'RuPaul's Drag Race' Star Announces New Podcast Inspired by 'America's Next Top Model'

    Instagram

Shea Coulee has a new podcast called ‘Wanna Be on Top?’ where she’ll talk about the Tyra Banks-hosted television show after binge-watching the old episodes.

    Apr 11, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
“Rupaul’s Drag Race” stand out Shea Coulee is fulfilling a lifelong dream by lifting up the stars of “America’s Next Top Model” in a new podcast.

The popular drag queen contest’s “All-Stars 5” champion is set to take centre stage for the new audio series, titled “Wanna Be on Top?”, for which she’ll reteam with former show stars Willam and Alaska, who are taking on executive producer roles.

Shea, real name Jaren Kyei Merrell, will share her expertise on the show she calls “my herstory” twice a week for the new podcast.

“I wanted to do a podcast for a really long time,” she tells Entertainment Weekly.

“I tossed around a lot of different ideas until I found myself binge-watching old seasons of America’s Next Top Model for probably the 20th time and then talked about it over and over with all of my friends who’ve probably heard me go on about it many times before.”

“(I realised) this is what I should talk about forever! It’s my herstory (sic).”

In “Wanna Be on Top?”, the bubbly star, who previously walked the runway for Savage X Fenty, will examine the impact of the Tyra Banks-hosted model competition on pop and drag culture, and she’ll also welcome special guests to share their own love for the reality TV staple.

And she’s most thrilled about helping to elevate some of the “America’s Next Top Model” contestants because, when the programme began, its participants weren’t taken too seriously.

“The show went out there with the intent to launch the careers of top models, but at the time, reality television influencers weren’t a thing,” she shares, “so the fashion industry didn’t take these girls seriously. It was the fashion Olympics. It’s sad to think that those girls didn’t get the opportunities…”

“I feel for them because they went through such a challenging experience, and the industry that they hoped would accept them rejected them…”

“That’s why I want to celebrate them and give them a voice, and also allow people to see what amazing, beautiful people they are… I looked at those girls the way Drag Race fans look at us now.”

“Wanna Be On Top?” debuts on 12 April wherever you get your podcasts.

Topher Grace: Nerdiness Got Me 'That '70s Show' Role

    WENN

The ‘Spider-Man 3’ actor believes he landed his lifetime role on the classic television comedy show, despite his lack of acting experience, because he was a ‘real, actual nerd.’

    Apr 11, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Topher Grace is convinced he was only cast in TV comedy “That ’70s Show” because he’s a “real, actual nerd” as he had no idea about acting when he first auditioned.

The star was still a teenager trying to figure out his future career path when a friend suggested he try out for the new sitcom – but Topher had already decided acting was “never” going to be part of his plan.

“It was something I wasn’t even interested in,” he laughed on America’s “Live with Kelly and Ryan”. “I had interned at Casting (department) at ABC (Television) and all it taught me was that I should probably never go in to acting.”

“It looked like everyone was getting rejected all the time so it was never something I thought about doing.”

Then, when he was a student at the University of Southern California, Grace got a call from a friend who had put his name forward as a possible future star of the new TV comedy.

      See also…

“I’d really never auditioned, and they (casting directors) said, ‘Why don’t you come to this audition?’ They said, ‘Bring a headshot and a resume,’ and I had no idea what a headshot even was.”

So he asked the crewmember to explain, “They said, ‘It’s a picture that goes with your resume so we understand who you are.’ ”

“My… resume said Dunkin’ Donuts (restaurant) and Suncoast Video that I worked at (sic). My headshot was me at Six Flags Magic Mountain (theme park) with a bunch of my friends.”

Of course he got the job as Eric Forman on “That ’70s Show”, which also made stars of castmates Laura Prepon, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Wilmer Valderrama, and troubled actor Danny Masterson, and ran on America’s Fox Network from 1998 to 2006.

And the dad-of-two knows why he was tipped for the life-changing role, despite being a total amateur at the time.

“They were looking for a real actual nerd, not like, someone who was playing a nerd,” he smiled. “And they got one.”

    Paramount Pictures

Jennifer Connelly reveals she found herself in shock when she was with Tom Cruise getting ready to fly in a tiny plane on the set of the ‘Top Gun’ sequel.

    Apr 11, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Jennifer Connelly was scared of flying in airplanes before filming “Top Gun: Maverick”.

The “Snowpiercer” star admitted she was afraid to tell her co-star Tom Cruise about her fear of flying and only signed on to the movie at first because her character was not supposed to have any flight scenes.

Jennifer – who plays the sequel’s female lead, a single mother who runs a local bar near the Navy base – told chat show host Graham Norton, “I was actually afraid to tell Tom at the time that I had only just recently talked myself out of a crippling fear of flying. When I signed on for the movie there was no flying for my character.”

“I suddenly found myself taxiing on a runway in a tiny plane with Tom and he said, ‘Have you been on a plane like this before? Have you ever done any aerobatic flying before?’ ”

      See also…

She continued, “I started to get very nervous when he said, ‘It will be very graceful and very elegant,’ and that’s how I found out I would be up in the P51 with Tom flying it!”

Meanwhile, Tom, 58, is famous for doing his own movie stunts but admitted this has led to “a lot of broken bones.”

He said, “I am a very physical actor and I love doing them. I study and train and take a lot of time figuring it all out. I have broken a lot of bones!”

“The first time of any stunt is nerve-wracking, but it’s also exhilarating. I have been told a few times during shooting a stunt to stop smiling.”

Justin Timberlake to Explore Secret Life of Chuck Barris Series in New Apple Plus Series

    Instagram

The untitled project, which is based on 1984 memoir ‘Confessions of a Dangerous Mind’, will see the pop superstar-turned-actor taking on the role of ‘The Gong Show’ host.

    Apr 10, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Justin Timberlake is set to portray U.S. game show host and alleged CIA assassin Chuck Barris in a new Apple TV+ series.

The pop superstar-turned-actor will take on the lead role in the as-yet-untitled series, based on Barris’ wild 1984 memoir, “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind”, in which he claimed to have become a TV personality, hosting “The Gong Show” and creating popular series like “The Dating Game” and “The Newlywed Game”, as an elaborate cover for his real job as an undercover agent in the 1960s and ’70s.

CIA officials denied ever working with Barris, but the autobiography previously inspired the 2002 film of the same name, directed by George Clooney and starring Sam Rockwell. Barris himself said in a 194 interview on NBC’s “Today” show, “No, I was never a CIA hitman.”

      See also…

“I never did those things. I once applied for the CIA, and while I was going through the process I got a job and went on television,” the TV host who died in 2017 at the age of 87 added. “But I had always wondered what would have happened if I had done both.”

Now Timberlake will be exploring the secret life of Barris for a new hour-long drama series, with the pilot penned by showrunner Jon Worley, according to Deadline. Worley will be sharing the showrunner position with “Ray Donovan” executive producer David Hollander.

The project was recently picked up at auction by Apple bosses, who previously worked with Timberlake on the recent Fisher Stevens drama “Palmer”. It will be co-produced by Miramax and Paramount Television Studios.

CBS Accused of Hypocrisy for 'Exploiting' Sharon Osbourne's Racism Scandal for 'The Talk' Ratings

    CBS/Cliff Lipson

In other news, it has been reported that the talk show is set to end its month-long hiatus on Monday, April 12 as the remaining co-hosts will discuss ‘race and healing’ with diversity, equity, inclusion and justice expert Dr. Donald E. Grant.

    Apr 10, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
CBS faces backlash after it keeps promoting “The Talk” using clip featuring Sharon Osbourne defending Meghan Markle against the British royal family. The said clip was taken two days before Osbourne had an on-air argument with co-host Sheryl Underwood over Piers Morgan, leading to Osbourne getting fired from the show.

According to Daily Mail, some industry insiders accused the network of “hypocrisy” over the incident. Additionally, a source close to the wife of Ozzy Osbourne believed that CBS is “exploiting the controversy for ratings.”

In the episode, which was taken before Piers made controversial comments on Meghan and her bombshell revelations in her interview with Oprah Winfrey, Osbourne was seen slamming the royal family and the queen. She also described that their alleged poor treatment toward the Duchess of Sussex was an “absolute racism at its height.”

      See also…

Despite that, Osbourne defended her pal Piers who accused Meghan of lying and refused to believe her. “I supported my friend with his freedom of speech and his opinions of what he felt about the interview of Meghan and Harry,” she said at the time. “Did I like everything he said, did I agree with what he said? No. Because it’s his opinion, it’s not my opinion.”

Her stance on the whole matter earned her criticism from most poeple including co-host Sheryl. The pair had a tense argument on-air before CBS eventually decided to let Osbourne go.

In other news, it has been reported that “The Talk” is set to return on Monday, April 12 following their month-long hiatus. In the upcoming episode, the remaining co-hosts including Sheryl, Carrie Ann Inaba, Amanda Kloots and Elaine Welteroth are set to have an important discussion regarding “race and healing” with diversity, equity, inclusion and justice expert Dr. Donald E. Grant.

” ‘The Talk’ returns with a discussion about race and healing; expert on diversity, equity, inclusion and justice Dr. Donald E. Grant will offer advice on how to have these difficult conversations; nationally acclaimed trauma therapist and life coach Dr. Anita Phillips will share her expertise on how to heal after a painful event or conversation,” a statement read. Life coach Dr. Anita Phillips is also set to make an appearance in the episode.

Elijah Wood and Patrick Schwarzenegger Clash on Twitter Over 'Indiana Jones 5' Casting Criticism

    WENN/Tony Forte

The ‘Lord of the Rings’ actor and the ‘Midnight Sun’ star are involved in a back-and-forth after the latter appears to question Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s casting in the upcoming Harrison Ford-starring movie.

    Apr 10, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Elijah Wood may not be involved in “Indiana Jones 5” (“Indiana Jones V”) in any capacity, but he makes sure everyone knows that the project has got his full support. The actor has butted heads with Patrick Schwarzenegger to defend Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s casting in the movie.

It all started with Schwarzenegger’s apparent criticism over the addition of the “Fleabag” actress to the cast of the Harrison Ford-starring film. The son of actor and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote while retweeting the casting announcement, “I love Indiana Jones but just not sure about this.”

Taking it as an offense, Wood challenged the 27-year-old to explain why he opposed to Waller-Bridge’s casting. “not sure about what exactly? the mighty force of Phoebe Waller-Bridge? the brilliant James Mangold?” the Frodo Baggins of the “Lords of the Rings” film trilogy wrote back to the younger star.

Catching wind of Wood’s clapback, Schwarzenegger simply wrote, “Another film!” The “Midnight Sun” star seemingly wanted to clarify that he takes issue with the idea of making another “Indiana Jones” installment instead of with the talents billed for the movie.

      See also…

Wood seemingly accepted Schwarzenegger’s explanation. “haha. fair!” he tweeted in reply, though he still keeps his hopes high for the upcoming movie as he added, “a chance for redemption is hopeful”.

Elijah Wood and Patrick Schwarzenegger had Twitter back-and-forth over ‘Indiana Jones 5’ casting news.

On Friday, April 9, Amblin Entertainment announced that Waller-Bridge would star in the untitled fifth “Indiana Jones” movie that will bring Ford back as the iconic archaeologist. “Logan” director James Mangold will take over the reins of the film series from Steven Spielberg, who will instead serve as a producer alongside longtime collaborator Frank Marshall and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

“I’m thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers,” Mangold said in a statement confirming he’s on board the project. “Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can’t help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.”

“Indiana Jones 5” is scheduled for July 29, 2022 release.

Cher Excited for 'Mamma Mia! 3' After Previously Turning It Down

    Universal Pictures

The ‘Dark Lady’ singer originally ruled out any potential return to the third installment of the ABBA musical movie but she reportedly has since changed her decision.

    Apr 10, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Cher has reportedly changed her mind about starring in “Mamma Mia! 3” after insisting no one “wants to see us old people on screen.”

The music icon featured in the musical comedy sequel “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” and revealed that she is prepared to reprise the role so she can duet with her on-screen daughter Donna Sheridan-Carmichael (Meryl Streep).

According to producer Judy Craymer – who has worked on both the stage and cinematic versions of the ABBA musical – Cher, 74, had told her, “No one wants to see us old people on the screen.”

Judy responded by saying that she wanted Cher to be in the film and would love to see her sing “Slipping Through My Fingers” with Meryl.

This prompted a change of heart from the singer, who retorted, “I’m there! When do we start shooting?”

Judy admits the scene would have to be in the form of a flashback after Meryl’s character was killed off.

      See also…

She told the Baz Bamigboye column in the Daily Mail newspaper, “Oh well, you can do anything these days in a film.”

Craymer has hinted that “Mamma Mia! 3” is “sizzling” in development and noted that a number of cast members, including Dame Julie Walters, Lily James, Colin Firth, and Amanda Seyfried, have expressed their desire to appear in the flick.

She shared, “Julie said she’d come out retirement! I’ve always said it would be a trilogy.”

Amanda previously cast doubt on the possibility of a third “Mamma Mia!” movie, suggesting that there isn’t enough ABBA music to make it happen.

The “Mank” star said, “So yeah, I wish there was a ‘Mamma Mia 3’, but I’ll tell you what – I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and I hope I’m wrong again.”

“I don’t think there are enough ABBA songs to make a third movie.”

“Because we’d have to use ‘Super Trooper’ again and we’d have to use ‘Mamma Mia’ again and have to use them in a different way.”
