    AceShowbiz – ABC News reporter Will Reeve found himself trending on Internet after he shocked viewers of “Good Morning America” as he appeared for an interview without wearing pants. It didn’t take long for the clip, which saw him and host Amy Robach discussing pharmacy, from the Tuesday, April 28 episode to go viral.
    For the interview, Reeve opted for a proper look for the top, donning a gray suit with a white shirt underneath. Everyone noticed the lack of the pants at the start of the segments, thanks to the unfortunate camera angle. Judging from her facial expression, it seemed like Robach also noticed that Reeve didn’t wear pants at that time.

    Reeve later took to his Twitter account to explain his side following the hilarious incident. “Trying to be efficient, I got ready for a post-GMA workout a little too soon this morning,” he said in a statement posted to Twitter. “The camera angle, along with friends, family and several hundred strangers on social media made me rethink my morning routine.”
    “Any sartorial tips from these people who are wearing a belt, trousers and shoes during their work video calls at home are most welcome,” he added, before joking, “Now, back to work. Wearing pants.”
    “When WFH goes wrong (or, your self-framed live shot goes too wide). Hope everyone got a much needed laugh,” so Reeve captioned his post.

    Will Reeve broke his silence on his hilarious ‘no pants’ incident.
    People did have some laugh because of him as one replied to him, “You made all of us, sitting around in underwear for the last two months, feel normal again. Thank you for that and for having an awesome sense of humor.” One other said, “I can guarantee that you will get more viewers with no shirt and no pants. Conformity is the death of free thinkers. Just roll with your new style. @TomCruise got nothin on you!”
    “Thanks. Great to hear you are owning it. Good for a laugh and now off the radar. Well played! Be well!” another comment read. One person dubbed Reeve’s blunder “a good break from all the serious news. A little levity during these depressing times is welcomed.”

    The project, titled “Greatest Days”, is being adapted by Tim Firth, who wrote the stageshow, and will be directed by Coky Giedroyc.
    The members of Take That, past and present, are backing the film, which will feature a string of their pop hits and a possible new song the group will record for the project.
    The movie, like the play, will focus on the lives of five British schoolgirls obsessed with a fictional boy band.
    Former Studiocanal U.K. boss Danny Perkins, who is producing and distributing the film via his new Elysian Film Group company, tells Deadline, “The Band was a special night out and we hope this can be the same. We hope it will be just what people want to see on the other side of the pandemic.”
    “It’s about people coming together, it’s nostalgic, it’s about the music that you love at 15, and being in touch with your teenage self. It’s a feel-good movie which we hope will bring joy to people. There are more serious things to be concerned about right now but hopefully this can bring some joy once it can get going. (Abba-themed movie) Mamma Mia! came out soon after the financial crisis hit and we hope this can have a similarly uplifting impact.”
    “Take That are very much involved in it. They’re excited about the idea of the film and are involved at every step. The plan is for them to write an original song and we’ll use a number of their classic songs. There were 16 of their songs in the stage versions.”

Thank you to everyone who has been watching the Late Late Shows from my garage. I’ll be back soon. Stay safe and well everybody.”

    AceShowbiz – Will Smith has reunited with his co-stars from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” for the season finale of his Snapchat isolation show.
    The superstar revisited the 1990s sitcom which turned him into a household name for “Will From Home”, reconnecting virtually with castmates Alfonso Ribeiro, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Daphne Maxwell Reid, and Joseph Marcell, who portrayed butler Geoffrey.
    In the first instalment of the two-part finale, which premiered on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, Smith recalled how Ribeiro, who played Carlton Banks, encouraged him to name his onscreen character after himself.

    Remembering the conversation, Smith told his old pal, “It was such a deep insight that you had. You said, ‘Because people are going to call you that for the rest of your life!’ ”
    Meanwhile, DJ Jazzy Jeff, who was also Smith’s musical partner, admitted there is only one downside to always being recognised as his character Jazz.
    “I got really, really annoyed that everybody wanted to do the handshake (his character shared with Smith onscreen),” the DJ said. “You would see in people’s eyes when they were about to sneak the handshake and I would just grab their hand and hold it. Besides that, I’m good!”
    The co-stars also expressed their relief at Jeff’s recovery after recently battling coronavirus symptoms, and took a moment to remember late TV patriarch James Avery, who was known for his role as Phillip Banks. He died in 2014.
    The second part of the final episode will debut on Snapchat on Thursday.

    AceShowbiz – Colin Firth regrets taking his star-making role as Mr. Darcy in the BBC’s adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice” – as it led to him being typecast as a brooding hunk.
    The British actor left audiences hot under the collar after emerging from a lake, dripping wet, in just a shirt and underclothes in the miniseries’ most memorable scene, earning him instant heartthrob status.
    However, he says the role initially had a negative impact on his career, because it meant he was restricted to dull roles that focused on his looks.
    “It tended to create this image that can restrict what kind of roles you are going to be able to find,” he tells Britain’s Good Housekeeping magazine. “Looking good and strutting around is very boring. I wanted to do other things as an actor.”
    The role also helped him land a part as Mark Darcy in the “Bridget Jones” films, a modern incarnation inspired by Jane Austen’s aloof but romantic hero. But he says the attention that came with those films also made him deeply uncomfortable – as he didn’t like being thought of as a Hollywood star.
    “I gained a lot of attention but there was a side of me that resisted all of that,” he explains. “Perhaps what kept me from wanting to be a big star, to use that term, is that I just hate the way that some stars behave. There’s a lot of arrogance and indulgence when it comes to some major actors.”
    Happily, Colin, 59, has found more rewarding roles later in his career, including an Oscar-winning turn as King George VI in 2010’s “The King’s Speech”. The star also pinpoints his Oscar-nominated performance as a gay university professor in Tom Ford’s 2009 film “A Single Man” as a turning point.
    “I was playing an older, sadder kind of figure and suddenly you’re seen in a different way,” he adds.

    AMC announces the decision following NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell’s comments about the on-demand success of the animated movie and what it means for the future of moviegoing.

    AceShowbiz – AMC Theaters is cutting ties with Universal Pictures in the wake of “Trolls World Tour” digital success. As the studio is celebrating the $100 million gross of the animated movie in premium VOD rentals since its April 10 release in North America, the world’s largest cinema chain has decided not to play any of the studio’s films from now on.
    This move was prompted by NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell’s comments on the on-demand success of the “Trolls” and how it would affect the studio’s strategy to release its movies in the future post-coronavirus pandemic. “The results for ‘Trolls World Tour’ have exceeded our expectations and demonstrated the viability of PVOD,” Shell told The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the numbers. “As soon as theaters reopen, we expect to release movies on both formats.”
    Shell’s statement didn’t sit well with AMC Theatres chair-CEO Adam Aron, who called the comments unacceptable. In a letter to Universal Filmed Entertainment Group chairman Donna Langley, he wrote, “It is disappointing to us, but Jeff’s comments as to Universal’s unilateral actions and intentions have left us with no choice. Therefore, effectively immediately AMC will no longer play any Universal movies in any of our theaters in the United States, Europe or the Middle East.”
    “This policy affects any and all Universal movies per se, goes into effect today and as our theaters reopen, and is not some hollow or ill-considered threat,” he continued, before giving a stern warning to other studios which decide to do the same practice regarding the release of their movies. “Incidentally, this policy is not aimed solely at Universal out of pique or to be punitive in any way, it also extends to any movie maker who unilaterally abandons current windowing practices absent good faith negotiations between us, so that they as distributor and we as exhibitor both benefit and neither are hurt from such changes.”
    “Currently, with the press comment today, Universal is the only studio contemplating a wholesale change to the status quo. Hence, this immediate communication in response,” it concluded.
    Universal has since responded to AMC’s letter, saying that Shell’s comments were misconstrued. “We absolutely believe in the theatrical experience and have made no statement to the contrary. As we stated earlier, going forward, we expect to release future films directly to theaters, as well as on PVOD when that distribution outlet makes sense,” the studio said in a statement. “We look forward to having additional private conversations with our exhibition partners but are disappointed by this seemingly coordinated attempt from AMC and NATO to confuse our position and our actions.”
    It went on explaining, “Our goal in releasing ‘Trolls: World Tour’ on PVOD was to deliver entertainment to people who are sheltering at home, while movie theatres and other forms of outside entertainment are unavailable. Based on the enthusiastic response to the film, we believe we made the right move.”
    “Trolls World Tour” was originally planned to be released theatrically. But due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that made that an impossibility for now, Universal bypassed theaters in favor of launching the movie on-demand.

    SXSW Hit With Lawsuit After Refusing to Issue Refunds for 2020 Festival Cancellation

    AceShowbiz – SXSW is facing legal trouble for not offering refunds to ticket buyers after its 2020 festival was canceled due to Coronavirus pandemic. The decision led two people, Maria Bromley and Pauta Kleber, to file class action lawsuit against the Austin festival in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas Austin Division on April 24.
    The plaintiffs claimed that they spent over $1,000 each on attending the event that was originally scheduled for March 12-20. In an announcement on March 6, the organizers revealed that ticket and pass holders would not be receiving refunds. However, they would be given free pass to SXSW event in 2021, 2022 or 2023.
    Additionally, the ticket holders were also offered a 50% discount based on the amount they spent in 2020 for another one of those three years. The plaintiffs claimed that the offer expires on April 30 despite the notice stating that it “cannot be certain that future festivals will occur.”
    The complaint read, “SXSW has, in effect, shifted the burden of the COVID-19 pandemic onto festivalgoers … individuals who in these desperate times may sorely need the money they paid to SXSW for a festival that never occurred.”
    Following the suit, an SXSW spokesperson responded in a statement to Billboard, “When Mayor Steve Adler issued an order on March 6, 2020, prohibiting SXSW from holding the 2020 event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we understood and agreed with his tough call. The pandemic and the cancellation have caused a tremendous loss to our business, our staff, the City, and its citizens. We are still picking up the pieces after spending a year to program what would have been a remarkable event that required significant time, energy, and resources to produce.”
    The statement continued, “Due to the unique nature of SXSW’s business, where we are reliant on one annual event, we incurred extensive amounts of non-recoupable costs well in advance of March. These expenditures, and the loss of expected revenue, have resulted in a situation where we do not have the money to issue refunds,”
    “SXSW, like many small businesses across the country, is in a dire financial situation requiring that we rely on our contracts, which have a clearly stated no refunds policy. Though we wish we were able to do more, we are doing our best to reconcile the situation and offered a deferral package option to purchasers of 2020 registrations,” the statement concluded.

    AceShowbiz – Steven Spielberg has repeatedly floated the idea of a sequel to “The Goonies 2”, but can never come up with a plot good enough to top the original movie classic.
    The filmmaker shared the news of the failed discussions on Monday, April 27, as he reconnected with the cast of the 1985 hit on actor Josh Gad’s new virtual series, “Reunited Apart with Josh Gad”.
    The “Frozen (2013)” star is a huge fan of the movie and initially set up the charity livestream so that its stars, including Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, and Martha Plimpton, could catch up and reminisce about the project, but viewers were given an added bonus as “The Goonies”‘ writer and executive producer Spielberg dropped in on the video call as one of several surprise guests, alongside his fellow screenwriter Chris Columbus and director Richard Donner.
    During the chat, Spielberg revealed, “Chris, Dick and I… have had a lot of conversations about it (a sequel). Every couple of years we come up with an idea but then it doesn’t hold water.”
    “The problem is the bar that all of you raised on this genre,” he explained to the castmates. “I don’t think we’ve really successfully been able to find an idea better than “The Goonies” that we all made in the ’80s.”
    He then quipped, “Until we do, people are just going to have to look at this (livestream) a hundred times.”

    “The Goonies” was based on a story idea by Spielberg, and focused on a group of kids who embark on an adventure while trying to save their homes from foreclosure.
    Monday’s virtual reunion also featured Donner directing the old pals in a few scene reenactments, after which Columbus joked, “I actually think you guys may be better now!.”
    The one-off Goonies get-together also served as a fundraiser for the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, through which officials are providing relief to vulnerable communities during the coronavirus pandemic.
