Tyra Banks on Controversial 'ANTM' Episodes: 'I Cringe Through the Eyes of Today'

    VH1

The ‘America’s Next Top Model’ host and judge reveals she struggled to watch the controversial episodes as she admits what they did on the show was wrong.
    May 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tyra Banks struggles to watch old episodes of “America’s Next Top Model” after receiving backlash over a number of controversial moments.
Historic clips from the show have been resurfacing online as fans have looked back at some of the more cringeworthy moments from the TV talent contest’s history.
Viewers have taken to social media to vent their frustrations at particular moments, including the host telling Cycle 6 winner Dani Evans that she’d never be a successful model because of the gap in her teeth. Other contentious moments include Cycle 13’s “biracial themed” photo shoot, where contestants had their skin darkened.
After previously accepting the criticism on social media, the star opened up on the controversy in a chat with Entertainment Tonight, insisting, “Yes, I apologised for it. Because we put it out and even me just watching it after, I was like, ‘Oh, this ain’t right.’ ”
“We felt like our skin is beautiful, let’s paint the world our colour. And then when we saw it, we were like, ‘Oh no, this excuses other people to do this in a negative way,’ ” she explained. “We realised that, and I went on my talk show and did an entire segment on what we did. What we did was wrong, and we apologised for it.”
Referring to the clip where she calls out Evans, Banks admitted that when she looks back at that episode, “I cringe.”
“And I cringe through the eyes of today,” she added.
Taking to Twitter to address the criticism, Tyra, who has been hosting the show since 2003 and serves as executive producer, previously wrote, “Been seeing the posts about the insensitivity of some past ANTM moments and I agree with you.”
“Looking back, those were some really off choices,” she added. “Appreciate your honest feedback and am sending so much love and virtual hugs.”

    May 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Sonic the Hedgehog” is to return for a sequel after the original smashed the U.S. record for the biggest video game movie opening of all time.

The first film starred James Marsden and Jim Carrey and featured the voice of Ben Schwartz as the world’s speediest hedgehog, but decisions have yet to be made on casting for the next film.
News of a sequel comes as little surprise given the immense success of “Sonic the Hedgehog’, which beat previous record holder “Detective Pikachu” by almost $3 million upon its release.

Keanu Reeves Unintentionally Changed the Original 'John Wick' Title

    Summit Entertainment

Screenwriter Derek Kolstad reveals that the ‘The Matrix’ star failed to refer to the film properly in interviews, prompting filmmakers to make altercation to the film’s title.
    May 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Keanu Reeves’ struggle to nail the title of the first “John Wick” movie prompted filmmakers to change the title.
The 2014 blockbuster revenge tale, which centers on Reeves’ titular action hero, was initially called “Scorn” but “The Matrix” star failed to refer to the film properly in interviews.
“The only reason it’s called ‘John Wick’ is that Keanu kept referring to it as ‘John Wick’,” screenwriter Derek Kolstad told ComicBook.com. “Marketing was like, ‘Dude, that’s four to five million dollars in free advertising so far, so it’s ‘John Wick’ instead of ‘Scorn’.’ I can’t imagine it being ‘Scorn’ now.”
The change seems to have worked out, with the film becoming a huge hit spawning three sequels, including “John Wick: Chapter 4”, which is set to be released next year (21).

'Sonic the Hedgehog' Sequel Being Developed With Original Director Returning

    Paramount Pictures

Paramount gives a green light to the sequel with Jeff Fowler back in the director’s chair, while Pat Casey and Josh Miller are returning to write the script.
    May 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Sonic the Hedgehog” is set to sprint for another lap. A sequel to the video game adaptation is in the works at Paramount, following the hugely successful performance of the first movie. Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy confirmed the news on Thursday, May 28.
The sequel will bring back its team of filmmakers, with Jeff Fowler returning on the director’s chair, and Pat Casey and Josh Miller being tapped to write the script again. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara are producing the picture, while Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi and Tim Miller are on board as executive producers.
According to Variety which first reported the news, “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” is still in the development stage so decisions have not been made yet regarding casting or a production start date. In the first movie, Ben Schwartz voices the CGI-animated titular character, while James Marsden stars in live-action role as Sonic’s new best friend Tom. Jim Carrey portrays the villain in the first movie, Dr. Robotnik, with Tika Sumpter starring as a veterinarian and Tom’s wife, Maddie Wachowski.
Based on the popular video game franchise from Sega, the first film was initially met with skepticism after the original design of Sonic was heavily criticized by fans due to a more humanlike physique of the character, with new running sneakers, two separate eyes and muscled legs. In response to the criticism, Fowler announced that Sonic would be redesigned, causing a delay from its original release date of November 8 to February 14, 2020.
“Sonic the Hedgehog” was eventually released on January 25 of this year to majorly positive reviews. Commercially, it opened to $58 million at the box office, marking the biggest opening for any video game film ever. With a total of $146.1 million in the United States and Canada, it is now the highest-grossing video game movie of all time domestically, while earning $306.7 million globally.

Ramy Youssef Recalls Being Ghosted by Lindsay Lohan About Appearance on Hulu Series

    Instagram

In an new interview, the Golden Globe winner reveals that the ‘Mean Girls’ actress has agreed to open up on her journey to Islam on ‘Ramy’, but did not show up on shooting day.
    May 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Lindsay Lohan was set to open up on her journey to Islam on Ramy Youssef’s hit Hulu series “Ramy” – but apparently stopped taking the star’s calls.
The 29-year-old Golden Globe winner told Entertainment Weekly he wanted the “Mean Girls” actress to appear in a scene about Muslims that most people don’t realise practice the faith, alongside former pornographic actress Mia Khalifa.
However when it came time for her to arrive on set, 33-year-old Lindsay, who has spoken openly in the past about her commitment to the faith, apparently never showed up.
“We had an idea that it wasn’t just (Khalifa), but we were interested in this idea of people that you don’t really think are Muslim,” Youssef explained. “We actually cast Lindsay Lohan, because Lindsay had this whole thing about converting to Islam.
“So we had cast Lindsay and I talked to her and she was down, and then, you know, like Lindsay does, we just kind of stopped hearing from her,” he laughed.
The star added: “I was trying to get ahold of her and she was on the call sheet, and I guess she couldn’t make it. I don’t know, I never heard from her.
“You can’t try and put Lindsay in a box, that’s what I know. Lindsay is going to be Lindsay,” he added.
However, Youssef didn’t seem to hold any ill will towards Lohan, and said he’d be happy to have her make an appearance in the third season.
“She is one of my favourite Muslims,” Ramy joked.

Sarah Jones' Parents Want Randall Miller to Be Kicked Out of DGA for Violating Probation Terms

    WENN/Daniel Tanner

Richard and Elizabeth Jones learn that the ‘Midnight Rider’ director, who served a year behind bars for his part in the death of their camerawoman daughter, has helmed a movie in Serbia and Colombia.
    May 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – The parents of tragic camerawoman Sarah Jones are urging Directors Guild of America officials to kick Randall Miller out of the organization after learning he directed a movie in Serbia and Colombia last year (19).
Miller served a year behind bars for his part in the death of Jones, who was hit and killed by a train while shooting footage for his aborted Allman Brothers biopic “Midnight Rider” in Georgia in 2014.
The camerawoman’s parents, Richard and Elizabeth Jones, are convinced Miller violated the terms of his probation by shooting “Higher Ground” overseas and they want DGA bosses to act.
In a statement to Deadline, the parents write, “The legal system will decide whether Mr. Miller violated the terms of his probation when he produced and directed the feature film Higher Grounds, but in our opinion he most certainly violated the moral and ethical standards that informed his court sentencing.”
“To us, his actions were blatantly defiant and egregiously disrespectful to the entire creative community, to the six crew members who were injured while filming Midnight Rider, and to the memory of Sarah Jones, who died on Mr. Miller’s set as a direct result of the unsafe conditions that he willfully and illegally created.”
“To help ensure that the film industry consistently protects the lives and safety of all its members, it is imperative to hold those responsible for Sarah’s death fully accountable.”
They continue, “In light of Mr. Miller’s continuing insistence on pushing and arguably overstepping the boundaries of court rulings and common decency, we urge the Directors Guild to reconsider Mr. Miller’s membership. The prestigious DGA has such an esteemed list of law-abiding, safety-conscious members that it is increasingly difficult to imagine why they would allow Mr. Miller to claim equal standing among them.”
Under the terms of his probation, Miller is “prohibited from serving as director, first assistant director or supervisor with responsibility for safety in any film production,” but his lawyer, Ed Garland, tells Deadline the document contained a lot of ambiguous language, adding, “The day that sentence was entered, the language of that sentence indicated he could continue to direct.”
Garland has yet to respond to the statement from Sarah Jones’ parents.

Gal Gadot's Drama Series About Hedy Lamarr Gets Picked Up by Apple TV+

    Instagram

The eight-episode limited series project from ‘The Affair’ co-creator Sarah Treem and ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ producer Warren Littlefield was initially reserved for cable network Showtime.
    May 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot’s new drama about Hollywood star-turned-inventor Hedy Lamarr has been handed a straight-to-series run by bosses at Apple.
The eight-episode limited series from “The Affair” co-creator Sarah Treem and “The Handmaid’s Tale” producer Warren Littlefield was earmarked to debut on U.S. cable network Showtime, but executives there never pulled the trigger on the project and so Apple executives have jumped in to pick up the show, which follows the “Samson and Delilah” star’s career over three decades.
It’s a passion project for Gadot and her husband and producing partner Jaron Varsano, who brought Treem and Littlefield on board to help them develop the series.
Lamarr’s children, Anthony Loder and Denise Deluca, will consult on the project.
The beloved silver screen siren died in 2000, aged 85.
