Highest paid child actor used to vomit on set and died penniless after suing parents

Gary Coleman was one of the highest-paid child actors on television for his role in hit American sitcom Diff’rent Strokes, but he died penniless after a legal battle with his parents14:27, 21 Aug 2025Updated 15:21, 21 Aug 2025Gary Coleman rose to fame in the 1970s(Image: Getty)Gary Coleman died penniless, despite once being one of the highest-earning child actors on television. He died in 2010, with questions raised about the circumstances of his death. The sitcom actor reportedly raked in a staggering $18million (£13m) for his portrayal of Arnold Jackson on the popular American series Diff’rent Strokes, having landed the role at the tender age of 10 in 1978. During the show’s eight-season run, he was pulling in an impressive $70,000 per episode, which equates to around £157,000 in today’s currency. However, the strain clearly took its toll on the young actor, who was managed by his parents. The Independent reports that Gary would vomit after scenes and was allegedly unhappy on set.Gary Coleman died with virtually nothing to his name(Image: Getty)As time went on, viewership began to wane, and it’s believed that the actor vowed never to work in the entertainment industry again. Nevertheless, this didn’t deter his parents from pushing him into other roles, with the publication reporting that Gary “resented that they were still pursuing opportunities for him”.His father, Willie Coleman, was once overheard telling his son: “You gotta get out there and work. You’ve got people depending on you,” reports the Express. The beloved actor continued to land television roles throughout the 1980s and 1990s – even making appearances in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alongside Will Smith and Married… With Children. However, in another unfortunate turn of events for Gary, much of his fortune was being drained to pay his advisory team, which included his parents and a host of lawyers.Gary even took legal action against his own parents, accusing them of mismanaging his finances to the tune of $1.3million. He filed a lawsuit in 1989 after an investigation uncovered that they had siphoned off $770,000 from one of his personal accounts and funnelled the money into unsuccessful investments.Four years on, a judge determined that Gary was short of more than $1million and dismissed an attempt by his parents to place him under a conservatorship. However, this did not resolve his financial woes, and the actor eventually declared bankruptcy in 1999. By the time of his death in 2010, he was essentially penniless.Article continues belowGary tragically passed away at the tender age of 42 due to an intracranial haemorrhage caused by a head injury from a fall.Want all the biggest Showbiz and TV news straight to your inbox? Emmerdale legend set to quit Dales for good as co-star’s soap exit ‘confirmed’

Emmerdale’s Aaron Dingle could be about to leave the Dales forever after revealing he and killer husband John Sugden could move away and start a new life together12:06, 21 Aug 2025Aaron and John could be running away together(Image: ITV)Emmerdale’s Aaron Dingle could be leaving the Dales for good. The Dales regular, played by Danny Miller, returned to the soap in 2023 after two years away from the village. However, it seems he could be bidding it farewell once again as Aaron has teased plans to leave the village and start a new life with his (killer) husband John Sugden. The idea came after Aaron cheated on John with his ex Robert, who also happens to be the villain’s brother. John seemed keen on rekindling their relationship but Aaron later regretted the decision and felt terrible for betraying John.It even led Aaron to think about packing up his old life and getting away from Robert and his troubles. He told John they should move away from the Dales and get a “fresh start”.Aaron confronts John in upcoming scenes, suggesting he’s unearthed secrets about the killerAaron suggested they should stay somewhere for a couple of weeks and, if they like it, stay there for good. It could be the perfect way for John to evade the police as he heard the case into Nate Robinson’s death was close to being re-opened.Article continues belowJohn, fearing cops might discover it was him behind Nate’s death, accepted Aaron’s offer and they headed to the pub to tell everyone. Aaron told his mum: “If we like the area [we are going], we are gonna stay on.”Aaron wants a “fresh start” with John, away from the Dales and all of its problemsChas Dingle assumed they were just going for a few weeks, but John confirmed: “Actually, we were thinking of something more long-term.” Aaron said: “We need a fresh start so, we are moving away!”Spoiler pictures teased the pair weren’t just staying in any old rental home. Aaron was seen holding a photograph by a desk which had trophies on it – and fans believe these trophies belong to John and thus that they’re staying in a home connected to the killer.Aaron recently slept with ex Robert – but later regretted it(Image: ITV)One fan wrote on X: “Are we sure this is a holiday cottage because why are John’s trophies there is he that self obsessed he has to take them with him.” Another said: “You feel where ever they are, John has chosen the place as he’s familiar with it. Its not going to be some random place i doubt.”A scene from the spoiler pics suggest Aaron is confronting John about something, which could mean he’s unearthed one of John’s dark secrets. If so, this could put him in grave danger. It comes as Aaron’s mate Mackenzie discovered that John had paid a man to lie to the police about Nate. Fans know that John accidentally killed Nate by drugging him as part of his twisted hero complex. And it’s said John star Oliver Farnworth is set to leave the soap after a year. It’s claimed that (spoiler incoming) John will brutally kill Mackenzie and that Mack’s actor Robb has already filmed his “harrowing” death scenes.Article continues belowHave you joined Threads? Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney launched a bathwater soap called Bathwater Bliss and she has claimed that other women were the main critics of the viral productAndy Gilpin Deputy Editor in Chief and Bang Showbiz11:37, 21 Aug 2025Updated 11:40, 21 Aug 2025Sydney Sweeney looks at what people are saying about her(Image: BANG Showbiz)Sydney Sweeney has hit back at the women who criticised her bathwater soap. The 27-year-old actress collaborated with men’s personal hygiene brand Dr. Squatch in May to launch a soap named Bathwater Bliss – which she alleges contained her own bathwater. And she’s sure that it was primarily women who took issue with the gimmick.Speaking to the Wall Street Journal she said: “It was mainly the girls making comments about it, which I thought was really interesting.”Referring to the viral risqué scene in Jacob Elordi’s 2023 film Saltburn, she added: “They all loved the idea of Jacob Elordi’s bathwater.”The “medium grit” soap bar included olive, sustainable palm and coconut oils, shea butter, natural fragrance, Sydney’s bath water, sand, mica, kaolin clay and sea salt.Sydney Sweeney strips nude in bubble bath and quips ‘dirty little boys'(Image: Dr Squatch/YouTube)Bathwater Bliss was launched on June 6, and sold out within seconds. The Euphoria star insisted she isn’t bothered by any backlash as she likes to keep an eye on what her audience is saying.Article continues belowShe added: “I think it’s important to have a finger on the pulse of what people are saying, because everything is a conversation with the audience.”Meanwhile, Sydney recently faced criticism for an American Eagle denim campaign. The retailer unveiled a series of adverts featuring the star, with the slogan: “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,” However, this play on words sparked a storm on social media due to the phrase “great genes” being historically linked to eugenicists – those who advocate for improving the human species through selective breeding. While Sydney has yet to comment on the American Eagle jeans advert, the brand stood up for the actress amidst the online backlash. In an Instagram post dated August 1, the fashion label clarified: “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story.Sydney Sweeney in her jeans last year”We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”American Eagle’s chief marketing officer Craig Brommers expressed that bringing Sydney on board was a significant move for the company, dubbing her the “It girl of the moment”.Speaking to WWD, he said: “I think this is potentially one of the biggest gets in American Eagle history.Article continues below”Sydney Sweeney is the It girl of the moment, and she is helping us create the It jeans campaign of the season. Sydney really encapsulates American Eagle.”She is the girl who can play the red carpet, but she’s also the girl next door, and that duality really defines Gen Z and Millennials.” More
