Kate Winslet Acknowledges Her Lesbian Scenes Got More Attention Than Her Other Love Scenes

    Neon

When asked if conversation about her sex scenes with Saoirse Ronan felt distracting, the ‘Ammonite’ star stresses on the need to support the LGBTQ community and make them more visible.

    Mar 24, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Kate Winslet has been asked more about the lesbian scenes in her new film “Ammonite” than any heterosexual sex romps.

The Oscar winner portrays real-life English paleontologist Mary Anning in the film, which chronicles her secret relationship with Charlotte Murchison, played by Saoirse Ronan. And the project is definitely getting attention – mainly because of the love scenes.

“I definitely feel a sort of a duty to serve Mary Anning… and the story,” Kate told Digital Spy. “The story is so much about her, and her remarkable achievements that were unsung, unknown, re-appropriated by men, taken from her wrongfully.”

“I didn’t feel, ‘Oh, God, let me get away from the talking about the sex scenes and come back to that!’ but what I definitely found really striking is that people seem to talk about the love scenes in the film in ways that are much more focused, because it’s two women,” she continued.

Kate further shared the reason why she did not mind the sex scenes talks. “I’m telling you, with my hand on my heart, I have never been asked the same volume of questions about love scenes of a heterosexual nature, of which I have shot many in my life. And so that to me… that’s a conversation,” she explained.

The 45-year-old went on to express what she hope the movie could bring to the LGBTQ community. “You know, there’s no shame around this, it’s just two women who love each other. And for me, I really hope that that contributes to the evolution and progression of how audiences view LGBTQ people and their relationships just by normalizing it completely.”

David Thewlis to Be Murderous Couple With Olivia Colman in 'Landscapers'

    WENN/Joe/Avalon

Inspired by real events, the HBO drama series itself follows mild-mannered couple Christopher and Susan Edwards who become the focus of investigation for a crime that went undetected for 15 years.

    Mar 24, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Actor David Thewlis has signed on to play Olivia Colman’s onscreen husband in a limited TV series based on a real-life murder mystery.

“Landscapers” will feature the pair as convicted murders Christopher and Susan Edwards, who fatally shot Susan’s parents, Patricia and William Wycherley, and buried them in their back garden in Mansfield, England in 1998.

Their heinous crime went undetected for 15 years, as the couple looted the Wycherleys’ bank accounts and spent the money on Hollywood memorabilia.

They eventually turned themselves in to police, and in 2014, the Edwards were sentenced to life in prison, with each ordered to serve a minimum of 25 years behind bars.

Sharing his joy at landing the series, “Fargo” star Thewlis stated, “This is without doubt the very finest project I have worked on for many years.”

“Everything about ‘Landscapers’ is magical, there is nothing like it and I’m impatient to get to work so that its brilliance can be shared with the rest of the world.”

Production on the four-part drama, written by Colman’s husband, Ed Sinclair, is already underway in the U.K. after an initial delay relating to the COVID crisis.

“Giri/Haji”‘s Will Sharpe is directing the show, following Alexander Payne’s exit last year (2020) due to a scheduling conflict.

On his part helming the series, Sharpe said, “It’s a huge privilege to be collaborating with Ed, Sister, Sky, HBO and our extraordinary cast and crew on this exciting project.” He added, “We cannot wait to unearth for you the bizarre shape-shifting truths that lie buried in the unsettling yet deeply romantic world of ‘Landscapers’.”

'John Wick' Creator Gets Sidelined for Fourth and Fifth Films

    Netflix/Niko Tavernise

Though saying that he was not invited back by studio officials for the follow-ups, Derek Kolstad claims he is still close to Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, and is excited to see what the franchise will offer.

    Mar 24, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
The creator and writer behind Keanu Reeves’ hit “John Wick” film series has reportedly been sidelined for the planned fourth and fifth movies in the action franchise.

Derek Kolstad penned the 2014 original and its sequel, 2017’s “John Wick: Chapter 2”, while he also had a writing credit on 2019’s “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum”. However, he won’t be involved in the next two follow-ups, because Kolstad claims he simply wasn’t invited back by studio officials.

He tells Collider, “It wasn’t my decision. When you think of the, contractually, of these things, the third one I shared the credit with any number of people, they didn’t have to come back to me, and so they didn’t.”

Kolstad insists he has accepted the news and just wants the franchise to continue doing well.

“At a certain stage the studio will tell you, your creation is graduated, and you wish it well. I’m still close with [filmmaker] Chad [Stahelski], still close with [John Wick co-director] David [Leitch], and I don’t know what’s going to happen. But I’m excited to see.”

Reeves is set to return as the titular hitman, with Chad Stahelski back in the director’s chair for “John Wick: Chapter 4”, which was solely written by Shay Hatten, who worked with Kolstad and two others on “Chapter 3”.

Production is expected to begin soon ahead of a May, 2022 release date.

Although Kolstad is no longer involved in the big screen projects, he is still working on “The Continental”, a TV spin-off series set in the John Wick universe, which has been optioned by U.S. network bosses at Starz.

“Well, they’re about to make some pretty large announcements in the next couple of weeks in regards to what’s going to happen there. Can’t say much, but it’s happening,” Kolstad said of the upcoming show.

Kenya Moore 'Genuinely Sorry' for Native American Costume, Bravo Hopes It to Be Teachable Moment

    Instagram

‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’ star is facing backlash for ‘cultural appropriation’ after dressing up as a ‘warrior princess’ to a costume party in the March 21 episode of the hit reality show.

    Mar 24, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Kenya Moore has expressed remorse for her offensive Halloween costume. Having come under fire for wearing a Native American headdress and costume in an episode of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”, the reality TV star said she was “genuinely sorry,” leading Bravo to share hope it could serve as a teachable moment.

The 50-year-old issued her apologetic statement via Twitter on Tuesday, March 23. “I want to sincerely apologize for inappropriately wearing the Native American headdress as a costume,” she said. “I now realize that this was both disrespectful and insensitive and would never have done it if I had that knowledge and understanding beforehand. I regret it. When you know better, you do better. I am genuinely sorry.”

Kenya Moore apologized for her offensive Halloween costume.

Also responding to the cultural appropriation controversy was the series’ network. “Bravo aims to have the highest standards of respect and inclusivity and we recognize that the recent episode of ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’, in which a cast member wears a Native American costume, did not uphold those values,” it said in a statement to the press.

“We had hoped it would provide a teachable moment, however in retrospect it is clear that the network did not address this properly given the gravity of the situation,” the network continued in its message. “We apologize to both the Native American community and our audience as a whole.”

Kenya faced backlash for “cultural appropriation” after dressing up as a “warrior princess” to a costume party in the Sunday, March 21 episode of “RHOA”. Some of her co-stars also took issue with her wardrobe choice. One in particular was Drew Sidora who stated in a confessional, “Kenya’s Native American costume is super problematic but I ain’t trying to ruffle no feathers for this girls’ trip.”

Drew went on, “It feels like I’m always the only one that sees the issues with Kenya Moore’s decisions.” Porsha Williams chimed in by stating, “Kenya is a Native American warrior. I thought we weren’t doing that no more. Like, I knew that this girl was crazy, but add lame to the list, add whack to the list.”

On Monday, March 22, a nonprofit initiative named IllumiNative condemned Kenya’s costume. “We are deeply disturbed by last night’s episode of #RHOA in which @thekenyamoore wore a Native American ‘warrior princess’ costume,” the organization stated on Twitter and Instagram. “Costumes that mock Native peoples, defame our traditions and cultures, and perpetuate negative stereotypes are racist.”

” ‘Playing Indian’ is a form of mascotry that is not just offensive, it is part of a long history of how Native peoples have been dehumanized,” the nonprofit further argued. “It is important that @bravotv, @comcast, @nbcuniversal, @bravoandy and @thekenyamoore apologize for the harm they have caused Native peoples and commit to ensuring offensive displays like this never happen again. Native people are not a costume.”
