Piers Morgan's Comment About Meghan's Suicidal Thoughts Becomes Most Complained TV Moment

    WENN

The controversial comment made by the former ‘Good Morning Britain’ co-host about Meghan Markle’s mental health struggles breaks complaint record in British TV history.

    Mar 18, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Piers Morgan’s TV attack on the Duke & Duchess of Sussex has become the most complained about moment in British television history.

Ofcom bosses have revealed they received over 57,100 complaints about Morgan’s remarks on “Good Morning Britain” after the outspoken newsman upset many viewers by questioning the Duchess’ claims she felt suicidal when the British media turned on her – something she discussed during a tell-all TV interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired last week (ends12Mar21).

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex was among those who filed an official complaint over Piers’ controversial remarks.

In the TV sit down, Meghan recalled wanting to end her own life after facing relentless, and often racist, attacks in the U.K. press as she struggled to adjust to life as a royal, but claimed palace officials denied her request to seek treatment.

Morgan refused to apologise for his remarks and, after clashing with a colleague on-air, he subsequently quit his job at “Good Morning Britain”.

It has since emerged that a representative for Meghan has also written to chiefs at regulatory group Ofcom about the situation, expressing concerns about Morgan’s attitude towards mental health in general, and how it could impact others needing help.

Morgan cited freedom of speech as he defended himself following his TV exit, “I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”

Michelle Obama Feels Unworthy to Have Viola Davis Portray Her in 'The First Lady'

    Instagram/WENN

The former U.S. First Lady has responded to Viola Davis’ casting as her in an upcoming anthology series which will also star Michelle Pfeiffer and Gillian Anderson.

    Mar 18, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama doesn’t feel “worthy” enough to have Oscar winner Viola Davis portray her onscreen.

The “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” star has been tapped as Mrs. Obama in “The First Lady”, an upcoming anthology series in which actor O-T Fagbenle will play her husband, Barack Obama, and Michelle cannot believe the incredible casting.

“I feel that I’m not worthy,” she tells Entertainment Tonight. “I wish I could be better to live up to the character that Viola has to play, but it’s exciting.”

“Anything Viola does, she does it with passion and vigour, and I know she will do no less for this role.”

      See also…

Viola previously explained how she was “a little scared” to be playing Michelle in the show, which also stars Michelle Pfeiffer as Betty Ford and Gillian Anderson as Eleanor Roosevelt.

The actress said, “She’s smart. She’s confident. She’s articulate. She believes in sisterhood.”

“I wanna honour her. I wanna honour her with this portrayal because that’s what the drama is. That’s what we do as actors, we want to honour the human being. We don’t want to give a portrayal that isn’t easy for people to swallow.”

The actress is nominated for Best Actress at the upcoming Academy Awards. She is up against Andra Day (“The United States vs. Billie Holiday”), Vanessa Kirby (“Pieces of a Woman”), Frances McDormand (“Nomadland”), and Carey Mulligan (“Promising Young Woman”).

Meanwhile, “The First Lady” is coming to Showtime. Viola Davis will also share screen with the likes of Aaron Eckhart, Dakota Fanning, and Judy Greer.

Sharon Osbourne Enraged as She's Accused of Making Racial and Homophobic Comments About Colleagues

    CBS

The wife of Ozzy Osbourne drops F-bomb as she vehemently denies allegations suggesting that she made offensive comments about ‘The Talk’ co-host Julie Chen and producer Sara Gilbert.

    Mar 18, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Sharon Osbourne has slammed allegations she used racial slurs in an attack on her former “The Talk” co-host Julie Chen in a fiery new statement.

Osbourne’s U.S. daytime show is currently on hiatus as TV bosses investigate a heated exchange between Sharon and Sheryl Underwood on the programme last week (10Mar21), and now rocker Ozzy Osbourne’s wife is facing a new scandal over racially and gender insensitive comments she has allegedly made in the past.

Former “The Talk” co-host Leah Remini has reportedly told a New York Post writer she heard the Brit call Asian-American Chen “slanty eyes” and “wonton” and lesbian sidekick and producer Sara Gilbert “p**sy licker” and “fish eater.”

Osbourne’s publicist, Howard Bragman, told the Post, “The only thing worse than a disgruntled former employee is a disgruntled former talk show host.”

      See also…

“For 11 years Sharon has been kind, collegial and friendly with her hosts as evidenced by throwing them parties, inviting them to her home in the U.K. and other gestures of kindness too many to name. Sharon is disappointed but unfazed and hardly surprised by the lies, the recasting of history and the bitterness coming out at this moment.”

“She will survive this, as she always has and her heart will remain open and good, because she refuses to let others take her down. She thanks her family, friends and fans for standing by her and knowing her true nature.”

And now Osbourne herself is speaking out about the latest drama, telling the Daily Mail, “It’s c**p, all c**p… Everyone’s got an opinion or a story like the wonton story. It’s like f**k off with your f**king wonton story. F**k off!”

“Of course, it’s a pile on. People want to add fuel to the fire and it comes with the territory and that’s fine.”

Sharon is currently considering whether she’ll return to the show when it returns to TV on Tuesday (23Mar21), after facing criticism for defending Piers Morgan over public comments he made about the Duchess of Sussex’s recent tell-all with Oprah Winfrey.

Priyanka Chopra Claps Back as She's Called 'Unqualified' for Announcing Oscar Nominations

    Instagram

The ‘Quantico’ actress is quick to react to the haters who claim she’s unworthy after announcing the Academy Award nominations with her husband Nick Jonas.

    Mar 18, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Priyanka Chopra has hit back at a critic who said she was not “qualified” enough to announce this year’s Oscar nominations.

The “White Tiger” star showed off her acting credentials as she responded to a tweet which questioned why she and her husband, singer/actor Nick Jonas, had been given the honour of unveiling the Academy Awards shortlist on Monday (15Mar21).

The tweet read, “No disrespect to these two but I’m not sure their contribution to the movies qualifies them to be announcing Oscar nominees.”

Quoting the message, Priyanka shared a video of her scrolling through her IMDb profile, which lists all of her acting jobs including “Baywatch”, “Quantico”, and “We Can Be Heroes”, among others.

      See also…

She captioned the post, “Would love your thoughts on what qualifies someone. Here are my 60+ film credentials for your adept consideration. (sic)”

Priyanka’s clapback came after she recently confessed “hate and negativity” have changed her relationship with social media.

The 38-year-old actress – who has 27 million followers on Twitter and 60 million followers on Instagram – explained, “My relationship has changed with social media because of the hate and negativity. I’m just an actor. Look, we live in a world where cancel culture exists in such a large way because it’s easier to hate on someone than to take a minute to understand why anybody says and does what they do.”

“I’ve always been someone who believes in the goodness of human beings, but it seems as the world progresses that we’re afraid of each other and we’re only looking for the worst in each other. What’s the point of giving credibility to a few trolls who choose to live in the darkness, whereas I have such an enormous sea of supporters and I have so much fun with them? So I’ve bifurcated it and I live in the light.”

New Britney Spears Documentary In the Works With Award-Winning Journalist

    Instagram

Hot on heels of the huge success of ‘Framing Britney Spears’, a new film exploring the truth behind the singer’s controversial conservatorship is on the way.

    Mar 18, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
A new documentary exploring the truth behind Britney Spears’ conservatorship is on the way from BBC Two.

Following the massive success of U.S. documentary “Framing Britney Spears”, which documents the “Toxic” singer’s treatment at the hands of reporters and the paparazzi, 2008 public breakdown and a hospital spell, BAFTA-winning journalist Mobeen Azhar’s own investigation into Britney’s situation will air on the TV channel later this spring.

In the documentary, which has a working title of “Britney”, Azhar will be seen journeying from the singer’s hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana to Los Angeles, as well as attending a court hearing and speaking to those fighting for Britney’s freedom.

      See also…

“I went to LA in search of the truth of how Britney Spears, one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, ended up in a conservatorship,” he said in a statement. “I found myself in a world of lawyers, superfans and paparazzi and spent time with many of the people who’ve had a front row seat in Britney’s life.”

“This film taps into the energy of the #FreeBritney movement and questions the industry, fandom and the laws that facilitate conservatorships.”

The Southern Belle was not involved in “Framing Britney Spears” and it’s unclear whether or not she will take part in the upcoming documentary.

Rumor has it, the singer is working on documenting her life journey “said in her own words.” However, a source said, “Under her current conservatorship, she fears her father could take control of the film to paint himself in a better light.”

Sharon Osbourne Unsure If She's Still 'Wanted' on 'The Talk' After Row With Sheryl Underwood

    Instagram

The Osbourne matriarch is unsure about returning to the CBS panel show following her clash with co-host Sheryl Underwood over Piers Morgan and Meghan Markle drama.

    Mar 18, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Sharon Osbourne isn’t sure if she wants to return to “The Talk” because she’s not sure if they even want her back.

The CBS panel show is currently on temporary hiatus this week pending an internal network review after the 10 March (21) episode and Sharon’s explosive confrontation with co-host Sheryl Underwood, when they clashed over Sharon’s decision to defend her friend Piers Morgan against allegations of racism in the wake of his departure from U.K. TV show “Good Morning Britain”.

Now, Sharon has told Entertainment Tonight, “I wish we could go on and have (an) adult conversation calmly and work it out but I don’t know whether we can.”

“I don’t know whether it’s gone past that. I would love to but I don’t know whether I even want to go back… I don’t know whether I’m wanted there.”

The news comes after CBS decided to pull the plug on the live shows on Monday (15Mar21) and Tuesday following the heated row between Sharon and Sheryl.

The discussion started on “The Talk” when Sharon was talking about defending Piers over comments he made following Duchess Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, including insisting he didn’t believe her when she said she’d had suicidal thoughts.

In response, Sheryl said, “While you are standing by your friend, it appears that you are giving validation or safe haven to something that he has uttered that is racist.”

      See also…

Sharon replied, “Educate me, tell me when you have heard him say racist things? I very much feel like I’m about to be put in the electric chair because I have a friend, who many people think is a racist, so that makes me a racist? How can I be racist about anybody or anything in my life.”

The show then cut to a commercial break, but when it returned, she continued to press Sheryl for an explanation as to what was racist about Piers’ comments and added, “And don’t try and cry, because if anyone should be crying, it should be me.”

Now, Sharon has claimed she felt “blindsided” and “set up” with the grilling she received from her co-stars.

“It was like, ‘You’re asking me the questions, you’ve got the questions written down there, and I haven’t even had time to get my head together to come up with a correct answer here,’ ” she added to ET.

“You’re the one accusing me. And I didn’t even know this was happening. It was between her and I. I’m the one that should be crying here. My a** is on the line. I’ve just been pounced on, not even prepared for it.”

And the 68-year-old star – who has also denied allegations of using racist and homophobic slurs toward her former co-hosts – has “apologised” to Sheryl after their row although she hasn’t heard back yet.

“I own up to what I did. I can’t not own up. I said what I said. I got too personal with Sheryl. I should’ve never said stop her tears,” she continued. “She was hurting as I was hurting… I love Sheryl, I’ve apologised to Sheryl, she’s not gotten back and I can understand. Sheryl needs her time.”
