Peter Andre lands new murder mystery TV role after Jafaican backlash

Peter Andre has landed his first-ever drama role in a new TV series, after he was hit with a huge backlash following the release of his new film Jafaican03:08, 29 Jul 2025Peter Andre has secured a serious role within the drama(Image: Anadolu via Getty Images)Peter Andre has bounced back from the controversy surrounding his latest film project, securing a role in a new TV show. The ‘Mysterious Girl’ singer is set to make his debut in a drama role.He faced backlash over his recent film, Jafaican, where he portrays a pretend gangster. Peter took on the lead role in Fredi Nwaka’s latest comedic venture, playing hustler Gary Buckle who attempts to impersonate mob boss Denton ‘Kill Man’ Powell, complete with a fake dreadlock wig and Jamaican accent. The film has been tainted by allegations of cultural appropriation and has been dubbed “tone-deaf” by some viewers. However, Peter shrugged off the criticism and has already embarked on a fresh project. His role in Jafaican caused quite the stir (Image: INSTAGRAM)He will feature in Channel 5’s upcoming programme The Sunshine Murders, alongside Stephanie Beacham, Camilla Rutherford and Nick Moran. Set to air in September, the murder mystery sees Peter in a prominent role. The television personality will adopt a serious persona for the show, donning a white doctor’s coat and clinical rubber gloves to examine victims of grisly murders. He returned to his parents’ native Cyprus to film the series, with his son Junior joining him for support, reports the Mirror. This follows Peter’s defence of his role in Jafaican, as he stated: “I think it’s very easy to criticise something based on a trailer. I would say ‘Go and watch the film first,’ you will see what the film is about and you will see the context.”Speaking to the Daily Star, he continued: “A critic should also be able to criticise, so I understand how it is.”Peter also conceded that the film might not be to everyone’s taste.Princess and Junior have been supportive of Peter’s latest acting career(Image: Shane Anthony Sinclair, Getty Images)Defending his work, Peter remarked: “In regards to critics, I think it is really important for people to all have different opinions.”I don’t think it is right to just expect everyone to like what you’re doing, but I’ve always said that, you know, in anything I’ve ever done I’ve always had people saying: ‘Don’t do that, you shouldn’t do that, that’s not the right song to release, that’s not a good video clip.”He further asserted: “If I sat and listened to everybody telling me what not to do, I would never have achieved anything! I think sometimes you have to just go outside of your comfort zone and push yourself.”Peter’s eldest children, Princess and Junior, joined him at a recent red carpet screening for the film. While promoting the movie on Australian TV earlier in the month, Peter responded to the criticism by saying: “Well, to be fair, I mean, I think it’s good to get all sorts of feedback.”I mean, this is not… it’s my first lead role but I’ve done quite a few roles before. And all of them, I’ve played different characters.”Article continues belowFor the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters. More

Despite their immediate connection, Lisa insists there was no initial romantic spark, reports the Mirror.”He was a judge on a show I loved and I was petrified of him.He was brilliant and gave us all tips so you didn’t want to let him down,” she reminisced.”All I could think was, ‘That sauce hasn’t worked’. I didn’t see anything but food for three months. After I won, we did The Good Food Show and stuff. John and I always got on, but I never thought about me and him.”The BBC and production company Banijay UK have confirmed that Torode’s MasterChef contract won’t be renewed. He also says that any racial language is wholly unacceptable in any environment.”The BBC takes this upheld finding extremely seriously. John Torode’s contract on MasterChef will not be renewed.”Article continues belowDespite Torode’s MasterChef axe, he has still appeared on screens with Lisa for their own TV show. A source close to ITV confirmed to the Mirror their schedules for John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen ‘remain unchanged’ despite John’s sacking from MasterChef. More

Ozzy Osbourne saw farewell gig as a ‘wake’ to let him say goodbye on his terms

Megadeth star David Ellefson said Ozzy Osbourne viewed the Back To The Beginning show as a way for him to say farewell on his terms – he feels the benefit concert was the ‘Live Aid of heavy metal’James Desborough18:25, 28 Jul 2025Ozzy performed at Villa Park just over two weeks before his death(Image: Ross Halfin)Ozzy Osbourne viewed his farewell concert as attending his own “wake” – allowing him to say goodbye on his terms while hanging many of his favourite rock icons and family. The Prince of Darkness revelled in performing and spending two days with bandmates, family and musicians at the Birmingham gig. And according to close friend and Megadeth star David Ellefson it was seen by the hell raising Brummie as the way “for him to say goodbye while he is still here”.Ellefson feels that the Back To The Beginning show, which raised £190m for charities, was the “Live Aid of heavy metal” – adding to Ozzy’s legacy as pioneer of the genre. He said: “Obviously we all knew the end was coming for Ozzy. I feel like this was the wake, the celebration of life for him while he was still here, rather than, ‘oh, he passed. Let’s throw a concert now. It’s sad.’The all-star line-up, with Ozzy in the middle that performed at the Back To The Beginning gig(Image: Ross Halfin)“Sharon really did a great job and all the organizers to do this for Ozzy, but also for him to say goodbye to us or for all of us to say goodbye to him while he’s still here. The way it all teed up here was just it couldn’t have been any better, man.“That was just such a remarkable thing because now that he’s gone, we have great memories of him and having just seen him and perform for us, rather than going, ‘gosh, I sure have wished I could have seen him one last time’.”So I think there is a little bit of divine beauty in how it all has played out actually.”Ellefson says that Ozzy’s frail state was much graver than fans realised.Speaking on his podcast, he added: “It wasn’t some sudden shocking thing and we all had some time to prepare for it.Ozzy Osbourne and American guitarist Zakk Wylde performing in 1989(Image: Getty Images)“Because we all knew the condition. We got to see the condition when we were at the gig. It’s not surprising, but it’s shocking when you hear it. It’s like, ‘we were just with them a couple weeks ago’.”The whole show was just fantastic. It was heavy metal Live Aid. It had that special feeling.Article continues below“It is sad that he’s gone on one level, he was going to be suffering.”So on one level, when someone passes, you’re like, what’s sail on, brother? Get out of this broken body – you gave us a lot.”We can’t ask for anymore, man. Sail on brother. Head back home and see the Lord.” More

Loose Women star aims cryptic dig at ‘people who are quite nauseating to work with’

Loose Women star Janet Street-Porter has said that the reaction of MasterChef co-presenter Gregg Wallace to the scandal that has engulfed him has been “disastrous”15:42, 28 Jul 2025Janet Street-Porter on the Loose Women panel(Image: Ken McKay/ITV/Shutterstock)TV veteran Janet Street-Porter has a bit of a history with MasterChef, having been a finalist in the Celebrity edition back in 2013 where she was pipped to the post by Ade Edmonson’s “boring” cooking, only to make a triumphant return and clinch victory in the 2020 Christmas special.Longtime Loose Women panellist Janet hasn’t minced her words when it comes to co-host Gregg Wallace, describing his handling of recent controversies as “disastrous, absolutely disastrous,” during her chat on the Off Air with Jane and Fi podcast. She didn’t stop there, suggesting that he’s far from the only challenging character in the British television industry.”There are plenty of people like that,” she remarked, acknowledging the less-than-pleasant personalities one might encounter behind the scenes. “There are plenty of people who are quite nauseating to work with. But you know, we just get on with it.”Janet appeared on the show with Katy Brand, Heidi Range and Jo Wood in 2013(Image: BBC/Shine TV)Still harbouring a touch of bitterness over her 2013 MasterChef defeat, Janet claims the dessert she whipped up for the final was later featured at John Torode’s restaurant, a fact she discovered after getting to know both him and Gregg better. “I got to know John and Gregg pretty well then,” she reminisced.”I already knew Gregg because he delivered vegetables to my partner’s restaurant. We knew him as Gregg the Veg from the year dot. Then I did MasterChef the second time, which was a Christmas one, which I’m very pleased to say I won.”Janet recalled that, during her victorious Christmas appearance, she sensed “a bit of a distance” between the show’s presenters Gregg and John, noting that they didn’t seem as friendly as when she fist saw them together.Janet says she detected a growing distance between John Torode and Gregg Wallace(Image: BBC/Shine TV)The MasterChef scandal exploded last year when former Newsnight presenter Kirsty Wark and others accused Gregg of making inappropriate sexual remarks off-camera.Rock legend Sir Rod Stewart then claimed that Wallace had “humiliated” his wife Penny Lancaster during her stint on Celebrity MasterChef in 2021, while reality TV star Charlotte Crosby described him as “extremely unpleasant” during her time on the BBC programme.Ex-host Melanie Sykes also disclosed a “jaw-dropping” encounter with Wallace on the celebrity cooking show, which led her to abandon her television career.Torode and Wallace have consistently denied the most serious allegations against them(Image: Ken McKay/ITV/Shutterstock)Wallace responded to the furore with an Instagram video, insinuating that the complaints were from “middle-class women of a certain age”, sparking further criticism from past Celebrity MasterChef contestants such as Ulrika Jonsson, Kirstie Allsopp, and Emma Kennedy.Amidst the backlash, Wallace retracted his words, apologising for any “offence” or “upset” caused, admitting he was under significant stress when he made the controversial video.Earlier this month, after being sacked from MasterChef and the release of an inquiry’s findings, Wallace shared another video claiming he was exonerated from the “most serious and sensational accusations” levelled against him, whilst conceding that some of his jokes had been inappropriate “at times.”He also warned he wouldn’t fade away silently following his removal from the series.Janet says she believes MasterChef should carry on(Image: BBC/Shine TV)Amidst allegations of racist language by John Torode, his co-host on MasterChef, the chef has expressed that he is “shocked and saddened” by the claims, stating he has “no recollection” of such an incident and acknowledging that any racially-offensive language “is wholly unacceptable in any environment”.Despite the storm brewing around them, both Torode and Wallace have refuted the accusations levelled against them and have stepped down from their roles on MasterChef and Celebrity MasterChef.Yet, even with the recent uproar surrounding the show and the alleged conduct of its hosts, Janet believes the upcoming series featuring the duo should still be aired.Torode and Wallace have consistently denied the most serious allegations against them(Image: PA)She reasons: “I think the reason why it should be put out is, number one, it will be absolutely edited to remove anything that could cause offence or be construed in an unacceptable way.”Janet also emphasises the fairness to the contestants, saying: “Secondly, the time and effort that the contestants put into MasterChef is tremendous. And I think that to deny them their airtime and their moment in the spotlight is cruel, because what happened was nothing to do with them.”The broadcaster insists that the BBC must make the most of the situation, considering the investment already made in filming the episodes.Article continues belowReflecting on her own past as a TV executive, Janet admits to her overzealous approach: “I was a BBC executive,” she confessed. “I was in charge of Junior MasterChef for about five minutes till they took it off me for being slightly overbearing to the contestants.”Janet was reticent to delve into the specifics of her own MasterChef scandal, only revealing that she “made some child cry because I said something about kikifruit with a pork chop.” More
