in the movie as Hillary “Hilly” Walters Holbrook, and took to Instagram to tell her followers that while she remains proud of the friendships she forged on set, there are other films more appropriate to watch right now.
“I’ve heard that #TheHelp is the most viewed film on @netflix right now! I’m so grateful for the exquisite friendships that came from that film — our bond is something I treasure deeply and will last a lifetime,” she wrote. “This being said, The Help is a fictional story told through the perspective of a white character and was created by predominantly white storytellers. We can all go further.”
“Stories are a gateway to radical empathy and the greatest ones are catalysts for action. If you are seeking ways to learn about the Civil Rights Movement, lynchings, segregation, Jim Crow, and all the ways in which those have an impact on us today, here are a handful of powerful, essential, masterful films and shows that center Black lives, stories, creators, and / or performers.”

Among the films Bryce suggested watching were “Malcolm X”, “Selma” and “Just Mercy”.
Bryce’s Instagram post comes after Viola Davis, who starred as Aibileen in the film, told The New York Times back in 2018 that appearing in the Oscar-winning film is one of her career regrets.
“I just felt that at the end of the day that it wasn’t the voices of the maids that were heard,” she explained. “I know Aibileen. I know Minny (Octavia Spencer). They’re my grandma. They’re my mom. And I know that if you do a movie where the whole premise is, I want to know what it feels like to work for white people and to bring up children in 1963, I want to hear how you really feel about it. I never heard that in the course of the movie.”

'Batwoman' Showrunner Claims Introduction of New Lead Was a Way to Respect Ruby Rose

    The CW

When confirming that Ryan Wilder will take over the crimefighter title in place of Kate Kane, Caroline Dries admits executive producer Greg Berlanti helped her make the call.
    Jun 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Batwoman” showrunner Caroline Dries has confirmed reports the crimefighter will return to TV with a new identity following Ruby Rose’s shock exit.
“The Meg” star quit the TV series after just one season last month and last week it was rumoured that her character would not be recast.
Instead, the show’s creators and writers plan to retire Kate Kane and introduce a new character as Batwoman, Ryan Wilder, when the show returns to TV.
“To be honest with you, I did consider the soap opera version for a hot minute, because selfishly we already had a couple episodes written, and transition-wise it would be seamless,” Dries explained to TV Line. “But upon further reflection, and I think (executive producer) Greg (Berlanti) helped me make this call – he’s like, ‘I think we should just reboot Batwoman as a different character’.”
“We want to respect to everything that Ruby put into the Kate Kane character… and this way also helps the audience, because we’re not asking them to address the elephant in the room by accepting a new face as the same person (sic).”
Dries revealed Wilder is a misfit character who was inspired by Batwoman.

'Friends' Co-Creator Tearfully Assumes Responsibility for Lack of Diversity on Show

    WENN/Nicky Nelson

After former star Lisa Kudrow stated that the series would not have had an ‘all-white cast’ today, Marta Kauffman admits during the virtual 2020 ATX Television Festival that she ‘didn’t do enough.’
    Jun 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Friends” co-creator Marta Kauffman struggled to hold back her tears as she admitted she “didn’t do enough” to promote diversity within the television industry.
The 63-year-old writer made the confession as she opened the virtual 2020 ATX Television Festival on Sunday (June 07), telling viewers, “I wish I knew then what I know today.”
As her eyes filled with tears, Marta continued, “Sorry, I just wish I knew then what I know now. I would’ve made very different decisions. I mean we’ve always encouraged people of diversity in our company, but I didn’t do enough and now all I can think about is what can I do? What can I do differently? How can I run my show in a new way? And that’s something I not only wish I knew when I started showrunning, but I wish I knew all the way up through last year.”
Marta’s admission comes after “Friends” star Lisa Kudrow recently opened up about the lack of diversity on the show, which ran from 1994 to 2004, insisting that had the show aired today, it wouldn’t have had an “all-white cast.”
One of the only black characters in the show was David Schwimmer’s character Ross Geller’s girlfriend, palaeontology professor Charlie Wheeler, played by Aisha Tyler.
And David admitted during an interview with Britain’s The Guardian newspaper that Charlie was introduced after a push from him for more diversity on the program.
“I was well aware of the lack of diversity and I campaigned for years to have Ross date women of color,” he said. “One of the first girlfriends I had on the show was an Asian American woman, and later I dated African American women. That was a very conscious push on my part.”

    Jun 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – “The Flash” star Hartley Sawyer has been fired after a social media post with racist and misogynist references recently resurfaced.
The actor, who portrayed Ralph Dibny – aka Elongated Man – on the series for three seasons, will not be back for the upcoming run of shows, according to Warner Bros. TV bosses.
“Hartley Sawyer will not be returning for Season 7 of The Flash,” a statement obtained by Deadline reads.
“In regards to Mr. Sawyer’s posts on social media, we do not tolerate derogatory remarks that target any race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation. Such remarks are antithetical to our values and policies, which strive and evolve to promote a safe, inclusive and productive environment for our workforce.”
Sawyer’s Twitter account has been taken down, but screenshots of the old posts have been circulating online. All were posted before Sawyer joined “The Flash”.
His now-former co-star, Grant Gustin, has been quick to respond to his castmate’s departure, sharing showrunner Eric Wallace’s official statement, in which he states: “I am committed to bringing permanent change to the work environment here on THE FLASH. Yes, this is a family show. But it’s for all families. That includes Black and Brown ones. In order to facilitate this, I will continue to find Black and Brown writers, directors, actors and producers of all genders to help tell FLASH stories.”

Gustin added: “I was shocked, saddened and angry when I saw the tweets. Words matter.”

'Tiger King' Star Jeff Lowe and Wife to Star on New Reality Show

    Netflix

The new program reportedly will ‘divulge a lot more information about the relationship’ between Jeff and Joe, who is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence.
    Jun 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jeff Lowe and his wife Lauren will open up on their experiences with incarcerated “Tiger King” star Joe Exotic on a new reality TV show.
The star revealed the news in an interview with People, explaining the programme will “divulge a lot more information about the relationship” between Jeff and Joe – who is serving a 22-year prison sentence after being convicted of plotting a murder-for-hire against zookeeping rival Carole Baskin, among other charges.
“It’ll be our narrative on the Tiger King with evidence to support our sides of the stories. And it will be about the transfer of all these beautiful animals from Joe’s facility to the new facility,” he explained.
“And then the day-to-day struggle of running something as big as a 60-acre animal park and all the intricacies of the employment of zookeepers and fighting all of the animal rights groups.”
While Jeff stated that he has not been given “an exact date of production”, as the series has only just entered pre-production, he added: “It’s with The Content Group in California, and it will prove to be very, very informative.”
Jeff is set to open his highly anticipated Tiger King Park this fall in Thackerville, Oklahoma later this year, which he hopes will “put a brighter light on things” following the mistreatment of animals witnessed in the Netflix docuseries.
“Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” debuted on Netflix in March and proved a hit with viewers during the COVID-19 lockdown, becoming one of the most-viewed series in the streaming site’s history.
