Jim Carrey Credits Trailer Backlash for Making 'Sonic the Hedgehog' Better

    WENN/Instar

The live-action adaptation of the SEGA console game has undergone changes at the titular character’s looks after its teaser, which was released in April, drew negative reactions from fans.
    Feb 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jim Carrey is glad fans spoke out against the initial trailer for his new “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie.
The teaser for the film, which stars Carrey as the computer-animated rodent’s nemesis, Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik, was released in April, but devotees of the original SEGA console game expressed dismay at the character’s looks, and the addition of human-like teeth in particular.
Following the controversy, Sonic’s director Jeff Fowler, tweeted, “The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen,” and a new, cartoonish version was revealed in a second trailer last November (2019).
Speaking to Fox News, the star said of the controversy: “It turned out to be a co-op where everybody was in on the creation.”
“I think everybody felt good about it ultimately because (director) Jeff Fowler (had) no ego involved at all. He just went, ‘These people grew up with it, and it’s important to them that we get it right.’ And I think it was just a much better movie because of it.”
The “Bruce Almighty” actor added that he doesn’t create characters “based on what people are saying,” but that he also felt elements of the film weren’t “quite in the pocket” until being reworked.
“It was my concern, as well,” he admitted. “(But) it turned out fantastic.”
“Sonic the Hedgehog” is out now.

Al Pacino Stands by His Casting as Jewish Nazi Hunter for New Amazon Series

    Amazon/Christopher Saunders

‘The Godfather’ star shares his belief that actors should not be limited to their ethnicity as his co-star Logan Lerman calls criticism over the veteran actor’s casting ‘bulls**t.’
    Feb 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Al Pacino has defended his casting as a Jewish person in his new Amazon Prime Video series “Hunters (2020)”.
“The Godfather” star, who is of American-Sicilian descent, plays Meyer Offerman, the Jewish head of a group hunting Nazis in New York in the 1970s in the series, but is unconcerned over criticism of playing a character from a different background to his own.
Pacino tells British newspaper that if actors are “limited to your ethnicity” he would only be able to play New York Italians.
He went on to say that he believes that he has “no problem” with such roles – as long as he fulfils the writers’ vision.
“Maybe more in films because it’s more literal or more naturalistic, but if you play the oboe, you play the oboe,” he adds. “It doesn’t matter what you are, you’re in the orchestra, you’re doing the thing, you’re playing the music. (Here) you’re playing the playwright.”
His co-star Logan Lerman, who is Jewish, objected to the idea Pacino should have been passed over for a Jewish actor, adding: “That’s bulls**t. As a Jewish person I can say that. Come on, anybody can play the role.”
The 79-year-old has played a famous Jewish character on screen before, taking on the role of William Shakespeare’s infamous moneylender Shylock in a 2004 movie adaptation of “The Merchant of Venice”.
Now, he has another of the playwright’s characters in his sights – ageing monarch King Lear.
“My hope is that I’ll get through this next phase of my life with all the stuff that’s going on and look at Lear again – seriously thinking about making a film of it,” he reveals. I wouldn’t do it on stage. It’s not what I want to go on stage with, Lear, but in a film…”.
    “Hunters” debuts on February 21.

Zoe Kravitz: Filming 'The Batman' With Robert Pattinson Is Going to Be Such an Adventure

    WENN/Avalon/Nicky Nelson

The ‘Big Little Lies’ actress, who will be seen as Catwoman in the superhero movie, reveals that she and her ‘delightful’ co-star have been training and rehearsing together.
    Feb 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Zoe Kravitz loves working with Robert Pattinson on “The Batman” and described the actor as “perfect” for the role.
The 31-year-old actress, who plays Catwoman alongside the 33-year-old actor’s Caped Crusader, opened up in a new interview with Variety about teaming up with the star on the project, and confessed he’s “just a delightful person and such a wonderful, thoughtful actor.”
“I’ve never worked with him before, but we’ve been together for the last few weeks, I had to camera test with him and now we’ve been training together and rehearsing together,” she said.
“I think he’s perfect for the role and it’s going to be such an adventure,” she added. “I’m excited to have him as my partner in crime and to be there to support each other, because it’s intense. It’s going to be a long shoot and there’s a lot of pressure, and I know he has my back and I have his.”
After Pattinson’s costume was revealed in a clip from a screen test shared online, Zoe opened up on the pressure she feels following in the footsteps of stars including Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry, who also played the role.
“It was a little scary, but also whenever I get nervous about something, I feel it pushes me to a better place anyway, so I welcome the nerves,” she reflected. “If you start focusing too much on what people are going to think you’re doing yourself a disservice, it’s almost like you’re putting your energy in the wrong place.”
“Of course, I want to honor the fans and hope they like what I do with the role, but in order to do what I think I need to do with Catwoman I have to go internal and forget about the rest of the world.”

'Stranger Things' Brings Back This Character in First Teaser for Season 4

    Netflix

The beloved character who many assumed dead at the end of the last season surprisingly make an appearance in the first teaser for the upcoming fourth season.
    Feb 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – The brains behind “Stranger Things” have stunned fans of the Netflix show by revealing David Harbour’s character, Hopper, is still alive in the first trailer for season four.
The beloved Indiana police chief was killed off in an explosion at the end of the last season, prompting devotees to slam the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, but they were given a glimmer of hope when Harbour demanded to know what had become of his character.
    [embedded content]
During an appearance on U.S. show “Late Night With Seth Meyers” in October 2019, the actor said, “I always knew that Hopper had to make a sacrifice. He’s a jerk and he needs to pay for that in some way, so I thought he’d make the sacrifice and then the script came out and… at the end, (in) the post-credits scene there’s ‘the American’, and I’m like, ‘Oh, clearly I’m the American…!’ And then, I haven’t gotten many phone calls.”
In a post-credits scene at the end of season three, Russian prison guards referred to one captive as “the American.”
He then agreed to FaceTime the Duffer Brothers and ask them what their plans were.
“I have a question…,” he said. “Am I dead? Is Hopper dead?”
“I mean, we’re still figuring it out, David,” Ross Duffer responded.
Harbour shot back, “You guys are a lot of help, thanks. Really wonderful work. Good luck with season four. Love you guys, love you, bye.”
But now the Duffers have revealed Hopper’s character survived the blast, placing his character in Russia, working as a prison labourer on a railway line.
Netflix dropped the first look at the highly-anticipated fourth season of “Stranger Things” on Friday, February 14, 2020.
“We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway – and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper!” a statement from the Duffer Brothers reads. “Although it’s not all good news for our ‘American’; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human… and other. Back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything.”
“Season four is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime – pray for the American… From Russia with love.”

Every Singer Should Do 'The Masked Singer', Says Jake Shears After Elimination

    ITV

The Scissor Sisters musician says singing incognito is not easy as he challenges all performers to hide their faces behind masks and compete on the singing contest.
    Feb 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jake Shears would like to see all performers take part in “The Masked Singer”, calling the show the “ultimate challenge.”
The singer was unveiled as The Unicorn on the U.K. version of the franchise, which sees celebrities perform tunes in elaborate costumes in a bid to outsmart judges and viewers and win the title.
Reflecting on the experience, the “I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ ” hitmaker told Rolling Stone, “I think every performer should be required to do a season of Masked Singer.”
“It’s the ultimate challenge: How do you manage to be entertaining while basically performing in what equals a diving suit from 100 years ago?” he explained. “It’s not easy. But it was a strange kind of thrill. Also, the fact that I got to sing “Babooshka” by Kate Bush on U.K. national television dressed as a flaming unicorn was the ultimate reward.”
The Scissor Sisters star released his new single, “Meltdown”, on Friday, February 14, 2020, which is the first tune to be lifted from his upcoming disco-influenced album. After releasing his debut solo effort in 2018 with a more experimental feel, Jake said he’s ready to return to his trademark dance style.
“It felt like a real plunge stepping out on my own,” he said. “That album was my dream of taking the theatrical rock facet of my musical style and tuning it into a fiercely personal concept record. Now, I’m ready to make some dance music again.”

Wendy Williams Apologizes for Telling Gay Men to Stop Wearing Skirts and Heels

    Instagram

The ‘Wendy Williams Show’ host says in a new video that she didn’t mean to offend the LGBTQ+ community after her insensitive comments sparked backlash on the internet.
    Feb 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Wendy Williams regretted her insensitive remarks about gay men in the February 13 episode of her show. She told gay men to stop dressing up as women and, soon after it sparked outrage online, she apologized in a video message.
“I’ll start by saying, I apologize,” she opened her video. “I did not mean to offend my LGBTQ+ community on yesterday’s show. I did not realize until I got home and I watched the second running of our show here in New York. And I always watch when I can to critique my delivery or, you know, the cameras, the lights, the audience.”
“I’m very persnickety about how I do my show and one thing I can tell you right now is I never do the show in a place of malice,” she added. “I understand my platform with the community from first grade, to intermediate school, to high school, to college, to radio and now to TV. And I didn’t mean to hurt anybody’s feelings. I’m just having a conversation.”
“I’m 55 years old, and maybe I sounded like your auntie, your mother, your big sister, or somebody out of touch. I’m not out of touch, except for perhaps yesterday by saying what I said,” she went on. “So I deeply apologize and I deeply appreciate the support that I get from the community. I will do better. I appreciate you supporting me. Thank you.”

While talking about Valentine’s Day, Wendy previously said, “I don’t care if you’re gay. You don’t get a menses every 28 days. You can do a lot that we do, but I get offended by the idea that we go through something you will never go through.”
“And stop wearing our skirts and our heels,” she added. “Looky here now, gay men, you’ll never be the women that we are. No matter how gay.”
