    Jim Henson Biopic Developed by Disney, KISS Movie Picked Up by Netflix

    The Mouse House is developing a movie about the life and career of ‘The Muppets’ creator while Netflix secures a true-story film about Gene Simmons and his bandmates.

    A biopic based on the life of “The Muppets” creator Jim Henson is in the works.

    Writer Michael Mitnik has been tapped by Disney and The Henson company to pen a movie about the star which, according to Deadline, will focus “Henson’s journey to convince broadcasters that The Muppets was a great idea.”

    Henson began creating Muppets in the 1950’s and, after launching them as characters in commercials, they eventually appeared their own specials and a syndicated variety show.

    The concept later evolved to the puppets teaching children on “Sesame Street”, and the characters even briefly appeared in their own sketch series on “Saturday Night Live”.

    After success with “The Muppet Show”, Henson moved on to various TV and movie efforts. He died in 1990 at the age of 53.

    The new movie, which is as yet untitled, will be produced by Henson’s daughter Lisa.

    Meanwhile, Netflix bosses have all but signed a deal for the upcoming KISS biopic “Shout It Out Loud”.

    According to Deadline, the movie will focus on the story of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley meeting in Queens in New York and forming the iconic “Rock and Roll All Nite” band with Ace Frehley and Peter Criss.

    Joachim Ronning is on to direct and the script comes from Ole Sanders, who is working from an earlier draft penned by William Blake Herron.

    Mark Canton’s Atmosphere Entertainment and Universal Music Group will co-produce the flick.

    KISS still have the rest of their farewell run, the End of the Road World Tour to complete, which was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

    Since forming in 1973, the “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” rockers have sold more than 75 million records worldwide.

    The four original members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

    Iggy Azalea has signed up for “The Celebrity Dating Game”.

    The rapper will appear alongside former “The Bachelorette” star Hannah Brown and Broadway’s Taye Diggs as the first contestants for the new ABC reality show, which will be hosted by Zooey Deschanel and Michael Bolton.

    Describing the programme, network officials said, “The Celebrity Dating Game offers a wry wink at modern dating with a star-studded roster of celebrity singles from television, music, comedy, reality TV and feature film in their pursuit to find love.”

    ABC teased that the series offers “the same iconic feel as the original classic dating show.”

    Each episode will see two celebrities each picking a suitor – based on their responses to various questions – from a hidden panel of three potential partners.

    However, the hopeful romantics don’t know the identity of the celebrity and they’ll have to guess through clues given as “parody song performances” by Michael.

    The casting was revealed two weeks after Iggy Azalea shared screenshots of her own Instagram DMs. She unveiled many sexual messages, a marriage proposal, and a cash offer to talk to one mystery celebrity.

    “I’ll pay you for your time,” one of her admirers wrote. “I’ll give you 15k just to speak to me and have a conversation. Over the phone or on here. I’ll Cash App the money.”

    Iggy blurred out the names of the senders to keep their identities under wraps, but left the verified ticks next to their names and their follower counts visible – showing that they were all from profiles of big stars.

    Whoopi Goldberg is writing a new female-led superhero movie.

    The “Sister Act” legend has revealed she has been “obsessed” with superheroes since she was a child and is planning to give Marvel and DC Comics bosses a run for their money.

    Whoopi told the latest issue of Variety magazine – of which she is the cover star – that, “since I was a little kid, I’ve been obsessed with superheroes.”

    “They’re all saving the earth all the time. But do you know who’s really going to save the earth? Old Black women.”

    Goldberg said the movie will focus on a Black woman learning how to wield her superhero powers later in life.

    She kept tight-lipped about further details, including casting and filming plans.

    The new project came after Whoopi Goldberg said she kept getting shut down amid her attempts to make a “Sister Act 3” movie happen.

    “Any time anybody brings up ‘Sister Act’ it makes me happy. Because they keep telling me that no one wants to see a (third). And I know that that’s not so,” the actress/comedienne previously said after Lizzo paid homage to the franchise at MTV Movie Awards.

    She also said, “I’m a little older than I was. But I’m not very much different than I was.”

    In a more recent interview, Whoopi assured fans, “We’re working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back.”

    In the original 1992 movie, Goldberg played Deloris Van Cartier, a lounge singer who’s forced to join a convent and change her name into Sister Mary Clarence after being placed in a witness protection program. The film was a box office success, grossing $231.6 million worldwide.

    Harry Styles is set to strip off for a number of steamy sex scenes in forthcoming movie “My Policeman”.

    The flick sees the singer take on the role of gay policeman Tim Burgess and, according to reports, the One Direction star will shoot intimate scenes with co-star David Dawson – who has been cast as Harry’s love interest, named Patrick, in the movie.

    A source tells The Sun newspaper the “Watermelon Sugar” star is “really excited about the challenge,” adding, “Harry will be having sex on screen and they want it to look as real as possible.”

    According to insiders, bosses plan to film two sex scenes between Harry and David and another where the hitmaker will be “naked on his own.”

    The movie is directed by Michael Grandage. Rumor has it, Linus Roache is tapped as the older Tom while Rupert Everett as Patrick and Gina McKee as Marion.

    Rapper ScHoolboy Q is making his acting debut in the TV adaptation of cult comic book “The Freak Brothers”.

    The hip-hop star will voice a character based on himself in the animated show, inspired by artist Gilbert Shelton’s 1960s stoner series “The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers”, which already boasts cast members like Woody Harrelson, John Goodman, Tiffany Haddish, and Pete Davidson.

    And ScHoolboy admits he took the premise of the series to heart while in the recording booth: “I love that I get to play myself,” he told Variety. “I don’t just mean playing ‘Q’ either, but the real me. I was high on ‘shrooms when I recorded my scenes.”

    He added, “I wanted to do something outside of rap, creatively, and this was a great fit. It’s hilarious and it just ‘feels stoner’ like I am. The show is really about what it says it’s about. Working on my episode was laid back and fun, while still challenging creatively and pushing boundaries.”

    Also joining the project is Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, the founder of Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) – home to ScHoolboy and artists like Kendrick Lamar and SZA. He will serve as an executive producer on “The Freak Brothers”, and also produce the show’s theme tune, created by artist Ray Vaughn.

    Describing the show as “funny and perfect for modern times,” Tiffith added, “WTG’s [executive producers] Mark Canton and Courtney Solomon and [producer] Dorothy Canton were welcoming and great at working with our creative vision to ensure TDE was represented well.” Vaughn chimed in,”The stuff I’ve seen so far has been hilarious.”

    “Soul” co-director Kemp Powers is teaming up with fellow filmmakers Joaquim Dos Santos and Justin K. Thompson to shoot the sequel to hit animated movie “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”.

    Dos Santos, known for his work on Avatar: The Last Airbender, was previously announced as one of the directors tapped for the project, but now “One Night in Miami…” playwright and screenwriter Powers, and Thompson, who served as a production designer on the Oscar-winning 2018 release, have joined him behind the camera, reports Variety.

    “The crew behind the ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ set such a ridiculously high bar, and we’re humbled to take on the challenge of charting the next chapter in the story of Miles Morales,” the trio shared in a statement.

    “We can’t wait to surprise fans with the wild new adventure we’re sending Miles on with his friends, both old and new!”

    Actor Shameik Moore will return as the voice of Afro-Latino teen Miles Morales, who takes on the role of Spider-Man, in the planned follow-up, which Phil Lord and Chris Miller have co-written and will be back to produce.

    “We are so lucky to have Joaquim, Justin and Kemp on the Spider-Verse team. They are all Super Heroes at what they do and each brings a unique sensibility to the Spider-Verse…,” they said.

    “All three of them elevate every project they take on, and they are certainly raising our game. We honestly just like them and want to be their friends and we’re hoping working on this movie together for the next few years will totally make that happen.”

    “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2” is scheduled for release in October, 2022.

    KISS is about to get its own movie. Nearly four decades since its formation, the iconic rock band’s life and history are going to be adapted for the big screen through a project called “Shout It Out Loud”, taken from the group’s hit song off their 1976 album “Destroyer”.

    According to Deadline, the biopic is close to landing on Netflix, with the streaming giant currently tying up a deal after a bidding war. Joachim Ronning, whose directing credits include “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”, “Kon-Tiki” and “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil”, is set to take the helming duty.

    The band’s original members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley will closely observe the project and serve as executive producers. The pic will be produced by Mark Canton through his Atmosphere Entertainment, Leigh Ann Burton through Opus 7, Courtney Solomon, David Blackman and Jody Gerson through Universal Music Group, as well as Doc McGhee through his McGee Entertainment. Atmosphere’s Dorothy Canton and David Hopwood will additionally executive produce it.

    The script is written by Ole Sanders based on an earlier draft done by William Blake Herron. Aspiring to do for KISS what “Bohemian Rhapsody” did for Queen, the project will chronicle the band’s journey from Simmons and Stanley’s friendship when they were two misfit kids from Queens to the formation of the band, with them enlisting guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss.

    The movie will also capture how they’re trying “to set themselves apart from the ‘hair’ bands of the day, they accented their power chords and pyrotechnics with makeup. At heart, their formative story is in the vein of ‘The Commitments’, if that Irish soul band employed makeup and spiked heels.”

    The project is reportedly put on a fast track, though no official announcement has been made because the deal is not completed. Once the deal is sealed, it is expected that details of the movie, such as cast members, will be announced in no time.

    Hugh Jackman has broken his silence following disgraced Broadway producer Scott Rudin’s decision to step back and reflect on his past bad behavior.

    Rudin is one of the people behind “The Greatest Showman” star’s “The Music Man” revival.

    In a statement released on Wednesday, April 21, Hugh assured fans the show will go on while the team behind the musical rebuilds.

    “I want to say how much I respect and applaud the people that have spoken up about their experience working with Scott Rudin,” Jackman writes. “It takes an enormous amount of courage and strength to stand up and state your truth.”

    “This has started a conversation that is long overdue, not just on Broadway, and the entertainment industry, but across all workforce. The most important voice we needed to hear from was Scott Rudin, he has now spoken up and stepped away from the Music Man.     Last weekend, Hugh’s co-star Sutton Foster also addressed the Rudin drama in an Instagram Live video, insisting the producer’s decision to step back from a series of projects, including “The Music Man”, was “the only positive outcome.”

    Rudin was exposed as a bad boss who threw baked potatoes at and slammed laptops down on his assistants in a The Hollywood Reporter article.
