Oscars Allegedly Pushed Back to Summer to Prevent Cancelation Amid Coronavirus Crisis

    Facebook

The Academy Awards organizers reportedly plan to delay the ceremony to May or June to avoid having the event scrapped entirely due to the ongoing pandemic.
    May 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – The 2021 Oscars ceremony could be delayed amid the Covid-19 crisis to prevent organisers from having to scrap plans entirely.
According to Britain’s The Sun newspaper, organisers are poised to push back the Academy Awards by almost four months in a bid to save it from being cancelled.
The move reportedly comes after movie studios were told they will have a longer release window for their films to be eligible for nomination as numerous releases, including “No Time to Die”, starring Daniel Craig, “Top Gun: Maverick”, “Mulan”, and “Black Widow”, were delayed due to the global pandemic.
A source explained, “The ongoing coronavirus crisis has caused waves in the industry and has decimated plans for so many releases this year. The Oscars organisers have been in talks for weeks about whether the ceremony can go ahead given so many releases have been pushed back.”
“There would be a mutiny if changes weren’t made and the industry could be totally ravaged if film studios held back their offerings until the 2022 ceremony to be eligible,” they continued.
“What they’re proposing is pushing back the ceremony, which was going to take place on February 28, to either late May or early June. Doing this means films forced to postpone their release dates can put them out later this year or in early 2021 knowing they will still be eligible for the Oscars.”
The insider added, “Film studios have been informed of the plans and are now drawing up their release dates accordingly. But with everything still so up in the air, it’s all rather tentative at the moment.”
Last month, Academy officials drew up provisional plans to help studio bosses, by allowing films such as “Birds of Prey”, which were released directly on streaming channels, to still qualify for the shortlist.

'90 Day Fiance' Star Stephanie Matto Explains Herself Following Erika Owens Split

    TLC

Meanwhile, Australia native Erika takes to her Instagram account to share a message that reads, ‘No matter what, it’s so important to be kind,’ alongside a quote about healing from Lady GaGa.
    May 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – “90 Day Fiance” star Stephanie Matto broke her silence following her split from Erika Owens in the Sunday, May 10 episode of the TLC show. Taking to Instagram Stories, Stephanie said that she made the decision after she trusted her “gut instinct.”
“People leaving hate know NOTHING, and never will. I assure you the whole situation was so much more complex than you realize,” the 29-year-old explained. “I reacted TERRIBLY, but I was under a ton of pressure. It was literally a pressure cooker of emotions.”
Stephanie added that she’s “seeking help for the way I handle things. Stop trying to diagnose me. You watched a highly edited clip on a reality TV show. You don’t have a PHD.” She went on saying, “Again, you know NOTHING about the actual situation, and in the end, my gut led me in the right direction.”
“I understand you have your ideas of who I am, but I don’t think it is necessary for you to voice that on my page,” she shared. “Thanks for watching tonight, hopefully people can watch, judge, and respectfully carry on.”
Before ending her message, Stephanie wrote, “I apologized to Erika, my mother, and everyone involved.”
Meanwhile, Erika wrote on her account, “Remember tonight and every night, that no matter what, it’s so important to be kind,” alongside a quote about healing from Lady GaGa. “Remember we are all people. We are all human and all have emotions. I thank you all so much for the love and support from the bottom of my heart, but that doesn’t need to be validated with hatefulness towards anyone. Love and light always x.”
Erika and Stephanie called it quits as the latter hesitated to introduce the Australia native to her more “traditional” mom. Erika accused Stephanie of playing with her heart and the tension between them led them to split. “There’s obviously a level of misunderstanding between us that I don’t think will ever be resolved. That’s it, we’re done,” Stephanie stated.

Sheree Whitfield Claims Nene Leakes Pays People to Write Her 'RHOA' Reunion Reads, NeNe Claps Back

    Instagram

That isn’t the only thing about NeNe that Sheree discussed on ‘WWHL’ as the former ‘RHOA’ star talks about whether NeNe’s friendship with Wendy Williams was a genuine one.
    May 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – Sheree Whitfield apparently was one of those who tuned in for the first part of season 12 reunion of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”. The former cast member weighed in on the explosive episode during her appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” and shaded NeNe Leakes in the process.
“I think Nene did really good tonight. Her reads were amazing,” so Sheree praised the Bravo star. However, she then made an accusations that NeNe might paid someone to write her reunion reads, saying, “Whoever she paid for those, they owe her.”
Andy then brought the rumors of NeNe having scripted reads into the topic, prompting Sheree to double down on her claims. “I don’t think it’s far-fetched, but she did great on her reads tonight.”
    [embedded content]
It didn’t take long before NeNe noticed Sheree’s comments on her. She quickly clapped back on her Twitter account, writing, “YES my reads are written down and rehearsed! REMEMBER I’m elderly, menopausal and have nooooo f***in memory!”
“In my younger days i sat on couch and read you b***hes from the top of my WIG and have the most ICONIC READS TO DATE!” she added.

NeNe Leakes fired back at Sheree Shitfield’s accusation.
That wasn’t the only thing about NeNe that Sheree discussed on “WWHL”. Sheree said that she wasn’t convinced that NeNe’s friendship with Wendy Williams was a genuine one. When asked if it was “genuine or strategic,” she said it was “strategic” without hesitation.
    [embedded content]
In the reunion, NeNe did address her and Wendy’s on-and-off friendship, saying that she and Wendy were “in a neutral place” at the time they filmed the reunion. However, Kenya didn’t buy that.
“I don’t think that that is a real friendship. I think that they both are not really being genuine and honest with each other,” Kenya shared during the reunion. “I mean, clearly this woman got online and she was talking about her basically like a dog. ‘That girl over there.’ She was saying the most degrading things, and if that is someone who is truly your friend, why would she go on her platform, basically say, ‘I am Wendy Williams. That is why I’m the queen of daytime TV, and you don’t come for the queen.’ She doesn’t think anything of Nene.”

Liam Neeson's Drama Film With Son Micheal Richardson to Hit Drive-In Cinemas

    WENN

‘Made in Italy’, which marks the directorial debut of James D’Arcy, will see Liam and Micheal as estranged father and son who return to Tuscany to sell the house he inherited from his late wife.
    May 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – Liam Neeson’s new family drama with his son Micheal Richardson is set to become the latest to fill drive-in cinemas across America.
With all theatres closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, movie fans are heading out to drive-ins to get their film fix from the comfort of their cars.
And after experiencing hits with independent releases like “True History of the Kelly Gang”, “How to Build a Girl”, and “The Wretched”, bosses at IFC have decided to try Neeson’s new movie, “Made in Italy”, in the outdoors.
The film, which marks the directorial debut of James D’Arcy, will hit drive-in theatres in early August if it can’t get a full roll out in cinemas.
In it, Neeson portrays a bohemian artist who returns to Tuscany, Italy with his estranged son, played by Richardson, in order to sell the house he inherited from his late wife.
Father and son have a deep connection to the story – Richardson is the actor’s son from his marriage to actress Natasha Richardson, who died following a skiing accident in 2009.

'Friends' Reunion Special Eyeing End of Summer Filming After Delay Caused by Coronavirus

    Warner Bros. Television

WarnerMedia Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt insists that the team is still trying to ‘get this thing done in a more conventional way’ instead of doing it on a web call.
    May 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – The “Friends” reunion special could film at the end of the summer, according to WarnerMedia Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt.
The get together was supposed to be available on HBO Max on 27 May – the launch date for the streaming service – but the coronavirus crisis shut down production and there have been conflicting reports about how much was completed.
Matt LeBlanc suggested the reunion had been filmed during a recent taped appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show”, which aired days before the entire “Friends” cast offered up tickets for a live taping of the show as part of an All-In Challenge charity raffle online.
Now, Greenblatt has made it clear there’s nothing in the can and the special is months away.
“At first we thought, shows will be delayed for a month or two at the most, and now it seems like it’s going to be far longer than that,” he tells Variety. “We’re holding out for being able to get this special done hopefully by the end of the summer, if the stars align, and hopefully we can get back into production.”
“We do think there’s a value to having a big, raucous live audience to experience these six great friends coming back together and we didn’t want to just suddenly do it on a web call with, you know, six squares and people shooting from their kitchens and bedrooms…”
“We’re trying to look to the future and get this thing done in a more conventional way, and I think it’s worth waiting for. We would have loved to have had it on HBO Max on Day One.”
Jennifer Aniston, LeBlanc, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer are all set to return for the event.

Cannes Film Festival Hopes to Stage Special Cinema Events After Coronavirus Postponement

While admitting that ‘a physical edition of Cannes 2020 is hard to envisage,’ artistic director Thierry Fremaux is determined to protect the cinemas by putting together plans to screen select movies.
    May 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – Cannes Film Festival bosses are putting together plans to screen movies originally due to premiere at the postponed 2020 event directly in theaters as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The May event was initially rescheduled to late June, and then the beginning of July, but last month (April), festival chiefs accepted the fact that Cannes was unlikely to go ahead “in its original form.”
However, officials appeared to oppose calls for the usual South of France bash to go digital, like New York’s Tribeca Film Festival, and instead, they are hoping to take Cannes to the people by staging special cinema events.
In a new interview with ScreenDaily.com, published on the eve of the original Cannes launch, the festival’s artistic director Thierry Fremaux admits he “could never have imagined” ever cancelling the glitzy bash, a decision which has left him “overcome with a great sense of melancholy and nostalgia.”
“Under the circumstances, a physical edition of Cannes 2020 is hard to envisage, so we’ll have to do something different…,” he shared. “Everyone understands that (it is) impossible this year.”
As an alternative, organizers will be making an early June announcement, unveiling the full list of films which had been due to receive the red carpet treatment, and explaining their vision for what Fremaux dubbed, “Cannes outside the walls.”
Among the movies originally picked for Cannes debuts are Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch”, Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods” and animated Pixar project “Soul”.
“The aim is to start organizing events in cinemas,” he explained, while also suggesting Cannes bosses sponsor screenings at other festivals slated for later this year, such as those in Toronto, Canada, Deauville in France, San Sebastian in Spain, and Italy’s Venice Film Festival, which is currently still slated for a September launch.
Fremaux didn’t go into detail about how the plan would work, but he called on world leaders and members of the public to show their support for the movie theater industry, which has been shuttered in many territories with coronavirus lockdowns in place.
“There will need to be protection measures, especially around rents, and economic safeguards,” he said. “The way the Germans do it: no dismissals, and everyone stays ready for a return to normal.”
“We protected the banks in 2008, so let’s protect cinemas, theaters and bookshops in 2020. Personally, to live, I need my bank. But I also need cinema.”

Mark Ruffalo Spills What Robert Downey Jr. Told Him That Convinced Him to Take on The Hulk

    Marvel Studios

The ‘Avengers: Endgame’ actor admits during an interview with Jimmy Fallon on ‘The Tonight Show’ that he was afraid he could not make the role his own given his cinematic background.
    May 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Mark Ruffalo was hesitant to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he wasn’t sure how he could make the role of “The Hulk” his own.
The 52-year-old actor told Jimmy Fallon during “The Tonight Show” on Friday, May 08, that it was co-star Robert Downey Jr. who convinced him to accept the offer, admitting, “I was scared.”
“I didn’t know what I could add to what I already thought had been done so well before me.”
Explaining his hesitation, Mark revealed he was only doing “indie movies up ’til that point. So I was like, ‘I don’t know if I’m the right person for this.’ And Joss Whedon’s like, ‘Yeah, you are the right person.’ ”
“Then I got a call from Downey, it must’ve made it to him that I was hemming and hawing, and he just simply said, ‘Ruffalo, let’s go. We got this.’ In true ‘Iron Man’ fashion. And then after that, I was like, ‘I guess I have to do it.’ ”
